ESPN, CBS double down on Incognito as bully

Following a statement from the Dolphins that rejects the notion there is any bullying going on within the Dolphins and specifically the offensive line and a twitter barrage by guard Richie Incognito against ESPN, there is now return fire from media giant.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports the reason Jonathan Martin has not formally complained to the team about Richie Incognito allegedly bullying him is because he's afraid of retribution from his teammate.

From PFT: "Shefter detailed a situation in which Martin was intimidated by Incognito to contribute $15,000 toward a trip to Las Vegas by the team’s offensive lineman.  Martin, according to Schefter, didn’t want to go and ultimately didn’t go — but he surrendered the money anyway.

If true, it’s the really rich guy example of someone stealing someone else’s lunch money.

Schefter also explained that there are text messages and at least one voice message proving harassment and justifying Martin’s fears for retribution.  Schefter added that Martin’s recent comments to Incognito explaining that Martin doesn’t blame his teammates for harassment also arose from concerns by Martin that he’ll face retaliation if he accuses Incognito of doing anything wrong."

Meanwhile, over at CBS, Jason LaCanfora paints an ugly picture of Incognito. He says La Canfora Incognito likes to intentionally walk into people, make "others feel uncomfortable and make threatening remarks" to Martin.

Ok, Salguero time out.

Let's be clear here:

This is a very complex and multi-layered story. There are multiple sides serving as sources.

There is the Martin side (which includes his agent). There is the Dolphins side (which is outlined in their statement). There is the Incognito side (which he has made clear through his twitter defense). All of these have a public side. All of these are also putting information out to the media as sources. All of them.

And somewhere in all of this is, well, the truth.

You cannot believe everything coming from the team because it has an agenda -- to protect its own interests with the least possible damage to itself. You cannot believe everything coming from the Martin side because it has an agenda -- to protect the player, get him back into the locker room, while also making Incognito stop whatever alleged actions he's been undertaking. You cannot believe everything coming from Incognito's side because he has an agenda -- to remove the focus from his as a bully, to deny the allegations, and protect his name.

All of them have agendas. All of them.

All of them are speaking to the media either directly or as sources.

And as they all have different agendas, you are getting different stories.

So what's my point?

This is a mess.

The Dolphins attempt at covering up the bullying is atrocious and inexcusable.

New blog up

Yea, that's newsworthy. A 5th string QB throws a ball into Sean Smiths numbers and he catches it. Dumb as a rock sam

As a Dolphin fan going back to the inaugural season, this is despicable. If the Vegas story is true, it's beyond inexcusable. Would any of you tolerate one of your coworkers shaking you down for a huge chunk of change for something you refuse to participate in? Maybe even something that goes against your core value and beliefs. Of course you wouldn't. But somehow it's acceptable to you in this particular situation. Incognito is a POS poison. Always has been, always will be. Did you forget the endless barrage of pathetic behavior with the Rams? Like getting into fights with the coaching staff. Or head butting opposing players in games. In four years with the Rams from 2006 to 2009, Incognito drew 38 penalties, including seven unnecessary roughness calls, more than any other player during that span. Or how Incognito was voted the second-dirtiest player in the NFL...by his peers. If that's not enough, you can go all the way back to when he got kicked off Nebraska’s football team.

He is a poison.

Want to know what Incognito is REALLY like in the locker room? Here's a minor glimpse;

WTF is Philbin in all this? Get ahold of your damn team and take care of this situation u non ass leader. If there was bullying or intimadation, then get your hands dirty and clear it up, either by suspending the players involved or cutting there ass. But my god act like a leader. What is wrong with this team? Drama after drama, just play good football and do what your paid to do. Fu*^king children

Wow. I've been a Dolphins fan for 40 years and this is the worst I've seen it. Pouncey supporting Hernandez (and doing who knows what else with the guy), thug veterans initimidating rookies, and me-first attitudes (Wallace) permeating the locker room. This team is ghetto.

This team isn't going anywhere. 6 wins maybe. Too much drama. Maybe these losers are taking their frustrations on themselves. Why doesn't Incogwhatever harass Cam Wake?

This is just the beginning. The NFLPA is trying to straddle the fence with both JM and Cogs. Like Armando said in the piece the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

The media machine is just starting to push this story. With us playing on MNF next week you know ESPN will beat this story to death. FOX sports "broke" it and now Beasley with the Herald and his crock of making a rookie pay 30k alone. Seems our rookie DB refuted that crap and said the bill was split. This has is muckraking at it's best. Yellow "journalism" at it finest.

