Dolphins starting to string embarrassments together

How has this Dolphins season, only seven games old, already been something of an embarrassment?

Consider:

We start with Mike Pouncey pictured wearing a cap requesting the release of suspected murderer Aaron Hernandez. The picture hits the Internet and causes a public outrage. When Pouncey wants to apologize for photo to quell the public indignation, as his brother Maurkice immediately did on the advice of his team the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Dolphins forbid the center from saying anything. They apparently think saying nothing will make those offended feel better.

They also forbid Pouncey from saying anything after is subpoenaed to testify in front of a Grand Jury in relation to the Hernandez trial. Glad to see the team learned a lesson. Not really.

Right tackle Jonathan Martin on Monday then goes AWOL from the team when he gets upset over a lunchroom prank by teammates. He hasn't been around for three days. But the Dolphins, who refuse to acknowlege the national story, list Martin as doubtful for tonight's game against Cincinnati.

Defensive tackle Randy Starks, upset he is demoted from his starting job after going to the Pro Bowl last year, celebrates a sack by shooting his bench a one-fingered salute. The player denies it publicly, but the gesture was aimed at the coaching staff.

It took receiver Mike Wallace one game to show his unhappiness with the Dolphins game plan when he wasn't targetted at all in the first half of the season opener and only five times all game. Wallace, by the way, has toned down his distaste for how he's being used publicly but not so much privately.

Other players are also questioning the approach of offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. Guard Richie Incognito is unhappy Sherman stopped calling running plays in the second half of the New England loss and has been public about the Dolphins abandoning that which was working.

"I think we should just keep running the football 30, 40 times a game," Incognito says. "That's our blueprint for success. We have to run the football for four quarters."

The dislike for Sherman's play-calling can be found throughout the Dolphins organization. One high-ranking person within the team is dumbfounded by Sherman's approach in some situations, saying the coach misses "101 stuff" -- meaning fundamental things.

Coach Joe Philbin's relationship with the media has grown tense and, earlier this week, even combative. It wasn't that way last year even during a 7-9 season. The difference this year is the increased influence of Executive Vice President of Football Administration Dawn Aponte, a member of the New York State bar and a Bill Parcells disciple. Aponte, originally hired to manage the salary cap underJeff Ireland, got from under the general manager's umbrella when the two clashed. She has become a close Philbin ally.

Aponte shadows Philbin during television interviews, radio interviews and press conferences. During one recent taping of Philbin's coaches' show, she stopped the taping to straighten the coach's tie.

The second-year coach meets with Aponte before every press conference and accepts advice on what to say to the media. Can you ever imagine Don Shula doing this? Aponte's typical advice is for Philbin to say as little as possible even though the mission statement from team owner Stephen Ross, Philbin's and Aponte's boss, was to have the Dolphins become a more transparent and fan-friendly organization after the Parcells departure.

Bottom line?

The Dolphins are trying to be just as insulated since the Parcells departure as before because Aponte believes in the approach. Except these Dolphins should probably concentrate more on improving their play than they do at honing their message. Except neither Aponte nor Philbin have any of Bill Parcells' credibility for winning anything, much less multiple Super Bowls.

And it doesn't look like that will change this season.

Dolphins feels like France in the 2010 World Cup. A circus show.

Two ways this things could go---Rally time or implode.

Ironically Cincinnati used to be the circus .

Since none of us including the media know what happened with Martin. I'll stick to facts. Seems like this all getting blown out of proportion.

Just a thought but maybe...Martin would fit in perfectly here on the blog with the rest of the overreactions and conjecture.

My suggestion is...if Martin could get pissed like that on the field and start slamming DE's we might be onto something. Channel that frustration and anger in the right direction fella!

Also Mark...

Yesterday after answering your question about wether I wouldsit RG3 or not....you made a post basically stating that uou "understand my fame of mind better....because I am in win now mode"....

How in the heck did you get that from my post...

