Disappointing, heartbreaking loss for the Dolphins (again)

This one hurts. No, really.

The Dolphins led this game 16-3 at halftime. Even that was somethinng of a disaster because they gave up a late field goal to end the half when they played coverage at the goal line, apparently not realizing Carolina could move for a field goal with two seconds remaining.

Anyway, despite that lead, the Dolphins collapsed in the second half.

They didn't score a point in the half.

They gave up two touchdowns, including a two-yard TD pass from Cam Newton tight end Greg Olsen with 43 second left to play.

Panthers 20.

Dolphins 16.

Dolphins fans have seen this before. Miami led New England 17-3 last month and lost.

How does Panthers get away with two flagarant penalties in end zone two weeks in a row , no f%cking helmet to helmet hits on defenseless receiver , not to mention he caught the damn ball anyway , what ever happened to ground cant cause a fumble, every time the Fins get screwed by the officials they fold up the tent and go home , score 16 points first half cant manage anymore whole rest of game , not since that bad call , and why not keep winning the field position game that field goal wouldn t have helped anyway , lousy coaches keep pinning them deep and keep the pressure on newton , they always go away from what works what has them winning the coaches are STUPID STUPID STUPID

Grier,

whether Wallace dropped a catchable pass or not, the stat came up on the screen that told you Thill has the worst deep ball in the NFL, did you see that one.

Well a lot of blame to go around from bad officiating, to THill, blah, blah, blah but all those are overcome with better coaching.

Finally, Mike "the Mule" Sherman decided to roll THill out and throw downhill and guess what? It worked. It worked so much that Sherman said nah lets try something different! Lol
Or how about aligning the same way on 75% of your first downs and blatantly show you are running the ball. Of course the blame ultimately has to be on Philbin for allowing his coordinators to run the show.

For Thanksgiving, Ape Tamer will gobble.

Meanwhile reports are that Daniel Thomas is on crutches. Let the Mike Guilesly era begin.

marco some of that is true, but its also many of the play calls

superphin, i guarantee you that ross will fire ireland, and the new gm will fire philbin. he must be losing big money (though he probably just writes it off his taxes). there has been no tangible progress despite ireland's spending spree. you have to have a VISION when builiding a team, not just place together some high-prices free agents. for example, what made wallace good in pittsburgh? he had the qb that is arguable the best in nfl history at extending the play. and rothlisberger can deliver a deep ball, on the run, with great accuracy. is tannehill that guy? NO. but rather than find a receiver with whom tannehill is more likely to develop chemistry, he buys the highest price car in the lot irrespective of the driver. stupid.

Thill will be here again next year.

Bill does Sherman stay with the 31st offense in the NFL, awaiting your thoughts !!!

Guys face it....this team is not good. That's it. They are not good and all of us who get optimistic each week set ourselves up for disappointment.

Those pinning this on THILL are flat wrong. The biggest issues all year (in order of importance):

1) OLINE is HORRIBLE - no running game and poor pass protection is a recipe for disaster for a team with a 2nd year QB....I don't care who that QB is.

2) Mike Sherman is a horrible OC and no longer belongs in the NFL. He needs to adjust to the talent he has instead of forcing his players to adopt to his system. He never moves Wallace. He never calls plays on 2nd and 3rd down for distances beyond the first down markers. Just too many short outside passes for 2-4 yards. He never runs the clock out at the end of the game with the lead.

3) Defense is can't stop the run consistently and can't contain mobile QB's. There have been too many times this year where the RUNNING Game killed the D's ability to get off the field.

4) Coaching calls for +50 yard punts with a rookie Kicker is just plain stupid. Too many times they go for it and Sturgis missed them. Should use the Pro Bowl Punter you are fortunate to have and allow your defense to play an O within their own 20. Instead the bad coaching allows the other teams great field position.

5) No Punt or Kick Off threat. Thigpen has put this Offense in bad field position too many times. He may have a decent 'average' but the reality is he scares nobody and usually gives the team bad field position.

6) No real tight end. This kills the offense. Clay is a good H back and is a keeper. But we need a real tight end.

7) No passing to RB's out of the backfield. Not sure why we can't us Miller and Thomas more this way. Those teams that do seem to thrive (New Orleans, Pats, etc.).

