Statement from Jonathan Martin attorney here

Jonathan Martin's family this week hired sports attorney David Cornwell to represent the Dolphins offensive lineman. On Thursday evening Cornwell released the following statement:

Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue. Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh’s “smash mouth” brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck's blind side.

"The issue is Jonathan’s treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing.  For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment.  This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying.  Despite these efforts, the taunting continued.  Beyond the well-publicized voice mail with its racial epithet, Jonathan endured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate, and daily vulgar comments such as the quote

"These facts are not in dispute.

"Eventually, Jonathan made a difficult choice. Despite his love for football, Jonathan left the Dolphins. Jonathan looks forward to getting back to playing football. In the meantime, he will cooperate fully with the NFL investigation.

"Quote from teammate: “We are going to run train on your sister. . . . She loves me. I am going to (expletive) her without a condom and (expletive) in her (expletive).”

On hard knock it documented a coach pointing to egnew and saying to Fasano. I'm paraphrasing...'Hey, watch that kid egnew..stay on him.' You don't think there were the ones calling him soft and then the ones working with him to support him. He would be a great person to interview. How about that armando?

Marc....

A military wash -out is now an expert in military culture.....

You coudn't cut it....

Sounds like your boyfriend stepped out on you during your one deployment yo OIF....that you remind us of incessantly.....

So tell us more about the locker room you have never been in....and the military you coudn't hack it in....

I'll bet it pi$$ed you off to no end that the dude nailing your man was black.....

Your insecurities become clearer with every post....

This is just totally ridiculous. It's all about money, they first threw gogs under the bus, then the coach and GM, now the rest of the team. Next it's the NFL itself for allowing hazing and the mentallity that everyone needs to be tough and manly which lead to the corrupt locker room in Miami. Everything they have is piece mealed for a reason, to allow the media to run with the story and get everyone worked up so that no matter what happens the truth is buried. That's why they haven't released the complete voicemail and all the damning texts that Martin received. So now the whole team bullied him and that's why he didn't tell anyone about ho he felt. Is it possible that everyone on the team disliked him, anything is possible, it it likely, not very. Martin will stay in the hospital for the rest of the season and his lawyers will continue to work the press and pressure the organiztion. The NFL better get their lawyers warmed up because they are next in line.

Funny hearing people bringing up all these other cases in the league, trying to somehow deflect the media attention the team is getting now. Clueless. Guess what geniuses, the spotlight is now on the team, and some of what's been exposed is less than flattering. Accept it. Deny all you want, deflect all you want, rally around the flag all you want like good little sheep. But when the report comes out, and the NFL makes its judgment, then repercussions will be felt.

In the meantime, not only does the team have a game to prepare for, and the stress of not letting the Season get away, but now they have the added pressure for this game specifically, not to be the first team to lose to the Bucs, and also the added pressure that EVERY LOSS GOING FORWARD THIS SEASON will be an indictment of the issues that have been exposed by this entire ordeal.

That's a lot of pressure. I'm hoping the team can endure, and that will be a testament to the fact they might have a "good character men" in their locker room. But they are playing on a ledge right now. Any misstep and the fall might be devastating.

Rene...good point, but being unliked and considered soft is in no way proof of harassment. This entire case is based on a player who could no longer do his job and was replaced by an older pro in his prime. Moving Martin back to the right side of the line was the breaker. I am sure he was holding back all of this so called evidence for the right time in case such a move was made. He had to have seen this coming long before it actually happened and was very prepared to take action. If it is proven that his actions were false and premeditated then he is in for one hell of problem in court.

This case is becoming more about NFL culture and less about harassment and hazing.

Well Cogs was a menace at a recent club golf outing practically molesting a volunteer & not apologizing. Nat Moore & others had to apologize for him.

If that's not bad enough, the volunteer kept quiet because she signed a confidentiality agreement. Wonder if it was the phins?

This is plain ugly. Phins trying to keep it quiet so he wouldn't get suspended while condoning the crude behavior? Heads will roll & it will likely be those of Ireland & Philbin...for starters!

Harsh Kris, lol. But also very educational (to our cultural behaviors). See how you used graphic sexually-tinged debasing comments? Much like what was said to Martin (about running trains on his sister). Yes, this is just how we speak (I'm not condemning you Kris, I speak like this too). But is it right? Or have we (as a culture) gone too far in the wrong direction (as far as vulgarity in our language, art, dance, driving communications, culture in general).

We probably need to all reflect on that. Maybe we need to take a step back. In earlier times, if you threatened to have intercourse with ones family member, you would be summoned to a duel, or possibly shot on sight. Are people just supposed to accept that as "a joke" now?

And for the ones talking about this happened under a new leadership council, that crap happened under the old leadership council. So you really think if there was a weak player that they had issue with, esp in a year when the line and specifically martin and clabo were getting toasted players one wouldn't have noticed and 2 start talking crap to armando?

