Stephen Ross shows a lot of love for Philbin

TAMPA -- This is what Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in his opening remarks tonight when he met with the media.

You will note the love he shows for Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. You will note he does not mention Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland:

In the past two weeks, our primary concern has been for Jonathan Martin.  Immediately after learning that Jonathan left the team, I spoke with Head Coach Joe Philbin and Joe visited with Jonathan in person that evening.  Over the ensuing days, both Joe and I reached out to Jonathan to express our concern and to offer our support.  Jonathan and I have exchanged texts as recently as this weekend, and I am scheduled to meet with him in person to see how he is doing and to listen to his concerns.   As I noted last week, I reached out to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and asked him to conduct an independent review of these allegations and I am grateful that Ted Wells will be leading the effort.  We have pledged our full cooperation in that endeavor. In addition, last week, we began our own internal review of policies and procedures to determine if there are immediate areas which can be improved upon.  I have asked President and CEO Tom Garfinkel to lead this effort.

Joe Philbin is a big part of that review process.  Joe is a man of high character who routinely communicates to our players our expectations of behavior and he espouses the values that we stand behind. He genuinely cares about our players—you can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. A final step is the creation of an independent advisory group to review our current organizational conduct policies and to make recommendations on areas for improvement. I have asked former NFL Head Coaches Don Shula and Tony Dungy, along with former players Dan Marino, Curtis Martin and Jason Taylor, to be a part of this group and we will announce further additions in the coming days.  Together, these men bring integrity, respect and diverse experiences to the discussion, some having just recently retired from the locker room.

Joe Philbin and others will be a part of the process, as will current Dolphin players.  I want to be clear: this effort is to improve the Miami Dolphins only and is not intended to be a blueprint for other franchises. The working group will begin its charge after the season.  The NFL locker room is a special place, no doubt, but that does not mean that different rules of decency and respect should be in play.  Winning championships is what we are all about, but we cannot do so if any of our family members are challenged from reaching their potential. I want to thank the Dolphin fans and alumni for their patience as we work towards a stronger organization.

I FELT WE WERE GOING TO LOSE THIS GAME IN THE BEGINING OF THE 4TH QUATER WHEN WE HAD TERRIBLE RUSHING YARDS NUMBERS YOU CANT WIN IN THE ROAD WIH THOSE NUMBERS RUSHING AND THE ONLY GUY HAVIN A GOOD GAME WAS ARE FOUTH STRING WR

Wallace lined up on right side all nite again. Covered by Revis with a safety deep. That is the reason the slot is open and Tannehill rightly goes there.

Posted by: Texas Dolphan | November 12, 2013 at 12:46 AM

Yet he got behind both Revis and Barron on a play and Tannehill underthrew the pass out of bounce, it was a sure six! On the last play if Tannehill had more arm and gets that ball 5 Yds further downfied Wallace had a shot given Revis was beaten again and he had position on the deep Safety, watch the replay. Ryan Tannehill's lack of accuracy on the deep ball is now evident. No more doubting it1 He can't get the ball further than 50 Yards downfield without hanging it in the air for a Yr.! There is NO PROBLEM on timing with Wallace it's Tannehill who doesn't have the arm to get it there.

Chalk this one up to, Vegas+media +goodell+ethyl merman = world wrestling federation. Iiiiiii love a parade. Sickening.

I wonder how much T-hill's sack and fumble issues have more to do with a lack of pocket presence and having been a WR for two years in college?

Would the Fins be drafting a new LT in 2014 or a QB (assuming a top QB drops into their lap like Marino was overlooked in the past)?

I believe the jury is still out on T-hill.

what an idiot Diana Ross is... he needs to get rid of both these idiots!!

