Friday afternoon buffet of factoids and thoughts

The weekend is almost here and there are still interesting things happening at practice while the folks at ProFootballFocus.com continue to feed me more material so that I can, in turn, feed you.

Here goes:

First, Colts starting running back Vick Ballard is out for the rest of the season after he suffered a knee injury in practice on Thursday. Coach Chuck Pagano said the injury was non-contact in nature in that Ballard put his foot in the ground and the knee gave out. Colts owner Jim Irsay said the team has placed Ballard on injured reserve.

That means the Colts are obviously lessened. Donald Brown and Ahmad Bradshaw are now asked to carry the load for Indianapolis. Kerwynn Williams will also be promoted from practice squad.

As to the Dolphins:

Jamar Taylor continues to sit out practice with his hernia/groin issue. Obviously, as he has not practiced in two weeks, he's nowhere near ready to play. At best, I would guess he'll be ready just prior to or after the bye. At best.

Dimitri Patterson (groin) was at practice today and will play, as has been reported here previously.

[Update: Patterson was limited in practice all week and is listed as questions, but again, he'll play. Wille Davis (toe) was limited in practice the whole week but is listed today as out, along with Pat Devlin (ankle) and Taylor].

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said right guard Danny Watkins, signed a week ago, "has been in the building a lot" trying to learn the Miami system. That's a good thing. But there are currently no plans to have Watkins replace John Jerry in the starting lineup.

The folks at ProFootballFocus continue to send me more material to pass along to you.

Today's offerings:

QB Ryan Tannehill had the lowest accuracy percentage of any quarterback when under pressure in Week 1.

RB Lamar Miller had 0.0 "Elusive Rating" and didn’t force a missed tackle on any of his 10 rushes

Left tackle Jonathan Martin was 55th out of 65 tackles in Pass Blocking Efficiency in Week 1

Cameron Wake was second in Pass Rush Productivity for 4-3 DEs after leading the league in total pressures.

If you read this blog, you saw Ryan Tannehill answer the Mike Wallace situation of a week ago by promising he would not force the football to the $60 million receiver no matter how much folks want the two becoming a great pitch and catch combination.

Philbin today seemed to give his quarterback some cover on the topic when he said Tannehill's "decision-making was good" in a game he only threw to Wallace five times.

"I thought the ball was going to the right spot throughout the course of the game," Philbin said.

That's interesting because if the quarterback is doing the right thing and making good decisions and that yields only five targets of Mike Wallace, something is amiss in the Dolphins scheme that so easily allows an opposing defense to eliminate the team's deep threat.

This will require more attention going forward.

Finally, the NFL tells me defensive tackle Randy Starks will not be fined by the league for his one-finger salute of the Miami sideline during last Sunday's game at Cleveland. The league says it is a team matter and thus the Dolphins are free to fine or not fine Starks as they deem correct.

And what did Dashi say about Daytona.

Forgive me but it's raining and we're in the office. It's like a funeral in here so the blog is keeping me entertained.

I want the scoop! Mark help me out, what's the scuttlebutt? haha

Some $ coming in on the Dolphins in LV. Means nothing.

When you're loosing a game 6 to 7 at half time and your defence is dominating and your QB doesn't even look your way on offense, that is plenty reason to be upset.

Remember last year when the Texans blew us out in week one? Then we blew out the Raiders in week two?

Last year we were 7-9. This year we will be 8-8 OR 7-9 again.

mando thinks the patriots are the bomb....how bout pff's rating for him last night....oh yeah, we know...its his receivers fault

I thought brady's losing his cool last night was a tad bit unproffssional...I don't care who u are.

Mando, why would it be surprising that the team's No. 2 WR (which is what Wallace is) was targeted "only" 5 times. Five times is about right for a No. 2 who plays on the outside. Wallace is the team's No. 2 receiver, being a 55 for 800 guy. Hartline, the teams No. 1 WR, is an 80 for 1200 guy. So the No. 1 gets targeted more, obviously.

BLOG HIT TROLL AT 3:07 PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND, THANK YOU. K

Tannehill lacks the accuracy of an NFL QB. He'll always be a below average QB.

Posted by: Monte | September 13, 2013 at 03:07 PM

Bingo! And thats exatly why Wallace is so pissed.

