Dolphins win, but Wallace upset

Although the Dolphins won the regular-season opener, 23-10 over the Cleveland Browns, Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace was clearly angry coming off the field and was still steaming after he dressed and left the Dolphins locker room.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland escorted a visibly angry Wallace off the field, putting his arm around the players waist and walking him as if leading him away from other people. Ireland was talking to Wallace the entire time the two walked back to the locker room.

Minutes later, Wallace, who caught only one pass for 15 yards, was one of the first players who left the locker room.

Can I walk with you, I asked?

"I don't feel like talking," Wallace grumbled.

Can you talk about the game?

"I don't want to talk," he answered.

Another reporter joined us and asked, "Can you talk about the game plan?"

"I don't feel like talking about it. Ask coach."

Wallace didn't have a catch at halftime. Indeed, the Dolphins hadn't even targeted him in the first half. They did immediately target him in the first series of the first half and he eventually finished the game with four targets. Brian Hartline had the ball thrown him 12 times and Brandon Gibson had the ball thrown to him seven times. Tight end Charles Clay had the ball thrown to him six times.

As he was walking away, Wallace was asked about the lack of targets in the first half.

"Ask coach," he said. "It's not my game plan."

Another question: In the second half they threw to you right away. Was something said at halftime?

"Ask coach."

This is not going to make Wallace, Miami's highest paid free agent, popular. It obviously doesn't look good that he was clearly thinking about his personal performance and situation ahead of the fact the Dolphins won the game.

Not a good look.

On the other hand, the kid has a point. Mike Wallace signed a $60 million contract. Not throwing him the football in the first half of a game he's single covered throughout is not good planning by coaches.

For crying out loud were you guys watching the game or what? So Wallace was pissed at the coaches?? Maybe it was because every time I saw an instant replay Hayden was interfering with Wallace or holding him. Kind a hard to get open that way.

THE NFL IS HARD TO WIN GUYS..BE GLAD WE WON..AS FOR WALLACE THEY THREW HIM THE BALL IN THE SECOND HALF ..THE WEIRD PART IS THAT THEY DIDN'T LOOK HIS WAY IN THE FIRST..WITH KELLER GONE ARE WR;S ARE GONNA PUT BIG NUMBERS..LAMAR MILLER LOOKS LIKE HE DOESN'T WANT TO GET HIT..STOP RUNNING THE BALL IN THE MIDDLE WITH HIM.I'AM GLAD SEAN SMITH IS GONE..ALSO WHATS UP WITH THIS GUY TRAVIS BENJAMIN..WHO'S HIS DAD MANUTE BOL..THIS GUY HAS THE FRIGGIN LONGEST ARMS I'VE HAVE EVER SEEN ON A SHORT GUY..FREAK,

This was a good win and in my eyes a must win!!

Let's give Cleveland a little credit. They do have a pretty good defense.

The colts DEF is not as good as Cleveland. Our OFF will be a lot better next week. The run game will be better.

And don't think Tanny does want to shut the Luck supporters up!!

Upset?
We win, why be upset?
Focus on next game not on personal maters.

Andrew,

I second your sentiments exactly

Seriously, Armando starts sounding like some of the trolls here. Why not write about the W? Or Tanne's good game? Or our awesome D? Or just about the fact that we went on the road and started our season with a win, which is always nice?

No, he decides to pick on the Wallace non-story and start creating controversy where none exists. WTF?

Is Lamar Miller as big a bust as D Thomas??

Armando has nothing better to do than try and start crap! We won! First time in how many years on opening day?

..I thought that Tannehill was very good today....When he had protection. This was probably a game that we lose last year. Absolutley no running game, and the pressure all on Tannehills shoulders to produce. Even the offensive line made enough adjustments in pass protection in the second half to give Tannehill time. (Don't get me wrong. The performance of the group was poor as a whole).

It looked to me that Tannehill was able to spread the ball around to multiple receivers(again something we rarely saw last year). He was definitely more accurate on the short to intermediate throws. And he was fantastic on third down. We also converted our only red zone trip into a TD...

Say what you will. Cleveland has a good front 7. The offense struggled at times. The run game was pathetic. and Tannehill made some mistakes. Overall. I thought he was better then what we saw last year. I was certainly incouraged.

Wallace is crap. You saw it today.

Defense had a great day.
Thanne, Gibson and Hartline had a great day.
Win day.