WHEN WE DONT HAVE PRIMETIME GAMES WE SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD YEAR WHEN WE GET PRIME TIME GAMES AAIN WE START FALLING APART AND LOOK TERRIBLE ON PRIMETIME

B.S. not buying it! We have one of the best front 4's in the game and against the run if you move Odrick to DE with Starks and Solia inside we are top-3 on our game. We played flat we were getting blown 4 Yds off the line, look at the replays our DL are getting to the ball carrier 4 Yds down the field. Someone was posting it's on Ellerbee and he obviously knows little and understands NOTHING! It was the DL getting pushed around like I've NEVER seen out of that group. When we needed the stop after taking the 19-15 lead the Bucs pushed them into submission with a RB named Leonard I have never heard of but looked like a Pro Bowler out there breaking Tackles at the point of contact which again was on the average 4 to 5 Yds down field. We were had in every aspect and beaten on both sides of the line of scrimmage a NO-NO even in this pass happy ERA!

Goodby Jeff........

I WOULD NOT DRAFT A TACKLE IN THE FIRST ROUND I WOULD TRADE FOR ONE OR SIGN A FREE AGENT IF WE TAKE A TACKLE AGAIN THEN IT LOOKS TO ME WE HAVE A JEFF IRELAND TYPE OF NEW GM AGAIN I WOULD TAKE A PLAYMAKER ON DEFENSE OR OFFENSE THE WR AT CLEMSON REMINDS ME OF ANDRE JOHNSON I WOULD TAKE HIM AND DUMP WALLACE

What's with Dion Jordan?

Why isn't he not getting much playing time? Is he proving himself unworthy in practice?

Makes me wonder if the Fins should have picked an o-lineman like everyone thought they would when they moved up. Or just stayed put and picked the best player available regardless of need.

THAT my friends, is the PERFECT example of a mid-tier wide receiver (having been drafted in the NFL in the first round) touted as a franchise quarterback.

Ryan: You are PATHETIC. Tim Tebow is WAY beyond you in all phases of what a QB should be. And that man doesn't even have an opportunity right now. Oh...but the one thing he has that you don't? A sack. No...wait a minute. Let me take that back. You lead the league in sacks. At least Tebow has a sack. Tonight, we could have seen somebody in there with a heart. Somebody with guts. Win or lose, we could have watched somebody that would put their nuggets out there and showed some leadership. But...noooo. We got the proverbial deer-in-the-headlights look that we're all so familiar with. We got a wide receiver behind center, and he is PATHETIC. In every aspect. If T.T. got the disastrous Denver Broncos to the playoffs because of his freaking unbelievable passion and heart, he sure as heck could of got us above a 5 out-of-6 game skid.

Take you, Philbin, Sherman, Ireland and get OUT!

ROSS.....DO SOMETHING! You impotent NYC ivory tower loser.

Wow, what a depressing season. The defense totally choked and the offense got eaten alive when it mattered most...not good. How many seasons in a row of excuses is it now, sixteen, seventeen? Does Tannehill suck or is it that he's surrounded by complete garbage? Is Philbin a good coach saddled with a horrible GM or does he suck too? Will they use their mid-roound draft pick on someone they don't need or will they deal down and get a few players who never develop instead?

You know what? I don't care anymore. Watching the Dolphins has become a boring miserable chore and honestly I'm just sick of it. I don't even want to pretend I care anymore.

WE NEED A REAL MIDDLE LINEBACKER A TACKLIN MACHINE ELLEBRE PLAYS LIKE A WEAKSIDE LINEBACKER WE NEED A DOWNHILL RUNSTOPPER THE GUY CAN RUN 4.9 40 BUT IF HE WANTS TO MAKE EVER PLAY THATS WHAT WE NEED ELLERBE PLAYS LIKE HE IS GOING TO COVER SOMEBODY THEN TRYING TO FILL THE HOLE WHEN SOLIAI IS PLAYING BAD FINS RUN DEFENSE STRUGGLES

I simply have no words to describe what I just witnessed tonight. I am so sorry guys, I thought for sure the players would pull together and win this one handily, boy was a way off base. Well I know when to admit I was wrong and I sure missed this one by a mile.
I am sure pink slips will be the next order of business in the morning. Maybe by the time I get up Ireland will be a distant memory, what a total and complete abortion this team has become under his watch.

