The status of four injured starters

CLEVELAND -- Although Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said quarterback Ryan Tannehill will play with the starting unit in Sunday evening's Hall of Fame game, the status of at least four starters is highly questionable to the point you shouldn't expect to see them.

Defensive tackle Jared Odrick (groin), defensive tackle Randy Starks (knee), receiver Mike Wallace (groin) and receiver Brian Hartline (calf) are not likely to play.

None are expected to miss significant time going forward, but because all missed practice the past few days and are still trying to reach 100 percent health, it seems to make little sense to play any of them.

Hartline, who is the closest to health in the group, wants to play because the game is in his native Ohio. But a source close to Hartline said it nonetheless makes little sense to risk an aggravation of the calf muscle in exchange for a couple of series of action in an otherwise meaningless preseason game.

Of the four, it is certain neither Odrick nor Starks will play. Although they are in the midst of a competition for a starting defensive end job and both have much to prove this season -- Starks because he'll be unsigned for 2014 and Odrick because he's being moved from DE to DT -- the competition was derailed temporarily this week when Starks first and then Odrick got hurt.

Odrick is day to day with the groin. Starks may be out a bit longer but a club source confirmed his injury is not considered worrisome.

Not much action there today so early, Fraud, but it does get hotter. Yes.

YES, OSCAR! I SAW YOU AS YOU WALKETH THROUGH PUBLIX AND SPOKETH OF YOU AT THE DELI COUNTER AFTER YOUR PURCHASE.

I WAS FILLED WITH GRET BURSTS OF JOY YOU WERE ABLE TO USETH THE EXPRESSETH LANE!

I'm going to load up at the KFC Buffet before the game and then eat a half gallon of ice cream while I blog with my best best friends during the game.

Don't pay any attention to this fukkk. He'll probably be glued in front of the TV just as most of us will be.

oscar,
Which fukkk are you referring to?

Well, I guess the only one here. The young'un.

I hate having to scroll through pages and pages of Troll drivel just to read an actual Miami Dolphins post...
I'll be glad once the games begin and there's actually something worthwhile to read on this blog.

I'm interested to see how much playing time Grimes gets tonight. Miami stole him from Atlanta and I expect Ireland will be drafting up a long-term contract for him shortly.
(By the way, Dallas, don't throw to his side of the field!)

Also, I'm expecting at least three takeaways tonight. The coaches have emphasized it all training camp and the players are buying into it.

Miami wins, 27-10.

Never forget to use pearl rice in this dish, as in Paella(you know). Otherwise, you'll never get the right consistency.

Steady at -3 for us in LV.

Actually, I was in lane 6.

Tracy,
I agree about Grimes.
He will completely shutdown Dez tonight.

Not quite sure what these girls see in an old fukkk like me. They smile all over the place and melt down whenever I pay in their lane.

Maybe they grew up without a father and so they don't know how to act around an older man so they act all sltty like they moms.

I SEE OSCAR IS HERE AFTER GOING TO STORE TO BUY HIS BEER AND PORK RINES///

TO BE
OR
NOT TO BE.

That's a very in incisive comment, Fraud. But it could also be that I hate credit cards and always pay in crisp $100 bills.

OSCAR,TELL US ABOUT THE TIME WEN THERE WERE NO STORES AND YOU HAD TO HUNT EVRYTIG WITH SPEARS......

(BUFFET OF SCRIMAGES)

Well, my scope will be on Mr. Jonathan Martin tonight. You can take it to the Bank.

YES LANE SIX! YOU BRIEFLY CONSIDERED PURCHASING THE ORBIT WINTERGREEN GUM THAT CAUGHT YOUR EYE AND ALSO OBSERVED THE SMALL EYEGLASS REPAIR KIT FOR SALE.

BUT YO DID NOT IMPULSE BUY!!! I AM PROUD OF YOU!!!

I-was-impulsive

DC.

Why do you have to be such an ignorant, unobservant fool like your other few buddies here that constantly feed ETF and his other few names? He has admitted to his other names and load swalling antics many many times, and you FOOOOOOLS still take his posts seriously.

Wake up idiot! He just wants to get a rise out of you, like he has done time and again. And one day he will be cumming in your mouth!

Too bad Romo isn't playing tonight! I'd love to see Wake & Jordan make a sandwich out of him....

It's a pre-season game, so I don't expect to learn too much. But, it is on national television and this may be some of these players only shot at national exposure. There WILL be a couple of nasty hits I'm sure. If you're a 3rd or 4th string player who will probably NOT make the team, what have you got to lose by bringing the wood?

I just hope our team comes out of the pre-season healthy! Five games that mean absolutely nothing can take its toll on bodies no matter how young they are. And, the first 5 games of the regular season are no cake walk! We don't need to go into Week 1 all banged up. Philbin's decision to play the HOF game may come back to haunt him I'm afraid. Yes, they need the work, but it's a big risk he's taking....

