Dolphins at Bills: Live blog plus inactives

Creeping closer to game time today and here's what's up:

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson is active for the first time since Week 2 against Indianapolis. He still is not starting. Nolan Carroll will continue to be the starter.

Middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (shoulder) is out today as expected. Jason Trusnik will start in his place.

The other inactives are Pat Devlin, Michael Gillislee, Josh Kaddu, Will Davis, Danny Watkins and Dallas Thomas.

If you haven't done so already, kindly catch up with my column today that should offer perspective on where the Dolphins are today despite the fact they haven't had a lot of success lately. It's good.

I don't see a lot of obvious changes or tweaks from the Dolphins other than, as I reported earlier this week, there should be quite a few screen passes today. At least that's the plan.

And as always on game day, there's a live blog. Join me inside the live blog.

Gillislee not active for any game. Is he a bust?

My only post today. Because Dashi isn't going to ruin his Dolphins watching by reading some Ignorant Heckler and his 2 Friends.

All I read the last 4 pages of the last blog was whining and complaining. A bunch of Girly men going back and forth. A Bunch of Hypocrites. Except Odin, Odin hit it right on the Head. And TK brought up some good points also. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS RINSE AND REPEAT. The First Page looked like the Last. Same Chit Different Day.

Mando you to, I would've expected some growth out of you at least. But it is still the same Doom and Gloom. By your own words Miami isn't even in the same class as the Pats. So what you said above is Fraudulent.

ON THE GAME (which is what really matters to Dashi)

I expect to see some growth from this team. I expect to see the Defense to play more like a Unit than a bunch of individuals. I expect that Sherman will only try and run his best Run plays since he knows most his O-line isn't athletically gifted. I also expect the carries to start being distributed more 70-30 in favor of L.Miller.

The key to this game is NO TURNOVERS on Offense. We need to get back to Dolphin Football. To bad most of you have a distorted version of what that is. But the Fins need to get back to playing Dolphin Ball. We do that and this game will be a nice blowout to watch.

And before I get some egregiously asinine post, What is Dolphin ball. I'm not going to go into that today. Plus, if you know how I describe what this offense likes to do and what this Offense doesn't like to run. You know what I mean by Dolphin Ball.

And to any of the posters who might feel offended by my first paragraph. I was only referring to the 3 headed Troll Monster we have on this blog. I meant no disrespect to anyone else.

Dashi how is it you've now posted twice your only post today? Are you a HypoKris?

And you're divulging the Plan, if that is indeed the case, that we will throw more screen passes? Brilliant.

If this team has improved at all, if it has any chance to make the playoffs, then they win today's game. Lose today, and that will only confirm we have no chance.

so we shall see what our marketing department disguised as a football team has in store for us today...

Sherman won't be allowed to use screen passes in this offense, that would be too efficient for the FO. gotta keep those players stats down lest we have to pay them more money LOL

why does it seem that most dolphin draft picks lately cant find the field. last year it was Egnew. This year its Thomas, davis, and gillisee. This team cant afford to keep wasting draft picks. To me this comes down to improper evaluation of college talent

Like to see a good old fashioned ass woopin today!!!

Go Fins!!!! Time to turn it around.

Maybe you should do your homework and study the other 31 teams over the last ten years. It is the same thing almost every season everywhere.

Is Tfumble active today eh?

Many of you live in a very tiny neighborhood called DolphinVille, and think everything we do is wrong and every other team does it better. Just like you constantly think other teams cast off garbage will suddenly be a star here.

You need to open your minds and your scope of knowledge.

It's probably more likely that this Coaching staff does not want to take chances with unproven Players. I don't blame them. We are a very immature Team at this moment.

