Wallace deals with groin while Dolphins get work

Mike Wallace confirmed today he is battling a groin injury and that's the reason he led a handful of players being held out of practice today. Wallace also said he would like to play in Sunday's Hall of Fame game but obviously that's a decision for the coaching staff.

"It feels pretty good," Wallace said. "I feel like it's getting there."

Brian Hartline also sat out most of the drills with a calf strain. I'm certain if there had been a game today or a regular season game this weekend, both Hartline and Wallace would be playing. So there's that.Hartlineleg

Randy Starks sat out practice and had a compression sleeve on his right leg. That gave Jared Odrick, who is competing with Starks for a starting DT job, all of the first-team work at the position until he simply stopped working midway through practice. It seems Odrick had some sort of minor health issue although it's not clear what.

On the bright side of the injury department, today was the first day rookie cornerbackJamar Taylor got in both individual and team drills after missing practically two weeks with issues related to his offseason hernia surgery.

"I'm definitely happy to be back on the field," Taylor said. "Being hurt shows your character and the person you are so when you come out here you have to let everything go and play. I'm definitely not full strength, but we got great trainers that are going to keep working on me so I'm going to get there."

Coach Joe Philbin said he'll finalize play-time for Sunday's game on Saturday but it's obvious he already knows how he's going to proceed. Philbin announced that the installation phase of training camp is now over with the end of today's practice. He estimated that 95 percent of the playbook is in for the offense, defense and special teams.

The focus today was two-minute situations, two-point plays, fourth-down plays, last plays of the half, and last plays of the game when there's only five seconds left on the clock.

"We've covered every situation that we possibly can so our guys should be ready to play a good football game Sunday night in Canton," Philbin said.

Today's action was actually fun to watch. There were plays being made on both sides of the ball, which is much more interesting than when one unit dominates.

On defense, it was an impressive day for rookie Will Davis, DE Olivier Vernon (again), and CB Richard Marshall. On offense, Matt Moore seemed to have a good day as did TE Kyle Miller.

After practice Philbin told the team "some guys had exceptional practices, some guys didn't.  Davis, Philbin noted, got his hand on six to eight passes for passes defensed so "I thought he had a good practice. I'm sure there are technique things he has to work on, but I was pleased with him today."

That's great news for Davis who started quite slowly but had an interception in the end zone during the scrimmage Monday and believes there's a reason he's starting to shine.

"When the game slows down for you, you are able to make more plays," he said. "That's happening for me now."

The game has seemingly slowed down for Olivier Vernon in his second season -- at least when he is matched opposite left tackle Jonathan Martin. Vernon has owned Martin since the opening of camp and today was no different.

Vernon had three sacks against Martin during team periods. It's great news for the defensive end. For the Dolphins starting left tackle, it is looking problematic at this point.

"I think it's been going pretty well," Martin said. "You have some good days and some bad days out there. My goal is to try to be consistent against a talented D-line ... It's been challenging but I like it. I like going against the best."

Martin said his biggest focus is improving his hand placement and balance. On the bright side for Martin, a day after rookie Dion Jordan beat him twice for sacks, Martin got the better of the rookie Thursday. Jordan did not collect a sack against Martin.

One thing of note about Jordan. I saw him rush the passer out of a three-point stance, a two-point stance (standing up) and drop into coverage today.

JoshsamudaThe offensive line did not do much mixing and matching today. Martin was at LT, Richie Incognito was at LG, Mike Pouncey was at C, Josh Samuda was at RG and Tyson Clabo was a RT. There also was no moving of Incognito, Pouncey and Samuda around to other positions.

While the LT spot looks like a weak link so far, I'd say the RT spot will be solid based on what we've seen in practice so far.

Understand that Tyson Clabo was let go by the Falcons in the offseason because of cap and other considerations. Understand that he faces Cameron Wake every down. And yet, Clabo has not been beaten nearly as often as Martin. Indeed, he's scored pretty much a stalemate with Wake on most day. And Wake is a premier pass rusher in the NFL the past couple of years.

 Back to practice ...

Miller, one of five tight ends in camp, had a 30 yard touchdown grab off the arm of Pat Devlin for the day's longest scoring play. Miller also had a couple of other catches. Also getting TDs off short throws were Julius Pruitt (who also dropped a pass), Kenny Staford and Chad Bumphis.

Charles Clay, who had a TD in Monday's scrimmage, was almost invisible today except for a dropped pass.

Well, shrimp has to be from here but it doesn't matter.

Exactly Jack!

That is how I make my Meatballs. Grind some beef, some pork, and grind the seasoning with it(Onions, peppers, cilantro, etc). Best tasting meatballs ever. Or you can even make hamburgers. Sometimes I even throw some bacon in there. I know it is bad but I love me some Bacon.

