Live blog of Dolphins vs. Texans here

HOUSTON -- The Dolphins have never beaten the Texans, but I don't care about that tonight.

You know what I care about most?

Lamar Miller.

I want him to win the starting running back job. No, that doesn't mean I am rooting for him over other players at running back. I mean I want him to perform at such a level as to leave no question about which player should be the Dolphins starting running back by the time the night is through.

That hasn't happened yet because, well, I don't think Miller's been given much of a chance. He's only gotten four carries in the preseason.

How is anyone supposed to win a job with four scant opportunities in two games?

As the starters are expected to go at least one quarter, maybe more, perhaps Miller can get 10 carries this game so he can get a feel for the competition and get a good chance to show his stuff. Let's hope.

Rishard Matthews, Lance Louis and Jamar Taylor -- none of whom have played this preseason -- are dressed and expected to play tonight.

And, of course, there is a live blog for your participation on tap:

The only qb better than Moore is J.Manziel.

Nah, Moore is still better.

Your not going to pay a guy on IR on a 1 yr deal...sad business but its a hard cold reality!!!

Depth at secondary experience is what I meant. If Ross keeps JI another year than Ross doesn't really care about wining. Why move up the draft pick a player that is hurt and damage goods instead of picking a OL help or even a TE. That's what makes JI a idiot for a GM. This team has enough DE pass rushers just doesn't make sense. But that's water under the bridge, hey maybe dion Jordan can play on the OL... Hahahahaha

Unbelieveable...only in preseason. Corp had no chance to make the team and wanted to show us all why.

We have the worst Coaches ever. Some of the posters here should coach. They are so knowledgeable.

7-9

Philbin is not a winner.

He should be an assistant. Not a leader.

We still look mediocre at best. That equals no playoffs again.

1-15, unless Moore starts and saves the Season.

Numbers are truth.

Good night.

Philbin should be fired right now. Make Matt Moore the Coach. I have never seen a smarter QB.

Dolphin RAY,

Several great OL went before the top 11. We moved up to draft an injured player that may not play this year with that bum shoulder. Fischer, Joeckel, Johnson, Warmack, Cooper, Warmack, and Fluker all went in the top 11 and could have helped the weakest area of the team.

Guy's Just wondering when was the last time Keller played a entire season????
Gotta wonder why Ireland continues to pick the injured, Lets look at his record, There's Odrick(Chronic knee injury's, Has to sit out his rookie year)There's Jordon(Chronic Shoulder injury's) Will more then likely have to sit out this year.
Then there's Keller, A player who sat out most of the last two years with a assortment of injury's..
Just gotta wonder, If your looking for a refund on season tickets call the law office's of

Thomas, Samuda, Louis, Yeatman, and Martin.

Well if the Texans let go of either Yates or Keenon...I would easily swap one of them for moore and save even more $$$ in the long run...just sayin!!!!

Bless me father, for I have sinned. I just watched some of the worst football in my long life. He can't play quarterback, who, none of them. These guys better start prying because practice has not been getting the job done with this coach.

Tedd Ginn played great the other night. Square routes and all.

Our back up players that aren't going to make the team are playing awful. So I would like to project the win loss record of the started based on that. And also say the team will not be in the playoffs based off of the play of players not making the team or play most of the year. LOL

Cuban,

Because in the eyes of Jeff Ireland and company..their Gems in the making and who can pass up better Acorns...er... gems than good old Jeffy!!!

Keller missed 8 games last year. Before that he played all 16 games for 4 years in a row. 0 games missed.

Ross. Ireland. nough said. Hoping for the best. Next time.

We should trade Matt Moore for Multiple First round picks. Even though that would mean I would stop being a Dolphin Fan.

Matt Moore is the best Qb the Fins have had in over 30 years.

Matt Moore wouldn't have let Keller get hurt.

For those that blame Jeff Ireland for the offensive line, nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is that Jeff Ireland had other things on his mind this year, particularly the receiving corps. If you recall, Jeff Ireland took a lot of criticism last year just because he overlooked the position a little. Jeff Ireland remembered the position this year, and made some impressive free agent signings. Now, as busy as he is with great responsibilities as General Manager of the team, it is totally understandable that the offensive line sort of slipped his mind. You can rest assured that he won't make the same mistake twice. Next season, watch out for huge improvement on the offensive line, thanks to the personnel acumen of Jeff Ireland.

He still was coming off a nasty knee injury, and it does seem that we would rather chance on somebody coming back from injury than not....Best pray that grimes doesn't go down this season...just sayin!!!

Seattle 24

Denver 7

The post game show here is showing the highlights, making it look like we dominated.

What bs.

Matt Moore loves him some Matt Moore

Matt Moore should be the GM.