No. This FO is not focused on football first. They are more focused on the marketing and the perception. There are football FO's a la Baltimore, Denver, Indy, etc and then there are marketing / corporate FO's. Miami is unfortunately more of the latter than the former currently otherwise we would still have Bush and Marshall on offense. Remember, in the current Dolphins Org chart, the entire coaching staff reports through the GM.

hey fudd. i do my homework just fine thanks. Yeah of course all 31 other teams encounter the same results with draft picks but my point is miami cant keep missing on so many high picks. egnew, thomas, davis all 3rd rd picks. not to mention all the wasted second rd picks over the years. if thomas cant even make it as a backup for our horrid oline then whats that say about him?

ellerbes been the bust so far

yeah i think most everyone kinew thomas was garbage right when miami took him. guy sucked in college

i do my homework just fine thanks.

Just fine? Maybe by Florida school standards. Plenty of picks from even the higher rounds don't work out. No team can avoid it. The draft is a crap shoot.

Some kind of Coach Bum Phillips was. Gave Shula fits.

Bum never won jack even with a good team. Good guy, but the media likes to make everyone who dies suddenly a super star.

You cannot judge draft picks based on their first year. You have to develop young players. Final judgment on draft picks usually comes after year 3. Ireland good or great draft picks:

Tannehill (franchise QB), Jake Long (multiple pro-bowls) Pouncey (stud Center), Brian Hartline (pro bowl last year), Clarles Clay (6th round on pace for 1000 yards), Reshad Jones (5th round pro-bowl caliber safety), Jared Odric (beast at DT), Dion Jordan (looks like he will be special). Other solid picks Misi, Carrol, Clemmons, Vontae Davis, Sean Smith.

I think that Ireland has done a real good job drafting. The coaches have to develop players and sometimes that takes a while and they end up developing with other teams. The jury will be out in the next couple of years on Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, Dallas Thomas, Lamar Miller, Jonathan Martin, Guillesly, Don Jones, and Jelani Jenkins. You have to have patience with rookies but we are headed in the right direction. Kudos to Ireland!

Ok fudd. Not looking to get into a draft debate, but the proof is out there. This team since 2000 and even more recent has been horrid in rounds two and three. Im not talking just busts but guys who cant even find the field on sunday. Need i remind eveyone of the likes of eddie moore, and pat white. Many more out there but trying to forget the ugliness of them

100% correct! Andre Ellington was a 6th and he's getting lots of carries for the Cards. Gilleslee cant suit up with our putrid running game? WTF?

You cant keep blowing drafts and expect to be good. Look at this years draft - freakin terrible. A part time player at 3 overall, no one else even sees the field except for our kicker (which was a good pick). Just terrible.

I really don't want to get into our list of questionable draft picks.

I think we are all aware that our GM sucks. We are just hoping that his offseason haul and his recent picks have improved.

Come to think of it, his free agent moves were questionable too. Dropping Long, Bush, Burnett,Dansby and adding Clabo,Ellerbe, and Wheeler.

Still...Soliai,Starks,Wallace,Grimes,Pouncey,Wake,Hartline,Gibson and I believe Tanny and Miller are all solid players. It just takes some coaching.

I don't seal that, Teo, but Bum and Buddy Teams always were tough opponents.

In what decade do we get a franchise QB?

Strictly looking at the draft takes too narrow a view of the organization... when you compare the org strutures of winning franchises to the Dolphins it is readily apparent where the focus lies. The selection of Tom Garfinkel reeks of corporatocracy and a focus on the marketing and ticket sales to the detriment of the product on the field. For example, the GM for the Colts answers to the ownership directly. The Colts COO has little input into what happens on the field where the actual football decisions are concerned. The Ravens operate in a similar fashion. The Dolphins org structure is old school corporatism, plain and simple and that has a measurable effect on the product they field year over year. The Dolphins are entirely marketing driven, but MBA's don't typically come from a football background, hence the continued struggles when facing teams that put football first.

couldnt agree more veteran fan. Of course you cant hit on every player you draft but the dolphins track record has been just awful.

Odrick Misi Vontae Smith Reshard Jones Clemons Dion Jordan Tannehill Martin Soliai Pouncey, Long, Miller, Clay, Dion Simms...