As far as im concerned, neither has even closely resembled the hype that has led up to either one being a worthwhile pickup...just sayin!!!

Just a bad football team that has no business even being on the periphery of the playoff hunt. Speaks to how watered down the NFL is right now. What a gutless bunch of losers.

agree austin gm and coaching staff are long gone

Meant to say +50 yard Field Goals

I dont have the stamina to post much today, just dont have it in me.....so disheartening, on so many levels......you all know what I mean........TH left at least 11 points on the field, with his under and then overthrows of Wallace......no help from coaching, playcalling was awful again, no/poor adjustments after halftime......offense is so bad in the second half, and 4th quarter especially--we give away SO many plays/points over the course of the game......TH shouldve scrambled several more times than he did.....the 2 yard passes are ridiculous.....Thigpen was lousy again today, mostly decisionmaking--can someone on offense, anyone, make a play when it matters?
bottom line....didnt you all see/feel this coming once they scored at the end of the 1st quarter?---I did.....we all did.....have seen this way too many times

When does Tannehill make a big play, put together a big drive.....big scramble, big completion.....accurate when needed, on a crucial pass.....rollout sooner and with more urgency, so he doesnt get sacked by his shoelaces.....when?

24-3 zona beating colts. coaching is huge arians so much better than pagano

I'm done rooting for this joke of a team. Tannehill is a joke. No pocket presence at all. I despise this team. I have wasted 35 years rooting for them. I am done. What a pathetic loss. What a pathetic team. I loathe everything about them right now.

WHY PLAY OFF ON STEVE SMITH ON 4TH DOWN..THERE AFRAID HE 'S GONNA RUN PASS THEM AND GET DEEP..THE COACHES THINK THIS IS 2005..THIS GUY CAN'T RUN ANYMORE..BUT THE DOLPHINS MAKE GRIMES PLAY 8 YARD OFF AND GIFT WRAP HIM A CATCH..WHAT A MORIC COACHING STAFF!!!!!!!!!!!

jpao u finally admit it welcome aboard

wallace turned to look over his left shoulder, slight mis read of the ball in the air, which he spun having to adjust to pull it in off his right, had he kept lookin over his right he makes that catch dialed in and scores instead of falling down.

K Dansby Pic Six! Of course

benz if thats a serious question the falcons game comes to mind

If moore was out there we`d have 21 more points on board T-hill hurt his shoulder in game 3 plus he just cant keep cool when he has a wide open man and deliver the ball , Moore never missed Marshall like that hit him in stride all the time , was hoping they broke t-hills leg on next to last play hes gotta go why spend 60 million on a TD machine when your inept QB cant throw the deep ball

Bet you don't see mad coverage of the Matthews call. No one cares about the lowly Fins.

Until the Dolphins stop the 'playing not to lose' mentality, they'll keep losing games like these.

Never was a time throughout that 2nd half that i felt the coaches went for the win, instead just waited for the Panthers to make a mistake to seal the win which obviously did'nt happen.

We've all seen it before under Sparano/Henning and now we're seeing it under Philbin/Sherman...conservative non-creative Offense = 14-21 PPG.

Not good enough.

Roll on the draft...

kp u arent done though. u guys do this every week. then they win a meaningless game and ur back on board only to get your heart broken again. i told u weks ago this season is over, losing helps us now for rest of season. a win does nothing but hurt our future

6 teams will be at 5-6 with 5 games to go.

Crazy but we still have a chance. We don't really deserve it as we have throw so many games away.

Sweep the Jets and Beat the Steelers we make it to the playoffs.

Ravens will have a say and the choke against them comes back to haunt us.

What a really sad season this is folks.

At least in Cam Camerons one and done it was over early. This is a slow cruel torture.

And oh by the way, signing Sturgis and kicking Carpenter to the curb was a bad idea. I thought when they made that move it was a bad idea. And lo and behold, it was.

How does the d play well for the entire game then give up a 4th and 10? This one is on the d and suckyhill once again. Ross needs to fire this staff sooner rather than later.

Posted by: benz | November 24, 2013 at 05:09 PM

That's my point all along with Tannehill, 1 out of 6 games you see promise, but those other 5 games leave you with nothing but shaking heads....Hes not crunch time...I don't care who he has on offense, he stares down recievers, he's afraid to make plays with his legs when he has more than enough room to run and he will misread coverages which lead to INTS more than not ......

