Dolfans planning a MetLife Takeover

You have no nidea how many Dolphins home games I've covered where the other team's visiting crowd has become an embarrassment to the Dolphins' organization and actually a problem for the team on the field. (StubHub, quite frankly, is not a friend of the Miami Dolphins ticket office). Pittsburgh games come to mind. Even in the early 1990s, Buffalo fans seemed to turn late-season games between the Dolphins and Bills into something of a vacation.

Well, this weekend a hearty group of Dolphins fans -- approximately 760 strong -- will be taking over practically every seat in section 322 and 323 at MetLife Stadium while the Dolphins visit the Jets.

They're calling it a MetLife Takeover. You know the thing's a big deal when it has its own hashtag and Facebook page ... #MetLifeTakeover.

This is the second year that a group of NYC Dolfans get together to attend this game. Last year, there were 200 fans who participated. So the growth in the group is palatable.

The group will tailgate in Lot L before the game starting at around 9:15 a.m. The group is arriving in four buses as well as other assorted vehicles. Last year, team owner Stephen Ross visited the tailgate. No word whether he might make another appearance this year.

The Dolphins in many respects remain a national team. Fans who grew up in Dan Marino's heyday or got close to the team during the Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor era are buying tickets now around the country as well as in South Florida.

If you wish to join the event go to the Facebook page or find @DolfanNYC on twitter.

I'm sure Jets fans love this.

Consider the event in 2012

D29 - no doubt that the spine of teh Dolphins fanbase is not in South Florida - it's the out of tough, out of towners!!

We fight for our Dolphins when we aren't ice fishing or bowling...

his #metlifetakeover thing that's posted on the twitter field on the left is pretty awesome, I must say.

ONCE AGAIN I BROKE THE NEWS FIRST

Dmitri out again?
WTF?

Good observation - Wallace is not a jump ball receiver.

Seeing how good Tannehill is with Hartline and Gibson, I think he and Marshall would have been unstoppable.

Mark in Toronto

Yes that is true as the numbers at games bore that out, but i still think its embarassing that people who live in that city and surrounding area should man up and show their passion. Sorry i cant make any excuses for them not to show up. The team went out and spent a huge fortune to show the fans the organization is doing everything it can to put a winner on the field. Yes sometimes that approach doesnt work but as we see in other cities, even when the team is down and out, fans still sell out the place. Football is huge in the state of florida, yet fans just dont show up. If the team ever leaves S. Florida it wont surprise me in the least. I live in Hamilton Ontario Canada and have followed this team to over 10 different cities when they are good and bad. South florida fans have no excuse other than they arnt true fans.

ETF, u still farting?

I think you said it all there D29, there are some very good football fans in south Florida but overall the sports fanbase is front running and pure bandwagon. The locals are all trumpeting up the heat now and they are a great franchise and this is how it's done, yadda yadda yadda, but two years before they signed everyone in sight, they stunk and the building was empty.

There are very few real sports fans in the area. Supporting a front running team is not being a sports fan, it's being a douchebag.

D Thomas, worst draft bust ever?
Posted by: CadillacDeVille | November 29, 2013 at 12:55 PM

Not even close, though he is a bust for sure.

How can anyone still be a fan of this "team"?

Plus all of us fans who will be at the game in other sections of the stadium! Dolphins better not blow this...even if they miss the playoffs (which they probably will...), just win this game!

How can anyone still be a fan of this "team"?

Posted by: Nat Moore | November 29, 2013 at 03:29 PM

Easy, bitching about your team is half the fun of being a fan.

Supporting a front running team is not being a sports fan, it's being a douchebag.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 29, 2013 at 03:20 PM

Supporting a winning franchise/team is being a good consumer. Supporting a crap product like the Dolphins is being a bad consumer. Why pay for such a crap product??

I look no further than the likes of Seattle and New orleans. These teams protect home field due in large part to the 12th man. Dont south floridians get it that you can make a difference for your team on sundays when u infact show up to the games. Im a heat fan as well and yes long before the Lebron circus came to town. Im a Lebron fan but dont base my interest in the team based on titles won. Obviously fans in south florida dont know any better.

How can anyone still be a fan of this "team"?

Posted by: Nat Moore | November 29, 2013 at 03:29 PM

And so you post here all week, every week for what other reason?

Nat Moore

Your team isnt always going to be on top or chasing titles year in and year out. you support them because its a passion or your showing your pride in the city you live and the team that resides there. You talk about product on the field. The team went and spent the money to excite the fans. i would call the product badas much as not preforming as expected. Still you cant agrue your a true fan when you only show up when times are good. Being a real diehard fan is being there for all the ups and downs downs

that should read. I wouldnt call the product bad as much as not preforming to the level we all thought

Its a lot more fun going to games when you have a winning team. Losing every year is boring.

Diehard fans are idiots IMO. Why support a crap franchise?

Nat @ 3:34. Proved my point to a tee. Sports is not like buying a pair of jeans or eating at a certain restaurant. it is not a conscious decision or a choice. When you are a fan, you are committed. It's more like having kids. Some excel and are easy to support and some are a bitter disappointment but you love them anyway.