Also, if you have a house, Grow a garden. You will be amazed at the money you save by growing your own tomatoes and peppers. And you know what you put in.

Between my garden and my avocado and mango trees. Food just tastes different than store bought.

BRAVO!! Your post almost sounds like real journalism...

If you watch the Food Matters Documentary. You see them talk about pink slime. And the corn and the cows living condition. It is on Netflix. Really opens your eyes to the truth.

Conversation, It is nice to actually be able to see constructive comments as opposed to the ones I often see here and then just move on or cut off the computer.

I lied...one more...I sport a garden also Juan...totally agree...it tastes different because it is!!! Good mixing it up with you guys!!! Keep 'em educated!!!

My bad my post was to Good Sense. Its getting late.

And numb nuts @11:16. Most regulars are Good Educated People. If you treat everyone with respect you might learn that.

As you know and had a hunch from the beginning, I am the one you love to hate.

The CJ's have now confirmed in First Person, what WE have always known - that every single one of them trolls.

Meat glue is another topic you may be interested in. They use an enzyme and coat meat scraps with it. Then they roll the meat scraps into a plastic tubular form and the enzyme breaks down the fibers and allows them to adhere to each other forming a bogus filet. Yummy hug?
This is sold as a filet. You may have seen some them soln at about half the price of a real filet--beware.

While we still expect Lamar Miller to start and get the bulk of the carries in this offense, don't expect too much from the former fourth-round pick. We have him ranked as the No. 26 running back, which translates to a high-end bench option.......The Sporting News

Starting QB Ryan Tannehill, who had gone five straight days without an interception, had the streak ended during red-zone drills when his throw was tipped by a linebacker and picked off by Richard Marshall. Tannehill completed only 1-of-4 passes during the only 11-on-11 drill.

The way this defense has performed has me really excited.

I'd really like to see Will Davis continue to develop into a starter the way he gets at the football. Can you imagine the turnovers we could create with Davis,Grimes and Jones in the secondary and Jordan,Wake and Vernon getting after the QB?

It is shaping up to be an exciting football season!

Nolan Carroll #2?

He might not even make the roster.

I shouldn't have even answered, but that was just to funny. Nolan Carroll #2.

Posted by: Dashi | August 01, 2013 at 08:28 PM

It's easy to pile on the negatives when a team is rebuilding. Yet he still had to reach and make up lies and/or inaccurate statements to try and make his doom and gloom point. That is funny.......in a pathetic and pitifully sad kind of way.

He claims the new logo is gay......?

Maybe so, but I think that posting under a name containing the words, "Love" and "In Yur Ass" is even **Gay-Yur**.

(I wonder if YG stands for "Yur Gay"........?)

Just saying..............

Having said that, Marshall is holding his own and Patterson is doing even better. Both are in front of Carroll, who BTW, is reportedly having his best off season ever.

Davis is impressing already, just like I thought he would. But that's another post. Topping off the updates on our secondary is the good news that 2nd round pick Jamar Taylor is finally ready too show his stuff.

What makes this especially encouraging is that even though he's late, the early camp and Hall Of Fame Game still has us ahead of the game preparation wise.

But the Troll-Tards want to throw in the towel on the season already-LOL!

This ALMOST deserves a.........

Bhwaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaa!!!!

Oops........I did IT........AGAIN ;p

We lost more soldiers in Afghanistan than in all of WWII. For what?

Posted by: Vet | August 01, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Do you **REALLY** want to know....?

The former Soviet Union destableized the region in their attempted invasion. This opened the door for all kinds of troubles.

Nonetheless and much like the Vietnam War, we had too control the flow of the Heroin and Morphine producing **Poppy Plants**

In addition to the Poppy that produces the opium, Vietnam also produced a gigantic amont of Rubber Trees. Another commodity that the War Machine could not do without. Can you imagine having to pay $500.00 for a set of tires........er.......uh.......that's ANOTHER story.

Anywhoo.......two things and one is just as relevant as the other. 1. The U.S. Govt, actually the CIA could not allow the Communists to profit from the sale of Heroin.

2. The U.S. Govt. and the CIA used the profits from the sale of Herion for all of their own personal needs as well as operations that they were unwilling(or unable)to report to Congress and/or the GAO(General Accounting Office).

The original deal to profit from the sales of Heroin actually pre-dates the CIA. It goes all the way back, **BEFORE** the OSS made deals with Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky in regards to the invasion of Italy during World War II.

Prescott Bush and his mileu were the first to start working with the American Mafia. The Mafia in turn put their "Product" on the streets of the civilized world. The Politics of Heroin, and it's profits financed all kinds of covert operations. These profits were enormous and allowed the CIA to exert it's will on a world wide basis.

