Watkins responds to Roseman comments

Danny Watkins seems like a good guy. Whether he's a good player, we shall see eventually.

I know this, the Dolphins' time with Josh Samuda was played out. Samuda got a very good chance to win a starting job this preseason. It was probably a better chance than he deserved because one player (John Jerry) got hurt and another player (Lance Louis) was fighting to come back from knee surgery. Samuda couldn't take advantage of the opportunity.

And so in steps Watkins, a former first round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, who was cut from that team a couple of days ago after only two seasons with the club. It seems like a good move.

But there are questions.

If you read what Eagles GM Howard Roseman said about Watkins in the last post you know it's quite an indictment when an NFL GM says a player has shown little toughness.

I asked Watkins his thoughts about Roseman's comment.

"I got to Philadelphia and it was just a rough go from the get-go," Watkins said. "I felt like it just got broken down to bones and never got built back. It was more a mental thing. I was very disappointing to myself that it never panned out the way it could. Because I know I can play physical and tough football but it just never ... I think it was more a mental aspect than anything.

"These last three years have been such a whirlwind. it was great opportunity to play in the NFL. My college career was great, I love Baylor and what they did for me there. Looking back, six years ago if you had told me I'd be in the position I am today, I would have laughed at you. I'm very fortunate and very blessed to be where I am today."

Watkins picked the Dolphins over another NFL team, he said. He declined to specify what team. I asked him if he believes this is his last chance to find an NFL home.

"I'm very excited to be here and I know Miami has a, well the past history with the players here" Watkins said. "So this is huge for me. Like I said, it's the most exciting thing that's happened to me and I'm going to take full advantage of the opportunity and make the best of it."

The Dolphins asked Watkins to work at snapping the football some on Monday. Is he a viable backup center?

It doesn't sound like it right away.

"I was a tackle in college. and guard in the NFL," he said.

Watkins said he's comfortable playing either left or right guard.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin declined to say who the backup center is now that Samuda is gone. He cited competitive reasons for declining to answer.

So in summary, the team that scores the most points wins right?

Did you figure that out for yourself or did someone tell you?

Oh yeah, we rush for less than 100yds as an offense Sunday, we definitely lose.

This means Tannehill throws at least 45 times. Even if he's 29-45 350yds, it will accumulate to only 1 td 2 ints and 64% passing.

Meaning his QBR Sunday will be 77.083. You heard it here 1st...............

Kris, tell me again how I hate the truth because you think I'm YG.

Keep it going clown! You're on a roll today!

Posted by: For all that is holy | September 03, 2013 at 03:31 PM

Here's the thing and I've already explained this. You must have missed it. Anyone behaving in the manner that you did today is and will always be labeled ,,,,A YG. You may not be the same person but you might as well be.

The conversations were going well, everyone was getting along, and you started disrespecting everyone. That's what an A-hole does right?

Who gives a f%$k who you are? It doesn't matter because you're just another dou%$bag and your sole purpose in here is to start internet fights with strangers. We know who you are, you're an inconsiderate insufferable jerk off who enjoys getting under the skin of others in a sports blog. Do we need to know anything else? Smh

I can see how being wrong most of the time can get on peoples nerves.

(And this Einstein calls "Others" Dopes-LOL)

Oops, did I already post this.........?

odinseye I was really surprised he admitted how often he was wrong as well. And then the revelation that everyone hates him. I didn't know he was so self aware.

Anyway how do you like his new trick? Write a post with one computer but don't press the post button. Use a tablet or other device to write another post, then press both buttons at once so they show up at the same time. AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGG what a trick. Make sure one of those posts is screaming to Armando to prove he's not the same guy (knowing Armando will NEVER answer) and then act like you won some kind of battle.

This fooking tool is too much. Lmao later guys.

Sounds like Watkins is, "Just happy to be in the NFL." I didn't hear him refuting the Igg's GM's comments that he is not tough. I guess if he is just happy to be where he is at, he will never get any better. Sounds like a bust to me.

WALK!

Are you talking to ME! No Way PUNK!

Dhant da Dadda - Dhant da Dadda - Dhant da Dadda.......

while i could care less about personal wars on here, medium and median are not the same thing!!! that's like saying an estimate is the same as a measurement.

I still don't get Samuda?

He came in and played pretty good as a rookie. Then, when given "The Golden Opportunity" this year, he comes out an lays an egg all over the Pre Season.

Having said that, I don't believe they cut Samuda and held on to Don Jones or Will Yeatman.

I know OT are highly valued, but as far as I can tell Yeatman isn't a Tight End nor an Offensive Tackle.

What the Fvck gives with Yeatman? I think this is his 3rd season, he still makes the roster, yet he hasn't ever contributed in any meaningful way.

And PLEASE don't tell me he's going to be our Back Up ANYTHING.

What a terrible written redition of Panteras Walk. I thought you were a musician, that's not even close!

