Dolphins win, but Wallace upset

Although the Dolphins won the regular-season opener, 23-10 over the Cleveland Browns, Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace was clearly angry coming off the field and was still steaming after he dressed and left the Dolphins locker room.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland escorted a visibly angry Wallace off the field, putting his arm around the players waist and walking him as if leading him away from other people. Ireland was talking to Wallace the entire time the two walked back to the locker room.

Minutes later, Wallace, who caught only one pass for 15 yards, was one of the first players who left the locker room.

Can I walk with you, I asked?

"I don't feel like talking," Wallace grumbled.

Can you talk about the game?

"I don't want to talk," he answered.

Another reporter joined us and asked, "Can you talk about the game plan?"

"I don't feel like talking about it. Ask coach."

Wallace didn't have a catch at halftime. Indeed, the Dolphins hadn't even targeted him in the first half. They did immediately target him in the first series of the first half and he eventually finished the game with four targets. Brian Hartline had the ball thrown him 12 times and Brandon Gibson had the ball thrown to him seven times. Tight end Charles Clay had the ball thrown to him six times.

As he was walking away, Wallace was asked about the lack of targets in the first half.

"Ask coach," he said. "It's not my game plan."

Another question: In the second half they threw to you right away. Was something said at halftime?

"Ask coach."

This is not going to make Wallace, Miami's highest paid free agent, popular. It obviously doesn't look good that he was clearly thinking about his personal performance and situation ahead of the fact the Dolphins won the game.

Not a good look.

On the other hand, the kid has a point. Mike Wallace signed a $60 million contract. Not throwing him the football in the first half of a game he's single covered throughout is not good planning by coaches.

wow u serious, problems starting already. u won wallace who cares if u caught any balls

I would love to know what was said by, and to, Sherman at halftime.

And if I were MW, I'd be ticked, too. They are going to NEED him these next 4 games.

gonna need him every game. he opens up field for guys like hartline and gibson to have big games

Not sure how much of this is on Tannehill or Sherman but even if you don't throw deep, you can still target him midrange.

A few observations on win........... RE-POST!

Easy to blame the RB's but reality was the interior of the OL (including Pouncey) allowed Browns 3/4 DL to penetrate all game. Impossible for RB's to even get going when they had the DL in their face all game. Jerry and Cogs were muscled all game, the Tackles in contrast whom everybody was so worried about had a good afternoon.

If they don't solve the issues inside we will lose winnable games because we can't expect Tannehill to effectively sell play action or control clock having to throw every down. All things considered he played a very solid game. Also couldn't help but wonder after watching the team play what Keller would have done in this O with Gibson taking away alot of the pressure underneath? Although Clay did his best C.Cooley at H-Back putting together nice game (Now lets see consistency!)

The D is top-5 and will keep the team in alot of ball games. We went with alot of different front-7 looks in this game while reading through live blog wondered if anybody else was paying attention??

There was a formation which had Misi inside with Ellerbee with Misi providing inside pressure and Safety Jones playing off the edge (sort of at LB)

In last 6 Min. after turn over on downs we basically played some extra Pre-Season practice ball. We had DJ in game playing 15 yards off the line in pass D (for those that said he was strictly DE) even Shelby was in pass D on a play. It was the reason we gave up a couple of 4th down plays and Carroll was in at RCB with Wilson at Nickle. With Coyle getting LIVE reps on what he has coming!

Nice to see the Fins LB's handling the T.E.'s in pass D so well for a change in the Ireland ERA. Thought Ellerbee played real well except for some whiffs on tackle attempts of Richardson early were he showed bad tackling fundamentals reaching high at a power runner.

Wheeler played a whale of a game and Misi was helped alot by new wrinkles on D with LB's. There was a formation on a play were Richardson caught a pass underneath that had all 3 LB's playing a good 5 yards off the line before the snap, really after seeing this game can see why they resigned Misi whose roll will expand in the NASCAR set moving inside.

