Dolphins win, but Wallace upset

Although the Dolphins won the regular-season opener, 23-10 over the Cleveland Browns, Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace was clearly angry coming off the field and was still steaming after he dressed and left the Dolphins locker room.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland escorted a visibly angry Wallace off the field, putting his arm around the players waist and walking him as if leading him away from other people. Ireland was talking to Wallace the entire time the two walked back to the locker room.

Minutes later, Wallace, who caught only one pass for 15 yards, was one of the first players who left the locker room.

Can I walk with you, I asked?

"I don't feel like talking," Wallace grumbled.

Can you talk about the game?

"I don't want to talk," he answered.

Another reporter joined us and asked, "Can you talk about the game plan?"

"I don't feel like talking about it. Ask coach."

Wallace didn't have a catch at halftime. Indeed, the Dolphins hadn't even targeted him in the first half. They did immediately target him in the first series of the first half and he eventually finished the game with four targets. Brian Hartline had the ball thrown him 12 times and Brandon Gibson had the ball thrown to him seven times. Tight end Charles Clay had the ball thrown to him six times.

As he was walking away, Wallace was asked about the lack of targets in the first half.

"Ask coach," he said. "It's not my game plan."

Another question: In the second half they threw to you right away. Was something said at halftime?

"Ask coach."

This is not going to make Wallace, Miami's highest paid free agent, popular. It obviously doesn't look good that he was clearly thinking about his personal performance and situation ahead of the fact the Dolphins won the game.

Not a good look.

On the other hand, the kid has a point. Mike Wallace signed a $60 million contract. Not throwing him the football in the first half of a game he's single covered throughout is not good planning by coaches.

I have to admit I am surprised the Fins won today. Someone posted shortly before halftime that the Browns would score and the score at halfte would be 7-6, Browns. Sadly, I didn't doubt that would be the case, and sure enough, it was. I thought for sure we'd be looking at 0-1 to start the season, losing to a perennially bad Cleveland team. I watched the Bills/Cheatriots game and just knew the Bills would screw it up and lose. The Fins finally did NOT screw it up and blow the game. That, to me, is a step forward for this team. Tannehill is going to be the best Dolphins qb since Marino. He now has weapons, but the o-line must get their sh#t together. And it seems that YG wants to blow Craig M & Dashi.

It's absolutely brutal on the Browns blog. I don't think those fans know just how good this defense is and certainly aren't giving our guys a lot of respect. They are just piling on Weeden and the whole team without mercy. I thought he was fine but their OL was just flat out overwhelmed by our talented vets in the front 7.

Our D could line up against those guys and beat them 8 out of 10 times easily.

We have no running game. Miller sucks. He goes down faster than Dashi in Wilton Manors.

Tell it like it is Darkoak. I agree you're not a fan if you can't enjoy this win. There's few perfect teams in this league.

Cuban,

My offer still stands

Mel...that joke is old.... new joke please...

did you know that dashi is french slang for 'rim job'?

coincidence?

fin4life,
I agree that the interior of the line didn't play great, but up the middle running including a touchdown all came up the middle. The edges of the OL were the real problem with our line.

RT showed good poise and clear improvement. Sherman had no commitment to the run and didn't move Wallace around at all. Not one slant route over the middle, nothing. Sherman is doing great with RT but his play calling is predictable.

Started the season with a W! That's all that matters!!

Dashi, I'am hoping Lamar just had a BAD GAME....

BRADFORD NOT SACKED TODAY 300 YDS 2TD WIN

Jerry has to be replaced or push himself away frome the dinner table. No way a guard should be Bull rushed like he was today. Tannehill was afraid of Hayden. No question. Wallace did well in Pitt when Rapelessburger had to improvise. Playing to that strength, 11 has to pick his spots (a la Elway) to find him

Dashi, The way myFF team performed today Makes Idiot Ireland look like a Football Genius....

Reggie Bush had a big game and so did Brandon Marshall..Just wait until Mike Wallace gets traded to a team that appreciates his skills then he will flourish!

