Ross requests review to put everyone on notice

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross over the weekend called NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and asked for help in the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito work place misconduct scandal.

"Our owner Steve Ross, who had been involved throughout the entire process, contacted the commissioner, Roger Goodell, and requested the NFL become involved and conduct a review of the work place," coach Joe Philbin said.

This is important.

First it contradicts the narrative that Ross is an absentee owner. But that's inside baseball stuff that ultimately doesn't matter. No, what makes this significant is Ross wants a thorough and unbiased review that he might not otherwise get if the Dolphins did the review internally.

(Frankly, the Dolphins probably aren't as well equipped to do this review as the NFL. Philbin is a football coach not an attorney. General Manager Jeff reland is a personnel man not an attorney.)

Ross is apparently aware that everyone he deals with in Dolphins football leadership -- Philbin, Ireland, and executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte -- have agendas. That agenda is quite obviously keeping one's job.

And so, Ross understands if any of these folks were heading the internal review, their agendas might seep into that review. Ross instead wants a review that is free of self-defense by any of his employees. He wants the unvarnished truth of what is right or wrong within the Dolphins work place.

And the reason he wants it is key:

Jobs are indeed on the line.

Ross is prepared to use the review to make career decisions on various people within the organization if they are found wanting by the review. Ross is prepared to make changes. And that means more than just Richie Incognito or Jonathan Martin are in the crosshairs.

So this NFL review, requested at the highest levels by the Dolphins owner, has put everyone on notice.

MANDO ARE YOU ON NOTICE ALSO?

No Evidence

It's about time. Ross should've reviewed those clowns years ago.

Over 45 years following, dying and crying with and for this team. NEVER have I been more ashamed of saying I am a Dolphins fan. The Dolphins of the 70's were the franchise others copied. The Shula lead Dolphins were the hallmark of franchises. We used to be the #2 franchise in worth.
Organizations that allow this type of activity are the organizations that are perennial losers. Do you think that this crap went on in Dallas, SF, Pitt, GB, or NE during their glory years???
If Incognito must go....and he must....then so does Martin. You do not walk out on your team...PERIOD!! Then we must go a step further. The ENTIRE MGMT of the team must go also. From Ireland to the damn ball boys!! This happened on there watch and for that reason they are derelict in there duty to Mr. Ross. CLEAN HOUSE NOW!!

marino is new president. cowher is new head coach and gm. clean house!!!

Bill @ 6:44

Bill you are correct 100%.

We need:
New GM
New HC
New OC
New QB

We need to hire the Florida gators head coach, he is easy on the eyes!

Marino quit on us once before. So forget him. Cowher is comfy with his one day per week job.....remember JJ and Parcells.....forget Cowher.
However it is time to CLEAN HOUSE MID SEASON!!!

scott @ 6:45

Yeah Right - Cowher is going to work for Marino. If Cowher were coaching Phins in 90s then Marino would have been benched by 94 or 95.

ETF....leave Tannehill alone. He has no help whatsoever! But the rest of your post 100% agree!

CHAD NOODLEARM PENNINGTON TO LEAD INVESTIGATION

@AbramsonPBP:" Dolphins players backed Richie Incognito. Many of them seemed upset that he is gone and they don't seem to think it was warranted."
Players backing Incognito? Pouncey, Shelby, Grimes, Ellerbee, Wake, and other rookies saying that they were never forced to pay anything if they didn't want to.

THIS IS COMING FROM PLAYERS ON THE TEAM, NOT BLOGGERS WHO HAVE NO CLUE WTF IS GOING ON!!!! THE PLAYERS SUPPORT INCOGNITO!!

finally!!!!! thank u martin. this could be the one possible way ross finally gets rid of ireland

ETF Marino had some of his best years from 94 to 98?? Lets keep it real bro.....Marino was a HOF QB....however he did quit on us 3 weeks after taking the job back in 2004.

I would argue with your description of Ireland being a "personnel man." He's just a clueless dope.

@BenVolin: Interesting that all of the player comments from the #Dolphins locker room are very supportive of Incognito." Check @AbramsonPBP timeline

AGAIN, THE ACTUAL PLAYERS SUPPORT INCOGNITO!!