I read where some were asking what happened to the pass rush late and if Patterson was hurt and ask if you guys don't pay attention to all the shifting/exotic formations we ran especially late. This is the most athletic Dolphins D I've ever seen in Miami (better than the athletic Killer Bees or JJ's crew) can play power formations as well as have the speed to chase anything down sideline to sideline, call me crazy but thought Coyle showed his fondness of Ducks Football using some of those weird Oregon D formations.

Mike Wallace is a locker room cancer and that is why Pitt didn't want to keep him.

Not a big deal. I expect cooler heads to prevail. He'll come to his senses. That happens with competitors and guys that desire to be the best.

..That is sad..Look..The team made an effort to get him the ball in the second half. I have absolutely no time for a guy who is going to throw a tantrum. especially after a win. Be happy for your teammates. Hartline, and Gibson were ballin out. It wasn't your day. Get the fu(k over it and prepare for next week.

Now. I don't know exactly what Wallace was upset about. I have a pretty good idea, and I'm sure the team will peak the clichés, and say the right things. If I am right about why I think Wallace was pissed. He can suck it. Seriously. What a freekin doucher

one trick poney...if you cannot throw deep to him, at least he opens up spaces for others.

Already....

Wait,,,I can't leave yet! Hahaha Please tell us all again how we're bandwagon because we don't hang out in a blog with strangers during the Dolphins games! lmao Priceless!

Wallace was open for 4 deep balls. Tanne couldn't put it there.

I can tell you what's the problem. That idiot of a coach Philibin. Wallace probably left some trash or something in his locker during the week. Little pety stuff like that causes our idiot of a coach to take things to the extreme. If it were the OC not getting him the touches, I still blame Philibin for hiring this guy in the first place just because he taught you in grammer school. Sherman isn't considered a great offensive mind anyway.

lol dee funny.... but true

From last blog........

fin4life,

Easy to blame oline, but, you would be correct to. But how do you explain great rb's still becoming hof'rs playing nearly their entire careers behind terrible olines.

You have a point but the DL was in the backfield with alot of the handoffs in this game. On a positive Browns DC Horton dared Tannehill to win with man across and for the most part he did. Also the few runs that were positive were called back in this one. Really it was the interior of the OL, they were just muscled all game.

Umm yes it was good game planning because if anyone had noticed Haden didn't allow Wallace any separation. Every time Wallace had the ball thrown to him he was in a hand slapping match with Haden. Where was the separation?

And just want to say it was really smart by Wallace to cal Haden out before the game. That NEVER backfires on a player. Why give the guy bulletin board material?

And now he's mad?! Hopefully only at himself. I thought we got rid of Marshall because he was a head case. Looks like Wallace is just as bad so far. Don't worry about the win Mike, just keep worrying about your personal stats and match ups that go wrong. Idiot.

...I would bet Wallace wasn't upset about the lack of running game. I would bet that wasn't his concern. I bet it wasn't the slew of penalties during the second quarter. Maybe he thought he deserved an illegal contact penalty on one of those deep tries, he was still mad about that?
I don't think this is the case. This screams a I'm upset because I didn't get the ball. Nobody should be above the concept of "The Team"..I Hope I am wrong about the reason Wallace was upset(perhaps his cat is sick)If not..Philbin has to take action now. I don't care how much he makes. Attitudes like this make the team worse. It trumps whatever speed, or talent he may have..

All that speed and talent that was only able to get open 1 time.

Notice the way Jeff Ireland defused the situation? Another masterful move.