The Politics of Heroin played a MAJOR role in and caused wars(many UNDECLARED)in any number of countries around the world. The most notable being Vietnam, Cambodia, Pakistan, Cuba and Afghanistan.

Incredibly, it also played it's role in the Cold Wars and the Deaths, Assassinations and Atempted Assassinations of many Civilians, activists, politicians and world leaders alike.

Of these, John F. Kennedy was probably the most notable. Castro himself was another Target. Right up until he began to "REALIZE" how to "Properly" distribute these profits.

So, why are our Kids dying in Afghanistan.......?

It's the politics of Heroin!

Knee jerk reaction and jumping to conclusions? I'm NOT ready at all to give up on Martin at LT. Not only does have he to play against one of the best players coming out of the draft Jordan...he also plays against 2nd year stud Vernon. These guys are part of one of the best DL's in the NFL. Let's just see how he does against other teams in the preseason. I notice no sense of panic from Philbin, Sherman or T-Hill. I'll take their word for it.

Agree with everyone with a brain. People are blowing the J.Martin situation way out of proportion. The whole O-Line as a whole is better this season. We might even upgrade the RG spot when it is said and done this preseason.

From the looks of it Ireland hit on almost all his picks in this draft.

Using the logic of those talking crap about J. Martin. We can now jump to the conclusion that W. Davis is a HOF player and Tannehill is a bust because he threw an INT yesterday.

3 Days left before the start of football. CAN'T WAIT!!

I predict Phins 27..and the Cowgirls 13. If it's even that close. Preseason wins are about depth and playmakers. The Phins have very good depth in a lot of areas on the team.

Let's be honest, you can spin it how you want, yes we don't need to panic YET. However anyone NOT concerned that our best LT prospect for this year covering our QB's blindside is getting beat often... There needs to be concern and the LT needs to improve drastically if we are going to have a contending season.

So I agree it is to early to give up on the season, like it sounds some have. But it is also just as silly to blow this problem off at this time as a fan. So I can't blame the concerned people for being concerned either.

The Depth is way better this season than last. Last year our 2 best CBs in preseason Vontae and S.Smith with little depth behind them. This year we are at least 5 deep at CB. Our only DE last season was Wake. This year Wake might not even play in the first couple of games. O.Vernon and D.Jordan should be causing havoc for most of the game. Even our LBs have Backups.

The Offense also has better depth this season. Last year we were playing 4,5,6s at WR. Now we have a Legit Top 3. We have a Stud RB in L.Miller with some good young backups ready to share carries. Our TE position has a Legit #1 and some good young players developing. The O-line has been significantly upgraded. We are 8-9 Deep on the Line.

Ireland is one draft and Offseason away from this team being more stacked than them Cowboy teams he help build for Parcells in Dallas.

Yes, Ireland was responsible for building those teams. Look how J.Jones drafting has suck since Ireland left as Assistant GM. Or Head of Scouting. J.Jones can't find an acorn to save his life. Dallas has gotten old real quick.

That was a good Trade. Ireland for J.Garrett. The Fins came out on top with that one.

49ers are dropping like flies...not a good start of the year for ACL/MCLs...wow...

Saying that LT is a Huge problem and that we will suck because of it is Asinine and Egregious.

They haven't played 1 Practice Game Yet. Never mind a Real Game.

What that tells me is the Fins are stacked and the people that want to find something to complain. Will find something to complain about. Plain and Simple.

The funny thing is the same people wanting Jake gone are the same ones CRYING that we should've resigned him.

With that said, I believe J.Martin will hold his own. A.Luck was never hurt in 4 years of J.Martin protecting him. And last season the WORST HIT TANNEHILL TOOK WAS BECAUSE OF JAKE LONG. NOT J.MARTIN.

Ok...honestly who knows definitively if it's the D-line playing great or that Martin is struggling? I'm sure it'll be a relief to Martin to look over at the other side of the ball Sunday and not see Vernon or Jordan. Not blowing off anything...are there new options now as opposed to months ago ?

Is it basketball season yet?

Yes, we all wish Branden Albert was here now. Because we know Martin sucks having not played a single down as a full time LT in a regular season game, let alone a preseason one.

God, some people here are just dumb.

okay...no blogging for me today...because I will just end up causing a blogtastrophe...see you guys for the HOF game!!!

When Martin played LT Tanny got shut out.

When is practice Today/. Any body knows?

Oscar, I thought they were now, could be wrong though.

Really? Also People are not dumb, they have strong opinions

Everybody on Ireland's side now. How fickle the Masses are! But we knew that.

11:30am as per Miami Dolphins.

We ALL? You're a spokesman for who exactly? I don't wish Albert was here. Perfectly willing to let this unfold and see how Martin does in the preseason before I rush to judgement.

Ryan Tannehill = Another Ireland bust?