JUST FYI...if this is in fact true, then yes I can see Philbin and co. getting the boot. As the coach you must have the pulse of your locker room and of the players both inside the facility and out. I hope for the teams sake that this golfing expedition was not sanctioned by the franchise, otherwise this could be another nail in the coffin of the owner and his staff.

Sigh must be on Martin's payroll, because it says the same thing over and over again.

Couldn't hack it?

More like didn't need it.

I got a skill and college money and now I make more than a General.

What are you? A Staff Sergeant?

HAHA

I wonder if this so called malicious attack was the fight between him and our rookie Jordan during camp, ironically in which Ritchie (the guy who is so out to get him) saved his arse....

Posted by: Kris | November 08, 2013 at 08:27 AM

Kris proves once again what a trivial mind he has. His level of debate, like too many bloggers here, can't extend beyond adolescent, homophobic, trash talk, because he has not the intellect, vocabulary, or education to make any kind of mature compelling statement.

It was the TEAMS golf outing. Nat Moore was there & he's the VP isn't he? It was without question the Miami Dolphins Golf event.

Not the Dolphins OL gold outing. IF it's true that someone in the phins organization made the woman signed a hush agreement, the management structure of the dolphins will be dismantled. Top to Bottom.

Kris fits the dismal, unflattering profile of todays military personnel.

Only someone with less than half a brain and no better option would join the military.

the issue with "guys" like kris & craig m is that they aren't here to debate. they are here to belittle. they think they are superior & thus everyone else is inferior in stature & intellect. they are smarter than everyone. they're always right & to question that is to incite. you see it every day. they are obnoxious & classless.

if you want to be reminded of how tall kris is & how much he weighs, come here. if you want to see craig m telling someone they were wrong & he is right, come here.

been goin on here for years!

Isn't it funny, if not ironic how military dweebs, those who chose a work life surrounded by stupid and latent homosexual men, are the ones always making homophobic jokes?

jokes/comments

Makes you wonder why Kris is always telling everyone his body shape.

This is absolutely pathetic.

I'm assuming this malicious attack was a pillow fight at this point or perhaps an ill fated game of patty cake.

LOL, THIS FINS ORGANIZATION IS A TOTAL JOKE....http://youtu.be/qyuy_-IoNkM

lol @ CommonSense

Ha! That last quote is funny. We are going to run train on your sister ... awesome

Just because an attorney says its so,,,doesn't mean it is. This is just to put heat on Roos, who also has a stable of attorneys. This is incredible.

6bux, rated bottom third is being generous. he was the 2nd worst graded tackle in the NFL... he's a puss

Yo , JOHN got find a soap box. Who's the moron if he believes everything printed and not proven,,,,

...Do you guys realize that this is no longer really even about Incognito? It is about the Dolphin organization...The guts of the machine that are going to be put to the fire. First question that Ross needs to be asking..WTF were you bozos doing putting Incognito in a leadership role? Really? Is that the best we can do? This is like putting a junkie in charge as the pharmacy. Would Incognito be a leader on a functional franchise? A winning franchise?
And some of you laughed at the jets when Santonio Holmes was a captain??

This is not an indictment of our players, or even Martin. It is an indictment of the decision making process of this regime..These guys are the ones that will ultimately be cleared, or take the brunt of the blame.

Have you morons applied for Obama Care yet, a 1% penalty of your gross income, if you don't. LOL,,,morons who voted for Obama,,,,lol,,,lol,,,lol,,,lol,,

I have no issue with the locker room behavior. Joking around, obscenities, etc. I've said equally bad things about my friends moms & sisters. It's what guys do.

Obviously, repeating the same kinds of things over n over & no ones family members gets run train, you already know they're not serious.

He's not cut out to be in the NFL, period. IF those were really threats over the last 1.5 years, why hasn't anyone actually done what they said?

Martin's a ninny. My whole issue with this whole thing is Ireland supposedly advocating a physical altercation in his work place(just epitomizes stupidity) & the team possibly having that volunteer signing a confidentiality agreement.

Both those issues, if true, spell doom for the entire coaching staff & the GM. At the end of the day, that might be a good thing.
Even with that said, a threat without violence over 1.5 years is Obviously just a gag. Martin is through in the NFL.

Anyone else mad at Sage Rosenfels right now? He is all over the place slamming the Dolphins. What a douche.... what a Ginger Dik

Kris, i also find it ironic that you sypathize with a puss like martin then use similar tactics on another poster here. What gives?

Posted by: old school blogger | November 08, 2013 at 08:52 AM

I disagree, I've been here for years and had many good debates with Kris. Sometimes we get too heated in our disagreements and lash out with vulgarities. Kris is usually pretty level-headed and thoughtful. I wouldn't take this one incident as a reflection of who he is.