Good. Time for philbean and irescum to hit the road. But in doing so that might leave Sherman, if his job is spared to become head coach, which is a huge mistake. Bad situation all away around. Lose Lose.

Bobbyd12 you and Mrs Incognito, his Mom, are the only people supporting lil Richie.....he is a PUNK...he prays on the weak. That is the definition of a rasist PUNK!
You're on the wrong side here Bobbyd

And apparently I also Pound Salguero.

Boy this is the most work he has done in months. And it just so happens it is something negative on the Fins. Who would've thought?

The Coaches and the Front Office are fine. Ross is just making sure he has everything covered for the lawsuit.

If Martin really wants to play Football he would be joining this team tomorrow instead of suing it. The problem is no longer on the team. He has no excuse to be away from the team.

The Ball is in J.Martin's Court. Does he really love football?

I support Incognito as well. I am starting to believe that Martin is just a super weird guy that has severe mental issues and just snapped from all his adversity. The texts and voicemails seemed like good natured ribbing to me. Martin screwed himself, another player and his team.

A step in the right direction, Mr. Ross. If it means cutting down the entire tree, it may be time to replant.

Folks the team didn't suspend the 2nd best OL they have just to suspend somebody. The texts and threats must be worse then we are being told. I will side with what is right and just. He made threats. He made racist statemnts. He "shook down" a player for money. That's enough for me.

It was Philbin who ordered the Code Red!

About time that the clueless owner makes a serious move. He wants public funds for his private stadium. No way he sees a penny while his franchise is an embarrassment and league joke.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!!! BREAKING NEWS!!!!

OFFICIALLY RICHIE INCOGNITO HAS JUST BEEN RELEASED BY THE MIAMI DOLPHINS, NFL NET. THE SOURCE!!

A private stadium that brings in more tax revenue to Fla/Miami in 1 game then you will in your lifetime. Please don't make stupid statements unless you understand economics.

Bill Arnsbarger, unlike you jackoff, I actually find good sources. I just gave you two dummy.
GRIMES, WAKE, SHELBY, ELLERBEE, POUNCEY, ODRICK HAVE ALL COME OUT IN INTERVIEWS BACKING INCOGNITO. GO STICK YOU HEAD BACK UP YOUR DIRT ROAD CAVITY IF YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH.

Not ONE Dolphin player has come out in defense of MARTIN. NOT ONE.

Armando -

Do you get the sense that Ross is starting to see Ireland in a different light? For so long it's like Ireland was made of teflon. But another year of mediocre play after an off-season of hundreds of millions of dollars being spent and now you've got a situation under Ireland's watch that has certainly damaged the brand.

Do you see some of that confidence eroding?

Bill your thoughts?

I told you and several others that Honey Suckle had indeed involved his family/Lawyers as I heard it from Mortenson on ESPN whose a viable NFL INSIDER (NFL Network also didn't dismiss it quite as easily as Mando's Sunday post) The tweets Mando put up on Sunday confirm for us all that his "SOURCE" was Incognito himself! From what I gather there was a point were they discussed with Honey Suckle the idea of Hazing and leaving it at that but his parents/Lawyers saw it otherwise. The real victims here are the team themselves with lies flying back-n-forth and us the fans!

Philbin now claims he knew nothing, "A FLAT OUT LIE" given I heard on ESPN Radio that he and Ireland screened every episode of HARD-KNOCKS before airing and Philbin today was caught in a lie saying he had NEVER witnessed an episode, WOW! There now calling Javorskie Lane whom as we all know was NICKNAMED Butter Ball and if that was maybe the opening for the hazing/Bullying under Philbin given he was apparently given horrible grief over it (How STUPID/RIDICULOUS is this getting)

I heard there was also a call to Ankle Weights Wallace with the intention of proving this was condoned under Philbin, again WOW! (Philbin was caught in a FLAT out lie because again he approved every episode of HARD-KNOCKS) The extortion bit will go nowhere it's been the OLD SCHOOL NFL way of treating Rookies. Back in 98 Junior Seau took the Credit Card of then Rook Ryan Leaf and racked up an 89K bill saying the rooks pay. The difference everybody disliked Leaf but give it time with Honey Suckle because he will go down as one of the most hated given this Lawsuit coming will change Locker Rooms forever!