Well P78, Dashi hypothesized that Mando and the Herald got rid of Daytona by threatening to inslude the authories. To me, it sounds a little far fetched but when you consider this is Mando's JOB, not a hobby like it is for us, and that cook was going absolutely roughshod on topics that have absolutely nothing to do with football ... when you also consider he used to live in here and wouldn't leave just because Mando asked him to change his and his response was to not change his name and call everyone in here Nazis ... well??? MAYBE?!?!?!

After giving Wallace 60 mill ITS THE TEAM THAT SHOULD BE PISSED!

Last year Wallace got 800 yards and an underwhelming average of exactly 2 catches for first downs *per game*. He has declined since is TWO decent 1200 yard seasons. Not sure why everything thought he'd be the second coming of Randy Moss.

Hartline, the team's No. 1 WR, got 1250 yards and 3 first down catches per game last year.

Hartline got his results with a rookie QB on a horrible team. Wallace had Big Ben.

#useyourbrain

LISTEN THAT WAS JUST GAME 1AND WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. THERE WILL BE DAYS WHERE ALL 3 RECEIVERS WILL HAVE BIG GAMES AT THE SAME TIME AND THERE WILL BE WALLACE DAYS (SUNDAY) AND THERE WILL BE GIBSON DAYS(SUNDAY) .. THE REASON IT'S NO TIME TO PANIC IS THE RUNNING GAME HAS YET TO GET GOING AND IT WILL IMPROVE, WHEN THAT HAPPENS THAN PLAY ACTION IS TANNEHILL'S STRENGTH AND THAT OPENS UP EVERYTHING FOR THE RECEIVERS ESPECIALLY WALLACE. ON SUNDAY IF THE RUNNING GAME IS ON AND IT WILL BE,, THAN THE FINS WILL RACK UP POINTS AND THIS GAME WILL NOT BE CLOSE.. I RESPECT LUCK AND I LIKE WAYNE AND HILTON BUT I DO NOT SEE THIS TEAM BEING ABLE TO HANDLE THE FINS PRESSURE ON DEFENSE. THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS THIS GAME CLOSE IS NO RUNNING GAME,AND A DEPLETED SECONDARY.. IF EVERYTHING REMAINS INTACT FINS WIN EASY.. GOOD DEFENSE AND GOOD QB PLAY WILL WIN 80% OF THE TIME AND THAT'S WHAT THE DOLPHINS HAVE DONE SINCE CAMP OPENED. DOLPHINS 34 COLTS 17

Ohhh gotchya Mark. It's pretty funny because the blog has been so pleasant and I was wondering why. And that guy and the million aliases that accompanied him are mysteriously missing. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I wish I knew for sure so I could commence in laughing my a#@ off and congratulating Mando for finally taking this guy down. I would LOVE to know for sure.

Ireland blew 60 mill more of Ross's money? lol

BPOTD!!!!

Last week, in game 1, Reggie Bush got 190 yards from scrimmage. This is about 25% as many yards as Wallace got in 15 games last year.

Literally.

We lost Bush and gained Wallace. Think about it. Bush won't get 190 every game, but even last year he gave us 1000 rushing and, what, 300 receiving? That's 1300. Wallace got 800 playing for Pitt.

Not sure why everyone thinks we upgraded the weapons around Tanne. Running game and O line are worse and WRs are about the same or worse, actually. Fasano and Bess gone. Replacements equal to them at best.

Tanne still does not have a good WR corps.

Use your eyes. Think for yourself. Stop being sheeple who know only what the media tells you.

