Live blog: OL in shambles, Patterson active

The Dolphins offensive line -- the source of off and onfield issues this season -- is the focus again today.

The Dolphins staring offensive line versus the San Diego Chargers will be: LT Bryant McKinnei, LG Sam Brenner, C Nate Garner, RG John Jerry, and RT Tyson Clabo.

Garner, who played left guard the previous two games, moves over to center because Mike Pouncey is out. Brenner was added off the practice squad Saturday. He was an undrafted free agent who was with the team since training camp.

The amazing things?

Danny Watkins, a former first-round draft pick acquired nearly two months ago, is active but obviously not better (in the coaching staff's opinion) to start ahead of the rookie.

And Dallas Thomas, who was worked both tackle and guard since the start of the season, is active but also not considered better (in the coaching staff's eyes) to start ahead of the undrafted rookie. By the way, Thomas was a third-round draft pick.

The good news?

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson is active today but he is not starting.

There's a live blog today. It happens below:

First!

So let me get this straight: Some guy we picked up last Saturday is already better than a guy who's been here since the draft? And we spent a 3rd round pick on this guy? Really? Wow! Only in Miami.

I don't know what the game plan is today but Good luck Miami!

Assuming for the sake of argument that Jeff Ireland whiffed on Dallas Thomas as a third round pick, why bring it up? It's not like other GM's don't make bad picks. Plenty of starters in the 2013 draft class, such as the place kicker.

Tampa is going to win their second game in a row today. Greg Schiano gets a contract extension. LOL!

Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero

Sam Brenner, who was promoted from practice squad YESTERDAY will start at left guard.

I wonder if this signal's an official tanking of 2013?

Hey, we got a decent kicker out of our draft class. Now we're in business.

Geno Smith is taking a beating today against the Bills.

I don't know what the game plan is today but Good luck Miami!

Neither does Mike Sherman, Kevin Coyle, nor Joe Philbin.

Milliner just got burnt by that speedster rookie Graham...

Milliner and Cromartie just got smoked on back to back plays. TD Buffalo. Love it!

Jets coming back to earth big time.

That Bills LB Alonso should be named defensive rookie of the year. What a great pick.

Hey #1 Dolphin Fan,

Brenner was added to the ACTIVE roster on Saturday, FROM the practice squad. He has been on the roster since training camp. Mando CLEARLY stated this.

There is nothing worse than someone who twists the facts, regardless of the reason.

Dolphins practice squad rocks!

=======================================================
Now, that's funny!

The rout is on in Buffalo. The Jets are down by almost 4 touchdows..ha ha

dbmfins, my bad. So it makes it perfectly normal that some guy just ACTIVATED from the practice squad starts instead of our backups. Got cha. And just so you know, I don't keep track of the practice squad, there's usually a reason WHY they're on the practice squad. I'm not trying to twist facts you dumb chit. Thanks bro.

I would put the Dolphins practice squad far above any practice squad in the AFC East. And, yes, that includes the New England Patriots!

WhoTH is Sam Brenner?

NFL eyes Dolphins line coach Turner in bullying scandal ESPN.com reports...

oscar, Sam Brenner was on our practice squad. You didn't know that???

WhoTH is Sam Brenner?
Posted by: oscar canosa

I was thinking he might be Yul's son, but he spelled it Brynner.

Sam Brenner?? I hope he does well but we couldn't get our 3rd rd pick or Danny Watkins coached up enough to play? And again, why is Incognito suspended?

BTW, Wallace looks really hurt in warm ups. Dragging his leg and no burst off the line.

Man, Nick Foles is the real deal. Chip Kelly found his QB to run that offense.

Does that mean Wallace won't be dropping passes today? Mando's guy....

We'll see about the OL..it's not like they can much worse than the guys we've had on the field this year. It's not like we have a choice.

Bobby12, exactly. That was the point I was trying to make originally. Pretty sad that a former first round pick and our own 3rd round pick can't beat out a guy just activated from the PS. That says a lot about our depth doesn't it?

I know Watkins wasn't a Miami first round pick but still...Can't beat our a freakin PS player.

Okay there #1 Dolphin Fan,

Guess I'm the dumb chit for READING the post PROPERLY. I'm all for getting rid of Ireland, but like I said, twisting the facts is just plain ignorant! REGARDLESS OF THE REASON.

Don't be surprised if Tannehill ends up at the ER today.

Bobbyd12,

So he's healthy and ready to go, like the way he's been the rest of the season.

Geez only the Dolphins. Only 2 original starters on the o-line and one was previously benched and Jerry won his position by default.

We are in deep, deep doo doo. But what else is new.

dbmfins, I'll say this again so you understand. I DIDN'T KNOW this guy was on our PS. I don't care about our PS. I don't even know who's on our PS. I'M NOT TWISTING THE FACTS. I DIDN'T KNOW. Is that simple enough for you to understand now? And do you understand that it is NOT normal for a PS player to get activated and starting right away instead of our backups?? What the heck does that say about our backups?? That's the point I was trying to make.

yup rick

Dan Carpenter 3 for 3 in FG's for the Bills against the Jets.

Btw, Anyone notice how well a 3-7 team draws up in Buffalo? Hmm Loyalty and Fans, who knew?

What a waste of a pick Dallas Thomas was.

dbmfins,

Either way you slice it, it's a sad state of affairs if your 3rd rd pick can't outplay a guy on the practice squad. It's not the first game of the season.

nyfinfan, well said.

No booing, lots of cheering for the Fins.

From Yahoo Sports:

Two more Dolphins players are expected to tell an NFL-appointed investigator about behavior by suspended guard Richie Incognito that could be considered hostile, according to two sources.

The players do not want to be named for fear of further upsetting teammates who have publicly backed Incognito in the aftermath of teammate Jonathan Martin leaving the team. However, one of them may tell investigator Ted Wells of a threat of physical intimidation by Incognito. The other player may explain how Incognito requested relatively large sums of money from him for en-tertainment activities.

Can we all agree that NO GM in the NFL could have anticipated the injuries, illnesses and other problems in the Dolphins offensive line? And that Jeff Ireland can hardly be blamed for these issues.

All this hostility over the OL and PS and draft status. Who cares just PLAY!Lezbe friends.

We can all agree on this i think. Let's Go Fins!

Does anyone doubt that the dolphins will get trampled today? I feel like we're about to witness an execution of a friend

The Bills had their share of injuries as well, I think they were down to their 3rd string QB for a while. The fact that they have 4 wins is pretty impressive. That rookie coach Marrone has done a fine job, no doubt.

I'd take Marrone over Philbin all day, Montreal!

Believe it or no, as awul as this season has been for us, if this were the last game of the season, we would be playing for the final wildcard playoff spot.

Simply because the Jets will lose today.

Big Lawsuit

Lol IRA @3:59!

yes nyfin miami worst fans in nfl. pathetic seeing stadium empty but least it cements ireland being gone

Sam, hard to believe indeed.

Starting game with 1yd loss on run attempt.

another henne int

Crap team = Crap fans

Pretty decent protection on that pass to Hartline.

obviously not good, and D Thomas is beyond disappointing.....but we lost 2 OLineman at the same time (Incognito/Martin), and now Pouncey is sick today.....so lets be real.....Dallas Thomas aside, we're missing Olineman because of a bizarre situation, and an illness.....unusual to say the least.....they werent good before, I realize, but gotta consider the circumstances

rg 3 trying to comeback

I still think that Tannehill is the real deal. It is a shame that Ireland has not put a better offensive line around him. There is no telling how good this offense would be if they had a good offensive line.

sam i am balt winning, they would be in playoffs
