Stephen Ross shows a lot of love for Philbin

TAMPA -- This is what Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in his opening remarks tonight when he met with the media.

You will note the love he shows for Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. You will note he does not mention Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland:

In the past two weeks, our primary concern has been for Jonathan Martin.  Immediately after learning that Jonathan left the team, I spoke with Head Coach Joe Philbin and Joe visited with Jonathan in person that evening.  Over the ensuing days, both Joe and I reached out to Jonathan to express our concern and to offer our support.  Jonathan and I have exchanged texts as recently as this weekend, and I am scheduled to meet with him in person to see how he is doing and to listen to his concerns.   As I noted last week, I reached out to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and asked him to conduct an independent review of these allegations and I am grateful that Ted Wells will be leading the effort.  We have pledged our full cooperation in that endeavor. In addition, last week, we began our own internal review of policies and procedures to determine if there are immediate areas which can be improved upon.  I have asked President and CEO Tom Garfinkel to lead this effort.

Joe Philbin is a big part of that review process.  Joe is a man of high character who routinely communicates to our players our expectations of behavior and he espouses the values that we stand behind. He genuinely cares about our players—you can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. A final step is the creation of an independent advisory group to review our current organizational conduct policies and to make recommendations on areas for improvement. I have asked former NFL Head Coaches Don Shula and Tony Dungy, along with former players Dan Marino, Curtis Martin and Jason Taylor, to be a part of this group and we will announce further additions in the coming days.  Together, these men bring integrity, respect and diverse experiences to the discussion, some having just recently retired from the locker room.

Joe Philbin and others will be a part of the process, as will current Dolphin players.  I want to be clear: this effort is to improve the Miami Dolphins only and is not intended to be a blueprint for other franchises. The working group will begin its charge after the season.  The NFL locker room is a special place, no doubt, but that does not mean that different rules of decency and respect should be in play.  Winning championships is what we are all about, but we cannot do so if any of our family members are challenged from reaching their potential. I want to thank the Dolphin fans and alumni for their patience as we work towards a stronger organization.

Why would you even want to make the playoffs??

Probably the dumbest question ever asked.

You guys are ridiculous, We lost the whole left side of the line two weeks ago. We are missing our best TE and best WR and second best CB and our two rookie CB's are injured.

No team can survive that. It isn't about coaching.

dion Jordan plays soft dosent play with violence ala quinten moses he needs to move to lb his coaches at Oregon said he cant play de in nfl I think fins need to fire nat moore as idfvisor he is too nice of a guy he gives ross bad suggestions that don't work like giving people second chances hes old school old school dosent work anymore you have to be arrogant and evl to win now on this evil world we live in now

f it were done i"m tired of this crap they suck!!! I can't watch these over paid bums anymore defence sucks offence is garbage. I blame the whole team other than matthews only one that played good the whole game!!!!

This is Ross's problem...he confuses people he likes with people who are good at what they do.

I've been a homer on here all year. If its another 7-9 or 6-10 year blow it up. This was an awful game. Still a fan, but really disappointed in this team right now.

Pay attention to the wise posts of Fred S. Sure the Dolphins played lousy, but if we make a change at GM we could be even worse! Let's keep a proven commodity like Jeff Ireland in charge. Lots to be excited about!

You see I.R.A understands.

Be patient. We'll get there. You know there are plenty of teams worse than us.

P.s. mando, don't celebrate too hard tonight. I know you are as giddy as a west virginian with a furby.

Fixing the oline won't change the lack of awareness by Charles clay. It won't fix Mike Wallace's terrible hands. It won't force Tannehill to make the throws that an NFL qb should make. It won't change the piss poor run defense that makes me long for the days of Karlos and Kevin. It won't change the predictable out pattern that is apparently the only play call that Mike Sherman knows. It won't turn Nolan Carroll into a competent NFL corner. And it won't change the embarrassing personnel decisions that Jeff Ireland makes year after year after year. This team is garbage from top to bottom and there is no hope for this year or next year or the year after that.

one does not build a championship team over night. Have a cup of hot tea and chill out.

Fred S. is right again. Who could have foreseen the injuries to the Dolphins? I bet we are the only team in the NFL to lose starters to injuries.