Of course the goal is to be a winning franchise. Not sure i get the boring aspect. If you love football and being around the game, as well as your passion in the team you root for then bordom should never factor in. If it does then you were never a fan to begin with.

Diehard fans are your core fans. Without them teams eventually have more empty seats than filled. Its the diehard fan who who represents no matter what. Sure we get frustrated when the team isnt winning all the time but we stick with it. Im sure your a fan of the heat right now as they are winning. Once Lebron packs his bags then the bordom will surely set in for you and all other banwagon fans

Why you interested?

You are all idiots for responding to the obvious trolls like Nat Moore and others.

Wake the fkkk up and learn to see who is here only to get you to jump at the snap of their finger.

And so you post here all week, every week for what other reason?

Posted by: ? | November 29, 2013 at 03:39 PM

I've been boycotting the Fins since the Dez Bryant incident. I wont go back until after

1) They win a playoff game

or

2) Ireland is fired

Monte = Nat Moore = Zonk

When you are a fan, you are committed. It's more like having kids. Some excel and are easy to support and some are a bitter disappointment but you love them anyway.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 29, 2013 at 03:51 PM

Nah, with kids you dont have a choice. Fans in a free country have a choice which team/product they want to support.

Monte, could you please add this web site to your boycott list?

Posted by: Nat Moore | November 29, 2013 at 04:02 PM

Yes you do have a choice to do most anything in a free country which includes what team you cheer for. However turning it off and on like a light switch again only shows your a fair weather fan or jump on and off the bandwagon when times are good. My point is fans in Miami should be passionate and diehard because thats the city they live in and for better or worse the Dolphins are the home town team

You forget oscar, Daytona, and ETF....lol

Tell that to the Canadians, Montana, NJ, and all the the other out of towners on here. You are saying they are all wrong.

You out of state fans do realize going to games are not free, right?
Tank of gas........$45
Sideline tickets $240-$375 per
Parking............$25
Beer...............$8 per

Stephen Ross looks like my constipated end.

I don't know why were not a good team. Jet fans can be very nasty and abusive.

I owned seasons from up here one year when I was working four day weeks and could take Mondays off...

The 12TH MAN is only a BENEFIT when having a GOOD team.

Otherwise the HOME STADIUM is only filled with 75,000 MUTES.

My son and I will be down by the Phins tunnel! Been there four straight years with my son, this will be my 30th Phins vs Jets game total in NJ! Nothing like sitting with bottomfeeder jet fans!

Anyway, in Stae NY'ers could care less what out of State NY'ers are doing. Many are happy the out of State NY'ers have left.

Doubt Dolfans can takeover MetLife. Any fool living in Florida wants no parts of NY. Especially this time of year.

Former NY'ers want no part of NY this time of year.

I root for the Heat, Marlins, Panthers, and whatever team is playing the Dolphins

Add 3 more dolfans to the group.... We will be at MetLife traveling from Miami!

Woodshed, that last pass at the end that Wallace couldn't secure was one of the nicest passes I've ever seen. 60 yards, on the run, flick of the wrist and it gets down to the end zone on a rope. It was a stunning thing to see. But Wallace can't make the tough catch consistently.

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 29, 2013 at 02:17 PM
-------------------------------------------

Seriously....SERIOUSLY?????

That is one of the nicest passes you have ever seen.....my GOD....when did you start watching football...last Sunday?

That pass sucked....had Wallace twisting in the wind....

The only thing that sucked more than that pass....was that Wallace didn't hold on for the grab...he did get two hands on it after all....

But to consider that WRONG shoulder pass one of the "nicest" you have seen.....

Well that clears up a lot....

Wallce SHOULD have caught it....and if Tanne throws it better...he probably does...

stfu nat moore get the coc out of ur face long enough to realize u r a shite fan who hides a vag in ur pants. you sad little pus boy all u do is whine like a school girl on her period. u hate the team and dont want to support them but u spend every day in a fan blog. just shut ur stupid effing mouth or someone will shut it for u got it sausage breath? thank u for ur unwavering support of the team by contributing to our blog.every single day. u are showing the team ur support by coming in here mary and rso dumb u dont see it. way to not support the team tard.

Posted by: Just so you brain dead bloggers know | November 29, 2013

Pompous ass who uses a million different sign in names because he doesn't have a shred of integrity, just so you wonderful bloggers know.

It's a fact confirmed by several studies that interest in The Dolphins is waning. Dolphins tickets and merchandise sales are down 17.1%, that's top 20 in all of sports and #1 among NFL teams. Not only has the team been irrelevant for ten years, but they've been boring to watch as well. Wannstedt, Saban, Sporano were all run and play defense, punt on 4th and 1 types, try to win 13 to 9. Fans have hit the exits in droves. Now add to this a doucheb@g owner who sticks his foot in his mouth every time he opens it. An owner who also crapped on the team's tradition with his USFL logo and uniforms change. The only people left are those who are starved for entertainment (no lifer "true fans") and people who need an excuse to get out of the house, like people up in NYC who are going for the social club more than the poor product on the field. Some of us have better things to do with our time. I go to the gym to work out, not socialize, that's the draw for these idiots. The Dolphins are an embarrassment...at this point everyone knows it.

