Latest from Dolphins camp on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dolphins are back at work this rainy South Florida afternoon and here's the latest:

Defensive tackle Paul Soliai (knee) and safety Chris Clemons (injury not reported) are not practicing today. Soliai, as you know, left the Indianapolis game on Sunday and had an MRI Monday. The results of that MRI are unknown but it is not believed Soliai is going to miss significant time.

The cornerback situation for the Dolphins is improving somewhat in that Jamar Taylor (groin/hernia) returned to practice today at least on a limited basis. Will Davis (toe) and Dimitri Patterson (groin), both of whom missed Sunday's game at Indy, also are practicing at least on a limited basis.

The Falcons, meanwhile, are looking more and more beatable as news of their injury status leaks out drop by drop.

NFL Network reported this morning that running back Steven Jackson is out two to four weeks with a thigh injury. This on the heels of the team placing linebacker Sean Weatherspoon on injured resevere with a designation to return later this season. He can return in Week 11 the earliest per NFL rules.

We already knew that Falcons defensive lineman Kroy Biermann is out for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

With Jackson out, the Falcons may have to search outside for a running back (Michael Turner?) while also giving more work to Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling. Losing Weatherspoon is a big deal for the Falcons as he's both a fine player in pass coverage and has pass rush ability as well.

The Falcons answer for Weatherspoon's void? Likely Joplo Bartu -- a rookie.

From a bookkeeping standpoint, the Dolphins cut quarterback Austin Davis and cornerback Devin Smith from the practice squad and added defensive tackle Isaako Aauitui and defensive tackle Al Lapuaho to the unit.

The signings of Aauitui and Lapuaho suggest the Dolphins are wary of the Soliai injury.

ima where did anyone say bill oreily was dumb?

so with soliai out awhile they may try and run on us more. lets go starks!

IMAWriterr,

Your right, we need to grind time off the clock and keep both our defense and Matty Ice off the field. I don't want us to get into a pattern of riding THills arm all the time, we must have better balance and this will become more important as the year wares on. If there is one thing that always sticks in my head it's the Marino years of no run game, made us so predictable for defenses.

Man, I keep day dreaming of AP being traded to us for Solai, Delvin, D. Thomas, 2nd, 3rd and 4th draft choices. Can you image that trade, would ROCK the NFL!

It's possible, Viking have a history of making silly trades.

Starks thinks Solai won't start? Huuuum

Coyle is so intelligent and funny. He and Philbin just click, don't they?

Sherman seems very unemotional. People who don't get excited about what they do seem to take it for granted, in my opinion.

madfin quit drinking

dusty,

That's what wifey has said! I keep calling her Adrain Petterson from last year's DirecTV commercial when she was wearing a towel on her head this morning. I call her AP every time I see wearing it...pisses her off, lol.

dustyb, well, it did sound like a disparaging remark concerning someone (O'Reilly) who NEVER posts to this blog.
Apologies for being a bit sensitive, but after the PC nature of this latest event in DC, I'm just not ready to hear the liberal company line. The Navy KNEW this guy was nuts, had been arrested twice, once for discharging a firearm in his room. Played a GI JOE sty;e ivdeo game 16 hours a day, and they're blaming it on a GUN?
Thus, your jab at at O'Reilly, who is the MOST even handed person running a show on FOX just seemed disingenuous at best, uninformed at worse.
However, CraigM may have resented the implication he and O'Reilly are somehow of one mind. LOL

Again, hopefully, bygones.

I'm finding a couple of things both interesting and, considering where we've come from last year, remarkable. Of course, this is all subject to change. But.....

NBC ranking have us going up 9 places from last week. The Fox people have us up 12. And CBS has us up ten spots on their rankings.

Also I'm finding that not only, it appears, we have a pretty decent football team but LUCK seems to be going our way as regards the injuries to the Falcons. Another interesting fact has us a small favorite, but still the favorite, against a playoff team from last year that happens to have a good and experienced QB.

I'm starting to feel that...... Naaa! I won't say it!

But Shelby and Jordan need to see more plays.

How about Derrick Shelby becoming a really good rotation player after going undrafted? Wow!!! Love watching him play

Fake...agree. But I did make a mistake in the previous post....putting the word LUCK in the same sentence when describing the 'PHINS. We haven't seen any for a long time. Now we need to take advantage of it!

They do need to.play Shelby a bit more, just keep him, Grimes and Vernon from covering the opposing TE'S. Those three guys have given up the three biggest plays to TE's the last two weeks. Other than those three big plays (over 20 yds) given up by those three guys our LBs & S's have held opposing TEs to like an 8yd avg. I see Miami really handling the Falcons on Sunday especially due to the Heat, grass and outside stadium. Our defensive speed will more than cover their speed on grass. Wallace and Clay are gonna blow their DBs away all day on that grass field. I look for some really big plays from our Offense against their depleted defense and youth.

