Pouncey on Jets game: 'I'll be out there'

Mike Pouncey missed the past two starts with what started as food poisoning, developed into some mysterious gallbladder issue and included a hospital stay. Well, it'll soon be time to get back to normal.

Pouncey practiced today at least on a limited basis and said he'll be in the starting lineup against the New York Jets Sunday.

"I' feel great," Pouncey said. "I'll be out there."

Pouncey, who looked extremely thin since his illness, said he has regained all of his weight. Pouncey had previously said he'd lost only five pounds. It looked like more than that. And he still looks on the thin side.

But sometimes you have to take a man at his word.

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson, who missed last week's game against Carolina with the season-long groin injury, worked at least on a limited basis in practice today.

The Dolphins signed defensive tackle A.J. Francis off the New England practice squad last night. If the name sounds familiar, it's because Francis was with the Dolphins during training camp. He was cut and picked up by the Patriots, who eventually put him on practice squad.

"It was tough going up to New England because it was tough learning the system on the fly," Francis said. "They're not teaching the system, they're preparing for a game. So you have to learn while they're going. It took me to be honest, a couple of weeks and closer to a month to be completely familiar with the system and get where I was down here."

Catching back up with the Dolphins should be hard for Francis. He said a couple of calls have changed but otherwise catching up was easy.

"I got the call yesterday morning, packed up my bags and studied my old notes on the flight for thre-and-a-half hours and I'm pretty much back to where I was when I left," he said.

WE THE MOST IGNORANT FAN BASE IN THE NFL ,JUST READ THE (( LOVE BOYS)) COMMENTS WHEN WE SIGNED OUR (( CORNED BEEF HC )),,,,,,,,,,,,

fred s who drafted martin. who drafted te after te and has failed. how did that work for colts,kc,zona, etc

How many of you wanted Cowher? It took him 13 years to win and that was all luck in getting Ben. What did he do next? Quit. And you think he will come here and make somehting happen fast?

Retarded.

edgar, without speaking for everyone else. i think before super bowl win we are least just wanting to get to being a solid franchise that gets to playoffs year most every year. lets get to that point first. id take cohwers results here easily

dusty we beat the colts. TE after TE didn't fail. Clay is coming on. Egnew too. Keller was a great pick up.

You like others are too impatient. Players need a few years to develop, with very few exceptions. If you are expecting half our picks to be pro bowlers you are on drugs.

Dusty your logic is dusty.

There is no magic bullet. If you never stick with a coaching staff you will never get anywhere.

Cowher would turn this team around in his 1st year. One of the best HC's ever.

Sigh,

We are top half in running average this year and have performed well in some games running the ball.

Its Sherman that gives up on the run very quickly as his running formation and static oline are easily shut down in the second half by almost everyone in the league.

Thill ran very well against the Panthers and looked more decisive on those efforts. I don't want him to smash his body as we have been shown in RG3 and the like, but timely scrambles with keep drives going and the D a little of balance.

egnew? now u lost me. ur just being sarcastic now

dusty,

Here is what you can't see. After three years of any new regime you will be right back where you are now hoping we lose so we can start over AGAIN.

sure be fun to find out mike wouldnt it

DUSTY,

WHEN LAST TIME YOU HAD LOVE ?

matt millen was the worst gm ever in my opinion

Well, its time Ross spent some money on a top GM and HC. Thats the only way this ever turns around. Heck, bing back Parcells if we cant get Cowher.

On Parcells........

When you analyze the contract Parcells got from Huzienga you come to the realization he NEVER intended to see the Re-Build to fruition and got in bed with Wayne to pump up the sales value of the team. As we all know he had it worded in his contract that "IF" the team were to be sold he could opt out of his deal "AT ANYTIME" while collecting the full amount of of his 16 Million Dollar contract. I suspect Wayne (a Golfing buddy of Parcells in the Off-Seasons) gave him the heads up and told him he'd collect the money which he desperately needed after being taken to the cleaners by his 3rd wife.

He would go on to recommend Mike Tannenbaum to Jets owner Woody Johnson while later endorsing Rex as H.C. all the while saddling Miami with a Scout with "ZERO" exp. in FRANCHISE BUILDING to one day over see the entire Org. and bringing in an OL Coach as his H.C. hire. I don't believe Parcells intended to Monkey wrench the team (PURPOSELY??) but it's obvious he didn't put a great deal of effort in his Miami Job while his heart is/was and always has been in N.Y. If you want to look at were this mess started look NO FURTHER than the FATMAN! He could have jumped head into his Re-Build project with Ross an owner he could have led by the nose, analyze these facts! They're irrefutable!!!