Ireland is another Bill Parcells bust

I believe Ireland has shown a lot of restraint as a GM especially during the Sparano era. He probably knew that Colombo sucked big time still he went ahead and got it for Tony. Too timid? At the same time, who could reason with Tony Sparano?

The crazy thing is Morano was a o-line coach and so called expert... coldumbo... ooppss...

Oscar, my bad on practice info, sorry

Philbin has started off WORSE than Sparano! YIKES!

I predict 10 and 6 for the Dolphins this year.

Explain how having Brandon Albert is better than having D.Jordan and/or J.Taylor.

B.Albert isn't even better than J.Martin.

And as Ireland's #1 Fan. I find your statement Absurd Oscar.

If Someone has always ridden with Ireland it has been me. Now, that some of you have finally seen the light. Whoopie. But Dash-I have always said he was competent at his job.

And tell the clown before he goes on his idiotic rant. Trying to say me and him are the same. I don't impersonate others or try to act like someone else so people don't notice it is me.

Remember what Dashi always says. I don't hide. Even when I post by another name, I'm still the one you love to hate. And I let you know it.

We all know the clown was here yesterday. He's just an insecure punk, right Seth. That is what you are calling yourself today.

Sparano had no chance to succeed when Ireland couldnt provide him with a QB. Philbin is just as doomed with Ireland still at GM.

Phinmanksi, I'll try to hold my contempt in check and respond as inoffensively as possible to your idiotic post @ 10:25. Let's see, Sparano was 11-5 first year (so you're post is factually correct). But it's not the whole story. Sparano ENDED up exactly where Philbin started in a rebuild year. And most Dolphins fans will tell you Sparano was stuck in place at best, spiraling downhill at worst, while Philbin looks to be rising my every unbiased measure. There's more talent on today's team, there's better systems, more camaraderie, practices are run better, better management by the HC, better melding between GM and HC, HC and Coordinators, overall, it's a much better team today than Sparano's last year (or couple of years), even if the record hasn't shown much change.

I hope you're smart enough to know the disaster that was the Miami Dolphins wasn't going to be fixed in 1 Season? Philbin has begun the process of remaking the team to fit today's NFL. It will take him a few Seasons to get them to be competitors. Who knows, this might be Season 1 in the long climb to the top. But to be down on the team, at this point, is so incomprehensible to me that I'm not even sure what to say to someone who feels that way, other than there's always the Heat for you.

You dolts don't even understand the Albert reference. In was in response to Dirtybottoms post on page 1.

Was his way of getting the blog to recognize him as smarter than everyone else. He has the superiority complex like a couple of others here.

It isn't a complex when it is true.

Hell, I don't remember anybody on Ireland's side in Tony's last year here. You weren't even posting here at least under that name, Dashi.

Why do the stupid Dolphins keep hiring HC's that have never been NFL HC's before? Philbin, Sparano, Cameron, Saban. They all suck. When will they learn to hire an experienced NFL HC? The inexperienced coaches hasnt worked.

DC agreed.

What the clown says is asinine.

This team has gotten better from Year 1 to Year 2. Add to that the Cap hasn't been destroyed in 1 Season like with Spo. And that our offense isn't a gimmick and will also be better. That Philbin knows how to coach and develop players.

But he will keep spewing his ignorance.

You a Vietnam vet, Dashi.

Correct I wasn't posting here at all. Not just under Dash I. But period. Always read the blog but never posted. Agreed. I started off on the Heat blog when we were down against the Pacers in 2012, cause it would've been a catastrophe of Aztec proportion if the Heat would've lost that series and they kept that joke of a coach. It is still a shame that the heat can win 2 Titles without the proper coaching. Shows that players matter most in the NBA.

But from Day 1 that I have been posting here. I have let it be known Dashi is an Ireland fan. And that was during the year Ireland was catching the most Flak. Last Season. When Mando and his posse were on the I hate Ireland bandwagon.

My dad wasn't even born during the Vietnam war.

My bad, he was after it started.

Where were you posting at that time, Dashi, I mean if it can be known?

Then, Dashi, you're an imbecile.

Same blog still up? Oh well, nothing to see here. Have a great day all.

5-11 this season.

Like I said. I didn't start blogging til then, anywhere. I always read the Herald and been a long time member but never wanted to comment. Til I saw the Heat about to get kicked out and people were blaming Lebron and Not the Coach for the Heat Losing.

Then Being a Dolphin fan I progressed to this Blog. You think they Hate Dashi here you should see how it is when I comment on the Heat Blog.

You more than anyone knows and have seen my growth in the last couple years on the blog. I actually use to take some of the comments serious at the beginning. Til I realized that it was really 2 people doing all the insulting.

Dashi, you're an imbecile.