Individual match ups. That is what preseason is all about. We won't see any intricate play calls or exotic defenses. It's going to be a chance to see how Dion Jordan and Vernon matchup against the Cowboys starting LT. Likewise, we will see a true test for Martin against Ware. I think our depth on defense will be too much for the Cowboys and their 2nd and 3rd string guys will struggle to move the football.

One large saggy boob of a fat black mamma has more brains than DC, KRIS, DASHE, CRAIG and PHIN78 combined!

God are those fools freakin dumb.

Politicians LOVE people like them!

All that matters tonight is avoiding injuries and giving younger, untested guys some action and seeing how they respond.

Those of you who attach any significance beyond that to a meaningless exhibition game seriously need your heads examined.

And please don't forget that the vast majority of players dressed up as 'Dolphins' and 'Cowboys' in tonight's pretend game will NEVER play a single down of NFL football in a game that actually counts.

How can we possibly forget this when there is an idiot stating this obvious detail every hour here?

With Romo out and them being one dimensional on offense last year, they will look to establish the run early. They may have some success there with Odrick and Starks out. The Dolphins will likely do the same if both Hartline and Wallace are no go's. I would like to see Tannehill get some passes to Gibson and Keller to keep them from pressing the line.

Hey Woodshit,

Would you like to see Tannehill throw some touchdowns and the defense get some turnovers?

I expect that each team's starting unit will play 3 series.
Orton will QB the 1st & 2nd team for 'boys so Grimes will be tested.

Perspective, you are 100% on the mark. Fans are eager for action but too many of them always seem to treat these stupid preseason games as if they are really important when they aren't at all.

The worst is that NFL teams actually have the unmitigated gall to charge fans FULL PRICE for these dumb practice games. Seriously, the tickets to this nonsense should be distributed free to anyone who wants them, especially to charitable causes like underprivileged kids who might get a thrill from the chance to go and wouldn't know the difference from a real game.

It's not like the NFL is exactly struggling financially, you know? Charging fans to spend so much on games that mean absolutely nothing is criminal.

I SEE THERES NEW MEMBERSHIP IN "GANG OF DEFEAT"

WHO WILL BE NEWE MEMBERS??????

It's a calculated risk Philbin is taking, Tracy. We have a lot of new guys starting at their position specially on O. Martin, Keller, Gibson, Egnew, even Dion Sims. That takes time to gel also in a zone blocking scheme besides wanting to try out all these seemingly very talented rookies. At the same time, any one of them can go down for the rest of the Season. But that's what this Game is all about.

..I'll record the game and watch it later tonight..Hmmn float the Madison, or watch the HOF game???? easy choice. I'm sure whatever happens. There will tremendous over-reaction from the blog. If a player does something positive...He will definiltey no doubt be a BEAST this year.. If a player makes a mistake-plays poorly. He is no doubt a worthless bum, a bust, whatever.

The only variables that may come out of tonights game.. An injury to a key player(I hope we avoid the bug) or a player who is buried on the depth chart gets a chance to move up on said depth chart.

Enjoy the game..Go easy tonight. It is just a preseason game.

I believe DeMarcus Ware is not playing in this Game.

pompano,
All American style football exists for benefit of 32 men.

The cogs of a stadium hot dog is $.10.
An official NFL jersey leaves the sweatshop in Cambodia for a cost of $2.

American style football does not exist for the benefit of eeveryone, it exists for the benefit of 32 men.

Pompano

Gall no. They are businessmen first. It is not their fault fans are so dumb as to pay full price for meaningless games. They would charge double if the idiot fans would pay.

Money is the bottom line, top line and middle line.

Maybe not in this Game, but you cannot overestimate the hitting of fringe Players trying to make an impression.

EtF ARE YOUA MEMBER OF GANG OF DEFEAT???

Aloco,
I am not a member of any gang.
There is some irony to this game because Orton has to get the 1st & 2nd team snaps.

I also like to keep the discussion poinant so while the majority of idiots are taken in by illusion I dedicate my life to

You need protection, Son? Then go somewhere else. You are on your own and forever will be so.

ALoco, are you a member of the gang of dumbassses?

(((((BUFFET OF ALOCO THE DUMBASSS))))

Guys, please don't ruin things for me by telling me tonight's game is meaningless!

I already have my "keys to the game" all lined up and am eager to comically overanalyze every down and player so that I can offer my "expert analysis" tomorrow.

I will also be completely overreacting (both positive and negative) to each play and calling various players---many of whom will be completely forgotten in a month---either 'busts' or 'hidden gems.'

So enough of this blasphemous talk about preseason games being stupid and pointless. Tonight is a CRUCIAL matchup of Gladiators of MONUMENTAL importance.

I will be here all day tomorrow to grace everyone with my incredible insights.

Thank You.

When demand is high, prices go up. When demand is low, prices go down.

Basic economics.

Don't let the 'made for camera' NFL gestures towards charity fool you into thinking the NFL is run by Mother Teresa. Like all successful businesses, they are shrewd, cold, and greedy.

