Dolphins win, but Wallace upset

Although the Dolphins won the regular-season opener, 23-10 over the Cleveland Browns, Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace was clearly angry coming off the field and was still steaming after he dressed and left the Dolphins locker room.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland escorted a visibly angry Wallace off the field, putting his arm around the players waist and walking him as if leading him away from other people. Ireland was talking to Wallace the entire time the two walked back to the locker room.

Minutes later, Wallace, who caught only one pass for 15 yards, was one of the first players who left the locker room.

Can I walk with you, I asked?

"I don't feel like talking," Wallace grumbled.

Can you talk about the game?

"I don't want to talk," he answered.

Another reporter joined us and asked, "Can you talk about the game plan?"

"I don't feel like talking about it. Ask coach."

Wallace didn't have a catch at halftime. Indeed, the Dolphins hadn't even targeted him in the first half. They did immediately target him in the first series of the first half and he eventually finished the game with four targets. Brian Hartline had the ball thrown him 12 times and Brandon Gibson had the ball thrown to him seven times. Tight end Charles Clay had the ball thrown to him six times.

As he was walking away, Wallace was asked about the lack of targets in the first half.

"Ask coach," he said. "It's not my game plan."

Another question: In the second half they threw to you right away. Was something said at halftime?

"Ask coach."

This is not going to make Wallace, Miami's highest paid free agent, popular. It obviously doesn't look good that he was clearly thinking about his personal performance and situation ahead of the fact the Dolphins won the game.

Not a good look.

On the other hand, the kid has a point. Mike Wallace signed a $60 million contract. Not throwing him the football in the first half of a game he's single covered throughout is not good planning by coaches.

I agree, Sherman is not a good game planner. To take heat off the passrush, Sherman should have had Miller run swing passes and delay routs of the backfield. You need to keep them honest. If they would have don't that, the LB's would have sat back a bit.

and this supposed "victory" hurts more & more as the revelations come to the surface.

The CURSE IS IN......................................

Loser fans only deserve LOSER TEAMS. Fins win and still lose....................................................

The Wheels on the Bus go Round and Round........

Round and Round...................

Round and Round.............

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Are the Wallace Reports false?

Is the photo of Stark flipping off the coaches photo-shopped?

Phailbin has a situation on his hands, and its a bad one, regardless of your ad hominem "troll" attacks on me.

You're right Anderson...something did happen right in front him...The Fins went to Cleveland and dominated them Week One. Would prefer to hear about all the factors that lead to this victory. instead Mando seeks to great drama. He is like the Oprah of the Miami sports scene.

Ross needs to step in and right the ship pronto!

Their O line sukkked worst than ours did. Wake owned that tackle or whoever tried to block him. Too much.

Guys ease up on Wallace. We all wanted him here. He's a great talent. I gotta agree with Kris. The guys super competitive. Those kind of us wear their hearts on their sleeves and they're hard on themselves. I'm confident that Wallace will b there or us many times this year.

On the plus side, both Gibson and Hartline had good games. It won't be long before defences will have to account for these two guys, hopefully opening things up more for Wallace. Looking forward to seeing Wallace working is magic against Vontae Dsvis next week.

Boldin first time playing with Kapernick and they were in sink, so what's the problem with Tannehill and Wallace? Simple Sherman.
Game planing around your best players, your playmakers. PERIOD.

We'll take the Ws in any way, shape and color, Wallace or no Wallace.

I'd be upset too. If there was ANY kind of deep game we could have EASILY handled that team. Not to mention A Boldin had 200 yards and 2 TDs, Marshall had 104 and a TD. Reggie Bush had a great game. Gibson dropped as many as he caught.

well he oened his big mouth this week and he stuck his foot in it. now go out and do your damn job and stop talking. talk is cheap. actions are louder then words. i knew this would happen to him.

It wasn't about Tannehill's accuracy or Sherman's play calling.