Any way to fire Ross? And then fire all the incompetent bozos he has used to destroy this poor team of ours, including his new buddy Joe. This coaching staff is absolutely, UNQUESTIONABLY
PATHETIC, EMBARRASSING, SICKENING, IRRITATING........

tannehil lacks instincts he doesn't step up and throw or run when needs to that's wants separates ryan with luck that's how you throw td passes and a lot of yards tannehill cant do it brn rotlesberger has great intincts tony romo when you don't have instincts your not the answer your a bust we need another qb

Fire Ross my self and a couple of other realistic PHINS fan deserve a apology we called it that the PHINS was going to lose they did. For four years I been calling for Irescum head. All you foolish homers didn't want to talk to me called me every bad name in the book. But guess what I'm right. That's right. I got two user names Ray and Ray heat PHINS fan! Remember me! Now it is time to gloat I was right and you all homers are dead wrong why because you can't tell a real winning team to a average to bad team. You guys think average is a good team.

Give Ireland some credit. Rishard Matthews, 7th round pick...most are busts..he tore it up tonight.

There is a bright side here.

And PLEASE no more about Dion Jordan not being a starter. Geez, you would think having the third pick in the draft would be some sort of magic ticket to finding a starter. Drafting is HARD, but I am sure Jeff Ireland will figure it out and make some great picks in the next draft. Past performance is not a good indicator of future results.

gotta think Fred S. is playing with us

Mike Wallace is absolutely heartless. I can't believe miami paid that scab all that money to fall away from throws and not even attempt to go up for the catch. Ted Ginn 2.0 (when he was in miami). Fire everyone and bring someone in who will actually light a fire under this team. Bring in a DC that will have this D solid and playing at a base 3-4 to put Dion Jordan in better position to make plays and to have all your pro bowl caliber D-linemen on the field together. This team does not deserve to even sniff the playoffs this year. Good job Dolphins on continually disappointing your fans year after year. BUNCH OF LOSERS!!!!

Stephen ross is the big problem with this he is dumb how did this guy become so rich he says before he still likes philbin WHAT THE F

Aside from NE, we've won the most recent SB in our division. Teams around much longer than us have no rings!

We are doing quite well now. Keep it all together. Continuity is important.

I have been a Dolphins fan my whole life. Pay lots of money to direct TV to watch every game. No more. I will boycott until Jeff Ireland is fired. He deserves the biggest share of the blame for the lack of character shown and also the fact that not one rookie (aside from an average kicker) has had any impact on this team. Bad judgment. Scapegoat. Time to go! NOW!

Worst part to me is the defense or lack there of, They are worse than last year by far Wheeler is a bust write it down!! Ellerby is barely hanging, Is it me or are there only 4 players that can make a tackle on the team?

Losing doesn't really feel that bad when we lose by a close margin to a powerhouse like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!

Agree with Shoeman. Wallace is a joke. Sherman is not doing much better. Terrible choices in free agency.

People who say they will boycott never do. They just need a hug or something.

Now it's time to think trade options like Pouncy Both inside line backers. Koa Misi.
Martin RB Thomas Clemons cut or release Wallace trade him over payed can't run routes one trick pony! Irescum will never get a job as a GM in this league again. I guarantee it just like I guarantee a list tonight!

BEATEN BY AN 0-8 TEAM WITH A MEDIOCRE QB AND A RUNNING BACK THAT WAS JUST PICKED UP OUT OF THE WAIVER CAN.

ANOTHER EMBARRASSING NIGHTMARE SIMILAR TO THE BUFFALO GAME.

HOW MUCH MORE OF THIS STINKING GARBAGE DOES ROSS WANT TO TORCHURE DOLPHIN FANS WITH?

ray shouldn;t you be in bible study?

Who is the Fred Flintstone guy with the rose colored glasses?

I bet he thinks Ireland is doing a bang up job and should keep the re-building project intact. NEWSFLASH- the Oline sucked before the Cogs fiasco.
The coaching sucks and I am even starting to question T Hill's awareness. He could have taken off an run 5 times tonight and he might have scored on the one in the red zone.

Ross loved (I hope it's past tense) Ireland. He loves Philbin. He must love the devil too. But apparently he doesn't love the fans leaving in droves much

THE COACH OF THE DETRIOT LIONS SHOULD GIVE FINS A BIG PRESENT FOR SAVING HIS JOB BEAUSE OF THE GIFT PHILBIN GAVE THEM LETTING REGGIE BUSH GO TO THE LIONS FREE I BLAME PHIBIN FOR NOT WANTIN BUSH HE DID NOT LIKE BUSH CELBRITY IMAGE

It's just one game and not even in our conference, If you are going to lose a game, these are the best ones to lose.

Fred S. is clearly Jeff Ireland. Give it up Jeff. Oh, and IRA is making fun of you, just in case that wasn't clear.

Fred S. One should be able to build a respectable team in 15 years. Other than our one amazing year with Chad Pennington this has been one disaster after another since Danny M left us. Screw this be patient crap. We've been patient for 1/2 a lifetime and things are getting worse, not better.

