Statement from Jonathan Martin attorney here

Jonathan Martin's family this week hired sports attorney David Cornwell to represent the Dolphins offensive lineman. On Thursday evening Cornwell released the following statement:

Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue. Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh’s “smash mouth” brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck's blind side.

"The issue is Jonathan’s treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing.  For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment.  This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying.  Despite these efforts, the taunting continued.  Beyond the well-publicized voice mail with its racial epithet, Jonathan endured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate, and daily vulgar comments such as the quote

"These facts are not in dispute.

"Eventually, Jonathan made a difficult choice. Despite his love for football, Jonathan left the Dolphins. Jonathan looks forward to getting back to playing football. In the meantime, he will cooperate fully with the NFL investigation.

"Quote from teammate: “We are going to run train on your sister. . . . She loves me. I am going to (expletive) her without a condom and (expletive) in her (expletive).”

Rdubs, the funny thing is, listening to the radio coming to work today, I heard the EXACT SAME THINGS we complain about when the Dolphins lose. Callers said the coaches DO NOT make halftime (or in game) adjustments. They complained about the playcalling (and lack of run plays in the 2nd half to maintain the lead). They complain about routes, dropped passes, pretty much verbatim what we all complain about. It's really pretty funny. These knuckleheads actually think the Skins had their Playoff hopes dashed with this loss (as if they ever had a chance to make the Playoffs even in the worst division in the NFL). Just puts things in context for me viewing it from a distance rather than dealing with it when it's my team. Pretty funny stuff.

Funny hearing people bringing up all these other cases in the league, trying to somehow deflect the media attention the team is getting now. Clueless. Guess what geniuses, the spotlight is now on the team, and some of what's been exposed is less than flattering. Accept it. Deny all you want, deflect all you want, rally around the flag all you want like good little sheep. But when the report comes out, and the NFL makes its judgment, then repercussions will be felt.

DC I was one who raised the cases of Big Ben (rape) and Pac Man Jones (shooting). I didn't take time to mention the many DUI cases that truly threaten the lives of U.S. citizens.

I bring them up not to 'deflect' attention from the Fins. I bring them up to recognize our national media and our U.S. society as a whole seems to be making a much bigger issue of this 'bullying case' than those mentioned above. I find it shameful.

I am not saying the bullying of a +300 pound man in a NFL locker room isn't important or news worthy. I am simply saying I don't see it anywhere near the scope of the other NFL player situations.

YG or Oscar,

Before you or you guys, depends how you feel today, keep ragging on Kris with your Bullying. Please Explain To The Blog How you caught your wife Sucking & Swallowing a Dominican Sausage. WE ALL KNOW YOU ARE PROJECTING YOUR PERSONAL PROBLEMS ONTO OTHERS.

And Kris, Good Job not falling for this Clown's game.

DC Im hearing the same exact stuff on the radio about the Giants and Jets here in NYC. It does put in proper perspective.

Please Explain To The Blog How you caught your wife Sucking & Swallowing a Dominican Sausage

Dashi pops in here every now and then with lines like this......priceless! LOL

Yeah explain that YG or Oscar??

Stupid is the person who confuses physical toughness with mental toughness.

Martin lacks toughness.

This is an accurate statement.

He leaves town as the most hated member in Dolphins history.

A true vile scumbag self-centered p.o.s..

Betraying his teammates, his employer, those who have trusted him.

He should have honored his commitment to the team that invested heavily in him.

Then made issue after the season if necessary.

He's not even a man.

He's a coward and a disgrace.

I hope he loses his lawsuit and he's counter sued for defamation.

This is going to follow him for the rest of his life.

Give him a settlement and send him on his way. Martin will probably never play football again. I say probably because he might sue a team for not signing him! Lastly all the people who say the team defending Cogs was orchestrated by the coach. I ask one thing. Why wouldn't they just say Cogs was a bad guy, he did stuff behind the scene's, we will not tolerate it and he is gone in a heart beat, we are instituting a program to help rookies. That would have made more sense, but they aren't. Reason being this is probably something could have been orchestrated by Martin and his family. Martin read the writing on the wall, he couldn't or didn't want to play ball anymore.

I don't think Martin is looking to play football again he will sued the Dolphins and get more money than he ever would have made playing in his career .
I don't agree with Hazing or bully but a man that is 6 5 and 325 lbs COME MOM MEN like ESPN SAID this kid is mentally weak and will never play in the NFL again
Another of Ireland wasted pick and yes this may cost him his job and also Philbin Job
if this Team rebound from this and finish 10-6 and make the playoff maybe Philbin will save his job but is the team finish at 500 or worst CLEAN HOUSE WILL BE IN EFFECT now lets see how they will react in the next 2 games against Tampa and San Diego if they win both I think will be ok but if we lose to Tampa on Monday season may be over and the Miami Media will have a BLAST Really Hope the players stick together and show the entire nation who are THE MIAMI DOLPHINS
I have been a fan of this team for over 40 years and I can said that this organization has never been worse Since COACH SHULA retired everything has been downhill first it mas an ego maniac Jimmy Johnson them it was MR panic Wansteadt them the quitter Saban and Parcell them 2 incompetents in Cameron and Sparano and now Philbin that as far as I am concern lacks LEADERSHIP. Also I remember that in 1972 The Dolphins had 8 position Coaches and Shula as Head Coach now they have 22 Positions Coaches and they can't control 59 players counting the ones in the practice squad THAT SAID A LOT and is not only the Dolphins every team in the NFL has more than 20 Coaches to deal with all the PREMADONAS HIGH PAY ATHLETES something is really wrong here

I think the Dolphins should go to the game and refuse to play – ON MNF – until this is resolved and Incognito restored to the team. Mutiny against the shakedown and force it to a fore immediately. Don't let Martin drag this on and on and win through lawyer speak. This would make the NFL take notice and realize the players are not okay with the team being run.

It would be great TV at least!

All you tools complaining that he should sack up are the same b*tches that go running to HR and any ambulance chaser you can find to come up over nothing. Your only problem with this is that you aren't going to score any cash. Go walk through a ghetto in Miami and try to spit any of this crap out. You'd be running for your lives like little c*m rags begging for help. Morals boys! yes boys, men are smart enough to see the big picture in all of this. Boys sit around measuring what they think is their junk, stubs don't count boys!

Sorry smackdown I do not speak "Ebonex" what are you trying to said

I hope that quote about the sister was not true but if it is Martin should have punched that person in the face right away. I really don't like what i am hearing about some of the players and hope it is not true. My view is Martin was just upset about not playing well and being moved to right guard where he is on record saying he didn't really want to play there.Only the people in the locker room know what happened and maybe we do have some punks in the locker room but you have to be a man stand up for yourself even if you lose the fight, otherwise the will just keep pushing you around.I think the truth here is martin couldn't handle the pressure of being an NFL player and he is just not that good of a player, I won't be surprised if someone picks him up but i will be surprised if e turns out to have a long career in the NFL.I am curious to know though if the Dolphins are still paying this guy I mean he walked out on his team do they have to pay him what is his official status Armando you really haven't said, I would like to know.
