Dolphins America's team: For wrong reasons

In the last three days I've gotten calls and texts from former players and current players. I talked to people from coast to coast. I've turned on the TV and seen the Dolphins on every broadcast and cable station available.

The Dolphins are a hit!

They're national!

And it is terrible.

The Dolphins, you see, are a national story now for all the wrong reasons. The team's name? Sullied. Reputation? In the dumpster and on fire. The narrative? When is Joe Philbin being fired, when is Jeff Ireland being fired, when is Dawn Aponte losing her power, when is Stephen Ross selling?

By the way, speaking of Ross. He lives in New York City. You know what he had with his morning coffee if he picked up the New York Daily News today? A-hole

I present the back page of Friday's New York Daily News.

The Washingon Post, Los Angeles Times and New York Times have written stories localizing the current Dolphins scandal. The New York Post and Daily News both sent reporters to South Florida to cover the story. One Post columnist told me Thursday, "My newspaper can't get enough of this story."

And the problem with that for you and the Dolphins? People are laughing now. Not with you. Not with them. At them. At you for supporting them. (At me for covering them, by the way). The Dolphins an object of scorn and mocking.

None of this is graceful. None of it has a positive side.

The Dolphins are getting punked.

But don't get the idea that I think they're victims. They are not. Yes, the media is over the top and the attention is hysterical and overblown. But the Dolphins brought this plague upon themselves. It is of their own birthing.

They had Incognito in a position of team leadership. Leadership in the locker room and administration failed to see any signs of wrongdoing -- or at least that's the contention. Philbin? Offensive line coach Jim Turner? No idea? The personnel department was good with both Incognito and Martin on the team and actually counted heavily on both -- because, after all, Martin was supposed to protect quarterback Ryan Tannehill's blindside and Incognito was supposed to protect Martin and help him grow into the job. Really?  And Aponte, who edits Philbin's post-game locker room speeches meticulously but fails to remove that uncomfortable part where he's reading from an index card ... Why did she allow the public service announcement at Sun Life Stadium that educates fans on civility and behavior to star ... Incognito?

Look, the people within the Dolphins organization claiming complete ignorance of the apparent tension in Martin's mind over Incognito and others are either lying, which makes them complicit, or out of touch, which makes them incompetent.

Either way, it is grounds for dismissal.

The media didn't put Martin and Incognito in that locker room. The media's job is not to monitor the intimate relationships among teammates. Don't shoot the messenger even if the message gets too loud at times.

The Dolphins are a sad national joke now because the Dolphins put themselves there. That story about Incognito abusing a volunteer golf assistant at a team sponsored event? The team said it would handle the situation and the way it was handled was paying her to keep quiet. The National Football Post today reported Incognito called offensive line meetings at a strip club and fined players if they didn't show up. Sure, you can chalk this up to boys being boys, I guess, if you're a morally corrupt individual. But then you allow Incognito to be a member of the leadership council? You put him on the stadium HD screen preaching good behavior?

A coach, aware of Incognito's penchant for drinking and past drug use, overrides the player vote for leadership council. Joe Philbin this week hid behind it, saying it was players, not him who made Incognito a team leader.

(Note to coach: It's not a democracy. You know this. Did you forget in this one instance?)

Some fans see what's going on. And they've had enough. Fans have been writing to me and telling me they are through with the franchise. Others say they'll never buy a ticket again until major changes in leadership are enacted.

Consider that the Dolphins had 70,660 people at Sun Life Stadium for the season home opener. Then 68,342 for the second home game. Then 60,592 for the third home game. And 52,388 for the fourth home game. Notice the trend?

Fans were abandoning this team in droves before the current scandal. You think any part of the last week is going to convince them to return?

We've seen this kind of situation before. You'll recall the New England Patriots had this little scandal called Spygate. And their reputation suffered. You'll recall the New Orleans Saints had this little scandal called Bountygate. And their reputation suffered.

Both teams got slimed. Both teams forged ahead. Both teams mostly recovered.

But both those teams enjoyed a reservoir of goodwill the Dolphins don't possess. The Patriots had three Super Bowl wins in their pocket. The Saints also recently won a Lombardi trophy. The coaches and owners that presided over those franchises in the time of crisis were the same that presided over the franchise in the best of times. So they got a pass.

The Dolphins get no pass. Stephen Ross has not presided over one winning season during his four-and-one half seasons as owner. Jeff Ireland has not put together one winning team during his four-and-a-half years as GM. Joe Philbin's career record is 11-13.