MIK WALLACE PLAYS LIKE A STIFF BODY THATS WHHE CANT RUN ROUTES AND ADJUST IN A CROWD CUT HIM HES WORTHLESS CUT STIFF JOURNYMEN WHEELER TOO

What a pathetic team no heart what so ever starting with the owner other way down to the head coach fire everyone even the phins mascot t.d for not cheering enough lol can Ross fire garbage land already this clown can get nothing right enough is enough you stole all the money you needed now run like the tuna and never work in the nfl again

Apple j ,like everyone knows the geico 15 seconds could save you15 percent on auto insurance. I bet you didn't know that Tannyhill is an athlete/former receiver that can roll out and pass or run when you only need to get in fg range.

I guess mike Sherman does not know that. Sherman needs to go. He knew the line was weaker than ever, yet he had an athlete park in the pocket during crunch time.

THese are not the miami dolphins. The team should change its name to the Miami finger mullets. More indicative of what they are capable of

miami puffer fish

HA HA. That's a good one Fred. Might as well lose to an 0-8 team that's not in our conference. Please leave this board immediately. This is for frustrated fans that give a rats #@$ and have a clue about what is going on what the team

ellerbe and wheeler are a joke. letting go of dansby was a huge mistake. no one ran on us when he directed the front 7

Five four three two one years of drafting OL and can't get it right? All those bust picks. Not to mention the free agents...letting go probowl players. Irescum and the coaching staff has to be gone! PERIOD!

the once proud dolphins nation has fallen.

down with Ross, down with Ireland, down with Philbin

Terrible all the way around Starts from the top Fire and Cut Ireland Aponte Philbin Coyle Sherman Wallace The entire OLINe Ellerbe Wheeler Jones tomorrow

Ross is an assho%$&....Screw Martin. Screw this whole team. They suck. We just lost to the worst team in the NFL

Phil, yes 15 years is plenty of time. 2 or 3 years is not. This FO is just beginning. Ireland had no chance when he was stuck with Parcells and Sparano. Now things are taking form. The SB winners normally are together with the same staff for years before they win. Starting over every 2 to 4 years like we have been will continue to be a losing strategy.

How can you all not see that?

this is worse than the 1-15 season. At least we had the top pick that year. this season is more embarrassing

anyone Miller 7 carries for 2 yrds

I PREDICTED TANNEHILL WAS GOING TO GET SACKED AT LEAST TWICE ON THE LAST DRIVE ITS HAPPEN ALL YEAR ON THE LAST DRIVE AND THROW A INT TO REVIS BEFORE THE LAST DRIVE REVIS LOVES PLAYING FINS BECAUSE HE LIVE BY FINS FACILTY ITS ALL MENTAL

Miami has the dolphins, the worst football team, we fumble around from goal to goal like no one's ever seen. We're not in the air or on the ground, and never in control, cause when you say MIAMI, you're definitely not talking super bowl cause we're the , MIAMI DOLPHINS, MIAMI DOLPHINS, MIAMI DOLPHINS number 1......

vegas you are letting emotion get in the way. It is much better to lose to Tampa than to a division rival or AfC team. Even SB winners have lost to bad teams during the season.

The sky is not falling. I thought it as a fine game, We are on the right track.

And the players are behind Philbin. No philbin lost this locker room last year! He thinks he is going to run this team like his children
Now I know why Martin wanted to comment suicide! Oops no pun intended but Joe is another Cam Cameron, not for nothing but Sparano was a better coach. Serious.

I have been a fan for 47 years. It only seems to get worse rebuild after rebuild. Ross needs to sell the team or hire Bill Cower for GM/Coach job.

yeah Fred. That excuse is wearing thin. Ireland has had the reigns for 4 years now. We are worse than when he started. Every draft pick has been a bust. Yeah, he;s good at finding an undrafted rookie here and there, but thats it

Ireland was given an extension for a reason. Sorry, but I'll trust a billionaires business judgemeent over a blogger who has no clue of all the details involved.

You're blind Fred and you still have time to leave and never come back. This is an inept organization and the coaching sucks. Has Tanny used his legs all season? Does the coaching staff tell him not to run in fear he get hurt or would they rather take their chances getting him killed in the pocket. Or is Tanny just too dumb to realize it? His pocket awareness sucks. And so does this team

what draft pick that ireland has made is on the team or makes any impact? someone please tell me???

Fire the south beach media. They are licking grapes for their next position....no p/fun intended. Espn does not want you tools. Be honest and lay off the trendy drama.

ROSS LOVES PHILBIN BECAUSE HE HIRED HIM HE DOSENT WANT TO LOOK BAD WITH HIS CHOICE SO HE'S BEHIND HIM