I'm guessing we've all been in situations at a new work site where "dues" have to be paid to move on to the next level and assimilate. Sure, it's nothing like a locker room environment but each situation has it's own dues.

Sports is based on intimidation and psychological and mental toughness more than physical ability. Maybe the NFL will do us a favor and sweep it under the rug like they did for Belicheat and Spygate. But I highly doubt it.

I really wanted to respond profoundly here. But when I think back to high school and even college - to the sheer number of bullies, sociopaths and god-complexed athletes...

I hope Martin gets help if he needs it. And for his teammates...maybe you guys should be more concerned about your careers than who pays for dinners or Vegas trips.

There is a reason a stereotype exists about athletes. And the one's that the stereotype does not apply to should be reigning in those for whom it does.

I AGREE WITH LARS F ..K MARTIN !! YOU ARE A MILLIONAIRE NFL PLAYER WHO HASN'T DONE SH.T THS YEAR EXCEPT GIVE UP SACKS "AT YOUR NATURAL POSITION". YOU CAN'T TAKE A PRANK OR SOMEONE GETTING IN YOUR FACE. GTFOH "PUNK ASS" NO WONDER YOU GET BULL RUSHED YOU ARE WEAK!! LOOK I'M NOT MAKING EXCUSES FOR RI OR BULLYING I'M JUST NOT GOING TO FEEL SORRY FOR A YOUNG, SPOILED ASS GUY WHO IS LIVING A DREAM THAT A LOT OF YOUNG MEN WHO GOT CUT WOULD LOVE TO HAVE. "F YOU MARTIN AND F..K YOU IRELAND FOR NOT LOOKING INTO HIS BACKGROUND BUT WORRIED IF DEZ BRYANT MOM WAS A "HO" OR MARSHALL 'S OFF FIELD OR CHAD JOHNSON'S STUPIDITY. YES THEY DESERVE TO BE CUT AND SO DOES A BABY ASS OT!! HAD YOU MADE THE ALBERT TRADE WE WOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM!! YES WE WOULD! MARTIN IS A PUNK!! SORRY GUYS BUT DIDN'T WE JUST BEAT BENGALS!

Sounds just like a union Shop. The old farts sit on their butts at twice the wage while the new guys foot the bill/ or do most of the work. Oh it is union.?? Go figure. Screw the nfl.

Someone called out Tanny to be a leader. I'd say this falls squarely on the HC. He gets the credit when they win, and should have seen this last year. After so many years with the Packers, surely he must have some knowledge about this sort of thing?

Frankly, I'm tired of his Obama-like "we'll get to the bottom of this" crap.
"We'll fix it."
Yeah, right.

I want to see them in the Octagon to settle their differences.

Incognito was cut loose by Nebraska for a variety of reasons including assault charges. Cut from the Rams for being a loose cannon. The Bills declined to resign him even though he was a restricted free agent. None of this should shock anyone. He assaulted someone over the summer. If you told me he beats women or puppies, that wouldn't shock me either. Martin has every reason to fear retribution. And even if Martin could beat him to a pulp, the difference is that Incognito has a reputation of a psychopath and who knows what he's capable of.

Incognito is a douche. All the STAR players on this team that let this stuff happen should be tossed for not having the balls to tell this idiot to pay for his own stuff.

No way this happens in the Marino days..

Assuming that the bullying may have taken place I feel sorry for those of you that are placing the blame on Martin, telling him to grow up, man up, whatever you want to call it. That isn't the way to handle bullies. There is a culture in the NFL that needs to change that encourages bullies and I don't find it attractive. Just because they participate in a violent sport doesn't mean they have to act like children.

The players (and those of you calling Martin names) are the problem. Maybe leaving the team like he did wasn't the best solution but we don't know the whole story so we can say. He did what he felt was best.

Instead of calling him names maybe you should look in the mirror and think about the last time you bullied someone. Based on some of the comments I suspect you do it more often than you think. What you are doing is bullying although I know you don't think so.

I really don't know the exact circumstances that lead to his leaving but I do know that some of you are pathetic.

Incognito has a history of being a sleaze bag! He was on many teams DNDC lists!
For all you scumbag trolls, that means "Do Not Draft because of Character problems".

Colts, Pats are just a couple of team that passed on this fat loser. Bullys are cowards deep down! Incognito will lie his tail off to save his already garbage like reputation.

Martin did the right thing. He didn't responded with violence or fighting back, he just left a bad situation.