Did anyone happen to see how badly our O-Line was playing early on? For a substantial part of the game?

It's not easy to throw deep to Mike Wallace when your QB isn't getting the protection.

This is the problem I saw and this is the problem I have with Mike Wallace being upset. It's a team game and when one pary of the team isn't doing it's job, the whole team suffers.

In this instance, everyone should be happy with the win, including Salguero, Wallace and even Monkey Boy Himself.

Just saying..........

Wallace is absolutely correct and justified for being pissed off. If Tanne doesn't target him more, when they play better teams, it will be the difference between a win and a loss. I'm sure they'll get it right. Now on to another subject-preseason. This is why preseason is so important, cause it gives coaches an idea of the teams strengths and weaknesses. An IDENTITY. The identity on defense is simple- attack and destroy. Whereas the identity on offense is PASS, PASS, PASS! Obviously its the strength of the offense. Pass, pass, pass then when the opposing defense tires, you run the ball. We all know the weakness of the team is the run blocking O-line and the running backs. Next year they trade Iohn Ierry and Daniel Thomas plus a second round pick for Maurice Jones Drew. And with the first pick of the draft they select the best offensive guard.

Listen, look at it in a + way. We beat them pretty soundly without practically Wallace playing. Imagine when they add him to the Game plan. Yes?

The Raiders ran for 171 yards against the Colts. No excuses next week on why we could not run the football.

Wallace is demanding to be traded off the hapless Fins.

The other thing they need to remember is Wallace is just not to be used for long, deep passes. Throw short to him and let his speed get YAC, screens etc.

He didn't come here for the $. He turned down more to play for the Vikes. He came to MAKE PLAYS. He's said it several times!

I agree our O line did not play well, early on especially. But they have some huge Gorillas on their D line, mainly some guy named Phylis or something that nobody is going to be able to move straight on.

Lacy, 2.9 avg today. I guess dashe was......

The Dolphin circus continues. Even when they win they're a mess.

Anyone who complained today especially Armando need to like another team.... We won you dingbats ! On the road ! Sheesh! Be happy ... We will not win them all, remember how the fins did last year on the first game of the season! O-1. Idiots

Its no wonder the Steelers didnt want Wallace.

Besides some sloppy play, my main criticism of the Game, once again, is the lack of imaginative play calling by Sherman. Like somebody above said, there are a million things that can be done to soften those 8 in the box, even fool that Gorilla they have in the middle.

Ok it's the OL problem? Really. How much longer do us fans got to hear the same s h I t
It's the OL it's the OL! 6 years the same s h I
No it's about not getting the right personnel
The right coaching staff the right players. Who fault is that? Exactly Jeff fireland
Every year next year we draft this the year after that we draft this position!! Bull c r a p
It's not going to change until we get competent GM. President to run this orginazation Look at the elite teams. It's starts on top! Let's be real. Sorry guys but it's the truth! The problem is.........
How much longer JI keeps making bone headed moves.. Enough said!

Miller and Thomas = more Irescum busts

Joe Haden is very good.

Lots of conversation about a game that wasn't all that flattering to the 'Phins. They played a team that is probably ranked somewhere in the low thirties in talent and ability. Considering the opponent, we played between average and below average. Right now I don't see anything better then 8 and 8. Hope I'm wrong but have to call it as I see it!

No excuses next week?

WTF is that supposed to mean?

There are no excuses for today. The O-Line blew chunk and not just John Jerry either. Martin had a some big whiffs and burns early on. Jerry probably rated the worst. Even Cogs and Pouncey had their moments.

What kind of excuse can you come up with when you simply get out classed, outplayed, overwhelmed, etc, etc.....?

I give props to Tannehill, Gibson, Hartline and MAINLY the Defense for being able to pull a W out of that performance.

PS: I wouldn't judge Lamar Miller too much after having to run behind the O-Line we fielded today.

They are saying that the fukkk up at LV that they missed the spread on our Game by 14 points is being blamed on their super-computers.