Nice Sunday.

Dont worry Arturo,

Armando is just a Cuban cockroach. LOL

Cry baby Armando !

"What a shameful Fookin performance!"

CRAIGMORON,

ONLY YOU AND YOUR CIRCLE JERKERS WERE ON THE BANDWAGON.

THE REST OF US ALREADY KNEW IDIOT.............. LOL...

Please tell us why gee....tell us ALL what you and your many names already knew.....

Lol....

Armando should write for any other team but the fins....cry baby

I think Tanny had a good game cosidering the running game was invisible. No running game to speak of and he did well. Good job Tanny!! I am glad Weeeden was sacked

I can see Wallace' point but this is the first regular season game and a good win for the team. Wallace will get his opportunities soon enough. Personally I'd be very content making 60M over five years just running around on the field....

Oh no........sounds like a Brandon Marshall in Sheeps Clothing.

All I have to say about Wallace and his attitude:

**Fvck You Mike**

After one single game in which the offensive(The Offensive Line Particularly)unit struggles to a Victory, if he can't be happy with victory, if all he can think about is Personal achievements, again, I say:

Fvck You Mike and your 60 million Dollar Contract.

If it's possible(which it is not most likely)put him on the block and trade him for a cheaper, less established No. 1.

If Wallace has a problem with being 1-0, he can Fvck Himself all the way back to Miami. I didn't know the 60 Million Dollar Man was a Cry Baby Be-Atch!

This situation sucks and it will continue to suck. You can change a game plan. But you can't change a filthy rotten rich man's attitude.

One more Time: Fvck Right Off Mike Wallace!

PS: Wallace Sucks!!!!

Wallace HATES TanneBust ALREADY!!

Wallace is trying to sulk his way out of his contract. Sure the money's nice, indeed very nice, but it tethers him to a Joke Franchise.
He shoulda known this before he signed......after all, we knew the team's a joke, and that knowledge was reinforced when they made a One-Trick Pony their off-season focus, instead of building a professional caliber offensive line.

Hayden coverd Wallace like a blanket.

Why is anybody surprised about this? Prima Donna Wallace held out wanting to be paid like Fitzgerald. He is a me me me player all the way.

You can't say he wasn't targeted in the first half. There were a few times Tannehill looked deep (most likely for Wallace) but checked down. I would question more the type of routes that were called to where he wasn't even thrown a quick out pattern just to get him going early.

Wallace is already pressuring Philbin and Sherman. He will now impact the next however many game plans negatively. Much like how Henne and then Moore had to try and force him the ball rather than have a solid, complete Game Plan.

This sucks, Ireland should sniffed this out BEFORE throwing all the cash at Wallace. At least now we know SOME of the REASON he was available in Free Agency. I always thought it was funky the way Pitt handled his situation and in signing that other guy. Now we know........after the fact of course(sarcasm....)unnnnnnnnnngh!!!!

Mike Wallace can Go Fvck Himself.

OH .JET FANS...GENO SMITH IS A BAD QB!I'AM GLAD WE GOT TANNEHILL....GENO SMITH SHOULD TRADE PLACES WITH JUAN PIERRE...NOT A NFL QB...

Looked to me that Wallace was open for at least 3 td's. RT put the ball short once, long once, out of bounds once.

Wallace is realizing that Tannehill sucks.....

CRAIGMORON,

BUT ONLY YOU CIRCLE-JERKERS ARE REAL FANS.

IDIOT, EV1 HEREKNOWS I'VE BEEN STILL POSTING AND SAYING POSITIVE THINGS. TRYING TO SREAD YOUR LIES AGAIN?

He is right....the closer the fins get to winning....the closer he FLIP-FLOPS back to the FINS side.....

Until he finally STFU....

Great day for the FINS....

Sh@tty day for you why gee....

See you after the "home" library opens about noon tommrow....

Even without being targeted Wallace helps because someone on D has to account for him. They haven't had that to worry about with Miami in a long time.

Armando, you're still a dick.

Henne/Marshall, Part Deux...........coming soon to an empty Sun Life stadium near you.