I said RG3 should be benched....should have been benched sinc Ngota broke his knee last season...and should NOT play until he is FULLY healthy.."Derrik Rose" him were my exact words...he is worth to much to be putting him on the feild injured.... was another....I don't care if the DOC does say he is cleared...as a coach,,,I woudn't play him.....do you remember reading any of that...or did you ask me a question...and then pre-formulate your response priorto me hitting POST....

cause NOTHING i said even remotely indicted "win-now" in regards to RG3...I like Cousin's...but when healthy...RG3 is 5 times the QB that Cousin's will ever be....will 3 ever be healthy again....not sure...

I just had to clear that up...i'm not sure how you deciphered what I wrote...and some how got that I was in "win now" mode...when it comes to the RG3 situation....

Mark,

We are average on both sides of the ball but competitive in most games. Small margin for error as small mistakes and failure to adjust during the game are why we are 3-4. WE should have run the ball against Buffalo. That loss is on Sherman.

I will say t-hill can be as good as Flacco and Alex Smith. Power running and defense can win a SB with mid-range QB ( minus the fumbles,

Kris, frankly I'm getting tired of you saying I'm "twisiting" #s. How the f*** is listing our ranking "twisting" anything?

No I am not happy with average but when your pass offense was horrible last year then average this year is an improvement no?

But when you have this "top ten" defense. You sign three new starters that are supposed to be upgrades and you spending three of your first four picks including the third overall pick to improve that unit isn't the expectation that it improves, not because a below average unit??

I've heard people say that the defense is not doing so well because they are on the field too much. Well our offense was worse last year and for many years under Henne but managed to perform. So what gives?

No explain to me how that's "twisting" anything. The formula was simple at the beginning of the year. have a dominant defense, a so so offense that would helped out by a defense that creates turnovers. So where are these stops? Tell me how the defense gets itself off the field? Where are these turnovers that are supposed to mitigate an immature offense??

MassD, cherry picking, really?? OK, so the defense gets a free pass here. They are insignificant and have no hand in winning??? Then why did we allocate almost all our offseason effort into that unit??? Why is Starks our highest paid player? Why did we extend the contracts of two other starters??

And MassD, if you want to talk attempts per game, Tannehill is 13th in the NFL in attempts... not much different than yards.

And if you want to talk turnovers our defense is as bad in creating turnovers as they are in preventing them...

This is what way beyond an embarrassment the whole coaching staff needs to be fired ,especially offensive line coach. Incognito and Pouncey tossed on there butts (so called leaders).Ireland fired . Dang just start from scratch. Hey do you think Marino would come back to fix us?

I mean if you guys want to sit here and bicch and complain instead of trying to find out why we aren't performing then that's yur call. If you want to pin everything on a 2nd year QB, then that's your call as retarded as it is...

And if you think we are passing too much MassD then figure out why we are passing so much. because either our running game or defense are fukking the dog!!

Now rdubs at 10:13 makes a good point which lies closer to what I believe. This team doesn't have any particular unit to lean on. I mean Seattle, Carolina they win with excellent defense and creating turnovers. neither rely on their young QBs nowhere near as much as we do.

Numbers don't lie and if you don't understand them, then you better learn...

clee, yes, we are average on both sides (actually a little below) but which unit SHOULD be better?

Yo Kris.....so happy you were able to clear that up....,

....for those who care to know...what happened with J Mart was a simple players prank..

..when he approached the table where the O-line group was dining, they all got up and moved to another table..

...normally, a person would let that roll off, and shoot a remark like..."screw you ..I didn't want to sit with you fat axes anyway"...

...but apparently he has been under stress lately, and it was the charge that blew the fuse..

...Joe Rose, on his show this morning, was recounting that razing other players is common among teammates....his take was that it is normal operational procedure on all NFL teams...

...seems like J Mart has some unfortunate issues, and was just ill equipped to handle it....not really done in a mean way...just grown athletes clowning around....

..and we've all done it to one extent or other....

...just hope he is helped and recovers to healthy playing status .