Man Dez Bryant didn't do sh I t on my FF team. Victor Cruz was unbelievable! I still lost though

Tony Dungee still looks like that "Uncle" you don't want your kids having a sleep-over at his house... Just Saying...

Guess Jake Long back to his old self

Missed the game, Did Tenn. QB get sacked a lot??

"and so did Brandon Marshall"

Marshall 8 rec, 104 yds, 1 TD.

Hartline 9 rec, 114 yds, 1 TD.

Remind me what I'm supposed to regret here?

... RT was classy about Wallace's gripe:

'Tannehill said Cleveland doubled up on Wallace and covered him well, but that strategy also opened the field for receivers Brian Hartline (nine receptions, 114 yards, one touchdown) and Brandon Gibson (seven receptions, 77 yards).

'β€œI’ve been there playing receiver back in the day when the defense takes you away and it’s frustrating,” said Tannehill, a receiver at Texas A&M before he moved to quarterback. β€œBut by them taking him away it really opened up Gibson and Hartline to make plays.”'

WTF..?!? is the reporter talking about.....bad on Wallace?!!
They man was brought here tomake plays!! and they don't get the ball to him because the offense play calling sucks eggs!!! (defense gets 3 TOs and they can convert into more points???)
How can you fault a man for wanting to contribute and earn his money!???
The reports are just as STUPID as the management and coaches

va, Just so you know I didn't mind the play calling, If you want to talk about sucky play calling check out the Phins when Henning was OC and Sporno was HC, Now that was sucky coaching...Again JMO...

Probably why Starks gave the coaches the finger...At least he'll likely get his wish now. No way Philbin tolerates that

We have no running game. Miller sucks. He goes down faster than Dashi on a corner in Wilton Manors.

Reggie Bush had a big game and so did Brandon Marshall..Just wait until Mike Wallace gets traded to a team that appreciates his skills then he will flourish!

Pujo, With the receivers that Detriot has the defense is stretched out all over the field leaving lots of room for Reggie, Anyone with Reggie Bush on there FF team is gonna score big time....

Ahhh it's Marc my old friend...
Have that sexx change operation yet??

Cuban,

I'm offering you better WRs for your team. And Mendenhall and L.Miller should have similar seasons.

I just want L.Miller, because I want L.Miller and E.Lacy on my team.

You can pick R.Mendenhall and 2 of these WRs

S.Johnson
M.Austin
A.Brown

Or

Mendenhall and H.Nicks

Just saying.

Or if you want, since it doesn't look like you want to trade L.Miller.

2 of those 4 WRs for A.Rodgers

Until Reggie gets hurt, and he always is hurt playing on turf eventually.

Great game though Cuban. This is going down to the wire tomorrow.

Dashi

Lacy, 2.9 yards a carry

Miller, .3 yards a carry, lol

How is his 95% right?

Cuban on the Texans game tomorrow. You might want a low scoring game with a lot of turnovers. I want a High scoring game with few turnovers. I guess we both will be watching.

Hi Dashi!

Yes Dashi, Iam hoping maybe San Diago found a good run defense during the off season....We'll see..

Wilson was drafted in the First Round last season. Bet Eli wishes he had L.Miller or E.Lacy instead.

Again, your opinion means chit to me. I know football. And I definitely know more football in my 29 years living than you do with almost a century of just taking up air.

Even if you switch your name. I still haven't given you permission to talk to Dash I.

Who had a better day?

E.Lacy
T.Richardson
M.Ingram

Miller is a bust. He is not tough. He can only run well if there is a nice hole. He can't break a tackle. He can't block. That is why Thomas replaced him most of the second half.

Guys, one has to be objective. 0.3 yards a carry is horrible. My grandmother can do that. Even if the line sucks, a good back gets more that 0.3 yards a carry! That is one foot! One foot!

I won't be surprised if we trade for a RB or draft a RB high next year.

Gotta Catch some Dinner with the Wife...
Aloha kids.....

Letting Bush walk was a mistake. Ireland miscalculated.