THIGPEN NEVER HAD GREAT SPEED..HIS BEST 40 SPEED WAS 5 YEARS AGO COMING OUT OF COLLEGE ..HE RAN A 4.49..THATS HIS BEST SPEED..HE NEEDS TO GO.HE HAS NO MOVES A STRAIGHT LINE RETURNER WHO CAN'T TURN THE CORNER..AND MAKES BONEHEADED PLAYS..WHO CAN FORGET SLOWING DOWN VS. THE SAINTS..

marco just stop man, stop

Fins played their hearts out. They deserve more, certainly a better OC. It always seems to come to that sometime in the game. 4:37 left and they can't put it away.
Tanny needs a real QB coach, he can take us to the playoffs and beyond with some coaching up.
Wallace HAS to make those ploys. If Carroll hangs on to the ball with a couple minutes left, it's moot.
Still, The D finally got tuckered out, but played with great skill and heart. They were well prepared, unlike the offense. But the lack of push by our O-line, and Miller's inability to break a freakin' tackle was the undoing.

cocoa carpenter was horrible and making much more than sturgis. was smart move

good decision to get rid of carpenter, bad decision to replace him with sturgis.

The bears fired Lovie Smith after a 10-6 record, so why is everybody thinking the Fins could't do the same?
In a WEAK AFC making the playoffs this year is no great accomplishment.

I've said this on here many times before….this team needs to hire staff - coaches, front office, players, etc. that know how to win. They play games up 17-3 or 16-6, and they don't believe they should be up at the half. They do nothing but the same old thing and end up loosing the game. --- this is not an issue that has plagued the team this year - it's been an issue over the past several.

Stop thinking that no one else is going to make adjustments. They all act surprised when something different happens in the second half…they act surprised when things that worked in the first half don't work in the second. It's nuts they keep doing the somethings over and over again…for years and years.

It needs to change to be successful.

Well, well very frustrating. Why is it our coaches never make the moves needed during game time?

This shows that they are clueless when it comes to game time adjusting. No way in hell do you stop putting the pressure on Cam and let him drive 60 yards and churn the clock. This falls on the coaches squarely.

THill IMHO did what he could; the only thing is the last play is a good summary of T-Hill - poor anticipation of the rush; inability to see the while field rapidly and that lack of feel you see with others. The lack of time at QB is to blame and it will be fixed. He had good protection today. He got lucky with a couple long balls. - overall bad offensive performance that was better than stats show because of two long passes to Wallace.

Wallace should have got that last pass - $60 million poorly spent.

ima first off mia has zero chance at playoffs. ireland is fired, and ross will let gm decide coaching staffs fate. so they will be fired also, hell they fired marty schott after a 14-2 year, fired j johnson after a super bowl win

The offensive line is the biggest problem with this team. Considering how horrible this offensive line is, Tannehill has done a great job. This offensive line has given up 45 sacks and the running game is awful because of them.

Can you imagine how good Tannehill will be if he had adequate protection and a great RB?

Agree regarding Thigpen. Miller was excellent at UM returning kicks.

Thigpen, not the reason we lost but he hurt us all day. The decision at the end cost us a valuable 10 seconds and 10 yards.

However the game was on Philbin all the way. Another lack of discipline gives away a 15 yarder and kills us.

The last Panthers drive of the first half just illustrated what Philbin is all about. Scared little boy.

Ron Riviera really showed balls today. Where was the TO when we needed it on that 4th down call. WTF !!!

WE HAD THE LOOK from the offense, call TO and make them reload and break their momentum.

Philbin the biggest problem, not the players.

hope its simple, play to win games not playing to not lose

Posted by: scott lemire | November 24, 2013 at 05:13 PM

I couldn't disagree with you more on that, Defense held up for most game and maimi coaches were more than satisfied with managing for FGS instead of TDs, Rivera showed balls enough to leave it in his QBs hands on fourth down to go for theit AND THE win instead of the tie.....