Fans recognize this. Media recognize this. These facts are not in dispute.

None of this sewage sandwich that is the Incognito-Martin-NFL scandal is good for business or morale or reputation. All of it reeks. And now everyone on the Dolphins smells bad.

Monte is the best poster. Always cogent and astute and brings fresh thought to the blog.

Why is going to a strip club indicative of being morally corrupt?

Thanks Rizzo.

If prostitution was legal and affordable like in 90% of the nations worldwide, crime would go way down.

Cam Cleeland was a big man, checking in at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds. He thinks that the idea that somehow because Martin also is a big man and should have defended himself because of that fact is ridiculous.

"Any NFL player that gives Martin a hard time — I don't know him — but any guy who says, 'This guy should have been a tough guy, should have stood up to him,' it's BS," he said.

Cleeland actually was a teammate of Incognito when he was a rookie in 2005. The retired tight end does not paint a pretty picture of Incognito's character based on that season together.

"I'm not afraid to say that he was an immature, unrealistic scumbag," Cleeland said. "When it came down to it, he had no personality, he was a locker-room cancer, and he just wanted to fight everybody all the time. It was bizarre beyond belief."

Do you think it is coincidence Incognito has NEVER played for a winning team? He had been a cancer everywhere he's played. Miami is no different. At some point one has to at least entertain the idea he may have something to do with it. At least the coaches should have noticed the trend and should have put in question Incognito's "leadership" role within the team, and if they didn't it means they are just as inept as the useless front office that put together this bunch of underachievers.

And so the trashing of the brand will continue. On Monday night the entire nation will be pulling for the most disliked coach in his city, Schianno and his winless Bucs. A loss and things will go downhill very fast in Miami. I never had hoped for my team to lose but the truth is the longer it takes Ross to clean house the more damage he will do to the Phins brand. Besides no way the Phins make the playoffs, and all of these wins will be yet again meaningless.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that "IF" Richie harbored any resentment towards blacks that being "betrayed" by a friend and someone he considers a brother probably won't help the cause much.

Armando shows his true colors on this one. Instead of leading a Dolphin retaliation from a malicious attack from an internal deviate, he tries to placate the true Dolphin fans from believing what their own eyes and hearts see-- a putrid deceiver of his brethren.
"But don’t get the idea I think they’re victims. They are not.", he says. Victims are exactly what the entire Dolphin organization is at the hands of this swindler and his band of henchmen.

The survey says.....Inxognito is a SCUMBAG!!

I find your posts to be out of line.

You will be banned after I enjoy my weekend of doing work you wish you were doing.

Mandy has spoken!

Gay, gay, gay! It's now acceptable, fine, but you can't ignore it and no one has said it!

Chris Mosley, an assistant offensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins, has left the team, the Sun Sentinel has learned.

Also Friday, the National Football Post reported that, as a leader of the Dolphins’ offensive line, Incognito would hold meetings at a South Florida strip club and would fine players if they did not attend.

“Richie wanted to set up Richie’s world as a way for everybody to act,” the website quoted an unnamed source as saying. “Richie thinks everybody should act that way. He doesn’t get that some guys aren’t into that behavior. Some guys don’t want to constantly explain to their wife or girlfriend why they have to go to a strip club.”

How does this story garner more attention for the Dolphins than the Patriots endured for having a cold blooded murderer on their team? it is absolutely absurd, and the tipping point, the straw that broke the camels back? was the offensive line getting up as he sat down...... give me a break its all about Martin and money and the media and sensationalism.

Of Incognito, Pioli said to host Dan Patrick: 'If he's a leader in your locker room, then that's a problem."

Pioli, who was the Vice President of Player Personnel for the New England Patriots in 2005 when Incognito was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, also added that "I didn't want him coming out, and I don't want him now."

It's no wonder the line is so bad

Irescum is speechless?? WTF?

This entire 'Salem Witch Hunt' is the fabrication a devious, disgruntled, failing employee imploring the militant services of a biased media.

The more I hear about Richie the more I like him

Monte, 2 watt and Cadillac share the same toilet.
Monte is always the one wearing pink spandex , 2 watt wears poco dots and Cadillac
wears a mink coat from the finest rats in his house.

Never thought I would agree with Marc on anything but on this Incognito thing, he is 100% on target.

My post about how RI was baited into the situation with the 'virtuous lady' that tricked him into making an aggressive move toward her was dropped. I hope, if this one makes it through, that you can see my point.