Here is our dilemma, who is going to pick up the running game? If we don't get it together next week, defenses will be playing the pass every down. No way we go anywhere like that.

According to most of you trolls, Cleveland wasn't even on the field. The Phins should have won 98 - 0. Morons, the team played very well. Cleveland has some very good lineman. The qb is also pretty good.

Someone posted shortly before halftime that the Browns would score and the score at halfte would be 7-6, Browns. Sadly, I didn't doubt that would be the case, and sure enough, it was.

IT WAS ME STUPID DASHIDICKSUCKING CRAIGMORONGAYSEXFUCKING IDIOT.

Hurts so bad.

The Wallace & Starks & No Running Game Crisis haunts this "victory."

Has "winning" ever felt so bad?

Cleveland shouldn't have scored a TD. That is Correct.

The Offense should've played better. That is also Correct.

M.Wallace should've got more involved. Even if it was just running 4-5 Hartline Routes(12 yd comebacks). M.Wallace should be targeted at least 10 times a game. The Wisest would have had that written in his Contract.

M.Wallace will/shall also refer to himself in the 3rd person if he were ever to succeed in Miami. And do a couple Old Spice Commercials.

7-6. So you were betting the Dolphins to be losing at half time, you prick.

Who was saying the Dolphins were going to beat Cleveland 23-10, about a week or 2 ago?

If B.Hartline and M.Wallace both can get 7-8 Catches a game. Watch out.

B.Hartline already matched his TD total from last season.

While Wallace still hasn't earned his Money, Hartline has already done his job for the season.

How much that pains me to say. Sometimes even The Wisest makes mistakes.

good night people sweet dreams. enjoy the win...
Go phins go!!!

Surf the Net..........the blogosphere is fixated on Wallace's sulking. Nothing else matters.

EVERYONE WHO THINKS THIS MAN SHOULD NOT BE UPSET FOR NOT GETTING THE BALL THROWNED HIS WAY BUT 5 TIMES ARE THE SAME ONES WHO DOESN'T CARE THAT WE'VE BEEN 7-9,6-10,8-8 AND 7-9 AND WILL BE THE SAME ONES BLAMING HIM(WALLACE) WHEN HE DOESN'T CRACK 1000 YARDS RECEIVING AFTER SIGNING 60 MILLION CONTRACT. THE GUY SHOULD BE UPSET AND THIS THROW ONLY TO "THE WHITE BOY" CRAP HAS TO STOP RIGHT NOW BEFORE THIS BECOMES A TREND. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH HARTLINE OR GIBSON GETTING PASSES THERE WAY BUT GET WALLACE INVOLVED ALSO. WHAT'S WRONG WITH SHORT PASSES,SCREEN PASSES ANYTHING TO GET THE MAN INVOLVED. THIS IS SHERMIN AND TANNEHILL FAULT AND I KNOW THERE IS A HINT OF RACISM ASSOCIATED HERE. BY NOW TANNEHILL/WALLACE COMBO SHOULD AT LEAST BE OPERATING BETTER THAN 1 F...ING PASS. HOW CAN SHERMAN SIT UPSTAIRS VIEWING THE ENTIRE FIELD AND CANNOT SEE HOW TO GET THIS MAN INVOLVED. IF ANY OF YOU NAYSAYERS NOTICED THE OFFENSE DID NOT START MOVING UNTIL AFTER THE TEAM STARTED THROWING THE BALL HIS WAY N THE 2ND HALF. WE NEED WALLACE TO PRODUCE SO GET HIM THE DAMN BALL ALSO.

What's going to happen when he doesn't play well in a blow out loss...and the losses start to pile up. The Dolphins are a train wreck waiting to happen...

It is no coincidence that the O started flowing better after they threw a few passes Wallace's way to open the 2nd half. Decoy or whatever he is, the guy runs great routes, fast as hell and of any kind, and puts the fear in the hearts of D Coaches. Mr. Sherman, I know where they are teaching creative thinking classes. You want the address, just ask.

Yeah, you got to me today, Armando. Apuntate una. But you know I NEVER forget.