This "AS THE WORLD TURNS EPISODE" now has Cogs Family talking about how he was BULLIED by being called LARD A S S while in H.S. The whole thing growing and getting bigger as it goes. Martin's parents are going to Sue the NFL and the Dolphins. This whole thing will grow HUGE before it's over and from now on I trust the League sources rather than go back and read Mando's Sunday post on the matter given that this thing has the chance to change the landscape of the entire NFL as we know it and apparently Honey Suckle has NO PROBLEM blowing up his career to prove his point!

F4L.....next breaking news we need to see is:

J Martin cut from Dolphins
J Ireland resigns
Philbin and entire staff fired

All effective immediately!

Bobbyd12 get lost. I don't converse with children that use name calling because they have no facts. Again your the only person supporting Cogs the racist bully. Do you want me to find thousands and millions of people that say Hitler was good??? Your too immature to comprehend!

F4L @ 7:05 good fact based theory. Im sure the Dolphins will settle this with Martin. I don't believe he will ever wear a Dolphins uniform again and may not wear any team uniform again.

You see, Bobby12, you and your ilk are all a part of the problem with the Dolphins perpetual decline.

Thankfully, maybe now the inmates won't be running the asylum anymore and we can rebuild this franchise the way it need to be.

F4L.....next breaking news we need to see is:

J Martin cut from Dolphins
J Ireland resigns
Philbin and entire staff fired

All effective immediately!

I believe the STUPID LIE Philbin was caught in will cost him dearly as Boss Ross looks to distance hinmself and his handsome Off-Season investment from it all!

I wonder though "IF" this will finally be the nail in Ireland's Coffin?

I hope it is a fair and honest investigation - not a review to 'protect' the team or the league.

In short, let the truth come out.

What did phill in and Ireland know and when did they know it. Was there extortion of money? How much money did rookies have to pay vets? And so on.

The Dolphins need to waive Cogs. They may need to settle with Martin.

I know I'll get grief for this but........... Cowher and Marino were looking awful chummy on the boardcast this weekend...........

Ireland is a glorified ball boy from the Parcell days. google it. he is not qualified.

Come on Bill Arnsbarger. You talk stoopid and tell me I'm on the wrong side . Well my SIDE is the ACTUAL PLAYERS on the Dolphins, not some dude on a blog.

Asjoerobbiecries, blow me. I bet you are one of these jackoffs who hasn't gone to a game in 10 years. I can care less what bozos like you think.

======================================================
Preach it brother. The trouble with most of these people are they played in band or attended chess club in school. They have no idea what football really is.

Part of me wants to believe that Ross is doing the right thing because he has some class and knows an thorough investigation is in order. Unfortunatley, the other part of me beleives that Ross has no choice because he already has a huge PR nightmare on this hands and he has to save face. Probably a combination of both. He couldn't see this football team for a nickel right now.

Regardless of what he does or doesn't find through the investigation, the right thing is to clean house. It likely won't happen until after the season because the FIns are 4-4, not 0-8. Either way, if Ross has any common sense he should know that the right thing to do is provide a completely fresh approach to the organization and rid the fans of the FO and coaching trash that we have now. The majority probably won't accept anything less

This may help to explain why a team with our amount of talent....(we can beat Indy and Cinn..... plays down to Bills and Ravens)has a 4-4 record. The Jets and Bills are better than us as we speak....yet they don't have the talent on there roster that we do???

CLEAN HOUSE NOW MR. ROSS!!

F4L @ 7:05 good fact based theory. Im sure the Dolphins will settle this with Martin. I don't believe he will ever wear a Dolphins uniform again and may not wear any team uniform again.

I don't believe he'll ever wear an NFL Uniform again, period! I read were he had a Harvard Graduate oping for him waiting (Now wonder if parents didn't take care of that for him as well) and figure Honey Suckle left and took this action fully aware of it's implications. What a PUNK!