Is it too much to ask for Notcognitiveito to send an e-mail to Suh's mother and tell him how he is going to beat the crap out of her if he ever sees her? See, that would show some real guts on Richie's part. An inflamed Suh and a guy who messses with women at team events, now that is an event you could maybe get about 50,000 to show up for in Miami Gardens. Wonder what the line would be on Suh-Incognito? Hell, I'll spot Incognito a 2 iron and a lead pipe to even things up.Does Richie have a "Significant Other", mymind conjures up some horrific images at that thought?

Did someone just mention Incognito having a significant other. That is one thing not to think about at 12:08AM. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm trying to visualize a Nebraska Homecoming Queen at this point but it ain't happening.

john gruden next head coach of the miami dolphins what about that armando pay close watch at gruden monday night...

BS for sure. All these tough liberal reporters reporting only what they want on line through a key pad. Dolphins blow out Tampa 45-3

Incognito = Racist Jackass

One thing that is really amazing to me, in this country, is how the ' freedom of speech' amendment has been manipulated by the press.
Obviously there is a pro liberal movement in this nation. For many reasons to vast to address, it is happening.
However that this right is being impressed in so many factions, it seems that the mainstream press (networks and cable) promote this agenda of liberalism.
Any opposition to this agenda is pushed to the sidelines( talk radio, late night TV, etc.or met with profuse reticule that has already been embedded into the minds of the public.
There are a lot of things about the conservative movement that I am not on board with, and these things are widely publicized, but I research them to get an accurate opinion.
My point in this digression is that, I think the public is being directed as to what to think by the media. The media should be unbiased and not directing;I do not think that is the case in our country.

Freedom of speech is not present here. My post got removed for saying lets do our own reporting on these world class reporters. That's as liberal as it can get, Oh wait when it affects them its a problem!!!

God this topic is boring.

What a shakedown in which the American public is being victimized, Lord help us.

reticule? Daytona, it's English your second Language?

On my part, now at night when I can say bad words, I never liked the fukkker, but that doesn't make him guilty. Thru my work in Psychiatry, and thru my teenage experiences growing up in the streets of Miami, I have created an aversion to these types of sociopathic fukks. Oh yes, they can be a lot of fun to hang around with, can even do some kind things at times, but they really don't care about you, or anything else. I don't trust them, and I despise them, for my own protection.

Armando.....guy, you're making yourself out to be a PANZY!

We realize yo're using this incident to grind your axe. We realize, MUCH LIKE MARTIN, you feel slighted. But c'mon Mando, where do reality and perspective come in..........?

Look, the people within the Dolphins organization claiming complete ignorance of the apparent tension in Martin's mind over Incognito and others are either lying, which makes them complicit, or out of touch, which makes them incompetent.

Either way, it is grounds for dismissal.

The only one making a case for dismissal is YOU Armando. How can anyone, let alone the Dolphin's Staff KNOW what's in Martin's mind?

Are they supposed to be mind readers now.........? WTF - Dude?

Many, MANY players have stated unequivocally that Martin and Cog's have been as "Thick as Thieves"(that's a quote from the PLAYERS ARMANDO, NOT ME).

So Armando, if they've been as thick as thieves, actually perpatrating pranks and hazings together, how is the staff expected to see any alleged problems?

Why haven't YOU ARMANDO, as a reporter sniffed any of this out? If it's supposedly so obvious Armando, how come you didn't have a clue?

PS: Armando, you're **TRUE COLORS** have shown through. You have blamed everyone in the Dolphin's organization for any and everything.

Yet, you've given Martin a CONMPLETE pass in letting his teammates down at the most important part of the season.....?

Hmmmmmmm........I suppose yo'll claim you have no axe......er.......AGENDA with all of this either?

ROTFLMAO - Actually, in this instance Armando, you're making yourself look pretty ignorant(sorry Man, seriously, but I have to call a spade a spade, Oouch).

Martin IS NOT the innocent bystander you're trying to make him out to be. The TRUTH will come out, the whole truth, and guys like you will have to answer to no one, as usualu. But we'll know Armando, we'll remember.

Philbin isn't going anywhere, not because of this inbred sissyTard Martin.

Mando will be getting even less table scraps than before when this is done nd over.

Where will we be getting our Dolphin News?

Mando will be begging an out of towner like Darlinton even MORE now, begging for table scraps.

That or start regurgitating the regulars even more and more.

Sorry Mando, but you've personally indicted EVERYONE within the organization, players included. You know what you have coming......?