Can understand Wallace being upset and frustrated at how todays game unfolded for him and the offense. The coaches have to come up with ways to get him the ball. Hes going to draw the top CB each week he takes the field. Sherman has to show hes got confidence Wallace can beat the other guys top defender

HAYDEN HAS OWNED MIKE WALLACE..SEE HIS LAST 2 MATCHUPS..LIKE 2 25 O TD'S..WALLACE CAN HAVE A HUGE GAME VS. THE COLTS.OH GENO SMITH STINKS..SANCHEZ WAS LOOKING BETTER THAN THIS GUY EARLY IN HIS CAREER..SMITH IS GONNA GET WORSE.

So what part of "I don't feel like talking" says "Go ahead and keep asking me questions?" No respect.

They spent $60M bringing this guy in and they barely use him as anything more than a decoy.

I am truly happy we won. The defense looks awesome. I can imagine this offense would have been much better with Keller. The effect of his absence on what this offense can do was obvious; and even though Clay did make some catches, he is no Keller.

Sherman calls a boring, vanilla game that a better defense will destroy. Nothing about their drives was exciting. Like pulling teeth. I feel they have talent and will improve but I sure hope it's not so difficult to get things working as this one seemed, offensively.

Odin....

The man is competitive....

I'm ok with that....

And besides....

It was Armando salaguero asking to walk with him....

Wallace has seen the filth on this blog....I would have .kept walking also....

ARMANDO HATES THE FINS CAUSE A PLAYER OR COACH HURT HIS FEELING...BOO HOO!!!!!!! WE WILL BEAT THE COLTS NEXT WEAK..THE BROWNS WERE GAME PLANING FOR US ALL OFFSEASON..THEY NEW ALL THE RUNNING PLAYS..HILTON MEET BRENT GRIMES ..HE'S NOT SEAN SMITH...OH JET FANS THE JET'S ARE GONNA FIRE EVERYONE.

49ers are very good!

Wow, this guy is amazing. I hope that he does not start putting pressure on Tannehill to throw him the ball when he is not open. There is a reason that Gibson has passed Wallace; he knows how to get open. Wallace needs to be a team player. If he is just a decoy out there but they win the game, then he needs to accept that. It was obviously a good game plan as Tannehill threw the ball well today. This guy was selfish at Pittsburg and he is showing that again here in Miami.

This sucks, Ireland should sniffed this out BEFORE throwing all the cash at Wallace. At least now we know SOME of the REASON he was available in Free Agency.

As I mentioned before, why does this surprise anyone? Wallace held out a couple of times demanding Fitzgerald money. The writing wasn't just on the wall, it was in neon lights. The move smells of desperation or a quick fix.

We could have had Boldin and didn't even make a play for him. He tore it up in Balt and now in SF.

Nolan Carroll is better than R.Marshall

Ireland still hasnt realized a top WR is useless without a top QB.

Great game, good win, but Dolphins should've won by more.

Ref's didn't help. But defense was dominant.

TANNEHILL PLAYED GREAT FOR NOT HAVING NO RUNNING GAME.IF HE GETS ONE LOOK OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Road to the Super Bowl runs through the West in the NFC! Funny how this Div. was a laugher back in 08 to know hands down toughest in Football.

We could have had Boldin and didn't even make a play for him. He tore it up in Balt and now in SF.

Ireland's a Dope.

Wallace's beef was that he wanted more money than Antonio brown. Steelers had to decide which they wanted more. Obviously they chose Brown.
Me first won't work with Philbin. It's early in the marriage, but it's Sherman and Philbin who will have to make the conciliatory move. You know that won't happen.

First 60 yard connection with Tanny it will be over. Until the game plan again dictates the underneath passing game, and it will probably start again.
But, as Solomon Wilcots rightly said, just the THREAT of Wallace opens things up foir Gibson, Hartline, etc.

Now, if we could put barry Sanders in our backfield with Miller, maybe the THREAT of Barry.....
Nah.

I'm certainly happy that we won. However, with no running game and a defensive backfield all banged up I'm wondering where this team can take us, if anywhere.

We played a team that most everyone (especially the Browns fans)says isn't very good. If we hope to do anything this year big fixes have to be made. And with the schedule ahead they better be done quickly.

Oh, I would like to see the percentage of throws to the left compared with the amount to the right. Seems like 75% go left! If true that's an ugly pattern that T-hill is developing.

Wallace was on his way to the HOF before he met TanneBust lol

They should trade Wallace immediately for a top line offensive line man, then re-orient the offense to more of a running game. Then couple that with an offensive lineman in the first round next year. It's clear that this this is the weakness of the team.

