Wallace deals with groin while Dolphins get work

Mike Wallace confirmed today he is battling a groin injury and that's the reason he led a handful of players being held out of practice today. Wallace also said he would like to play in Sunday's Hall of Fame game but obviously that's a decision for the coaching staff.

"It feels pretty good," Wallace said. "I feel like it's getting there."

Brian Hartline also sat out most of the drills with a calf strain. I'm certain if there had been a game today or a regular season game this weekend, both Hartline and Wallace would be playing. So there's that.Hartlineleg

Randy Starks sat out practice and had a compression sleeve on his right leg. That gave Jared Odrick, who is competing with Starks for a starting DT job, all of the first-team work at the position until he simply stopped working midway through practice. It seems Odrick had some sort of minor health issue although it's not clear what.

On the bright side of the injury department, today was the first day rookie cornerbackJamar Taylor got in both individual and team drills after missing practically two weeks with issues related to his offseason hernia surgery.

"I'm definitely happy to be back on the field," Taylor said. "Being hurt shows your character and the person you are so when you come out here you have to let everything go and play. I'm definitely not full strength, but we got great trainers that are going to keep working on me so I'm going to get there."

Coach Joe Philbin said he'll finalize play-time for Sunday's game on Saturday but it's obvious he already knows how he's going to proceed. Philbin announced that the installation phase of training camp is now over with the end of today's practice. He estimated that 95 percent of the playbook is in for the offense, defense and special teams.

The focus today was two-minute situations, two-point plays, fourth-down plays, last plays of the half, and last plays of the game when there's only five seconds left on the clock.

"We've covered every situation that we possibly can so our guys should be ready to play a good football game Sunday night in Canton," Philbin said.

Today's action was actually fun to watch. There were plays being made on both sides of the ball, which is much more interesting than when one unit dominates.

On defense, it was an impressive day for rookie Will Davis, DE Olivier Vernon (again), and CB Richard Marshall. On offense, Matt Moore seemed to have a good day as did TE Kyle Miller.

After practice Philbin told the team "some guys had exceptional practices, some guys didn't.  Davis, Philbin noted, got his hand on six to eight passes for passes defensed so "I thought he had a good practice. I'm sure there are technique things he has to work on, but I was pleased with him today."

That's great news for Davis who started quite slowly but had an interception in the end zone during the scrimmage Monday and believes there's a reason he's starting to shine.

"When the game slows down for you, you are able to make more plays," he said. "That's happening for me now."

The game has seemingly slowed down for Olivier Vernon in his second season -- at least when he is matched opposite left tackle Jonathan Martin. Vernon has owned Martin since the opening of camp and today was no different.

Vernon had three sacks against Martin during team periods. It's great news for the defensive end. For the Dolphins starting left tackle, it is looking problematic at this point.

"I think it's been going pretty well," Martin said. "You have some good days and some bad days out there. My goal is to try to be consistent against a talented D-line ... It's been challenging but I like it. I like going against the best."

Martin said his biggest focus is improving his hand placement and balance. On the bright side for Martin, a day after rookie Dion Jordan beat him twice for sacks, Martin got the better of the rookie Thursday. Jordan did not collect a sack against Martin.

One thing of note about Jordan. I saw him rush the passer out of a three-point stance, a two-point stance (standing up) and drop into coverage today.

JoshsamudaThe offensive line did not do much mixing and matching today. Martin was at LT, Richie Incognito was at LG, Mike Pouncey was at C, Josh Samuda was at RG and Tyson Clabo was a RT. There also was no moving of Incognito, Pouncey and Samuda around to other positions.

While the LT spot looks like a weak link so far, I'd say the RT spot will be solid based on what we've seen in practice so far.

Understand that Tyson Clabo was let go by the Falcons in the offseason because of cap and other considerations. Understand that he faces Cameron Wake every down. And yet, Clabo has not been beaten nearly as often as Martin. Indeed, he's scored pretty much a stalemate with Wake on most day. And Wake is a premier pass rusher in the NFL the past couple of years.