Please, if just ran 2 yard it's impossible to win.
Tampa saw that and they blitz the last plays.
We don't have OL, Tannehill, Brady even Marino or Montana can't win a game whit out running the ball.

Fin4life I agree with you
after tonight's debacle it is time to get rid of excess baggage starting with Ireland, and Wallace
Yes we paid Wallace lots of money and of all our receivers he is the worst - not just tonight look at all the games so far this year - We should cut him and save the CAP room for real football players.
There is no heart in this team. They are just going through the motions - that is a reflection of the coaches. Both Philbin and Sherman are horrible - Anyone could come up with better plays for the talent we do have than what we are doing.
We need a real bruiser of a RB cut Thomas he is no good - cut gillislee while we are at it he is never going to be an NFL RB – cut Egnew how long are we going to experiment with him – I think he has caught two balls in 25 games – do we expect he will wake up a new man one day. As a blocker he stinks. Fasano was so much better. Too bad we let him go.
What about that line Jerry just let the defense walk around him several times – Clabo missed his guy every time and neither one was able to push their guy when we had a run. Dallas Thomas is another bust . Garner was no better – they just went around him he is too slow in his feet. Did you all notice we did not have more than 3 seconds to throw the ball – not even against an 0-8 team. 3 seconds that is it – we have to hold the record in the NFL. Even Tampa Bay was able to give their QB 5 or more seconds every time.
We are not even close – we have way below average players that are dragging us down –
Having said that we have a few good ones on the offensive side: Hartline, Gibson, Keller, Pouncy, Mathews, not too sure yet about McKinney; and in defense we are good with our front 6 or so players as well as Grimes and Clemons. But it is our offense that we need to revamp. The line and get rid of Wallace use that cap space to sign 2 or 3 good players this off season.
Been a fan since 1969 when I went to my first game – left for the AF and was only able to go to 3 more games before retiring in 93. Followed the 71 and 72 and 73 teams closely while in Nam. That was an impressive accumulation of talent at every position. Whoever was GM at that time did an excellent job. Shula brought life to those teams. Unlike Philbin who looks like he might be asleep at the game. Saw 2 or 3 games every year since 94. I was there one December when Dan Marino beat the Jets. I will continue to support the Dolphins but we really need to fix this, and I have lost all confidence in our GM. He is not a very good talent evaluator. He more than anyone must go. Plus someone needs to tell him not to be so arrogant – He has nothing to be arrogant about – He is really a big failure. How many years do we need to rebuild a team?. He has had 4 drafts and this is the best we can do? We must start to rebuild with a better personnel manager as our first priority or we will never get out of this cellar. Our second priority should be our O line, then the running game. Please get any receiver other than Wallace.

"I'm out. 42 years a Dolphin fan. I don't even have that much of a life, but I realized that spending even another weekend watching NFL football is a waste. I plan on dropping my Sunday Ticket that I've had for fifteen years as I live in South Dakota and rarely get to watch the Dolphins without it. I will either spend more time with my kids when I have them or read a book or watch a good movie when I don't."

I tip my hat to you, Sir! Respectfully.

Hey Ross, your fans are fleeing the eternally sinking ship...gonna do anything about it?

Wow...it sounds like a funeral in here, come on guys you all wanted Ireland out, so whats the big deal? We lose, but we gain, by losing Ireland. Ross didn't even mention his name once tonight, but I bet his name came up along with a page full of expletives about a 100 times tonight.

Team looked flat and disinterested all night, this team has lost its passion and fire. I guess the distractions of the past 11 or so days has fractured the team. The us against them I heard so much yesterday was more the team giving up on management and the coaching staff.

So now it seems like even if Ireland goes, Philbin is staying. I was never really sold on Tannehill, but I must confess that this time last year I thought Philbin was the right man for the job. I believe the man is a decent, honest man of integrity. I still really like the guy. I just don't see it anymore. Yes, Sherman's play calling and offensive strategy has been horrendous, but at some point Philbin has to step up and say to his old friend "enough is enough". Yet, I don't see it happening. It seems like this team can't even grasp basic game management and basic situational football. This is all coaching. Does anyone see a situation in which Ireland goes, but Philbin stays? As much as I like the guy personally, Philbin and the entire staff has to go. The ultimate problem is that we've suffered bad ownership do the last decade and as such, will never be a contender again. Thoughts?