ALoco still runs the same schtick he has since Sporano was here. Get a few new lines douchebag. Anyone wanting to clean house with 5 games left in year two is an over-reactive teenage girl. Hey folks, Volkswagon just called...your Beetle is in.

PARCELLS TOOK 14 MILLION B/C HE DESERVE IT ....HE WAS THE REASON THIS EAM WAS SOLD TO ROSS .,AS THE CASE WHEN PATS WAS BOUGHT BY KRAFT .THE MAN ADD VALUE TO ANY TEAM HE JOINS ................

Hey didn't Matt Millen draft Megatron. Along with 27000 other WR's.

FIN4LIFE.....

Nice ignorant comment dummy. OL are notoriously some of the SMARTEST men on the field. With degrees in fields that you couldn't even begin to spell the names of. I'd argue OLmen have better "smarts" track records than QBs. The dumbest players on the field? DBs. Dumbest posters on this blog? Obvious.

Heck, bing back Parcells if we cant get Cowher.

Posted by: TGH | November 26, 2013 at 06:44 PM

On Cowher........

A "FIERY" Coach without a doubt but he had a ton of help in his H.C.'ing gig in Pitt. He had strong Ownership, the Rooney's in the NFL game since the late 50's were practically born into their jobs by Dad Art Sr. Dan oversees the finances while Art Jr. runs the Football Ops. They are one of the REAL GOLD STANDARDS as far as Ownership goes!

He always had a competitive group even though Dan doesn't like paying his FA's to stay for the Big Money. It wasn't a factor when hired in the late 80's because FA hadn't been ushered in yet but when it became rule of law in 93 nobody had more turnover than the Steelers who always seemed to have the replacement on the bench. Seems little Bro Art Jr. knows what he's doing and is one of the most astute evaluators of talent the game has seen. He gets little to no real fan fare for it but a true fan of the game knows this!

Cowher has also had some of the best Assistant Coaching staffs in League History! Ken Wisenhutt, Bruce Arians among his Offensive Coaches with the legendary Defensive Coach who needs no mention and is without question one of the greatest play callers and innovators at what he does in NFL History, Barr None!!

All this and Cowher nearly loses the 96 AFC Championship to the Colts and Jim "Capt. Comeback" Harbaugh and H.C. Ted Marchibroda with a seriously inferior team without recalling the loses Vs. the Chargers, so on and so on. If not for Big Ben tackling the Colts DB at Mid-Field in the 05 Playoffs they don't go to S.B. XL were the Refs jobbed the Seahawks with some of the worst calls and NO-Calls I've ever seen in a game of that magnitude. You guys NEED to stop and analyze the moving parts around Cowher at Pitt. when analyzing his achievements or lack there of.

No question Parcells knew what he was doing in his day. He was already done before he got here though. His heart just wasn't in it.

I believe he did a good job in training Ireland though, his personality just gets in the way and he doesn't have the pedigree to get respect.

Now I think we need to move on from Jeffy and clear the air.

If it were me I would consider promoting Brian Gaine and Nat Moore and see what a new season brings.

With the right re-signings, a couple of key free agents, a good draft and who knows.

It couldn't possible be any worse than the last few years.

Pouncey isnt the sharpest tool in the shed lol

People fail to give Ireland credit for some of his good picks. This defense is underperforming and that is on the coaches. The defense has been OK but it was expected to be a top 10 or top 5 unit.

Many of the people here slamming this rookie class were also wanting the Dolphins to get rid of Hartline, Clay, and Carroll last year. No way that you can judge this rookie class yet. This coaching staff makes rookies earn their playing time. That is why most of them are not playing right now.

Ireland missed on players like all GMs do. However, he has hit on a lot of mid to late round picks. Clay (6th round, Vernon (3rd), Carroll (6th), Clemmons (5th), Jones (5th), Hartline (4th), Misi (2nd), and Odrick (late 1st) are very good players. Jordan and Pouncey will be stars in this league and I believe that Tannehill will be a franchise QB when they get him the right protection.

I really think that this team is very close. With good coaching and a little luck this team could be 9-2. They have lost a lot of heart breaking losses. They just need to learn to win close games. Rebuild that offensive line and keep this team together and the fins will be contenders next year.

Under Cowher, the Steelers showed an immediate improvement from the disappointing 7–9 season the year before, going 11–5 and earning home field advantage in the AFC after the Steelers had missed the playoffs six times out of the previous seven years. In 1995, at age 38, he became the youngest coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl. Cowher is only the second coach in NFL history to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first six seasons as head coach, joining Pro Football Hall of Fame member Paul Brown.