Why don't you just come on out and admit you love the color Green and you've developed an inexplicable attraction to.........FEET.............any FEET. Big Feet, Little Feet, Clean Feet, Stinky Feet.........

Just Saying..........

I have a suggestion Armando........

Tampa played sme inspired ball last week.

So to did the Dolphin's.

"Our" playoffs have almost started Armando, can we get something about THAT......Jeez.......?

You know, this is a FOOTBALL TEAM and we do come here for FOOTBALL news(Hint, hint...Duh).

We are tired of talking about SissyTard and his late breaking, TRAITOROUS ADHD!

You told us it's extremely unlikely that he'll ever return to this team-THANK GOD!

That's all we needed to hear about the WHIMP(yeah, I said it!). So come on Armando, maybe just a tidbit or two about the Phins?

You know, BEFORE the "BOX" you out completely!

PS: You know it's going to happen too-LOL! You bet on the WRONG Pony - AGAIN-LOL!

Trying to get a hold on the "workplace bullying" thing. It looks like a greased pig to me. One person's "tough love" mentoring is another's harassment, etc.

Apparently there are no state or federal laws which specify conduct guidelines for adult bullying in the workplace. But there is a Workplace Bullying Institute (www.workplacebullying.org/‎) which can provide a definition. Good luck with that, though.

Not to minimize the problem but I'm old now and finished with the workplace- did my time with harassment, taunts, threats, humiliations, etc. So when I found another website (www.bullybusters.org) which sells bully-busting "tools", I couldn't help but think of JMart. My favorites were a button for Martin reading, "KEEP IT UP-I'm documenting everything"; and a t-shirt that all Miami coaches might be ordered to wear as a result of the NFL review: "Bullying Scares Away Talent".

Philbin knew everything while Obama knew nothing ...

Spygate was a scandal about cheating. Cheating is common enough in sports and when caught, is dealt with.

Harassment/bullying is different. We all know it goes on, from grade school on up. And in many cases it's tolerated. This story is so much bigger than cheating and it resonates with everyone who has been bullied in their life - in school, in the neighborhood, in their job.

This is way different than spygate. And, unfortunately for the Dolphins, it needs to be examined and the Phins are the catalyst for the discussion.

It dawned on me what this is really about. Martin is not making as much as these veterans because of the rookie pay scale and he like most society under Obama are wanting a free ride.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that

The only humiliating thing about this is that we drafted this guy in the second round when TY Hilton, a local guy, should have been taken. The rest of you go pack to The View and Oprah.

I have been a Miami Dolphin fan since it's inaugural season in 1966. I have supported them in good times and bad, regarding success on the field and wins and losses. But I am embarrassed now as never before. For the first time in my adult life I am ashamed of MY team. Yes they are my team. Mine, yours, and all the loyal fans who have supported and cheered them thru the years. I personally was a fan before any player on the current team was even born. This is my team. My passion. Every year I tell my wife "this is going to be our year, you'll see" She says compassionately "I know dear". I said it again this year as I always do. And then this. I can live with poor performance and failed expectations on the field because I am ever hopeful they will better themselves, they will improve, they will make me proud. Today I am not proud. My Dolphins are a laughing stock. I am going out now to do errands and will be donning my Dolphins cap as I always do. But I will leave the jersey in the closet. No nedd to attract any more attention.

Did Coach Shula call Manny Fernandez a bully when he put a live gator in Shula's shower? Just wondering.

There's no such thing as bad marketing.

Armando, I have read your blog loyaly for years but never posted. I find it totally out of line for you to call for people to lose their jobs when you dont have all the facts. Im sorry you have taken my comments so personal.I am a life long hard core Fins fan living in the Boston area life is tough enough and am sicken by all the rumors and circus atmisphere surronding a team that is trying to find its way. you critsize Philbin for allowing Cogs to be voted to a leadership counsul but Wasn't incognito given the good guy award by the local media ? There is plenty of blame to go around here. I think you used bad jugment calling for people to lose their jobs THATS NOT YOUR JOB! Your job is to give us information on our team not to dictate it's direction or policies. I have never posted before because i find the negativity on this blog at times to be overwhelming. I'm so pissed that i think ive gotten caught uo in it too. I wish when you posted that blog yesterday you would have engaged in the conversation. I fond it irresponsablle and out of line and you can tell just how much it has offened me and many others. I will keep my cool and if you wish to ban me me from this blog that's your call. I just hope you could be more fair and imparital going forward. I enjoyed reading this blog over the years.