Dolfan for 40+ years: I know a little something about this team!

1. Fire Ireland - Worst GM in football! He let Jake Long go?? Bush? Sean Smith? For the money, who would you rather have Wallace? or Long?
2. Fire Sherman..horrible play caller..predictable..
3. Cut/Trade Wallace, he sucks!!!!
4. Cut Carrol..he can't cover anyone consistently.
5. Devote free agency/Draft to building O-line..Pouncy the only one I would keep...if he's not in jail by next season.
6. Need new LB's that can tackle!
7. Need new corner opposite Grimes.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha~~

they should trade up for Mariota or Bridgewater and make Tannehill play WR

DC Dolfan and his sister Kris are a jinx to Fins!

You can't fire the GM and then tell a new GM that Philbin is going to be the coach. Only a second tier Cam Cameron type will go for that arrangement. Recall that Cam Cameron was forced to have Dom Capers as his DC. Any quality GM will want to bring in his own people. Would Ross buy a business if he were told as part of the deal he had to retain the companies CEO ? Ross has turned gold into s h i t with everything he has done since buying the team. Including tonight when he sounded like an utter buffoon when talking about the team, as per the usual. He simply has no credibility whatsoever. "Chad Henne is going to be the next Dan Marino." "I want a young Don Shula to be the next head coach." "New logo, new era." The guy is an imbecile. It's a fallacy to claim that because someone has wealth they are intelligent. Bernie Madoff and Scott Rothstein had an easy time of bilking millions of dollars from idiots just like Ross. Knowledge of real estate...you'd have to give him that. Knowledge about people, PR or how to run an NFL franchise ? The guy is clueless. I don't know that it ever gets any better under his ownership.

MESS
Irrelevant mess.
Thanks for the humiliating new feminine logo to brand our sensitive young team.
Ross is not a good owner.
Ireland is an absolute abhortion @ GM.
Philbin is a really nice guy...
Sherman has been fired from every football related job he has ever had.
Croyle is way over his head.
Turno(ver)hill is an NFL caliber back-up. Accuracy, leadership, pocket awareness, instinct - all have been noticeable issues from day 1 - and none have improved.
Maybe the worst OL ever assembled (BEFORE Babygate)!
Wallace = $60million? I can't even laugh.
New 'speed' LB'rs? Back-up to mid-level starters at best.
Dion Jordan...nice pick Jeff.
On & on..............................MESS
Sorry my brothers, fan since 70' - I'm out!
I wish it were that easy. I torture myself with this MESS year in-year out. And I can't stop. I love the Dolphins. I HATE what they've become.
Jimmie Johnson = public enema #1, it all started there.

We KNOW Ireland needs to go. I was going to give a pass to Philbin because 1 he's not the problem. 2 he hasn't been here long enough and 3. for continuity's sake.

However, 2 unforgivable losses - injury ravaged Buffalo at home after a bye week and winless Tampa. It's hard to make any excuses when teams around the league such as the Patriots and even the Bills and Jets are finding a way to win dealing with worse situations.

While I am speaking of the dreaded Jets and Bills. How is it that their Defenses are better than ours?? We are all complaining about the OL which is obviously bad but the defense can't stop anybody.

It's on Philbin to still win the games your supposed to win. As head coach your supposed to be able to properly evaluate talent - which he botched the OL in the off season sticking with Martin. And the more I look at it, he's trying to build a team around a mid level qb. I don't think we have found the answer at head coach or qb.

I think we get rid of Ireland, Philbin, the offensive line and bring in some competition for Tannehill.

Hey Ross. Do you want to flip the script and get the bang for the bucks your laying out????

Bill Cower

Go get him Ross - If you can.

He's what you need. And if you can't get him to come out of the tv studio, understand what he brings to the table.

3 things you know you will get 1. A power running game 2. Solid Defense. 3 Intensity.