KingShula responds to Salguero comments

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin declined to say who the backup center is now that Samuda is gone. He cited competitive reasons for declining to answer.

Dude the identity of the backup center was not important.

This is Yeatmans sophmore season as a T in the NFL, just because you gushed all over samuda doesn't mean he should stick around. But we know why you don't get it.......gushing.

As bad as it might sound, if I'm Norv Turner I would try forcing Miami into playing their Nickle defense and go after Nolan Carroll.

Turner won't want to face our Base Run D all game. So If I were he, I'm sending out my 3-wide packages and game planning/designing plays to get Carroll in one on one situations and hitting the back shoulder throws on him.

Even as Carroll seemed to improve, he still never gets his head around. The trend continued all Pre Season, so I'm not expecting any big changes.

Turner will try to Bull Dog us with Richardson and his revamped O-Line. From there, he'll look to exploit Patterson and Carroll.

Hopefully Wake, Vernon and Jordan put a big crimp in this plan. If they can force Weeden to throw to early on the back shoulder throws, they become easy to jump!

Damn sick mo fo to be going back 2 years to get a lick in on someone.

This is Yeatmans sophmore season as a T in the NFL, just because you gushed all over samuda doesn't mean he should stick around. But we know why you don't get it.......gushing.

We get it, we get it. You think Yeatman is headed to the Hall Of Fame(I just wish he could actually, you know, Play a position.......ANY Position).

And you like to make musical critiques based on how someone types on a sports blog. OK then.........

(Snicker, snick......Oh Broder)

In regards to Kris' mouse above........

There's only ONE RETARD in this universe that dumpster dives back into the archives of Dolphins In Depth(This Tard is going back TWO FREAKING YEARS!).

You Hack, you were polluting the blog back then and it was bad enough. Now you're reposting your garbage from TWO FREAKING YEAR AGO-ROTFLMFAO!

Poll of the Day:

Whose the only idiot here that's idiotic enough to go back TWO FREAKING YEARS in the archives and repost his own Bullshyt........?

A. Dying Bird

B. Yesterday Gone

C. The Guy that dreams of getting 17 up his Wah-Zoo.

Odinseye Norv Turner will be looking over his back shoulder if he is not accompanied by a body guard after the Dolphins win the game. The drunken dogpouders will be looking to get involved in Norv's life before heading back to their favorite watering hole.

Hey this guy might be good. He isn't starting.

I didn't know I could come here and get financial advice. Wow. I am so impressed with the knowledge you guys have.

Odinseye after the game the dogpounders will probably visit the closest dope hole before they run outta beer.

Odinseye One thing Norv can be happy about after they lose is that with the new CLEAR BAG RULE the number of dogpounders getting projectiles and other arsenal into the stadium will decrease.

For those who still don't know who Fernando Velasco is..
One of the best players to be handed a pink slip on Saturday was Fernando Velasco, who started every game at center for the Tennessee Titans last season.

Velasco emerged as the best player on the Titans’ interior offensive line last season. Pro Football Focus (subscription required) graded him as the NFL’s 12th-best center in 2012.

Velasco became the victim of an effort to completely overhaul the interior offensive line in Tennessee. While he could have been a solid centerpiece between new guard additions Andy Levitre and Chance Warmack, the Titans signaled a change in the middle as well when they signed veteran free agent Robert Turner and selected Brian Schwenke in the fourth round of this year’s draft.
--------------------
Now you know WHY he was released. Munchak is in the last year of HIS contract, is a former O-Line coach, and thinks that's hi9s problem, not Jake Locker or a poor secondary.

Letting Samuda go for Watkins seems pretty shaky to me. Samuda was a decent back up Center and OK backup Guard. Watkins has only had success playing football at Baylor. He was old there and beat up on kids who were a few years younger than him. He gets drafted in the First Round and fails at the NFL level. Now Miami moves for him and lets Samuda go? I just don't see this playing out well for Miami.

Jerry and Watkins? Scary things shaping up at RG for Miami. I just assume see Garner starting at this point.

King Shula(nice name),

I agree, The Dog Pounders are going to need a Dope House to ease the PAIN!

As long as we don't give Cleveland anything cheap early on, we'll play **OUR GAME** and Handle them "Soundly".

Nothing I've seen or heard about the Browns makes me think we won't handle them. Nothing cheap early and stick to our own game plan. It equals 1-0.

jpao,

As I said earlier and like you expanded on, I don't get it.

OK, fine, Yeatman gets yet ANOTHER pass. Great, so be it.

But I believe we kept 11 defensive backs. I think we could have made room by letting Don Jones go. We would still have Reshad Jones, Clemons, McCray and then even Jimmy Wilson in an emergency.

With problems and the injuries along the O-Line, I think it would have been far more prudent to have signed Watkins and kept Samuda. If nothing else, Samuda proved he could be an OK back up Center.

