Patriots come back to defeat Dolphins, 27-17

FOXBOROUGH -- The Dolphins led this game 17-3 at halftime.

And then the collapse.

Miami gave up 17 points and the lead in the third quarter. Ryan Tannehill fumbled for the eighth time this season, losing his fifth and that helped the Patriots tie the game at 17.

by the time it was over, Dolphins were 27-17 losers.

The second half was marred by questionable calls -- such as a phantom pass interference on Jimmy Wilson and a holding on Dimitri Patterson. But the depth of this collapse is beyond poor officiating.

It's poor clutch play.

it's poor defense.

It's poor quarterbacking by Tannehill, who threw a terrible deep pass to Mike Wallace that was intercepted and showed little pocket awareness.

The problems are everywhere.

The Dolphins have lost four in a row now. They play again on Thursday against the Bengals at home. They will be the underdog in that game.

Things might get tougher.

We gave a converted wide receiver with less than 20 starts under his belt the most important position on the team. We gave him no weapons his first year, then we give him weapons and no OL to protect him his second season. We never should have started THill in the first place. Moore would have been a serviceable QB for the last two years while THill got more experience. I just don't understand all the hate for this kid?

Look I hate losing more than anything, but to blame it on a kid who is lucky he isn't seeing ghosts by now is simply pathetic. Bill knew exactly what he was doing, he made the adjustments needed to overload the line and get into THill's face, thus balls were thrown behind and high. It's a no brainer, THill just doesn't have enough experience to play at this level and was a real reach at position 8 in the draft. He is a good project QB with allot of upside, but he is not a game day starter right now.

Let Moore play out the remainder of the season, save THill before he gets permanently broken and fix the OL in the draft and FA. Then make a run.

Armando on Twitter "These garbage time sacks are not the issue."

The sacks THILL is taking are frequent and they are violent. I don't want to hear about 'garbage time sacks are not the issue." I get the two sacks he took in the last drive were not going to impact the end score. But what if he was injured?

For all of the fans calling for THILL's head today.....All I have to say is go sit behind this B.S. OLINE and take the hits this kid is taking each game. Go scramble for your life and see how it feels....every damn game!

This kid is suiting up every week.....giving all he has to win....running for his life all game, taking really violent hits (the blindside hit causing the fumble in QTR 2 as NASTY). This kid is running for first downs. He is throwing the ball to a $60mill receiver who is dropping balls that his his #11.

I get long time fans need a scape goat to feel better after these loses but it's completely unfair to make THILL that goat.

Here are a few ideas of the real scape goat and cause of these loses.

The OLINE coach. The offensive coordinator. I'd start there!

Wow this is bad I never seen so many fans ready to say "&^%# the Fins I need to find a new team"....wow I never felt like this before....the last 10 years have been so brutal We miss on every good QB year in and year out...would could have had Rodgers, Brees, Matt Ryan, Dalton, Flacco, Russell Wilson, we could have drafted anyone one of these QBs if out front office was any good...I'm starting to wonder just how good Brock Osewilder is maybe we should have took him at #8. This team is cursed nobody likes the owner Ross guy is clueless, Where's Huizenga when you need him UGH!!!! GO SEAHAWKS SCREW THE FINS!

They should at least start Matt Moore one game and see if there is an appreciable difference.

I think Jordan was used well and properly ( he covered Gronkowski on a few plays and Gronkowski was limited to only 2 catches the whole game ).

The D played well, but as usual, they were on the field too long in the second half, and the O did not score any points to help them out.

Coaches do not know how to make adjustments. they should have two game plans each week - one for first half.., one for second half ( and adjust as needed, to keep the other team off balance ).

NFL is a game of emotion and momentum. I think Philbin and co. tend to over-think / over analyze things, rather than go with the flow.

What a waste of a Sunday Afternoon. The play calling remains terrible. The only thing this O-LINE does well is block for the running game. Yet the genius in the booth starts lining Tanny up in the shotgun on first down and moves decisively to abandon what is working for what he draws up in his pea-brain. No play action. No more gashing the Pats on the ground. Let's sling it around some with a suspect protection scheme and unspectacular receivers. Brilliant.

If Philbin has a brain in his head, he'll take over the play calls on offence. Better to go down in flames on his own calls rather than timid, egocentric vision of an underling.

Is there precedent for firing offensive coordinator in season and getting better?