Right now I don't see anything better then 8 and 8. Hope I'm wrong but have to call it as I see it!

If these scrubs ever go 8-8 they'll throw a parade.

I was called idiot troll by circle-jerkers yesterday for pointing out Wallace may have a rough go at Joe Haden.

Be careful, circle-jerker hate truth except when they warp it to serve their agendas.........

I like that!! Wallace us no Brandon Marshall. Feed him the Rock!!!!
To all the haters..

Reflecting back on how Ireland has built this team:

Defense: Odrick, Wake, Ellerbe, Grimes, Jones are complete studs. Misi, Patterson, Shelby, and Clemmons. If he hit a home run on Jordan this defense is going to be top 3. Great job by Ireland of building this defense.

Offense: It looks like he found the franchise QB. Hartline was a great draft pick (4th round). Key FA pick ups Gibson and Wallace. Clay (a 6th round pick) seems to be developing. Pouncey is a stud and it looks like Martin is going to be good at LT. Ireland is a RB, RG, and a second TE from having a dynamic offense. He will get that next year. He has done a solid job of building the offense.

I saw Clabo once beat badly and Tannehill sacked as result. I did not see the same thing from Martin.

No rb had worse olines to run behind than Payton and Sanders. Yet they never had 10 carries for 4yd games.

Dolfans love making excuse for players who don't deserve them. Then in a year or 2, that same player ends up being a "FORMER" dolphin.................

We will see if the fins futility running the football is because of the Browns defense or if our running game is that bad.

Dashi is smarter than a supercomputer when it comes to football.

Agreed with Kris, I like that Wallace wasn't happy. I think Mando is blowing it up more than it really is. He had to find the One Negative if there was one. You want players that want to be great.

The only thing the Fins need to do is get Wallace involved with some shorter routes. And that also falls on Tannehill a little. Tannehill needs to develop more chemistry with Wallace. Look for him more times than not.

Those talking about the fins didn't throw slants need to rewatch the game. All Gibson caught were Slants.

8-8 will be fine, considering the tough schedule we have.

Miller is big and fast(225 lbs) yet seems to play small and slow.

If he's really any good he would have had 20-30yds no matter how bad the oline played today.

Miller sucked preseason and still sucked today. Yea the oline sucks, but Miller does too. Face it dolfans, being in denial isn't going to make it go away.

Are you sure Clabo gave up a sack. I saw the outside guy stunt underneath and Jerry failed to pick him up(as he should have)and gave up the sack.

Also, I think(Not positive)Martin gave up a sack near the end of the first quarter.

Hello Ladies! How about those Dolphins? Not to mention looks like I'm going to win ALL THREE of my fantasy games (that's 3-for-3), and DC is about to pull off the Full Monty.

Loved the game, though we played sloppy, it's all about a win when you're on the road.

However, odin, I have to disagree with you. I think the lack of looks to Wallace has EVERYTHING to do with Sherman. The man is just not creative enough, and it will hurt us when we play a more dynamic offense. This is the NFL of 2013, you don't just send your X receiver out in the same spot running the same routes every single play. Wallace is your show pony, you need to make him part of the show each and every week. Hayden is a beast, I get that. So what about moving Wallace to the other side? What about double moves? Slants? Screens? GET CREATIVE, but get your $60 mil player the ball. Having him angry (and we all know WRs are divas, so that shouldn't surprise anyone) is not helpful in the long run. Hartline and Gibson are fine, but they can't do what Wallace can do (which will help the run game more than anything else).

We need creative play-calling, EVERY GAME! Going by the book won't win you games in today's NFL. Sure, we beat Cleveland (not to diminish it too much) but that was expected for a team with our goals. Can we beat teams we AREN'T expected to beat? Only way to do that folks is to USE OUR WEAPONS. And Wallace is the #1 weapon. He can do more than a fly route. Let's hope Sherman opens up the play book now that he has a QB who can manage a bigger work load.