Sure I expected more from Samuda. But I didn't think he deserved to be cut while we kept guys like Yeatman, Don Jones and Jimmy Wilson.

The signing of another O-Lineman aside, I think this was the wrong move. But that's just my opinion.

So how does that foot taste idiot?

If worse comes to worse, remember that Incognito played center before, I believe the last few games the year before we got Pouncey. If I remember correctly, he played better there than at G and some pundits were saying to move him to C.
Getting back to teacher's salaries, if I only knew back then what I know now. 70k a year when fully tenured, can't be fired for bad performance, only work 185 days a year, work less that 40 hours a week typically. Cadillac health insurance plan. Retire at 55 with full pension that is 75% of your pay the last 3 years averaged out (not kidding). This is Mass of course, can't speak for other states. There are some retired teachers on my street. They all live in $300k houses. Where I live, that is quite the freakin house.

odinseye, Thank you for being positive and seeing the browns for what they are. Norv Turner will call the usual game he cals and plays into Miami's strengths. I agree the Phins will win. I am so tired of all these "Tossers" on here saying the Dolphins suck, we are gling to lose....REALLY...support your team or get the F off this site. As a rebuilding team, the Phins have advanced this process and we be a very good team. The defense will keep us in games and the offense will improve. We only missed the playoff by a cpule games last year. THank you for your POSITIVE outlook! True Fan!!

Run Ricky Run

And BTW, we WILL beat the Browns. Easily.

Down to business, Ireland spent 3 draft picks at tight end over three years and he still has to dip into the FA Tight End pool this winter to try and solve the problem.
And here we are at the eve of the 2013 season and we’re scratching our heads over what to do at TE.
Next, neither of our top 2 draft picks have gotten on the field due to injuries that Ireland should have known all about and when those players would actually be ready to play before he drafted them.

I will stop the rag job on Ireland when he starts showing respect for the fans and ticket buying public. A lot of people agree with me. Look at the empty seats.
Here’s a start: give me a weekly injury list, describe the injury and tell me when that player is going to return.

Browns beat the Dolphins...Dolphins start 1-4 or 0-5. Get real.

"I know the Dolphins have a...well a PAST history." Watkins said.

Shows you how pathetic the Dolphins currently are.

this is a crappy page. but tell me what you think about Dwyer joining the finz

That shows how incompetent Ireland is. YIKES!

Remarkable series of posts. What's even more remarkable is that I read all the way down the list. Have got to find a life!!!

Financial planning? What's dat?

Norv Turner sukkks, has always done so and will always do so.

If I were Sherman I would have a nice Tight End Screen. Get Pouncey, Cogs and Martin rumbling into the 2nd level with the 260 lb Sims toting the ball.

Well timed and designed screens like this can be Killer.

Since Sherman and Tannehill's arrival I have yet to see them execute any good screens. Not even to the RB's. This has to change. This is one of the best ways to get the ball to Miller out in space.

Tannehill has to learn how to sell the screens better. And learn to use a pump fake once in awhile while he's at it.

Make it happen Mike!

It is very probable , odin, that we have not seen all the O arsenal we might have. So, those plays you mention might not be out of the question. Still, I've never been in love with Sherman's play calling.

Tannehill has to learn how to sell the screens better. And learn to use a pump fake once in awhile while he's at it.

Tanny sure has a lot to learn for a 1st rd pick in his 2nd year.

Well, there are no more excuses for Tannehill. Just Saying'

Dan,

Who the fukk are you? There's not a team in the league who would give the fans that info. And you want the team to give ou all that? Yeah....OK.

As for drafting the TEs, something wrong with that? Have you looked at all the Highly drafted CBs that the Pats have had fail over the last few years? Should Bellichick be stoned to death?

Get off this 'entitlement' thing you have.

Isn't it funny how so many bloggers with no professional NFL experience believe they have advice and tips the players coaches haven't considered?

Tannehill needs to learn this. Philbin has to learn that. Sherman should do this, Coyle should do that.

Johnathan Dwyer, showed up at camp this year at 265 pounds, 36 pounds above his playing weight. Cut from the Steelers because coaches didn't think he took his job seriously enough. And yet there were still guys who argued that he was 'better than anything else we had on the team'.

Hilarious......

Two months back I was laughed at and ridiculed for saying no way they move Pouncey to guard and put Samuda at center.

Most of these posters are jokers that think they know everything. The read one preseason report from some bozo and jump right on the bandwagon.

You should not have to worry about 8 man fronts or 7 man fronts. You get an 8 man front, you throw the ball. You get a 7 man front, you try and run the ball. You don't necessarily have to be a Football genius to figure that out.

I asked, how do you not play your best center at center?

I asked, how do you replace your #1 pick, top 5 center with a UDFA that hasn't done jack?

They didn't care to answer, just laugh like hyenas.

I really thought Samuda would be a good backup Center. Apparently, that's all he is.