Well President Obama is not transparent with his affordable healthcare act so why should any other public figure such as Joe Philbin Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins be any more honest, upfront or transparent. It's what everyone is doing these days; BS the public.....

OMG, I can't believe that the fans (so called fans) let this poor excuse of a reporter fill your heads with such bull crap. Come on this article is such a re-hash of past events or events that don't need to be even talked about. If the dolphins would have won a couple of these past games no one would even care about these issues! But because some lame ass hack writes and article now everyone wants to jump on the team. Look at what all the people said at the beginning of the year about our first 5 games. Most said we would be lucky to be 2-3 and many had us at 1-4. So these short comings should not be a surprise to anyone. Its only the media that hyped up the dolphins to be the winners of the AFC east. Most people did not think that would happen this year. We have lost two games by less than 5 points (field goals) so its not like we have been blown out. If we win tonight we are back to 500. So stop believing all this dribble that this reporter says, he is just trying to get fans stirred up so he can get hits on his site.

Mark....

I told you before...this defense is nothing special...hasn't been in a decade...maybe longer..save 2008(lucky)....

We may finish in the to 10 the last few years ( I don't don't know)...but if they do...its that TOTAL defense crap....its NOT in any of the cayegories that really matter...

like you stress...

Turnovers

My favorite...POINTS ALLOWED

or pass yards allowed...

This defense hasn't made a SIGNIFIGANT stop since the goal line stand against the Vikings a few years back...and has given up 3rd and FOREVER to every team prior...and every team since....

again...that is why I don't get wrapped up in the stats...I say...does it pass the eyeball test...and if it doesn't...then i'm NOT buying....

No...teams don't blow us out....but they do enough to win...and thats the way it is across the NFL...this isn't college....nobody really tries to build on a 10 point lead...save a few...most start to sit on the ball and run the clock and try and out-last you...that is what happens to us...

degense is meh....offense is meh...special teams STINKS...al of a sudden...

but NO PLAYER is playing great....not the QB...and not the DL....ont the Dashi approved LBs....and not even the MUCH IMPROVED CBs...

its average from TOP to BOTTOM...and 17th anything...or 20th this....while accurate...is still disapointing....

Mark, you can't cherry-pick a stat and then say "so the OC isn't all that bad." There have been specific criticisms of Sherman's playcalling and priorities.

If you have rebuttals to those, or particular criticisms of the defense, we would all benefit from hearing them.

Kris, i said that because in order to develop a Qb you sometimes have to go through growing pains. RG3 now is not injured, he's coming back from injury ... big difference. Qbs don't learn on the bench as much as they do in the games.

Yesterday, I pointed out even the best Qb of them all turned the ball over 45 times in his first two years. Tannehill won't even touch this mark. By using your same logic, you probably would've wanted him to sit too?

Now I'm not saying Tannehill will be the next Manning but when you make a committment to a Qb, you have tos ee it through a few years. I mean it's not like he's Ponder or Weeden or Henne or Brady Quinn that just made nothing happen consistently in the field. This guy moves the ball ok. When he gets in the red zone, he scores touchdowns. yes he makes mistakes, lots of them. But he's also not being helped by his defense or his running game and sometimes his co-ordinator. In the end I don't make excuses but also realize there are reasons things happen and you try to fix every possible reason. You improve the defense, you spend a fair time on the running game (Philbin said he spent none in preseason), you coach the kid up further. So before we throw him aside, let's see if he can improve further no? So far he's shown progression from the time he was drafted to training camp, shown progression from year one to year two. he hasn't shown any hint of hitting a plateau at any point.

I agree with Mark. While our offense is not winning games for us, they ARE scoring when in the red zone. They have way too many 3-and-outs for me, but they DO move the ball down the field (pretty easily) at times. And all that is very new to Miami. I like the direction of the offense (just wish they weren't so streaky and erratic). I have a much bigger issue with the defense, because they were "billed" as being better than that. But Baltimore, they folded. Buffalo, they folded. Then last week, they folded. How can that be?