Tanne still does not have a good WR corps.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hartline had 9 catches and Gibson had 7 because Wallace had the Brown's best corner on him along with safety help. And Hartline was OPEN as opposed to last year wen he was covered tight as a drum by the other team's best corner along with safety help. You'd have to be an idiot not to see already the difference Wallace has made.
Someone said that Wallace asked to be traded. He's a jackass without a doubt.
Wallace does make a huge difference it is only a matter of time before they get the ball to him, what really hurt was the lack of the running game and the blocking for the running game when we get this going we will be able to go deep to Wallace. Which i think we will it was only one game and the first game of the season, having said this I wish we would have kept Bush!!!!
Bo Jackson @3:21
You're about 4 months late dude.
I exposed the production of the players we lost to the players we gained 4 months ago.
I posted the results of my investigation in here and on ESPN over and over and over again.
Eventually all of the journalists at ESPN read my results and then started repeating the same thing.
All I see are stats, stats, stats being thrown about. You have to look at the whole body of work. Hartline and Gibson were wide open because of Wallace. Cleveland played a wimpy 2 deep zone the whole game - that is the effect Wallace can have. His catches will come.
Our team has holes, that is true. But the AFC East is wide open. We have as good a chance as anyone to win our division.
Bush touched the ball over 200 times, Wallace touched the ball about 70 times.
one ime at a charity golf event in Dothan Alabama, I spit in bo jacksons cheeseburger.......ROLL TIDE
I EXPOSED THE FRAUD LAST WEEK IN FANTASY FOOTBALL.....YUP SURE DID
Check 1,2,3
WHY ARENT THE POSTS...POSTING???
A FRAUD WAS EXPOSED IN FANTASY FOOTBALL LAST WEEK....
Bush touched the ball 200+ times, Wallace touched the ball about 70.
How is Not having Bush hurt us?
Bush is already hurt. He won't play all 16.
AGREED ^^^^
And agreed with Fraud. We already explained this about 4 months ago.
You compare WRs to WRs. Not WRs to RBs.
Armando check the Moderator.
We are having all our post deleted.
Dashi out til further notice.
Please don't confuse me(Jj) with JJ...
I was against acquiring Wallace from the beginning, but it seems he opened things up for the other receivers. Let's hope he can keep his inner diva in check and put the team first. Gibson is a definite upgrade over Bess, despite his occasional drops; Bess is slow and never gains YAC. He immediately falls down after catching the ball. Gibson is more of a threat. I do wish they had a better red zone / jump ball receiver, but we'll see how things go. Sims should get the nod, IMO.
Daytona/YG/Love faking must have been banned, or he fell down his mother's basement stairs. Peace in the blog.
THIS IS SOME BULL SHITE
I'm laughing at the ridiculous comments re: Wallace and his salary--gents, is Megatron worth the 850 million they're paying him? Is his contract a "good value"?--he'd have to have 25 catches and 6 TDs/game to equate to that contract--how about Fitzgerald....is he really earning, and "worth", the 675 million they're paying him?--geez, how many catches does he need to make that contract look reasonable?--maybe 400 for the season?--can Mario Williams ever get enough sacks to warrant the 410 mill they're paying him?--c'mon, ALL these guys are overpaid, many other players are too....add Wallace to the list, but so what?--stars make alot of money, few are truly worth it in the big picture.....thats just the playing field.
Bo Jackson, Bush will be injured soon, his durability is always the question not his talents.
Where is YG? Sid thy finally hoof him off the blog? Awesome if thats the case. Haven't sen him on here in a couple of days.
I think he's laying low Craig.
Blog under severe "attack". Fascinating.
I've had two posts disappear.
What you don't realize is that we are all ready to go along with everybody else. Check Israel.
Can someone please confirm that Mark Sanchez is not a girl? I saw him on the sideline wearing a hair ribbon like my 5 year old daughter wears. zlozlzlzozlozozzz
Dashi, you child, amount of touches is not a knock against what I'm saying. Getting more touches is in itself a useful skill, and earned, of course. It means a player is useful enough to get 200 touches. Wallace got only 50 touches, actually, because he's not useful out of the backfield and managed to get only 50 receptions for 800 yards. Very very pedestrian numbers. In 6 years he's had only 2 1,000 yard seasons and his best year is not as good as Harline last year I will give you at least slightly more TDs.
Dudes I'm not going to do your work for you. Go to www.nfl.com and you can see career stats for any player quite easily.
There is no reason to think Wallace was going to be some great addition. He's good, true, but nowhere near elite in this league. Not worth $60M and certainly is strange that Mando, who is usually sure footed and is a professional, got so worked up over him.