I think the biggest point here is that the locker rooms, training rooms, camps, sidelines, games, etc. are work places, and need to be treated as such. The NFL has a Code of Conduct that should be adhered to by players and enforced by veterans and their coaching staff, all the way up and down the organization.

Incognito reminds me of "Blaster" from Mad Max Thunderdome. He's like a 12-year old with a giant body, and has never been properly held accountable for his actions.

This BS of hazing is something for the history books, and the culture of football (all pro sports for that matter) needs to catch up to society. That means no more bullying, hazing, homophobia, or fervent outward praying or other religious BS. If you can't do it in your office work place, you shouldn't be doing it differently if you're an athlete.

This Martin-Cogs situation is good for this 2013 dolphins and its gonna be great for the 2014 Dolphins.

I dont know if We need new GM and HC but this situation is making Ross to know it.

.yet they don't have the talent on there roster that we do???

CLEAN HOUSE NOW MR. ROSS!!

A G R E E D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lil Bobbyd12 last post to you.....

NOT ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS HAVE SUPPORTED COGS SINCE THE ACTUAL TEXTS CAME OUT!!!!!!

Now go to bed lil boy with your lies. Calling people names shows how immature you are lil boy....Im gonna have to wash your mouth out with SOAP!!

I live in Bills country. You know what? Their coach is pure class- he calls it the way he sees it, and he sugarcoats NOTHING! I am pretty sure he would never let the Miami situation happen. Sadly, the Bills may be 3-6 but are headed in the right direction, and .... ugh... even the Jets.

Not sure where the Dolphins are headed anymore.

If the Dolphins do fire Philbin (which I'm not advocating - he is only 2 games under .500 without a franchise QB) - we need to stop focusing on has-been coaches and hire a young, hungry coach. I'm tired of these old re-treads. Get someone young in here who can relate to the payers.

Both Martin and Incognito need to go.

mando's having multiple orgasm's daily now.

Incognito reminds me of "Blaster" from Mad Max Thunderdome. He's like a 12-year old with a giant body, and has never been properly held accountable for his actions.

You mean Lord Humongous,Warrior of the Waste land, The Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rolla!

Not sure where the Dolphins are headed anymore.

----------------------------------------------

My friend, they're headed right down the toilet…..

So we all hope.

I like Martin, but if he's not back this same week to fight for his team; his values and his fans against Tampa he's done in Miami.

This mess is a turning point in his NFL career. He can either turn the whole situation into emotional fuel to become a seasoned starter while playing for love to his fans, fellow rookies and team. Or he can just turn his back on all of us when we need him the most.

What we don't have is time to think about it.

Tell me about it after Doug Marrone gets fired. The Bills will be the 1st Canadian NFL team the way things are going and unless he wins a S.B. (NOT LIKELY) they will be the Toronto, Winnipeg, Ontario or B.C. Bills before they're anything else.

That is an ambiguous heading, Armando. Who is going to put every one on notice, the NFL, Ross? What do you mean "on notice", fire them, warn them? Is any one in the Org on notice now? Shame.

They should have waited for the NFL investigation to take place and finish before suspending Incognito. Martin has already claimed he will not return to the Dolphins while Incognito has only demanded a full investigation and total disclosure rather than accusations and slander.

I find the word "expletive" more offensive than whatever the real curse word is.

This is an (Expletive) Blog, with (Expletive) news about the dolphins.

See what I am saying.

Incognito is a racist bully who has allowed 6 sacks this season while mocking Martin in public for training.

Fin4life- Not sure if you noticed, but Bills fans support their team through the best and worst times. I'm a Fins fan and right now I am really having trouble finding anything redeeming to support my team. Which might explain why the stadium is half empty on Sunday. I wouldn't know the Bills. They may be a struggling small market team with an ancient owner (that is their real problem), but they intend to stay in Buffalo. Their fans support the team, unlike South Florida's fickle fans. And Marrone is a players coach. His guys love him. PHilibin loses more and more respect every day, and I'm sure that goes for some of the guys in the lockeroom. I know it's convenenient to find flaws with other NFL teams, but right now there is no greater embarrasment than the Miami Dolphins organization. Something needs to be done about it.