5-9 with a loss this Sunday.

Hip hip horray.

Darkoak | November 29, 2013 at 07:11 PM

In all fairness though, you do feed the obvious trolls. I don't know why you waste your time and the blog's time with them. It only keeps them coming back for more.

I'm sorry Mark....you are probably gone....so I will say this in hopes that you see it tomorrow.....and then I will STFU about it.....

When you make blatant biased post (like the "nicest pass" post).....it just hurt your ability to be considered objective in this Tanne debate....

It's post like that that give credence to Daytona's "blind homer" crap.....

If you saw that INCOMPLETE pass from any other QB in the league....you would never mention it again....except perhaps to make fun of it...or the QB......

If Wallace did happen to catch it.....those that Are NOT blind homers would only talk about the sensational catch....and how Wallace had to look over both shoulders to do so....

Look @ it this way.....

If CAM newton had made that exact same bad pass to Steve smith....and Smith missed it....would then...5 days later...... be talking a out how the fins dodged a bullet because Smith dropped the "nicest pass" you ever saw against us.....

I highly doubt you would.....

That is the metric I would use when talking about a pass to a open WR who some how got 2 yards behind the coverage.....when EVERYBODY AND THIER MOMMA KNEW HE WAS GOING DEEP.......

How is that for impressive.....not bad for a "bad route runner"....

Thats peanuts compared to the 35,000 Jets fans that go to the Sun Life stadium games.

Anyone who lived in Mioamni during the 60's through 80's would know that during that time, more folks from up north moved to Miami than were BORN in Miami.
When I went to UM in the latter 60's, 1/3 of our student body was from NY, NJ, and Pennsylvania.
Mi-am-uh was NEVER really a southern city, etc for the "pork-choppers" who moved down for gigs.

Sorry, "lived in Miami"

who to believe kris the know it all know nothing or mark duper who said wallace should have never slowed down and if the ball hits ur hands u have to catch it. he twisted himself last secon kris u tellin us he didnt pick up the trajectory of the ball until it was 50 yards down the field! u n ur excuses for wallace is he an nfl receiver making millions as one of the highest paid in the league n ur tellin us it dsnt matter if it hits his hands it has to be a perfect pass, ur tellin us hes not good enough toadjust his feet wen he has that much time. no excuses for any of them kris ucant just protect ur favs, they are all responsible!

Fu.....

Perhaps you don't comprehend to well.....

Let's try this again.....

Pay special attention to the time date stamp.....

.it just hurt your ability to be considered objective in this Tanne debate....

Posted by: Kris | November 29, 2013 at 07:30 PM

And when was Kris ever remotely objective in the Tannehill debate? He hated the pick from day one, and only shows up to point out where he did poorly, never ever where he did well. Tannehill has made some great clutch throws, has pulled out some wins in the clutch final minutes, he started off 3-0, and yet Kris has yet to find an objective second for praise, only objective minutes to remind us where he failed.

Nor does Kris even want to point out he is behind the worst oline in the history of the franchise, where who knows if any QB could do better under the same conditions.

Objective my azzzz.

@721 its a fact confirmed by many studies,,,,

This line right here proves this guy has no friends. Is it any wonder he doesn't understand why people would want to get together and root for their team good or bad? He doesn't get fandom or friendships. very stunted socially, thyats why he cant even find friends in an anonymous blog, he has to make up names and pretend hes friemnds wiith himself. makes a person want to cry to find out these individuals exist and their only pleasure is ruining fun times for normal human beings. What an a-hole

Frye....

When you are ready to post truth....then I can address you on a level playing field....

You insist on being a name changing half-truth poster....

Then....more power to you...

didnt see tht kris sorry! yes, they both are reponsible for their part

Thanks fu....

Looks like we just got off on the wrong foot....

As a professional.....Wallace should make the catch.....

My major complain is just how my day time buddy Mark characterizes the pass....

Pass was not that great....

That's really all I am saying...

people in nyc need an excuse to get out of the house he says. uR on crack. i take it you have never been to nyc, ive been there a few times and if u think theres nothing to do in one of the biggest cities in the world ur as stupid as u sound. theres so much to do but there only excuse to leave the house is the dolphins. u obviously live in florida, dumbest people in the country worse than louisiana dumb

ur right, ive seen better passes out of highschool qbs

When you are ready to post truth....then I can address you on a level playing field....

Posted by: Kris | November 29, 2013 at 07:50 PM

The playing field is level. Truth is what I posted. Now if that is not true, prove me wrong by showing us an earlier post where you praised something Tannehill has done.

Hey if you want to claim you are objective, you have to back it up. We are not flower pots here.

Also don't give me this name changing nonsense that you give to everyone else. You already know my name and have seen it before.

I wanted Pennington as Tannehill's QB coach..

Please Mr. Ross it is not too late.

Get Pennington.....