Solomon Wilcots still doing the Dolphins games lmao.
This means your team is irrelevant.

Bring on Beesley Reece.
Ian Eagle.

Enough with the "F" Wallace comments!! He's human!

The guys got a point! I'm sure he was happy with the win but he wanted to be more involved with the win with his own receptions. ...I don't blame him. You pay a player $60mm to be "The Man" and then do this?

I was actually wondering if he was even in the game in the first half. In the 2nd half Tannehill had him open a few times and just whiffed. Even during questionable interferences. T-Hill's long ball accuracy is an issue and it was on the coaches to already have corrected the bomb connection to Wallace by now.

It was also on the coaches to have gotten Wallace more involved early. Even on short passes. Short hook ups would have kept Hayden honest and more susceptible to stop and go routes to the house. So try to be a little more objective and understanding about the situation.

PS: If the line doesn't start creating running lanes soon we will be in a world of pain with that issue.

If he had 4 catches instead of the one, he might have had the ball thrown to him more times.

He is a selfish thug head case, like Marshall, and like 90% of all WRs of his type. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Remove your PC glasses if not.

Punk, your team won the game, you selfish gangsta. Wow. Get your head on straight. But it can't happen. It's an IQ issue.

Did watch the second half and must say the passing game is spot on,,,but,,,the run blocking is terrible. Dolphins have 5 linemen who refuse to engage the defense line except in pass blocking, the easiest form of blocking. Remain in contact and on the count of three the ball is away. Run blocking requires a little more man power and requires the OL-men to be more,,,manly, tougher, a little nasty. The only one fitting that bill is the LG. Ireland needs to have an OL fair. Invite all FA linemen throw the stick on the ground and tell the FAs, "we have openings, need some tuff guys, theres a 10 min time limit, the last three FAs standing gets the job".

#1 You're right>>>You can't blame the running game, but do you know why?? Because we DON'T HAVE ANY RUNNINGBACKS! We have scrubs! You could take these guys and put them behind the Dallas Cowpies linemen of their 90's teams and their yardage would still suck!!
Lastly, mike wallace shouldn't have to put up with the crap he did from these POS! No player does. The next time one of these social lowlifes can't take "no I don't want you in my face right now" for an answer plant one right between his eyes.

I didn't put too much stock in pre-season training camp when Tannhill and Wallace were not connecting. But to leave him out of game plan bugs me. He was not targeted in 1st half. On many plays he should be first option. I am starting to think this was ireland signing (he needed a big name to so fans would get off his back) coaches were not on board.

Wallace is paid like a #1, at least try to force it in there to prove his worth or his lack thereof.

Wallace will soon realize he is not the true #1 elite WR who can outmuscle guys & make catches like Boldin, the Johnsons, Fitzgeralds or the NFL.

Those are the true #1 WR's. Wallace is gonna learn real quick that his presence in this offense is allowing Hartline & Gibson to mop up.

Try to force feed him 1 game so he understands he is NOT or will ever be that type of WR.

To his defense, he doesn't have to go deep to be effective. Hayden was giving him a crazy cushion. Throw some screens to make Hayden have to play up. Use him on drag routes, curls. I don't think he was used properly yesterday but, he'll never be the guy he thinks he is.

ha ha I am a lifelong Steeler fan...me and any other Steeler fans I know were so relieved to see this guy go...he is only concerned for himself, Miami was duped into that huge contract for someone who will only catch a ball thrown right on the money. If he's even remotely covered or the ball isn't on the numbers, he ain't catchin' it. Sure he's fast but you can't throw downfield every play. Good riddance.

Cry me a river, Mike.

Me first.

Should we be surprised?

Hmmm.....wonder what would have happened had we not let St Louis out bid us on Jake Long and Jared Cook - they sure seemd to make a differnce for the Rams - Cook is an athletic beast. Oh and how does letting Reggie Bush go look after the nearly 200 yds he had for Detroit....when our running backs didn't have 20.

Typical Ireland for every decent move, he makes two stupid ones....