 Back to practice ...

Miller, one of five tight ends in camp, had a 30 yard touchdown grab off the arm of Pat Devlin for the day's longest scoring play. Miller also had a couple of other catches. Also getting TDs off short throws were Julius Pruitt (who also dropped a pass), Kenny Staford and Chad Bumphis.

Charles Clay, who had a TD in Monday's scrimmage, was almost invisible today except for a dropped pass.

Focker out...

Diet anything is poisen. Your body has no defenses for artifiicial sweeteners. Even though they have less calories, you still gain more weight, because your system doesn't recognize the foreign substance and shifts out of digest mode.

Then again drinking any kind of soda is just plain bad for you. Stick to water, wine, fresh fruit jucies and an occasional drink.

This is a much better report than usual from this writer. It appears to be an objective report from a writer with no hidden agenda.
I wonder if we have ghost writers at work here.

MJ...you do realize that Fisher had a lower win % then Philbin did right???

No you are wrong on that. Do some homework before you spew nonsense lies on here.

Thank you, Kezar, Ill keep it in mind.

The fins in it's current state just may be the worst franchise in all of sports history.

Wow vet...that stat you just put up...afghan vs. WWII...complete bullshyt...I mean...you should be embarrassed for posting that...now I do agree...that Iraq part II was bogus...our government does indeed...do horrible deeds...you do not have to like...or agree...with your government...I don't daily...but you should ALWAYS love your country...

Enough with the Martin talk. As it turns out, Philbin knows more football than anyone here (yes, that includes Armando) and it seems that he's ok with JM at LT.
Silly to see how some fans think they have more insight on players than our coaching staff, armed only with blog information from someone who just likes to create controversy and sees everything from a 'cup half empty' glasses.
Martin is in his second year only with only 5 or 6 starts at LT undr his belt. He will grow and get better, otherwise Philbin or Ireland would not have him here. Even if ihe stinks, can we really do worse than with the 'all-pro' Long? Guy was a no 1 and we still stunk the joint and yes, our QB used to get hit a lot from his blindside...

The fins in it's current state just may be the worst franchise in all of sports history.

Well, this is clearly the worst Dolphin team ever with 4 consecutive losing years. And counting.

Nice Oscar...do you enjoy Whiskey...I am sampling jim Beams recent...Jacobs Ghost...its...okay...

Kezar has a VERY valid point...diet anything...though it doesn't promote weight gain...it inhibits weight loss...and has cancer causing properties...but so does the beef you eat!!! I agree though...stay away from soda anything...get a juicer...it will change your life...and drink your liqour straight...

Geez Oscar just you act like we have Philbins personel cell # or something.

95% of play book installed = good practice

Seriously Seth, Badmiton? Ill pass...

And why do you care if people like football in there SPARE time.

Sometimes you need a break from all the murders on every channel.

A mentirita. Not a bad choice. But you should only use Ice. Taste the drink. Savour el Sabor.

And Dashi can Suck and Swallow with the best of them.

I can thertainly vouch for thith!

I am wrong on that!!! GD tie!!! WhoTF ties??? Well...Philbin still beat Fisher head to head...so...I'm right on that acount...

The Old diet sodas had cancer causing agents. Do you really think Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke want that Lawsuit? That would be bigger than Big Tobacco.

Good luck getting people to understand the effects of the unnatural additives in the food we are being served.
If I remember correctly, the chemical aspartame(Nutrasweet) was originally researched as a rat poison or systemic insecticide.MSG-with its many disguised names, yellow #5 and most all colorings used regularly, sodium benzoate and just about all the lower ingredients on the label of of processed foods are killing our people systemically.

Instead of ice...use chilled rock cubes...ice will water down your sublime drink...

I don't know but it tastes good as hell.

Heck, even Sparano got off to a better start then Philbin.