Jeff Darlington was just reporting on the NFL network that Wallace and Philbin had a sit down and discussed his role after he was not happy after the Cleveland game. Wallace wants the ball more, apparently Philbin listened but used him in ways he has never been used. Darlington reported Wallace said he running routes he never has ran and feels more productive. Also gave props to the other receivers, such as Hartline, etc.

This nugget tells you that Philbin clearly has the pluse of his players and team, is a very smart HC. Sounds like Wallace enjoys the new WCO, very different then what he was used to at Pitt.

I'm hoping that the media continue to ignore and diss us at least until we get through our first five games against really tough teams.

Excellent offense. Improved ST especially with Sturgis consistently able to make very long field goals. Improved QB and massively improved passing game. Work to do on our OL, TE and especially our running game but the problem there is not actually a problem of talent with the players - our starting talent is good enough - it is really a question of getting young players all playing together coherently as a team, a coaching challenge.

There is no doubt that Ireland did his job massively upgrading our talent and Ross did his job paying for it. Coyle is clearly doing his job on defense. The verdict is not completely in on Philbin and Coyle - they have a young offense packed with talent playing fairly well but not playing together. If they bring them up to speed the Dolphins could become dominant - not just be in the game - but a fearsome competitor.

Go Phins!!!!

Lets go fins! Where are all the people who called me an idiot for predicting that the fins would be ok this year and win 10 games!? I remember getting bashed after the HOF game where the starters barely played.lol

Where's that guy that used the handle "tommy is an idiot" for telling everyone to relax and not commit suicide after the first preseasin game? lol

Why were our corners giving the Colts receivers a 10 YARD CUSHION? ?

Where are all the people who were saying Mike Wallace should shut up and be happy
with just 1 catch?? Clearly that was a bad idea...

Money + zanax = happiness

true FinLord...esp coby fleener!

Tommy, we can't give Julio that 10 yard cushion.

Hopefully Patterson plays...

Grimes gives up plays but he makes up for it...

I think people should lighten up on Oliver Vernon.

He's off to a slow start for sure. But he's been credited with half a sack already. You have to remember, as a ROOKIE he tallied 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and blocked 2 field goal tries in LIMITED Action. He showed a lot of potential as a ROOKIE, so in my book that means he deserves a little patience.

People are acting spoiled I think, because our Defensive Line is so Good and Deep. The undrafted Wake blows up the CFL and doesn't miss a beat coming to the NFL.

Well......actually, there was a BUMP in the road. Two bumps on a log in the dual dumbshyts SpOranus and Nolan who didn't want to play Wake right away. Talk about a couple of idiots.

Anyways, I digress. Then we have the un-drafted Shelby. Shelby, like Vernon is still developing, but he's the complete package. He has 2 sacks and two forced fumbles already this season and that's on extremely limited playing time. He's on par for a Monster Season, Especially since he's earning more and more playing time,.

Then we have Dion Jordan. I believe he's a Star in the making. The only things that will hold him back is how quickly he learns and how quickly the Coaches turn him loose. He hasn't had a breakout game obviously, but going up against Tackles like Joe Thomas seemed like just another game. In other words, I think he'll transition very quickly.

Back to Vernon, don't be spoiled. He's developing rather nicely and we need that. Being objective, I believe:

1. There are quite a few teams out there that would be pleased with Vernon and the rate that he's coming along.

2. Wake is getting Long in tooth(Thank God he takes care of himself like he does. He's as good of a Health Nut as he is a DE).

Besides, you just never know how things will work out. Quality Defensive Ends are a Hot Commodity. Second only to QB's in terms of trade value. Plus, the old saying is **TRUE**. You can NEVER have enough Good Pass Rushers!

I also can't wait for our Rookie Corner's to get healthy.

Taylor and Davis EACH are better than Carroll and Wilson COMBINED! They're inexperienced, but better than Patterson as well.

As good as the Front 7 are, the back end is going to "Blow Up" when these two get some playing time behind them.

Seriously, these two are going to be as big of a boost as Ellerbe and Wheeler were to our LB's. Bigger than Shelby and Jordan too our D-Line.

These two guys are going to put us over the top. This defense is going to be INSANE!

the phins willmake the playoffs this here year.

Making the playoffs is very doable, but we have to win 1 in the playoffs. Then, next year, LOOK OUT!

Oh boy!
I see a bunch of people with the ugly reality that they have no ground to criticize the Dolphins...2-0 baby!!!

Lets enjoy it! This is Ireland's team and better things are about to come...

Go Fins! Win and win some more!!!