As far as not yet time for a coaching change, I would agree IF... the HC had support of the players. But when you hear signs of the HC losing the locker room, that's when you have problems. I don't hear that in New York (either team frankly), don't hear that in Houston, don't hear that in Minnesota. Really the only places I hear it are Tampa and now here. Not good. If it's players who are on their way out, then whatever (like here in DC, it's Fred Davis saying things who's been benched). But if it's core players (like Paul Soliai) then that's a symptom of a bigger problem. I would have to know more to say whether this is something Mando (and the media) are dousing, or if it's a more serious issue, but I really don't like hearing about a disaffected locker room from a 2nd year HC, especially one as rigid as Philbin.

-Ross is a buffoon
-Ireland is terrible
-Philbin is in over his head. A career assistant
-Sherman sucks. Moar outside runs on 3rd & inches. Moar passing plays with a bad QB.
-Tannehill is awful. He can't read coverage's & has terrible pocket presence. Kid ain't the goods. Painfully obvious
-The OLine is the worst in team history (maybe the 1-15 team is close).
-WR are overpaid & very average.
-RB's might be okay but, who knows? We barely run the ball.
-The defense is the same 'just okay' defense we have always had. Doesn't make big plays and folds when needed.

Why would we think the Dolphins are any good?

-14 Year season ticket holder (I may be the dumbest of all for still buying tickets)

Here's the skinny on Dawn Aponte:

In the 90-plus years of the NFL’s existence, very few women without family connections to ownership have held meaningful positions in football operations. Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post explains that Dawn Aponte could become the league’s first female General Manager.

Currently Miami’s V.P. of football administration, Aponte has significant influence over the team’s contractual negotiations. And she works more closely with G.M. Jeff Ireland than most realize.

“Dawn will say ‘no’ when Jeff won’t,” a league source with knowledge of the team’s front office told Volin. “She doesn’t really have extemporaneous conversations. And she’s very ‘by the book’ with whatever stance the team has. But she’s done a fantastic job with making sure they’re one of the cap-healthiest teams in the NFL.”

Volin writes that Ireland routinely serves as the “good cop” and Aponte acts as the “bad cop” during contract talks.

This year, the duo good-and-bad-copped their way to a flurry of deals with low cap numbers in 2013. Next year, when those cap numbers spike, it’ll be up to Aponte to keep everything balanced.

Unless she leaves to run a team of her own.

The real question is when and if an owner will be ready to entrust the football operations to a female, especially in a franchise where the G.M. outranks the coach. It’s the kind of trailblazing that the late Al Davis (who hired Amy Trask to serve as the team’s CEO years ago) would be willing to do. It remains to be seen whether other owners will be as willing to disregard gender when it comes to hiring a General Manager.

...I'm not going to write off Philbin yet. Do I trust him? Nope. Do I think he will right the ship? I guess that depends on what the definition of righting the ship is..If it means winning enough games to save his job. Yes. If it means winning enough games to make the playoffs..No way. I think tonight is a winnable game.(all of them have been minus the NO game)..But take into account this team is allergic to playing on prime time. And add up the distractions we have had this week...I would be surprised if we pulled this one out tonight.

I hope J. Martin is Ok. I don't know what he is dealing with. I have a feeling football has never been Martins real passion. If he never plays another down and it makes him happier, or helps him live a better life...Thanks for the sacks bro!

DC...

speaking of Fred Davis...

what do you tink of him comming to Miami...if he is cut....

Anyone else notices Armando is ripping into Aponte on his Twitter. He def has some sort of riff with her.

Anderson, I'm not defending Sherman, I'm saying Coyle has been every bit as bad, if not worse.

And Kris, at 10:43, your point is exactly what I was saying by listing stats. Why you or MassD thought I printed that to defend our offense or off co-ordinator is beyond me. They are all doing meh but to me the biggest crime is on the defense.