PHONY 78,
ALL OF YOU CIRCLE JERKERS NEED GET TOGETER AND HAVE A MALE NEGLEGE PAJAMA PARTY SLEEP OVER.
THAT WAY YOUCAN LICK EACHOTHER'S MALE POPSICLE STICKS ALL NIGHT LONG... ET IT OVER WITH....
JUST SAYING.....................................

early signs of huge troble brewing with this kid, imagine if we would of lost. he would of really started throwing everyone under bus

I get it being upset, but he has to get more looks than that. I think there are two issues here. One, OL played horrible for 3 quarters. Second, I'm not a big believer in Sherman as a play caller.

bane we have known sherman sucks for years, not a surprise

YG,

Did you ever think that maybe Armando doesn't hang out in the live blog because of you and all your aliases? Did you ever think tht was the same ring for guys like Mark, Kris , DD and Phins78.

I'm onto your act dude and all your names, it's not a coincidence thy are all here spewing anti-Dolphinstuff with you and that they disappear when the team does well and you leave. ark figured this out a long time ago and Kris has too. Stop blaming others and take a look in the mirror.

There's an old adage that people don't want to be around negative, know I alls. That's what you are.

A little salt in the wounds of the trolls. This game was won by the accuracy, leadership of T-hill and a great defense. Why are they always so wrong?

This is the type of game we will be playing, hard nosed D keep the score close and win it in the 4th quarter. Love the turnover increase and T-hill is being careful with the ball. Wallace needs to understand he is NOT going to get 8 to 10 balls a game, be a team player Wallace, you won the game, cry babies sit on the bench and maybe even bring McNutt off the practice squad for some insurance as Wallace could become a cancer if this attitude continues. The offense is still a work in progress and I look forward to steady improvement as the season goes on.

DD,

ARE YOU BLIND?

TANNEHILL UNDERTHREW A "WIDE OPE" WALLACE 3 TIMES.

THEN THERE WAS CLEARLY ILLEGAL CONTACT A 4TH TIME WALLACE WAS OPEN.

SO I COUNT THAT HAS OPEN 5 TIMES. 1 CATCH, 3 UNDERTHROWS, 1 ILLEGAL CONTACT.

THESE ARE JUST TIMES HE WAS ACTUALLY TARGETED.........

Great day for Reggie Bush today. I'm happy for the guy.

Guess we'll have to listen to an onslaught from YG and the trolls all week about what a mistake we made here.

That idiot of a coach just got us a win opening day on the road. You are the idiot.chump.

I watch alot of Football and hated the argument about ONE TRICK PONY with Wallace for one reason and that's the fact I saw him catch alot of 5 to 10 yard inside slants from Big Ben were he had monster YAC even going house. I believed given the Dolphins under Philbin/Sherman run a WC attack that Wallace would be huge catching these very passes and running all over the field like he did Vs. the Pack to name a game I knoe everybody saw! In Wallace defense to this point Sherman is basically using him to run fly patterns tacking the Safety (Browns #43) with him opening up the middle for Gibson? I also didn't get this use of the player!!

YG,

YEAH SURE THING BUD....GUARANTEED TOUCHDOWNS.....THREE OF THEM..

GREAT POINT....WHATEVER YOU SAY......GUARANTEED.

Tanne played like a man - that is the most important thing.
The 2nd most important thing is that we won.
Remember manliness is always the most important thing.

ETF IS A JOKE!!

How is Mike Wallace a CA when he draws triple coverage?

I'd be pissed too. Throw a couple of freaking deep balls in the first half. Other than Sturgis I wasn't too impressed with the offense. Defense was killing it. Remember this was the Cleveland Browns...don't get too excited.

OH YEAH, HE ALSO GOT YOU CRYBABIES A SIGN IN BLOG AND NW YOU HAVE EXCUSES NOT TO USE IT..........

I am glad no one is overreacting. Smh

SO I COUNT THAT HAS OPEN 5 TIMES. 1 CATCH, 3 UNDERTHROWS, 1 ILLEGAL CONTACT.

THESE ARE JUST TIMES HE WAS ACTUALLY TARGETED.........

I thought they should have called Hayden for P.I. on play were he obviously attempted to trip Wallace.