Im glad Miami still isn't getting ant respect from the Gurus in the league. Let them stay under the radar. I don't want this team getting cocky. The wildcat got them alot of attention when thet pounced N.E. That didn't last long.

Realistically, we need 1 out of these next 3 games. Going into the bye 3-2 would exceed anybody's expectations for our first five games (as tough as they are). Now, we pick up 2 out of the next three, and u can start to think about making the playoffs as the AFC east champs, not the 5th or 6th wildcard team (which i think ultimately, we will be).

Soilai injury may or may not be serious, we all know by now that nothing leaks out of this organization who knows maybe Soiliai already had it scoped
But I hope not but this team has great depth and I like Starks at NT because of pass rush ability and Ryan is a statue
Bring on all the best rushers and we got this win, plus Falcons have the same problem we have they can't run the ball, just rest Soliai and start starks...3-0 WOW!!

As far as being under the radar, I believe that we are starting to get attention. Earlier today we jumped up between 9-12 positions on three different rankings.

Also on the NFL Network Charley Casserley (spelling?) gave high marks to T-hill. Saying the player he saw last year bears no resemblance to the player he sees this year. Big jump in accuracy and field awareness.

Another on the same network called for us to win the AFC East!......So we're getting noticed and for once getting noticed for the right reasons!

wow, 3 weeks in a row some of the best players of our opponents are out....

luck does play a big roll in the NFL. maybe ours has finally turned for the good....

ESPN still downs us...

on Friday tre wingnut said Wallace would be targeted 15 times against the Colts but have only 3 receptions... what a dick....

they all chuckled and took the Colts to beat Miami....

This schedule may or may not be tough. With all the parity and turnover with teams, it's hard to say.

I do know that I like the way it has unfolded. Especially if we stun the Football World and knock off the Falcons. Either way, the first 3 seems like a perfect work up for an up and coming team.

Cleveland first. Though improved, their at the beginning of a rebuild themselves. So it promised to be a good "tune-up" game. Being that we won, it was a great test in that they have a STOUT Front 7(as evidenced by us and the Ravens troubles playing against them).

Then the Colts! A giant test for our Defense in general and particularly our secondary.

Now Matty Ice and the High Powered Falcon's Offense. The Defense might not be top 5, but they kept them in enough games for Matty to lead them to the playoffs.

It's exciting because we're winning obviously. But also because there's just so many ways to look at it. But now, RIGHT NOW, in 3 words:

Pivotal!

PiVoTal!

And.......

PIVOTAL!

Winning the first two on the road, one being against a marginal playoff team is good. But it still allows the media and Talking Heads to ignore us as usual(and they are. In a sickeningly flagrant way). We open up with a two game win streak ON THE ROAD and Luck gets all the highlights. If it wasn't for Wallace's TD, Tannehill wouldn't have gotten any air time. Just sick!

If we lose, we won't even get any lip service. The Browns are the Browns, Luck had an off day and Matty Ice will have put the uppity Dolphins back in their place.

But, if we open at home with a win and extend our streak to 3, including two playoff teams that feature Talking Head favorites Luck and Ryan, EVERYTHING CHANGES! All will be **FORCED** to sit up and pay attention. Even the most rabid anti-Miami Pundits will HAVE TO bite down hard and Swallow!

They keep pretending like they can't hear us knocking, FINE. We're just going to kick the God Damn door DOWN!!!!

Pivotal! PiVoTaL! PIVOTAL!!!!

THIS IS A BIG GAME BUT A GAME WE CAN WIN BUT THE KEYS TO THE GAME IS WIN THE TURNOVER BATTLE,AND PRESSURE RYAN(NEED 5-6 SACKS). THE FALCONS ARE BANGED UP SO BE VERY"PHYSICAL" WITH THEM AND PUT THE BALL IN THE ENDZONE AND DOLPHINS WIN EASY 34-17..NOW TO DO ALL OF THAT WILL NOT BE EASY BUT ON DEFENSE IF YOU CONTAIN JONES THAN THAT IS THE KEY STAT BECAUSE RODDY WHITE IS HURTING AND REALLY WILL BE A NON-FACTOR. THE FALCONS OL IS ALSO NOT AS GOOD AS PREVIOUS YEARS BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IF WE DO NOT PLAY "DOLPHIN FOOTBALL" WE WIN ANY WAY NO THAT'S NOT THE CASE SOME TIMES GOOD TEAMS WIN DESPITE PLAYING UGLY FOOTBALL LOOK AT NE(LUCKY BASTARDS) THIS IS THE HOME OPENER AND IF WE WANT OUR FANS BACK THEN WE NEED THIS GAME,,F..K THE MEDIA KEEP WINNING AND GUESS WHO'S SHIP THEY WILL JUMP ON.