That's the **REAL** Eli Manning.

That first pass of the game is ALL Eli.

The Super Bowls were because of Defense and surrounding tallent.

But Eli..........? See the first pass of tonights game-LOL!

We could win 49-48 and someone would complain about the defense. We could win 3-0 and someone would complain about the offense. We could have two 100 yard rushers in a game and someone would complain we did not have a good passing attack. We could have three 100 yard receivers in a game and someone would complain about our running attack. If we played a perfect game against anybody, someone out there would find something to whine about. If we had a perfect season, someone would...oh yes, we already did that. AND SOME PEOPLE STILL FIND SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT REGARDING THAT ALSO. Enjoy the win, fix the mistakes, and come back next week and lets win another road game. 1-0. Move on to week 2. GO FINS!!

I'm pretty sure it was Clabo from the R side, odin, but mine is 1 take only. You check it out.

Not overly concerned about sacks. Browns dc very clever with his disguises.

We had like 4 1st half sacks, but figured it out 2nd half, giving up only one sack.

San Fran has a franchise QB, Seattle, Pitt, NE, Indy, GB, Dallas, ATL. Heck even CARSON PALMER outplayed our QB!

His stats are AVERAGE. He'll always ONLY, EVER be AVERAGE!

Give him Wallace, Keller, Marshall, Bolden together and it won't matter.

And the running game, REGARDLESS of the reason is cooked. Bush was better, line or no line.

Dumbass Odin,

How did like that Eli fool?

Hey if Wallace weren't pissed I wouldn't be happy. It'll all be fine (except in the tiny minds of the trolls). Just laugh at the trolls that's all they have. We got a big road victory today and that's what really counts.

Unfortunately, we don't have any Paytons or Sanders, not even a Bush anymore to take us out of unpleasant spots. Hmm...

This hurts so bad.

Am going to turn out lights, fire up candles & listen to music, but I cannot decide which would be the most appropriate band for this hollow-victory: The Cure, Fugazi, Jimmy Eat World or maybe The Smiths.

Any suggestions?

Miller sucked preseason and still sucked today. Yea the oline sucks, but Miller does too. Face it dolfans, being in denial isn't going to make it go away.

Apparently you're an absolute expert on at least one SUBJECT!

I bet you'd suck too........if Tom Brady had you by the ears!

Nothing hollow about putting a beat down on any NFL team. That's just beyond dumb. That was one of the most dominate defensive performances I've seen in a long time. I almost felt bad for Weeden having to face those guys series after series.

How did like that Eli fool?

Posted by: LOVE FAKING 17-0-IN-YUR-ASS! | September 08, 2013 at 08:38 PM

ROTFLMAO - Huh.......?

I know you're trying YG, LORD knows you're trying.

The Wheels on the Bus go round and round......

Round and Round........

Round and round........

PS: YG, take Brady's weiner outcha mouf and your sentences wouldn't come out that way.

Bhwaaaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

I love how a win against the Browns is like a loss to some people. Lol.

Two SB victories over the best QB/HC combo of the modern era.

Eli is human. All qb's make bad throws. Eli makes up for them. As we already have seen.

Trophies speak louder than words.

A win is a win is a win...

The Defense played lights out for the most part.
The Offense struggled...didn't take a chance on Wallace deep; no running game to speak of; O-line struggled against the Brown's D.
Special Teams was mediocre for the most part.

But, it's the first game of the season, and this team should get better the more they play together. Only the Defense came out strong. Tannehill and the Offense start slow then slowly pick up speed (hope that doesn't become a trend all year long).

Miami is 1-0!!!! I'll take it...

Miller was basically benched. He couldn't run. He couldn't block.

Dashe was wrong AGAIN!

boy once he did throw to Wallace those safeties dropped back and everybody was open underneath.

Wallace needs to stop being a baby, he will get the ball a lot don't worry..first game man...