Every time you watch a nationally broadcasted Dolphins game, what do the guys calling it say ... well this offense is young and struggles at times but this front 7, wow, these guys are bad bad men. Well then do it!!! Be bad, influence a game for once since 2010 ...

The only time they came even close was the 2nd half against Indy but don't forget Tannehill and the offense carried the load in the first half. Probably the only time both units showed what they are capable of in the same game.

Mark you seem to defend Tannehill and the offense when there clearly the biggest issue.

Our roster gets purged of last years Leadership Council and anyone with a strong personality and now we have no leaders.

DD ... Thanks for the sacks ... haha, I will always remember Aldon Smith launching him ....

Change,
Im not immune to it just ensuring thats what it was or if you were delusional..
Change does need to happen..

I see a close game tonight but we really need to just get killed. A smart fin fan will now root for us to lose every game as bad as possible. Its the only way ross will hire a new gm

John, that is exactly my point. Tannehill and the offense is not the biggest issue. It's the defense that has clearly regressed to a jaw dropping level....

When was the last time we had a defense that averaged over 20 points a game? Anyone??? I know it's not Brees level but when you compare it to any team post marino, it's been few and far between.

Are the Fins cap healthy because the trade and do not re-sign good players? Marshall & V Davis traded away. Do not re-sign Long & Bush. If that is the case and Aponte is the reason she sucks.

Kris, I was thinking about that yesterday. But the more I hear, the more I'm saying pass. They are saying he's not a good route-runner, and misses blocking assignments. IF that's true, he never sees the field here. Unlike us, the Skins have a pretty good record in the Shanahan era of getting rid of useless talent (Fat Albert, Anthony Armstrong, Donavan McNabb, etc.). So while I am intrigued by Davis' upside, I still don't think he's ever going to reach his full potential. UNLESS he's learned his lesson, but not sure I'd want to take a flyer on him. Maybe a 1yr. minimum deal (like Keller) to make him earn a contract, but nothing more.

With that said, not seeing any ProBowlers out of the guys who came out this year. Eifert can't even get ahead of Gresham, and a bunch of people wanted him. We really need instant success at that position.

Imagine if we had a good record right now. Then we could bash Ireland even more for giving bess away with gibson gone now

So i wonder if I could get upset because my collegues hurt my wittle feewins and leave my job and still have one?

Better be some serious mental issues, something that should have showed up somewhere when vetting Martin before he was picked.

so wait...
armundo thinks the coach should just tell all and answer every question asked with an oversharing answer and to not do so is the wrong approach??

what does armundo do for a living? oh, yeah. he's a reporter!!!

Just to be official, we are 20th in the NFL in takeaways, 23rd in giveaways... pretty even. Stink on both sides. Be fair with your criticism.

Sorry, 22nd in giveaways...

Mark...

I understand better your postion...and good post @ 10:52 about the defense...we are on the same page there....

As far as the RG3 thing goes....there we have a disconnect...

cleared physically...and ready to play mentally are two diferent things....if you were gonna play the kid...you should have given him a game or two in PRESEASON...then you would have know what you are dealing with (physically..and mentally)...then you can simulate those conditions in practice....

Shannanhan did NONE of that...just threw the kid into the fire...and the results speak for themselves....

BUT....

I woudn't count the SKINS out yet....they were 3-6 last year...but they also had a 4.3 QB playing for them...now he is certainly slower than than....and not nearly as explosive....