Mike Wallace got mad a white boy out played him, Hartline that is!! HAHAHAHA
Problem is that T-Hill is not a long ball QB he is not accurate at all after 30 40 plus yards. But he just might get better he just has to continue throwing deep to be able to correct his vertical game...but yes I agree Wallace another diva! Let's see how Philbin the clown handles this situation, because JI is clueless
I think it's time for the PHINS to go get a veteran RB that can get those tough yards. Or some blocking type of TE even if they can't catch a cold. But man it was horrible on the OL, Tannehill would of had more TD if a running game was in existence...

Look I think the media is going to give Wallace a bit of heat because HE chose to get mouthy with Hayden in the press before the game. Now he looks bad and he knows it after the game. Hayden played him well.

So that's it....we should move on....no real story here at this point.

Next week he faces less quality CB's. Vontae Davis is their best CB and I don't see him playing as well as Hayden.

The other thing is Sherman needs to take better advantage of Wallace. Not one slant pass called to him? I don't recall seeing him in motion one time? I don't remember seeing a second WR next to Wallace to set a pick to free him up? C'MON Sherman, use your best offensive weapon. Don't waste him like you wasted Bush last year.

I understand why Wallace would get annoyed and show his frustration. I think it's a good sign that he was upset that he was not productive today. I prefer a player with a huge contract being upset about his lack of involvement over someone pulling a Chris Johnson and coasting the rest of his career. Wallace stressed how important it was to him to prove his worth this off season. The guy is showing his passion. Of course it's a bad thing if he shows this every week he doesn't get his numbers obviously. But moving forward I really doubt his numbers this game will be a common thing every week. We all gotta keep a open mind and realize the dude is in a crappy position. If he doesn't get his numbers he will be hated on by the fans and critiqued by the media. If he makes it a issue or if rumors come out saying he wants more looks and touches he will be ripped as well. So for better or worse we should at least acknowledged that his hearts in it to help out and his presence on days like this still opens up everything underneath as we all saw in the last td drive of the game for the Fins. Good opening day Dolphins. I'm proud of you guys. The Dline were men among boys today.

Jpao
You right not even Miller was invoked in the passing game out of the backfield, it's time to question and hold Sherman accountable for his poor play calling and game planing. Last year we saw it with bush and this year it's carrying over.. It's Dan Henning all over again!

GREAT POST!!! I completely agree....perfectly said.

Never has a victory tasted less sweet.

There is no joy today, just fear and trepidation about Irleand's latest Eff-Upps: the One-Trick Pony, now with Attitude, which will soon morph into Henne-Marshall territory; the shortsighted failure to retain Reggie Bush & Jake Long; the woefully thin offensive line; the still-open question of whether T-Hill has progressed to the point where he can compete against a non-Brown, real-team.

Hard to enjoy this when this is clearly the last time this team will be above .500

Next Coach/GM speculation will get cranked up around seven games in, the L.A. Question more toward the end of the season.

It hurts to be a Fin Fan.

Bodine,

I totally agree with you. We should have picked up Boldin for a lot less and used that money to resign Bush and Long. How good would our passing attack be with Boldin and our running game would have been much better with Long and Bush. Bush tore it up today in Detroit.

That is disheartening.
I was actually thinking positive regarding Wallace's day coming into this post.
Obviously you want, and need to see more production from him, but Gibson had a good day and Hartline had a great day.
Do either of those guys put up those numbers without Wallace on the field? I'm a Hartline fan, but I don't think he goes 9/144 if Haden was lined up on him each play. The positive is that this is the first time in what seems like forever the team has three legitimate targets at Wr.
Wallace must be a bigger part of the offense moving forward, and he's paid to win those difficult matchups, but at least for today his presence helped allow others to have success. It's a shame he doesn;t seem to see that.

Posted by: Emo | September 08, 2013 at 06:47 PM

Dude...really? This team traveled to play a NFL team in their home stadium and beat them. The D was dominant. The O improved significantly in the second half. Special Teams played well.

Stop it with the doom and gloom and celebrate the Victory....or go root for Rex Ryan and his WETS.

This guy is worse the Marshall. Marshall did not do this when he first got here. Marshall is also a more gifted receiver. All Wallace can do is run go routes. He is solid but not an elite receiver as his contract reflects. Great now we have a malcontent on the team that only thinks about himself. It does not matter to him that the team won!