MSG will make you fat...its what they give lab rats to...fatten them up...
Artifical sweetener will not cause you to get fatter...they cause you to not get slimmer...people that drink diet soda get fatter because they think a diet soda and a 1200 calorie hamburger from McDs is okay...its not okay...

It's good that the Vet went away. I've had and heard enough PTSD to last me a lifetime.

You learn all sort of things in this Blog. Some practical, some esoteric, but you learn.

The FDA does not want us to be healthy...the want us to eat garbage...be sick...then take their meds for the rest of our life...Oscar could invent a cure for cancer...the FDA would buy its right...the shelf it...

and that's a fact...

Whats really bad is this new pretzel bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's. I think its the equivalent of a good tasting poisen.

It's true. People are often threatened by the truth or anything that goes against what the mainstream has taught them.

I invite them to take 10 minutes to do their own research on artificial sweeteners. Everything about them is bad, yet the public bites on the Zero calories. Do you think the big food companies care about your weight more than their profits? Guess again.

Also, all artificial butters, margarine and hydrogenated oils which you will find in numerous products at the supermarket, are extremely harmful. Your system has no defense for them. They literally stick to your arteries and never ever leave, only accumulate until you have a stroke or a heart attack. You should never consume them.

Learn to read the ingredient labels. Learn about what you are consuming before you consume it. Just because it says health food or 'natural', doesn't mean it isn't filled with junk too. For example I picked up a bottle of salad dressing today that said made with Virgin Olive Oil. True...but the majority of oil was harmful canola oil, so it's a scam.

Note that ingredients are listed not alphabetically, but by quantity, so the first ingredient listed is the most prevalent and the last ingredient listed is the least prevalent in any product.

Not if you drink like a Man. The Ice won't melt.

Rock cubes?

You learn something new everyday. Gives a new meaning to on the rocks. Not just Ice cubes.

Now, now, be cool, other me. I'm not against you.

Why do food companies use artificial sweeteners, artificial butters and harmful oils? They are cheaper. It increases their profits at the expense of your well being.

Most big food companies deserve to be boycotted until they go under.

Diet this and Lite that were truly Brilliant marketing schemes. Highly successful. Convince the consumer something more profitable for them to sell is actually healthier.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I don't chill any of my liqour Juan...just a thought...for those that may use ice...
Kezar is on the money...
Anything that says "natural flavors" on it could literally be...anything...
McDs puts animal oil fat in their milkshakes...
Taco Bell uses an antifreeze substance to keep their lettuce...fresh and crispy...there is a reason there is a cancer pandemic folks...and we are eating it...

Dick Cheney is a Great American. The Bushes might be infidels, but Cheney is a Good Man.

I bet whatever anyone wants that if Romney had Dick as VP he would've Won the Election. By a Landslide.

Many of you are avid sports fans. Well, many of these athletes that are in impeccable condition have impeccable diets to go along with their training.

On a football note. I think too many have written Jake Long off too soon. I believe he'll have a better season than whoever plays LT for us. I think he was worth the few extra bucks he was seeking.

It is unfortunate losing our #1 overall pick will haunt us for some time.

The beef your eating??? Gets feed corn...not its natural diet...but cheap...this makes the live stock sick...so they pump them with antibiotics...cows dont grow and mature well under these conditions...so they pump them with steroids...to make them grow...then they slaughter them...handle them poorly...then you eat it...

You are correct sir Chilling alcohol just ain't right. Especially if you have enough to fill a cabinet or a bar.

That is as bad as people who don't drink out of Drinking Glasses. You know the ones that use their red solo cup.

95% of what you eat...is not food!!! Its a food like substance...these are your Jack! lessons for the night...study them well...

That is a good point Jack, but it goes much further than that. Msg and artificial sweeteners are excitotoxins--They cause the receptors in your brain to "short out". Alzheimr's and other forms of dementia are related to this type of chemical( there are many added to our food ).
Nutrasweet can not be digested directly. It is processed through a natural system in the human body cally methylation. This allows the chemical to be converted to a recognizable entity. This process either converts it to formaldahyde or formic acid. Formic acid is the chemical fire ants use as a weapon and is injected into its victim upon a bite.
This is just the tip of the iceberg on the way we are being poisoned with our food.