I feel sorry for the phins. If you were trying to improve your offense, why in name of Bryant McKinnie, did you sign the Captain Of The Loveboat? He is so bad, he couldn't even block air in MN. But he does deserve credit for perfecting the "look out" block. No one does it better!!! He also does a command performance with his Mr. Shuffleupagus movement as he watches the guy he was supposed to block run past him and sack the QB. Way to go Bryant. One thing to hi credit though, now that he is back in his college environment, he will be the best party animal in the city!!!!! After all, he couldn't attend Pro Bowl practice because he had way tooooo many parties to attend. Heaven forbid that football should interfere with his party time. So Miami, Live La Vida Loco with Bryant McKinnie. :-)

Coyle and Sherman need to go..
I dont believe for one second that Davis and Taylor couldnt play each Sunday or that Jordan couldnt play a heck of alot more than he does now. Just like Sims was a hero in the ATL game and then suddenly cant perform..
I really think its Philbins mindset that you dont play as much year 1.. They did it in GB with a few ppl.. Similar to Egnew, now all of a sudden this year he is getting more PT, i know its due to Keller being hurt but Sherman has praised him vs last year of telling him hed cut him..

This is such sensationalism. Come on now. You can't even be serious Armando

We have a poster hear whose handle is The truth....okay...well here is the truth, as I see it..

...Philbin was never a NFL HC before....whether he can handle all the nuances that job entails is a question on which the jury is still out...we have to wait and see..

...Sherman was never a successful NFL OC ...ditto on the jury with him....

...Coyle was a DB coach...not a DC, so again the same question looms....

....Special Teams has a kick-off specialist who can CONSISTENTLY put the ball beyond the far endzone line, yet the present scheme seems to consistently flirt with and fail at high-arched short kicks that land on or about the goal line, enticing the opposition to "run it out" in some lame attempt to tackle the returner inside the 20, when starting them at the 20 each time out would suit our defensive strength just fine...but instead we see returns to between the 20 and the 35...so the question becomes how sound this "wisdom" seems...

......also...our punter is a weapon, but instead of nurturing field position and time of possession, we squander it, passing when we have the lead, and relying on our acclimating 2nd year QB to defy reality, and achieve different results....

.....and we have a first time , sixth-year running GM, whose team hasn't won ANYTHING yet..

...all supported by an owner who isn't a football guy, but a rich real estate person who chose the NFL instead of Motorsport or sailfishing as his hobby...

...and the ultimately , brutal truth is that the chances of this total formula working are piss-poor to say the least...and the players, well paid as they are, realize it better than any of us....and it apparently has taken its toll on their willingness to trust the "leadership"...and it shows !!!!!

Mark,

Agreed the defense has regressed. ? Vontae Davis, Sean smith playing better underneath different coaching. I think Wakes injury off year is hurting as well.
Mark,

Agreed the defense has regressed. Coaching.? Vontae Davis, Sean smith playing better underneath different coaching. I think Wakes injury off year is hurting as well.

Coaching fundamental or scheme? Reshad Jones looked unreal last year roaming and now below average?

agree also on the defense, its been horrible zero pass rush lbs are horrible

Matty...

I kind of agree...this not playing rookies thing is crap...and smells of Sporano like coaching tactics....and I hate saying that....

the best 53 should dress and play...regradless of tenure...

This.."i'll learn you rookie" mentality has got to end...

You don't like how Jordan pratices...well how do you like when he plays...

any of our rookie CBs can get in there and give up a TD as soon as they get on the feild just like Clemons...so lets get it out of the way now...

Philbin ismy man...but I think the old "fuddy duddy" Sherman may have to much puppet influence...he is like the FINS version of Dick Chenney....

matty, maybe he's on hgh and/or concussed.if that's how u spell it

agree also kris, with season over play every dang young guy we have and see what we got in drafting them

Whats the over/under that we use (waste) a time out in the 1st quarter of the game?

100 bucks says we only have 1 time out by the time we get to the 4 minute mark of the 2nd quarter....

any takers...

Buster...

That is a pretty harsh post...

i could careless kris, just lose the game and do it as ugly as possible

Here's the funny thing. I don't even care anymore, seriously I am numb to all of this and I just expect it now.

Until Ross fires JEFF IRELAND and finds an advisor with experience, or an experienced gm OR head coach this will continue to happen, year after year.

Those who don't learn from history are destined to repeat it. What have we learned from EVERYTHING Bill Parcells brought to this team? Garbage, pure garbage. He was supposed to rebuild the Dolphins and put us back on top. Jeff Ireland is clueless, absolutely clueless.