So if you can't get Cower - get someone who brings those qualities.

Yes, it's a passing league but the pass is set up by a good running game and play action.

Philbin is gone, what he got was the dreaded vote of confidence, disguised. Ireland, I'm surprised he lasted this long, is gone; Dez Bryant, Brandon Marshal trade, Wallace disaster, drafting Martin, no trades or draft picks for an offensive lineman 2013; incompetence at a level commensurate with the Dolphins play.

Can someone convince Tannehill that when he says "Go" it's a pass and "Go-Go" is a run. Is he and Sherman too stupid to change that crap? And can Sherman move his receivers around, preferably Wallace.

keep in mind ross said he had confidence in sparano and flew out to clai to talk to harbaurgh. so i wouldnt b surprised if he or some of his ppl talked to gruden monday night. The season isnt totally over they are still n playoff hunt. but i just didnt see any fire last night.1. thill go, go-go needs to b changed. bucs keyed n on it every snap.with our oline being so bad we should b a read option team or at least run 5-10 plays a game and the underthrows of wallace is clearly noticeable.2. agreed wallace has to catch the ball when it hits his hands.plus move him around put him in different positions he always on the rightside. never in back field, slot or leftside.3. refs aremt helping us either another one or two questionable calls.

LOL.... www.DolphinsTruth.com

Wonderful Mr. Ross, promote Joe to social worker and hire a real, motivating, innovative coach!

GOOD BYE IRELAND! Time to start trading these over rated players. What a shameful team. BUMS!

All I have to say is look at Kansas City chief they where 2 &14 and are now 9 & 0 they brought in a new personal and got the job done the next season not even a year as to the dolphins they went 1 &15 2007 and are still in the same mess but worst how much longer are we suppose to wait ten more years or twenty more also look at the Carolina panthers they where 2 & 14 in 2010 they did it in three years and if I keep naming teams that where bad and improve in less than five years the list goes on this team has no heart starting with the coach and the gm Jeff Ireland is the biggest idiot and will never get a job in this league no one will hire this idiot and the owner is another idiot that took him so long to get advice from real talented people he should had done that when he bought the team

After a very tough week for this franchise things got tougher after losing to Tampa last Night it may be me but this are my observations on this team and everything start from the top
#1 Owner Ross can make every Dolphins fan a big favor
sell the Team " PRONTO PLEASE "
#2 GM Ireland should had been fired after the Dez Bryant
fiasco this MIDGET has a huge EGO LIKE HIS MENTOR
Bill Parcell
#3 HC Philbin is maybe a good man but as a HC he has
no emotion and no balls to take the play calling
From his friend Sherman
#4 The Defense was totally Flat in the first 3 drive
Honestly any other team would had been 24 pts up
instead of 15
#5 Mike Wallace is a no show on that last Throw he
Didn't even make an attempt to go for the ball
#6 why was Cameron Wake on the sideline in obvious
passing situations ( again Coaching mistakes )
#7 Wheeler may a very stupid penalty with the game
on the line ( again Coaching put his ass on the
bench ) he is getting paid big money
#8 OFF Line is a joke they can't run block or Pass
Block they are terrible
#9 No Running Game Miller / Thomas not doing anything
but OL need to open holes for them
#10 The only positive was the play Of R Mathews at WR
And B Grimes at CB which by the way has been the
best FA signing for this team this year.
our chances for the playoff are less now specially after a great start of 3-0 losing to the Bills and Tampa will cost us big time anyway I think this team needs to fired both Ireland and Philbin and the majority of the coaching staff because we have talent on this team but they are a flat team when it come to emotion the Defense should be top 10 and maybe even top 5 but they are not playing to their potential
once again a NEW COACHING STAFF AND GM AND HOPEFULLY NEW OWNER WILL BE MUCH BETTER FOR ALL OF US DOLPHINS FANS

When there is a big MESS in your life you do one of two things:
Live with/in it
Clean it up
Balls in your court Mr. Ross....

Yeah you fans are ridiculous. Lets play the games out before you call for a clean house. Tired of all the BS.