Bill Clinton went to Canada, my Doctor Father got one of my EKG strips documenting my congenital arrhythmia, others. You got help from nobody. You were(are?) cannon fodder. We know. Don't fukkk around with Us.

And corn in any form is full of Roundup the weedkiller Monsanto promotes.

Jack is correct about beef. Cows were not meant to eat corn. When they do, they get diseases. What they pump them with then is antibiotics to prevent the illnesses. However...

The trick is to avoid corn fed beef, which is 99% of the US beef. At some upscale markets like Whole Foods you can buy New Zealand beef which is grass fed. Not only is it leaner and more flavorful, but it is much easier to digest, and with no antibiotics.

I spent some time in Argentina where their beef is mostly grass fed too. It is fantastic, and healthy to eat as often as you want.

Watch the documentary Food Matters. It shows you everything you said Jack.

I do know those Juan...shame...never drink anything out of anything other than a glass...it poions it!!!

Dion Jordan has gained 20 lbs. on Congri y Lechon only.

There is some grass fed beef being raised here. I tried some from California, but it was tough and not flavorful. I don't know why not. If you can find New Zealand beef or Argentine beef, you will love it, but maybe there are some producers here in the states with a quality product.

Even at Publix here in SFL you can find their Green Label meat that is all natural with no hormones or antibiotics, but I don't know if they are grass fed.

Good one Jack, throw in there the fact that the corn grown today is GMO and loaded with roundup.

Keep in mind, 99% of all corn products now are made from GMO corn (Genetically Modified).

Most of your sodas and commercial sports drinks and teas are loaded with corn syrup...more GMO in your system. We have a corn based diet that most don't realize.

Corn chips too, GMO.

Seek the quality stuff and put the murderers out of business.

But I get to get to work and listen to the nimrods have health care debates...health care??? Are ya kidding me!!! SMH.

Beef in general is bad for you. It takes longer to digest than any other meat. And don't buy ground beef. Grind your own meat if you can.

I'm getting hungry. I'm going to prepare some linguini with Alfredo sauce(imported).

Alfredo is nice. If you are short on Parmesan you can scoup some toe jam into the sauce! It tastes like Parmesan! Really!

Corn isn't even a naturally occuring plant...humans invented it!!! And now they tell me I should put it in my car too??? No thanks!!! You can shove that ethenol straight up yer arse!!! It will destroy your fuel system and all of your lawn equiptment...avoid...

Who here believes in anything from the Hernandez letter. Never mind that he writes like a 5 year old. Calligraphy is a lost art. And technology is almost done killing it. Now everyone writes like a Doctor. Chicken scratch.

BRAVO!!! In my opinion, this is one of the best posts you've made on this blog in a long time! Informative, fair, balanced, and without a biased viewpoint. You gave the good news along with the bad news. And, did not interject your personality into it as fact!

Well done, sir!

Right on Juan!!! And you can add different meats to your ground up blend to make a sublime ground...you thought you'd only dream of!!!

And funny how only in a time of need people seek god. Maybe if Hernandez acted more like Jesus and less like Moses or David he wouldn't be in this predicament.

Notice how the regular blog idiots disappear when the topic of conversation turns to something only the more literate and educated people can discuss.

It is refreshing.

Good point Juan, reasearch pink slime if that is not what you were referring to.
Furthermore the soil our crops are being grown on and our meat is being fed from is dead. It is void of minerals and the naturally occurring chemicals that break down the minerals for human and plant absorbtion-- a variety of naturally occurring bacteria and most important humic and fulvic acids.

I'm out...good talks today folks...
And remember...always have your pet spayed or neutered...

The price is wrong beeeeetch!!!