...Craig M..I refuse to participate in the live blogs. 1 I like watching the game with company. 2. The comments during the game are at best comical. In reality..Sad. It has the feel of a group of people who hate the team. People have every right to express their opinions, even if neccesarily shared by me. But the game day live blog is too over the top for me. So I choose to wait until after the game to comment.

MASSFISH, YOU SOUND STUPID!!!!!

This screams a I'm upset because I didn't get the ball. Nobody should be above the concept of "The Team"..I Hope I am wrong about the reason Wallace was upset(perhaps his cat is sick)If not..Philbin has to take action now. I don't care how much he makes. NO denying this point either.

BUSH 21 CARRIE 90YDS 4 CATHES 101YDS 1TD

IRELAND'S A F'CKING GENIUS....................................

The so-called victory, eked out against a far inferior team, is not the story, but a mere footnote to the real stories: (1) Bush's absence = sh**ty run game; & (2) Wallace's quite understandable anger = Phailbin's lost the locker-room, and our one-trick pony will play without feeling until he is traded or cut, i.e., he's a multi-million dollar bust.

Dusty....

Want to tell me how tough Cleveland will be @ the # again....

Hilarious.....

...YG. I'm not sure what you mean? I saw the play where there was questionable contact. I also saw the attempts at the deep passes. Personaly. I thought the first attempt was a penalty for illegal contact(Haden was hand checking far past 10 yards)..The one where they tangled feet was incidental(IMO)..but we both know this isn't why Wallace was upset after the game. If so. I apologize to Wallace. But I highly doubt this was the reason. Perhaps he just doesn't like Armando.

Great to see a win today in a must win game on the road. Wallace sulking after the game is something the coaches will need to deal with, but they should already be aware of it. Like people have said Wallace had a history of it.

Basically it's looking for the dark lining in a win by Armando. That's why people give him the negative tag, at least wait a day or something, let people enjoy the win.

Jesus 49ers looking to lay a beating on Pack who need to half to re-group

Perhaps he just doesn't like Armando.

Posted by: DarrylDunphy | September 08, 2013 at 05:46 PM

MAYBE?!

Like I said Tannehill...be happy but its Cleveland.

Why gee....stfu....

And post about the game....

Well know you are Armando's biach...so he will never root out his wet thang...

Give up the act.....

Toy are a troll...period....

..I just need this game to go over 48 so I can break even this week.

JUST BE HAAPY WE ARE 1-0 ..... For god sake who cares who is mad! Negative people go back in your hole!

Wallace isnt used to having a crap QB. Wallace-TanneBust is Marshall- HenneBust all over again.

Bottom line. Dolphins 1 and 0. Win opener on the road as an underdog.

Homers smart, trolls dumb.

1-0 d-head

I have Reggie Bush on my fantasy team. WOWZA!! WHAT A GAME!

Fantastic!!! It's about time someone stood up and pointed out that Miami (with Sherman and every other Offenive coordinator for the past 10 years) runs a "Throw 5 yards and pray to Jesus that the receiver breaks the tackle" offensive! Next time Ireland puts his hand around your waste Wallace and leads you out of the stadium...please knock him out with a quick elbow to the jaw. What's it going to take for the Miami Dolphins to understand that 3 and out is not a good thing. EMBARRASSING!

Maurkice Pouncey carted off field has torn ACL & MCL is done for Season. Second serious leg/knee problem for the Pro Bowl Center, looking like we drafted more durable twin so far!

Why Gee....

Tell me again about the message Tom Brady and the pats would send....30 points...right ?

HEY HEY DEE

HOW DO SPELL THE WORD "GRAMMER" ?????

LMFAO

Good thing I dont have Wallace on my fantasy team LOL

I like that he wants the ball but he needs to put on a better public face. You don't pay a guy 60 mill to not target him for a whole half though. He wants to live up to that contract. Id like to see Miami at least get him involved with a WR screen or something.

No need to overreact yet.