I guess none of those ever got on the field.

You guys are warped negative.

The new logo is disgusting. Looks like a whale. I just can't get into it and it is ruining the Dolphins experience that I have enjoyed since 1970.

Many of you need a basic course in Statistics 101, and then take a close look at all the other teams.

You'd be surprised.

But, I don't expect any of you to do any real research or anything that might prevent you from whining and complaining, your two favorite hobbies.

Ignorance is bliss!

Okay, if you expect a fifth round pick to make the team and immediately contribute, then yes he is a bust. Of course rational fans would just see Gilislee as a player who just doesn't make it in the NFL.

Game time approaching. I just hope the PHINS don't blow it again! Let's go PHINS
Win today. But. If we lose I hope everyone on here comes aboard with FIRELAND and this sorry a s a. Coaching staff. All of them including defense! Let's go PHINS.

You know what you have to do. Now, do it!

Jeff Ireland, worst GM ever?

As i said before Fudd. the second and third rd is where the dolphins have failed overall. odrick, davis, jordan, pouncey, tannehill, and long were all first rd picks. Most gms can take a first rd pick and he plays right away. I was just pointing out that when a second or third rd pick cant even get on the active roster it says alot. Where is our biggest position problem?. Offensive line and we have a third rd pick who doesnt even know what sun life stadium is like on sundays because he doesnt even dress.

Statistics can be used in a variety of ways depending on the outcomes being sought but statistics don't play football. We can apply statistics to outcomes on the field and then make predictions of what future outcomes we might be able to expect but that is more of an actuarial analysis, something done by insurance agents, not football teams. Football is not a science, it is an art. And, as an art, it is more appropriately led by folks who are experienced in it. This is why you see a lot of former players and coaches move up in many football-first organizations. In Miami that trend has been resisted. The folks in charge of the Dolphins are basing their football decisions on fan surveys, i.e. marketing perceptions, not football perceptions. When the Dolphins change their focus from marketing to football the entire organization will perform better both on and off the field. Unfortunately this "Board" has resisted a much needed change in organizational philosophy.

It truly is a sad and lonely place on here when only the old hags are here being bitter.

Every team misses on draft picks. Ireland has hit on all of his first round picks. Al of his first round picks are starting here or somewhere else. He has found a lot of nuggets in later rounds, actually too many to list here.

That is not good! Horrible pass by Tannehill. He needs to do a better job of finding the open man.

Great start

Wow that was an insightful comment.

Puff! Now, we have to come from behind.

The wheels are falling off the boat.

Hennehill strikes.

great job coming out of the bye week. false start penalty on 2nd and 5 then third and 6 and a pick 6. That week off given to the players was a great idea

Well. ROSS START YOUR research this coaching staff in my opinion worst than the last one!

Here comes the bashing

That was pathetic

Nice way to bring our enthusiasm down...

You're supposed to hit on your first round picks. That's the easy round. He's a colossal failure in rounds 2-5.

You homers no matter who coaches the team they all good and FIRELAND is the best. Bunch of losers.

Jmart beat already

Behold the a&& hole of the AFC East. Getting spanked by the Bills. Another reject QB in Miami. Surprise!

from 3-0 to this pathetic this coaching staff gets nothing out of them they get worse every week

Lets play a game today: Before the snap try to guess if the offense is running or throwing and see how many times you get it right...

Do NOT abandon the run.

Winners are defined because the BEAT THE ODDS.

At 3-0 the Dolphins had an 80% chance to make the playoffs.

But these plucky kids will not let the odds beat them. At 3-2, the have improved their odds: now a 50% chance of those intimidating playoffs loom.

There is no quit in these guys, with more of their patented BEAT THE ODDS mindset, they can be all but eliminated by the end of the month.

GO PHINS! We know you can do it!

How's that for your fast start philbin

Jets shredding Pats swiss cheeses defense. We will be looking up at whole division after this one.