This is a offensive driven league and 16 FKN points will not win you games against quality opponents not to mention no offense for yet another crappy 2nd half for Mike Sherman and company.....

spillmar if wallace catches it hes not in endzone, time runs out anyways

HOPEFULLY THEY DON'T GIVE LAMAR MILLER A STARTING JOB GOING INTO NEXT YEAR..THIS GUY IS A AVERAGE THIRD DOWN BACK..AND HE'S STARTING..HE ALWAYS LEAVES RUNS ON THE FIELD ALWAYS IS A YARD SHORT..DOESN'T KNOW WHERE THE FIRST DOWN MARKERS AT? RUNS WITH NO URGENCY..A THIRD ROUND PICK FOR A REASON..J.MARTIN AND MILLER FELL FOR A REASON..BUT WE WERE DUMB ENOUGH TO PLUCK THEM UP!

man luck going backwards, looks awful this year

True; but then we are talking about the underthrow as opposed to our $60 million guy who caught the ball. Fact is the ball was there and he turned the wrong way first and then adjusted and if he caught it then that's less on him.

superphin, so true. if they weren't going to punt, they should have gone for the 4th and 2 rather than try a VERY LOW percentage field goal, especially with sturgis kicking. game-changing decision.

Some of you really need to stop sticking up for Tannehill. We know he has no running game and OL isn't that beat although pass blocking has been better as of late. His 3rd down conversion rate is one of the worst, can't throw a deep ball to save his life just horribly inaccurate, dink and dunk all game! He's horrible money time have been since college! He's serviceable at best nothing special never will be.

I propose we draft Aaron Murray in the first roun next year hopefully he"ll fall in the draft since the Bulldogs had a horrible season. This is guy is a true QB with poket presence and has been playing te QB position his whole life unlike THill. Murray had tremendous arm strengths and speciality is the long ball. I really hope he falls but I doubt Ireland pick him lets just hope he's fired after the season.

no duty is f he catches it I think he could reach over the line and break the plain

My man Philbin gave an inspired half time speech off of note cards. He heaped praise on the opposing team during his press conference. Philbin uses the Ireland acorns to the best of his abilities. I love them both because they work for few shekels.

should of punted austin

truth most say second rd for him

Meanwhile reports are that Daniel Thomas is on crutches.
Posted by: Orlando Dophan | November 24, 2013 at 05:06 PM

That has to be a plus for the team. He's the worst.

IF WALLACE MAKES THAT CATCH ..HE WOULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED AT THE ONE..HE WASN'T GONNA SCORE..ONE THING ABOUT THE PANTHERS DEFENDERS THEY PLAY UNTIL THE WHISTLE BLOWS DON'T GIVE UP NO EASY TD'S..

NEED A ORGANIZATIONAL ENEMA!!!

It's getting tough to watch this. Our biggest problem is coaching. This team has no killer instinct, refuses to take advantage of other teams mistakes and does not play with urgency. That is all on the coaching. When the game is on the line they wait for someone to make a play, instead of doing it themselves. The coaching staff has no idea how to work with the talent they have. Each week they are un prepared, lack the ability to adjust in the second half, and cannot get this team fired up. Im sure coach Philbin is a man of character, and a great mind, but he cannot lead the men on the team, he is better suited to be a coordinator.
Tannehill also unfortunately is not the guy, he simply cannot hit a deep ball properly, it's consistently under thrown or over thrown. This is the NFL, if you can't hit wide open receivers deep then you don't belong out there.
I wanted to believe in coach Philbin and Tannehill, but they just aren't the guys. We need to hit reset once again, and hope we get the right coach and find a better qb.

Watching this team play hurts! This team would be sooooo much better if they had a better QB. A clutch QB. The Ireland era is finally fading away.

THERE'S ACTUALLY MORE TO BE POSITIVE ABOUT THAN NEGATIVE:

1. Still one of youngest teams in the league.
2. 4 of 6 losses by total of 12 POINTS.
3. With slightly more talent and experience 9-2.

I don't see a team in need of serious overhaul. Just slightly more talent in the right places, and little more experience. Also see Tannehill/Wallace growing a little better with the DEEP CONNECTIONS next season.

Just that with so many CLOSE GAMES, everything looks greater than it really is under such a small microscope.

Whaaat dusty? You have a short memory. Carpenter was money until a bad 2012. Kickers are like pitchers....they go thru slumps. Sturgis started out good....1st couple of games and hasn't made a long FG since. But as far as coaching, you ask him to make a 50 yd FG? Huh? WTF?