...@ 12:23..If you have a fringe player you are rooting for. It sure does make the preseason games more watchable. These games are brutal.. I understand why the league plays them(outside of the revenue that is generated) Until the first units get more then a series of downs...I would rather do something meaningful over trying to break down a game so far from what the finished product will be.

By all means. If this floats your boat. If you live an d die football. Get the beer cold, fire up the Q. Enjoy the game.

Typical,
Thank you for making my life worth living.

Oh, I'm under no illusions about how the NFL operates or the profit-driven bottom line.

I'm simply suggesting (admittedly idealistically) that it would be nice if NFL teams simply distributed free or drastically reduced tickets to these utterly meaningless practice games to charitable groups or others who may not ever be able to attend the real thing.

Might not be a bad investment in creating future fans and engendering goodwill, either. The NFL is concerned that kids today have little interest in their sport and would much rather spend time playing video games, not to mention the public embarrassment of players like Hernandez soiling the league's image.

I know it won't happen. Just saying it would be nice to see.

Starks and Odrick shouldn't make much difference. I wouldn't have played them much if any anyways.

It will give us a chance to see a lot of Vaughn Martin, Kheeston Randall and Derrick Shelby.

I wouldn't play Wake at all. He's too Great and getting up there in years. We have to think in terms of extending his career. That of course means a LOT of Vernon and Jordan!

I'm really starting to Love what Philbin has orchestrated here.

Key players to watch for me:

Jonathon Martin.

Jonathon Martin.

Jonathon Martin.

Oh yeah, and Jonathon Martin!

You are most welcome.

Pompano

Until the NFL has a problem with attracting fans, they will see no need for the investment.

It would be nice if high end escorts reduced their price for guys who can't afford $5000 a night, you know like a Tuesday night special for 50 bucks, but until their clientele dwindles, it won't happen either.

Odin

Will you be watching the game with dashi? He really admires you. You have become his role model here. He is even starting to talk like you.

I'm sure he would do 'anything' for you.

Typical,

Is this your way of saying you don't follow the Dolkphins all that closely, but you hangout on the Blog anyways...........?

Please don't get all bent and blow up the next three pages.

I was just asking..........

Go Phins!!!!

Odin

Remember dashi is latino. That means certain things are not considered 'hommmosexxxual' in their book. So you can receive the deed with no worries of being labeled a kweer.

Miso,

Weren't you just here under another name crying about all the blog pollution?

I didn't see anything in your post even slightly related to Football.

C'Mon Man, it's Game Day!

PS: I hope I don't throw any tables through any windows when Will Davis gets his First or Second Int!

I also hope to see Gray run the ball. I think the kid could give Thomas some competition for the short-yardage back. But, so far, he's had an up-and-down Training Camp. Thomas needs to stay healthy and perform better than he did last year. Gillislee has potential, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Dolphins put either him or Gray on the practice squad. (I think they can still put Gray there, but I'm not sure). We don't have a proven veteran in the backfield, but lots of potential. Lane will probably be cut soon, in my opinion. Our TE's (Sims or Clay come to mind) can handle that duty just fine. Haven't heard much about that Edwards guy they brought in. But, he may be struggling with the playbook. We need a thousand-yard rusher this year, so Miller better step up to the plate. I'm hopeful he will.

We get it, Joe. You pee your pants. Awesome.

======================================================

ROTFLMAO! No Shyt!

Enough Already!

It feels like Christmas Morning! I can't wait to see Jordan and Vernon playing together!

I manage 35 employees at a family-owned business so I hardly need a primer on 'Capitalism 101,' guys.

It was simply an observation on the pointless nature of preseason games and the wish that the NFL viewed them as an opportunity to allow underprivileged folks or other worthwhile charitable groups the opportunity to see a game (albeit a fake game) that they could otherwise never afford to attend.

As I already stated, it is not something I anticipate happening at all. Merely suggesting it would be nice to see.

Odin,
I agree! We'll find out in pre-season if Martin is struggling because he can't handle LT or if he's struggling because Miami's pass rush is so good that no one can handle it!

I'm hopeful for the latter...

Football starts Today!!

I've been watching them CFL games but it is just not the same. I will take a preseason NFL game over that any day. Not insulting our Canadian Bloggers just their football.

Now I know how Europeans feel watching American Soccer.

Devlin Vs Moore.

J.Martin Vs Another Team DE.

Our Secondary. Who remembers last preseason? They were still learning the defense. And Coyle playing Cover 2 with the Safeties. We have better players back there this year. The Safeties already know their Job.

Heck, I even want to see our 4,5,6 WRs run around today.

Pompano

That's cool. Listen, dashi here needs a real job. Have you got anything for an uneducated island boy that thinks he knows more than everyone else? I know it doesn't sound promising, but maybe he is trainable?

IT IS NOT GAMEDAY. GAMEDAY COMES IN SEPTEMBER WHEN IT ACTUALLY COUNTS!! THIS IS AVOID INJURY DAY!!!

Ask Jake Long, Reggie Bush, Matt Flynn, Vonta Leach, or the Dade County taxpayers how cheap Ross is.