In Cowher’s 15 seasons, the Steelers captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, played in 21 playoff games, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles. It has become an article of faith among NFL pundits that the Steelers do not have a bad team two years in a row – they have never lost 10 or more games in consecutive years since the 1970 NFL merger. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach.

carrol? clemons? misi in 2nd??? jordan he gave up 2 picks or albert and a pick

we know cowher is awesome but hes not gonna come here. he may never coach again

Misi is a very good LBer. So shut your face dusty.

Dolfan Rick | November 26, 2013 at 07:29 PM

If you read my 7:25 post you'll see were my thought process is. I would like to interview the Head of Scouting in Pitt. I'm not sure who holds the post but if he's tenured and has been with Art Rooney Jr. for over a decade it would seem a smart place to start. Your idea regarding Nat Moore is interesting given he seems to have Ross's ear and as a Dolphin lifer would pour his heart into the job of re-tooling a team I feel is an OL and Power RB away from competing.

I would love to draft Mich. LT Taylor Lewan in RD-1 next Yr. to be my day-1 starter. I would double down and take N.C.'s LT James Hurst in RD-2 moving him to RT as a day-1 starter as well. In Rds. 3-6 I would double down once again on RB's. I love the combo at FSU of D.Freeman and James Wilder Jr. (Dad was a stud RB in his day) both are Powerful RB's either would due maybe later taking Ohio St RB Carlos Hyde sprinkling in the BA on the boards at WR,T.E. and LB.

I would address the Guard issue with my only significant FA signing off another team with K.C. LG John Asamoah moving hell and high water on my own FA's starting with our DT's were I believe we may lose one but can probably;ly afford to given a deep unit. Leaving only RG to be addressed which may have to be done with Gardner or bringing J.Jerry back for another run but with these moves and our guys back healthy I believe it's a core that could make serious noise. The biggest additions are the ones on the Coaching Staff were we probably replace our OC and maybe even the DC. So alot to figure out still but it's were I would start.

"At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach."

SOUNDS GREAT TO ME. WE ARE CURRENTLY LOST IN SPACE.

Orlando I believe if we dropped Carroll we wouldn't miss a beat. Clay too. We need a real TE. There are also countless picks who are no longer on this team.

Think about it. Only two drafted receivers on this team after 6 years. Hartline and Matthews.

misi in 2n rd was bad. just later in that rd d washington and s lee went

Philbin cant make chicken salad out of chicken shyt.

HERE'S THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THE DOLPHINS FRONT OFFICE THEY ARE TERRIBLE EVALUATORS OF TALENT OVERALL.. OH THEY'VE HIT ARE FEW BUT THEY SELECT TOO MUCH WITH "MONEY ON THE MIND" IN OTHER WORDS TOO MUCH WE ARE NOT GOING TO PAY HIM THAT AMOUNT.. THIS COST US ALBERT AND FB FROM BALTIMORE. ALBERT FELL IN OUR LAP BUT IRELAND STILL DID NOT DO THE DEAL BECAUSE OF "MONEY ISSUE" WELL THIS COST US AT LEAST 3 VICTORIES DESPITE THE OTHER ISSUES. WHAT HAS TOO CHANGE IS THIS 1) THE CITY APPROVES A NEW STADIUM DEAL THIS WILL MAKE ROSS EVEN MORE DETERMINED TO FIELD A WINNER. 2) FIX OL 3) GO GET ANOTHER DEEP THREAT RECEIVER TO FURTHER OPEN UP THE FIELD AND GIVE WALLACE MORE ONE/ONE COVERAGE.. DON'T JUST SETTLE BUILD TO BECOME DOMINANT AND THIS TEAM CAN WIN 11 GAMES NEXT YEAR OR MORE.. GO DOLPHINS!!

Posted by: fin4life | November 26, 2013 at 07:53 PM

Not a bad plan at all fin4life. Add a FA cb and a veteran rb for depth and I'll hire you for GM. I don't think Lamar Miller is a total bust though. He just needs experience and some better blocking.

Living close to Tampa I'm very familiar with Wilder Jr. He's a beast.

At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach.

When Cowher was hired he inherited a pretty good team from legendary Coach Chuck Noll whose last few Seasons seemed as burnt out as Landry in Dallas and Shula who dragged it out on Marino's watch. As many Post-Season appearances as he made he had as many early exits with alot of folks wondering if he'd ever get over the hump and did I mention the F.O. and Assistant Coaches he had to work with!?