Greg, the first team played well....from both points of view,1ST stringers broke even on tonights performance....depth was definitely dominated by Texans tonight...that is the truth

By the way,

Against the Jets, Chad Henne goes 4-10, 30 yds, 0 TD's, 1 INT.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

By the way,

Against the Jets, Chad Henne goes 4-10, 30 yds, 0 TD's, 1 INT.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

The real story. The first team defense played as advertised and were very good..not sure why Kelcie McCray who gave up the TD pass from Schaub was in there versus their first team. The first team offense played well and the Wallace caught his first TD from T-hill. And they played well enough to keep the team in the game until the 2nd/3rd teamers came in..except Moore who had a bad game.

Manning 11/16 1 TD......Broncos losing 27-7....

Im sure Bronco fans are panicking all over the place...no, not really!!!

After not missing a game or a practice in his first four years in the NFL, a pulled groin and high ankle sprain hindered Keller's production in the 2012 regular season, limiting him to 28 receptions for 317 yards and two touchdowns in only 8 games

Ohhh, Snap.. I retract my 11:19 post...

Philbin in the post game interview looked shellshocked. He looked white as a ghost.

Folks we''l be talking draft by October.

Orlando, didn't know Warmack was drafted twice. Tell that to the Titans. LOL
On drafting an O-Lineman, Ireland KNEW that if we did, PRACTICALLY the entire fan base would have excoriated him. The fan base demanded Tanny, tolerated Pouncey, Ireland wanted to make waves. This is not to say Jordan won't one day be a disruptive force.
However, you KNOW your squad is not up to par when you lose a formerly great TE, still very good to injury, and now believe the sky is falling.

Folks, this team is 2 years away from very goodness, not yet greatness. Not without a Brady, Luck, Manning, Flaco, Brees, AND a PROVEN, or at least EXPERIENCED NFL head coach.

I like Philbin enough, but for those old enough to remember the Les Steckel debacle with the Vikings. A "no nonsense", former marine whose "my way or the highway" approach set the Vikes back years.
Philbin appears to have some of those genes.
As does Bellicheat. The difference? Bellicheat can coach 'em up, has a plan. We look like there is no game plan, either drafting or on the field.
Sorry for the long post.

Cuban,

You were on me pre game. Thomas clearly outplayed Miller. Man up or you are nothing but a flea.

Tannehill played better against Houston this time around and was solid(except for throw to keller which will be huge loss for this team)

Mike Wallace who everybody and their mother was complaining about last week not being involved caught three passes for 58 and a TD...the red zone scoring is improving compared to last year thus far...and no turnovers on offense, and no batted balls at the line

Gibson had a nice night also...

Grimes Picked off schuab and first team defense did a nice job holding down Texans first team

Cuban, as for injured, you forgot Jamar Taylor and Grimes.
Both, however are doing well, at least Grimes is.
Great point though.
Also, he goes for projects, like Tanny, Egnew, the wideout now with Dallas, sped, no hands. Will Davis another project, based on his frenetic play.
I can't fault him on picking up Keller for a year. His presence was surely setting an example for our other TE's, other than Egnew, of course.
The dropped balls tonight were disappointing.

Cuban,

I Bow to you sir, Gotta say my boy Miller showed a lot of.... NOTHING..
Hope he's saving himself for the Regular season....

Superfan
Thanks for the play by play that was awesome!

Daniel Thomas certainly had to open eyes tonight...I don't know, miller better not count on being named the starter week 1....

GTO, regarding Miller vs Thomas, the opposition can often influence which running style can be effective. The Texans speed on the corners negates much of Miller's advantages. Thomas has the better tools perhaps, against the Texans.
Also, even though a pre-season game, The texans DC is a great one, and may have game planned a bit.

Cuban

Good enough. You manned up. You are a man of character. Not like that other evasive Yellow Fellow. The competition is not over, that was my only point.

We stayed relatively healthy last year. This year the injury bug is biting us. Binns and Kellar out for the year. Jerry, Starks, and Jordan hurt. Jordan will probably be out for the year too or will be bothered by that shoulder all year as it is the same shoulder that he had surgery on that is bothering him. Starks has not been on the field for a while. I wonder even when Starks and Jerry come back how out of shape they will be. You are talking about big men that have not been able to run. They are basically eating burgers, and fries without being able to burn it off running.

Just some observations is all Ray....:)

Great work by starting Defense, gave up -0- points and had one Int. Ryan Tannehill good night against #1's, 1 YD pass another drive with great runs and ZERO penalty help on either drive.

Next idiot I hear talking about Matt Moore should be the starting QB in Miami I'm calling the NSA to bug they're phone.....

Next Idiot I hear saying T-Hill will not have any chemistry with Wallace I'm buying a rainbow warrior T-shirt and a 10 inch dildo....