Tanne has shown us that he is good. He will continue to struggle this year because of no protection, no running game, and a very very mediocre WR corps, and what will then happen is the idiots will blame Tanne for everything.
Where are all these new "weapons" given to Tanne now? Where? Last I checked, the spent dollars don't go run on the field and catch passes.
In the 5 impact positions (2 WRs, 2RBs, 1 TE or 3 WRs plus 2 RBs...etc) there is not one elite player to catch Tanne's passes nor anyone even close to top 30 at his position at any position.
Can we please stop calling Tennehill, Tanny? It reminds me of Tranny and well...lets just say that brings back a painful experience. It was late, dark and I was drunk. Ahhhh!
Go Phins!
78, I assume by your comment about the guy with his million aliases, you mean me? LOL
I'm still here w/no aliases. Go figure, right?
Please understand that more than 1 person can dislike some of you ppl. I don't know what it will take for some of you to get it through you heads.
I won't hold my breath for an apology!
Phins 23 Colts 20!
Hartline had 9 catches and Gibson had 7 because Wallace had the Brown's best corner on him along with safety help. Finally a post by someone who knows what the hell he is talking about.
So Craig, you're off to a pretty good start. Like 15 points for the Pats d. Not bad my man. They should have had 28 though the way Geno played. Does anyone NOT believe we would murder either of these scrubs if we played them in Sept? See what I'm saying about the NFL? They don't want Miami to win the AFC East.
Oh, just checked Craig, you didn't have their d (another league) you had Brady/Edelman.
Tannehill least accurate under pressure?
Hmm. I counted only 1 INT. Forgetting other week 1 QBs (cough, cough Gabbert), Weeden alone had way more INTs under pressure. Unless we're counting an INT as accurate, then I'd rather have a ball spray way wide and out of play, then come close but get picked.
I'm not even a Tannehill fan or apologist, but that data about under-pressure accuracy is.. well, inaccurate IMHO.
FINAL
Dolphins - 10
Colts - 34
Call this preduction LUCK.
Posted by: JS_in_LA | September 13, 2013 at 05:06 PM
I think what that means is that the other QBs just sucked bad whether they were under pressure or not.
It sounds like more blind favoritism for the other 2nd yr QBs and negativity from the media about the Dolphins.
We all started more or less around there, so, it is very fitting that we end All around there.
JS, you see those losers last night. Don't listen to PFF sorry stats, they are meaningless. The kid is a winner, that's the only stat that matters.
Folks, I've asked that multiple posters be banned in recent days for reasons such as:
Using an imposter of me and using inappropriate language.
Abusive or obscene posts.
And failing to change an offensive user name after I asked ... nicely.
I hate to lose good people on the blog. I hate that some folks feel the need to ruin the experience for others because they think it's funny. But we reached a critical mass in the amount of complaints and we're going to try to make this a fun experience for as many people as possible.
Also,
You guys seem to generally like the PFF material ... until their metrics says something you don't like. No one player wins ALL the time. Just sayin'.
How does that stat of Tannehill hold any water as the least accurate QB under pressure? I know of several players that had more INTS and completed less than 50% of their passes.
I'm just curious how that conclusion was reached.
Mando, my point is a general one about stats (they don't tell the whole story). Same as in politics. It's not just PFF stats I distrust. It's all stats that try to tell me not to believe my lying eyes. You saw the game live. Are you telling me Tannehill didn't look effective last week? Even compared to Brady yesterday? Can he grow? Of course. But he sealed the win with that 4th qtr drive. What more can we ask of our 2nd year QB than to lead the team to a road win?
Sal do you think it is possible that Wallace was not open to catch a ball and tanny hit hartline and Gibson because they were open.and do you think that maybe philbin saying that tanny threw the ball in the right places has more merit than your opinion,that Wallace should have been targeted 100 times.look at your stat book and I guarantee you will find more than a few times the great dan the man only threw to duper 5 times in a game or only 5 throws to fryer.wallace will get his catches,unless he becomes a marshall.if that happens philbin will send his arse to buffalo and you can go with him.
So, we are supposed to like PFF because you are using it now? I wrote, statistics make me zzzzzz, and it wasn't published. So, ban me. Statistics make me zzzzzz. Be selective in the People that shear.
...DC..Good point. Stats are often over-rated. I thought Tannehill was good when he needed to be. I thought he was good on third down. I thought he was good in the fourth quarter. And in our only redzone trip. Good enough to get us in the endzone. We were beaten in the first half. We made adjustments in the second half(passing game)...and bossed the game.
Like you said..Can he improve? Of course he can. I don't think anyone is claiming this was Tannehills masterpiece painting.