He NEARLY blows it in 96 Vs. Harbaugh and the Colts squeaking out a tight win at home. The Yr. before they blew it with the Chargers who had NO BUSINESS in the S.B. after Stoyo missed the F.G. in our game which should have sent us to Pitt. instead when Cowher screwed the pooch!! In 05 Bettis fumbled there S.B. away when Big Ben makes a game saving Tackle at Mid-Field and the Colts idiot kicker (Peyton's words) missed the kick! The phantom T.D. in that S.B. were Rothlisbereger was tackled at the one then the NO CALL on a P.I. in the Endzone in a game you felt the refs had a mandate or something that Seattle wasn't supposed to win with Ben posting the worst stats by a S.B. winning Q.B. in History.

Again his supporting cast was Off the charts from a shrewd Front Office to some of the best Assistant Coaches in NFL history !! You believe Mike Tomlin whose Coached that team since is a great Coach a product of a great program?? You all talk and talk while not analyzing that it takes all the factors I've mentioned to succeed. Don't believe me look at the mess in Dallas since Jerry meddled with Jimmy, yes he's put together some great teams on paper but they NEVER win a rudderless ship which by the way we are presently and the reason the 1st hire should be someone to over see the Football Org. from the top. Ireland needs to be the 1st to go with a strong presence brought in to replace him and begin the culture change before blowing up the team and Coaches yet again, JMO!!!

nearly blows it...... man i wish we would nearly blow it

It's the QB stupid eh?

Rick,

Mathews was also a steal in the 7th round. The team only keeps 5, so how many receivers can he take. Wallace, Gibson, Hartline, Mathews,...

As for missing on picks. Name the team and they will have misses, even the Pats. I have gone and showed everyone the Pats early round misses in the past. The difference is they have Tom Brady an Bill Belicheck but trust me they have probably missed on more picks the last 5 years than Ireland.

I really think that this team is close. Think about it, if Peyton Manning had signed with the fins they would have the Broncos record.

Aponte is in charge but you morons don't know this as usual you clueless fools eh?

Where's Ireland fools? Now you're learning you idiots eh?

The defense is very good but is underperforming under this coaching staff. With almost the same players Mike Nolan had this defense as a top 5 unit. I actually think the defense has better players now (Grimes, Jordan, Vernon have been added since) but they have players more suited to a 3-4 scheme and not a 4-3 scheme. That is on the coaches for not adjusting not Ireland. He has given them the players on defense and they have not used them correctly.

On offense Ireland got Sherman and Philbin the QB they wanted, Tannehill. He has given them a big play receiver in Wallace, and very good complimentary receivers. He got him Kellar (he got hurt) and Clay as TEs. Besides Tannehill's inexperience the offensive line is the biggest problem and you can blame that on Phiblin too. Philbin was threatened by Long's strong character, he wanted Jonathan Martin (zone blocking), Egnew was Philbin's pick (reports say), and Philbin also did not want a FB. This team can not block and it is not just the OL. There are no FBs or blocking TEs on this team.

Also, it does not look like this team makes the right adjustments in games after teams adjust to the fins. That is all on the coaches. I think too much blame is put on Ireland.

Ireland is gone sucking Parcells balls eh.

It's the QB MORONS eh?

Living close to Tampa I'm very familiar with Wilder Jr. He's a beast.

Posted by: Dolfan Rick | November 26, 2013 at 08:05 PM

His Dad, Doug Williams, Leroy Selmon, Hugh Green and Comp. came close to putting it together before they had one of the bigger implosions in Leagur history.

By the way to all the Cowher lovers here's a little known fact.......

He made his Off-Season home in North Carolina were his wife passed and more importantly to him his daughters live with their families and Children. Anybody who watched the Steelers in the Cowher ERA remembers his Daughters who were always on his sidelines and the emotion he showed for them. I believe it doesn't take a ton of cash but situation were he's the most comfortable making the Panthers the most appealing to him. He turned down there overtures a couple of Seasons ago because of his wife's resent passing stricken with cancer but now is probably one of the few jobs he would seriously consider were he stays close to his Children and Grand-Children.

Orlando,

It's a little too early to say Matthews was a steal in the 7th rd.

A few good games doesn't make a career. Brady was a steal in the 6th rd.

Sure we're close but we're as close to being bad as we are close to being good.

We have no true decent TE on the roster, no FB, only one decent corner, and the O-line is in shambles. we are the joke of every media outlet out there due to Ireland's constant gaffes.

He's had 6 years. No playoffs and its time to move on. Winning is the only thing that should save him and he's running out of time by the week.