So I am not watching the game tonight. I couldn't care less at this point and that's scary. I am a die hard Dolphins fan, I'll never quit my team for another. But I will not continue to waste my time in blogs, I will not continue to buy their product, and I will not even tune in to see this nightmare of a team until something is REALLY done about making a true change. The Ireland era is over, his players are mediocre, his coaches are mediocre, his talent evaluations are mediocre, this team is mediocre. MAKE A CHANGE!!!!

Mark, yes our defense is below average too. And I do criticize both Coyle and Philbin for not letting Jordan start and dropping DE's who can't cover (not Jordan) into pass coverage. That trick doesn't work anymore in the NFL. But I blame Ireland the most for our defensive dropoff. He is the one who did not improve the secondary, and weakened the run defence in a futile attempt to improve the pass rush. Did anyone really think Phillip Wheeler was a good signing?

Dusty....

I can't take any more ugly losses...

I already have to a friends house to watch the game...its not like I can just turn off the TV and go to bed....I still have to drive home...albiet about a 2 min drive....

78, there is some interesting reads. aponte maybe the first woman gm

kris just dont watch the game then. if u care at all about future of this team root against them rest of year. theres always idiots in here rooting for meaningless wins all the way through week 17, it kills us

Mark,

Again we'll disagree on the defence. I'mnot saying they are playing wellbut you discount how poorly the offence is playing. You say the defence isn't helping Tannehill out but I'll argue it's the reverse. Tannehill is making too many key mistakes and that's puting too much pressure on the defence. When you turn it over as often as he is(and the numbers are up quite a bit from last year), it makes it harder on the defence. On top of all that, some ofthose sacks are on him. He's not picking up the blitz often enough, at other times he's not getting rid of he ball quick enough and other times there are toomany three and outs. All of that puts toomuch presure on the defence.

So you can blame Coyle and the defence. I prefer tolames Sherman, Tannehill and the offence. Having said all that, I believe Dalton and his weapons will be too much or the defence tonight.

This team is still in shambles. Every year I talk myself into being excited for the season but it's been the same result for 15 yrs. I'm having serious doubts about Wallace, Tannehill, Wheeler, Ellerbe. All free agent signings have been very disappointing. Except grimes. Nobody throws his way, so he must be playing really well. The linebackers aren't bad, they just don't make plays. We need a game changer. Idk what's wrong with Cam Wake, maybe still injured, but when he's right, our whole team is better. He was that guy. Let's play dion Jordan some more snaps. Let em loose! We need pressure! The offense has to run the ball at least 35 times a game. Now when Tanny drops back I automatically fear a turnover in progress. The line is bad, but his decision making is even worse. Read the play, if nothing's there, take off and run. Even if it's 4 yds. Make or break game tonight for the season and maybe this whole regime.

JONATHAN MARTIN READS THIS BLOG THAT IS WHY HE SPLIT

If this team was the same team during Sparano's last season, with Matt Moore at the helm and running a real NFL offense, they would be in better shape today. As of now Sherman is the real problem, followed by Tannehill and then Philbin for allowing Sherman to use the players poorly.

most of us knew from the start the 2 lbs we signed were garbage

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | October 31, 2013 at 10:31 AM

Mark you're right on the mark imo. If our defense was performing the way they were advertised, the way they are payed and expected to perform they would have a winning record right now.

We have a veteran experienced defense. We have an offense full of young players as well as new players trying to get on the same page. The defense is supposed to carry the team until the offense comes around. That's EXACTLY HOW THIS TEAM IS BUILT! It was the exact plan going into this season and obvious to even a new fan.

Fingers should be pointing everywhere, the defense certainly does not get a pass. (Remember Starks declaration that if a team runs for 100 yards on the defense they aren't doing their job?) Even the defensive players admit it! Ha

Actually I think we are now the Oakland Raiders of the East Coast.