On the other hand, Incognito has a history dating back to his college days. And that's what's driving much of the investigation. Your past DOES come back to haunt you.

What's long, hard and sure to please the ladies?

Richie Incognito's golf club

Daryl, you know when the team was voting "leaders", you know who Martin voted for .... Richie.

This guy is slime and total sack of shite. Betrayed the code large and threw his team under the bus. I want to ride train on his sister too.

Darryl,

You can't compare pro sports to the regular work world. Who else would you want leading the oline? A pansy, a gentleman, or a mean mad man like Cogs?

Do you want to win football games or win the NFL Mary Poppins award?

The media loves to pretend working in the NFL is like working for American Airlines. It isn't, And those that follow the media are suckers for buying into it. It is not a realistic comparison. The same rules don't apply, can can't apply, otherwise the NFL will become nothing but team badminton.

Damn Baylor put on a case of whoopass on Oklahoma last night.

You People thought this would not get this serious, didn't you? Well, it has.

I've been here as long or longer than just about anyone. Kris has always been a doooouche...Probably because half the base is bangin' his old lady and he doesn't have the skills to get a real job. I'd be upset too

As an example, I told one of our stock room guys today that I was gonna f his mom & s*it a meatloaf down her throat.

He responded by making some equally vile remarks about what he wants to do to my mothers remains. I am not planning a lawsuit as a result.

Martin is weak. End of story. The sooner he's outta here, the better.

HAHAHA @ rdubs

What's this with Incognito and a golf club?

marc, when did you quite the French Legion?

DD, why are you asking Ross? Owners (except a few) are usually hands off, and day to day operations are run by the VP of Football Operations, GM, HC, on down. It's delegation. On the Leadership Council, a former HC said HE chose who he wanted on that. He didn't leave it to the team, because he wanted players he trusted would get him the info he needed to stay on top of everything that was going on. Maybe that's the way Philbin should handle it in the future.

Honestly, I think this is a 1st time HC learning the intricacies of everything you are responsible for. It's less about hands on coaching at that level, and more about managing an organization. And I'm not sure Philbin is well suited to be that engaged on the players level. He seems detached to me (a lot like what many say about Pres. Obama). Almost above it all, like he doesn't have time to get down in the muck. But unfortunately, as a HC, you need to go there to have a handle of your team.

But I'm not sure any Owner besides Jerry Jones would be responsible for something like the Leadership Council. To me that's on the GM/HC.

Go read up on it mark. you'll find it.

Google it MarK. He "assaulted" some chick at a golf tournament. My guess is that she was asking for it.

DC, really...you've just lowered everyone's opinion of you. Kris is an idiot, a hypocrite, a flip flopper and has never had a compelling thought.

He is a simpleton.

Mark,

Did you hear about Incognito trying to satisy a ladies needs with his golf club?

In my estimation as soon as Martin hired Cornwell the motives of his family became quite obvious. They plan to sue the Dolphins and the NFL for multi-millions. I believe that Martin was subjected to no more bullying than any other Dolphin who may have not performed on the field. And the media is running with all of this. Martin is a quitter pure and simple and should not be portrayed some type of hero, no more than a traitor such as Eric Snowden should be portrayed as a hero. And, I don't consider myself a hard-nose conservative. In fact, quite the opposite.

Mark....

Have you read this blog....

Seriously...

Marc started in with comments about my wife 2 pages ago...

But if I say something back...some how I'm I'm the wrong....

Please explain....

I read it now, he was just cleaning his club head, let it go....

I agree with marc, she was asking for it.

rdubs, sounds like he was doing her a favour... no harm no foul.

More to come.

How some guy from Canada calls me FRENCH is beyond me!

I'm suing

Google it MarK. He "assaulted" some chick at a golf tournament. My guess is that she was asking for it.

Posted by: Marc | November 08, 2013 at 09:28 AM

That's nto even the worst part. The worst is she signhed a confidentiality agreement with someone to not talk about it. It was hidden from the league.

it was a dolphins event, surely the Dolphins didn't ask her to sign an agreement...no no no

Yeah. It's getting late. I gotta go run a train on Kris' old lady while he's in the field. I'm gonna c_m in her a___ss

Posted by: Marc | November 07, 2013 at 11:38 PM

----------------------

But I'm wrong....right Mark....

Kris, I get into heated discussions with marc all the time too.

Does he know your wife, how can you give that comment any credibility?

I think it's more likely McKinnie is getting a lapdance right now from martin's sister on a bus than someone is nailing your wife.

Point is, you got down to the level you were criticizing earlier.

Kris. You started this days ago...Nanananebooboo

Faaaaag

Mark,

then they say he emptied a water bottle on her head. I am guessing a simulated lobstertube shot