All all all good work.... I really like what I saw from (aside from starters) JJ Shelby, AJ Francis, Tristan Okpalaugo... all three of those players I see making 53.

Sucks losing Keller, but it's hard to whine about what you never really had. Time for a few other TE's to get more reps.

T-Hill, Wallace, Wake, Francis, Gibson, Odrick, Thomas and Miller all had very positive nights, Miller lost a buch of stats to stupid penalties.

The kick interference penalty was total Bullshiznit.

First team Defense is the TRUTH!!!

DieHardFan you're an imbecile. Defining a coach/Gm's tenure is defined by many things. I realize that you're a simpleton so you have to reduce things to black and white terms in order to attempt to understand them, but your follow up to my comment only continues to show your ignorance. Jimmy Johnson built a defense that produced seven winning seasons in a row. Did that hurt the Dolphins winning percentage ? He also brought the team players such as Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Brock Marion, among others. Research huh ? Why don't you try logic before you attempt to make a point. You're an imbecile.

I'll butt out of this, but just wanted to say Miller is by far the more explosive back, and we MUST present other teams with some sort of threat, other than Wallace.
I can see them crowding the box, and Miller blowing by the LB's and corners.
Not so much Thomas.
IMO, What happens in a game like tonight's should be meaningful mainly to who stays or goes, and maybe who is the 2nd team QB, etc.

Out on a limb here, but I'll wager there IS no competition at RB. It's coach-speak.

Breeze, The starting Defense is good, The starting offense is so-so, Injuries are the key, Stay healthy 9 and 7, Injury bug hits 45 and 11...
Just saying..I might be wrong, Hick I've been wrong 5 times on this blog alone, Not to mention being wrong on not noticing my Wife getting a hair cut(She did)...
But that's for a different blog...
I'am out, GO PHINS.............

Keep in mind Thomas statistically blew away Miller tonight. No comparison. Most of you don't realize Thomas has excellent soft, hands. No way he drops that easy pass Miller dropped.

I say the competition is not over. You can't say a guy who averaged 2.0 yards a carry beat the guy who averaged 6.3 yards a carry.

I want the best guy to win. Miller has not convinced the coaching staff he is the best guy.

DiehardFan,
Just did my "research" retard...and as I believed, the Dolphins lost their title as the "winningist" franchise in the NFL during the Cameron and Sparano eras. Having been passed by the Steelers and the Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson this Jimmy Johnson that...he refused to let Danny Boy throw his hissy fits. Get off it...Jimmy Johnson did great things here. Any fan who thinks otherwise is a moron.

The fins may pick up former player Randy McMichael. We are very thin at TE. No way we can go into the season with Dion Simms, Egnew, or Clay as the starting TE. Todd Heap is also available. Perhaps we can trade Starks for a good TE as our DL is pretty deep. Keller is one player we could not afford to lose.

Mandos- call all the names you want. History shows I'm correct. You can blow JJ all you want- he ruined the Miami offense and we have yet to recover. JJ was a terrible coach, though he was a decent judge of defensive talent. Couldn't find a RB to save his life though.

By the way you are too stupid to realize you made my point. You named off all Defensive players and referenced the success the D had.

Keep a look out for my next post- I may need you to verify that one also

Gillislee has not shown much at all. Miller and Thomas are a hands down lock for 1 and 2.

Thomas is ready to be the starting RB. He is a good receiver out of the backfield, good blocker, and ran the ball well tonight (over 6 yards a carry). Miller should be his backup.

The preseason is an evaluation process--I think we have much to evaluate thus far.

Don't get how can a GM of a pro NFL franchise forget or slip of the mind about losing a all pro LT no RT no RG? But goes ahead drafts a DE/LB hurt damage goods and not draft Jake Long replacement? That's the reason 80% of PHINS FAN want him fire dumb as moves like that, Egnew bust Miller not ready for the big stage, should of kept Bush and no veteran backup TE.. Basically JI drafts projects no impact players. Maybe a couple of them but majority projects. It's time for a change FIRELAND is back up fellas!

MandoSB...quoting stats from an exhibition game? For shame. LOL
Barry Sanders would have negative yardage after his first 5 carries, due to that horrid Lion O-Line. Then...BOOM...85 yard TD.
Not saying Miller is anything close to Sanders, but Thomas isn't. He's a poor man's Ronnie brown, only not nearly as good. And Ronnie had no more 40+ yard runs than the fingers on my hands in his Dolphin years.
Thomas is deserving of being #2, for now. A rookie must CLEARLY beat out a vet, and neither gray nor Gilleslee has done so.

Diehard,

For every step forward JJ took the defense, he took the offense two steps backwards. He instantly destroyed the most exciting offense in football and we have yet to recover.

He thought he could win with Damon Huard. Gimme a break.
