Dolphins beat Jets 23-3, still alive

East Rutherford, N.J. -- This was a butt kicking.

Even when the Dolphins led 6-0 at halftime, the Dolphins were dismantling the Jets -- holding a 265-39 edge in total yards and a 16-2 edge on first downs.

And then the Dolphins actually added points.

Ryan Tannehill, who had a fine game. He completed 28 of 43 (65.1 percent) for 331 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. His QB rating was 94.2. (I told you he could get hot in December).

He found Brian Hartline for a 31 yard score.

The QB found Mike Wallace on a 28-yard score off a screen.

And the defense, which had shut down Geno Smith in the first half, continued its dominance. Backup Matt Simms was no better after he took over a benched Smith. Simms threw two interceptions. Dannell Ellerbe and Brent Grimes had the picks.

Olivier Vernon had 2 1/2 sacks.

It was, as Joe Philbin, likes to say, a complete team win.

Did the Dolphins show some flaws? Well, yeah.

They still can't score a TD on third-and-gaol from the one yard line. They still can't get an offensive TD in the fourth quarter.

But today that didn't matter. The Jets look done.

The Dolphins are alive.

DD, good point at 5:40. It seems to me Tanny waits for guys too get open, instead of trusting they WILL be and letting thus ball go. Again, I HAVE to believe this is a coaching thing, meaning his QB coach.

Sam I Am has been saying this for weeks....Tannehill lacks ANTICIPATION. Give credit where credit is due.

ImaWriter pulled up Vernon's season stats, he has 10.5 for the season and there are 4 games left to play. The stats also show he had 10 tackles 2.5 sacks today.

That's 4.5 sacks in the last 2 games alone. He had 2 sacks against the Panthers last week.

Should we start calling him Genobust, GenoSanchez. Either way that`s back to back flops at QB for the Jerks, I mean Jets.

sam i am and hes a product of the U

couldnt agree more ima, the 4th down pass to ireland was wide open and he waited way to long

Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 01, 2013 at 05:48 PM

LOL, I assume you meant Hartline? Ireland was a kicker, I believe.

wouldnt surprise me to see jets reach and draft manziel

Lets give the offense credit today, the Jets D is very good. Our early drives in this game even though we didn't get points took the steam out of that D and made sure our D was fresh and aggressive all DAY. we WON THAT GAME MORE THAT THE jets LOST IT.

Remaining Ravens sch....Vikings. Lions. Pats. Bengals.

Yeah Bill,
I like the roll out and they need it more, especially against the agressive Defense they will see next week. I think they work on a few fly passes to Wallace that way when he one on one and PalaHair boy creeps up to the line. I also think we just keep BigBen in the pocket with a spy, maybe Wheeler some one big enough to knock him on his Arse. We need to fake a punt on 3rd and 1 or 2 at least once. If we open up the passing the run game certainly will follow. Gillisee needs more touches. Clay is a beast when out in flats or seam routes. A heavy pass mix will loosen this Defense up. We should have beat the Ravens and they beat The Steelers last week all be it at home.
They can be had.
Go Miami!

Most well played, coached, an executed (except in goal-to-go) Phin games I've watched in a while...in all three phases.

And Tanne has had been looked very steady in the intermediate passing game, these past two weeks.

Job well done, team.

Thx Bill for the props. Tanne is taking small steps in getting better. If he were a finished product he probably complete 70% of his passes for 450yds and 4 tds today.

The scary thing is the numbers he put up today and is still far from a finished product. 'm beginning to see the upside that was predicted for him coming in. He'll struggle at times, but so does a plant when pushing up from underneath the ground.

..It is hard to believe that the team we beat today..Beat both the Pats, an the Saints...WTF?

The Ravens last two games are against teams that will be resting their starters. They very well may run the table and keep us out.

Vernon is rounding into a good player.
Posted by: Darkoak | December 01, 2013 at 05:40 PM

Better than good, 10.5 sacks are pro bowl caliber numbers.

Scary thing is he still has 4 games left to play.

yeah darrly i think rex ryan is gone. that team is so bad.

The Steelers play a 3-4 D and 2 deep coverage on most downs. They have PalaHair boy creep up on scheme blitzes and drop a LB into coverage and this is when Tannehill has to read this at the line and change the play at the line to a 9 route to Wallace....just let it fly and let Wallace run under it.

I told you at .500 with a dominate win. Tannehill commanded the offense. These Dolphins are going to win out.

it's too early to get into this but:

Ravens will have a disinterested Bengals team if the Bengals win their next 3. So the Ravens last game may be a walkover, which will hurt the Fins.
Dolphins last 3 games divisional, tougher because of that. Last game against the Jets. Pats will have the division locked up, but will be playing for position, so they don't have to play the chiefs in KC. No picnic, unfortunately.
Edge to the Ravens, + the tie breaker.

Good post Darrly

edson miami will keep thmeselves out. but ravens play at cincy and home vs pats, neither of those would be resting starters. cincy might be only a game up on ravens after today. pats fighting for homefield

I hear you but Ireland has made some good moves. He gets a lot of criticism but who would you change on the defense? He has built a heck of a line. Vernon was a steal in the 3rd round (10 1/2 sacks). Jordan will be a beast.

Ireland has also found very good receivers. Next year they will have Gibson and Binns back. Ireland has build the receiving unit. He found Clay in the 6th round and Miller in the 4th. The offensive line still needs to be built but with the coaching change they went from a power line to a zone blocking finesse line; that is why I am giving Ireland a pass on the offensive line.

I can't lie I enjoyed the second half of todays game. I'm not getting caught in the trap though.

Need to see a big win against the Steelers first.

I do think you have to give the coaching staff some kudos considering the Cogs / Martin circus and the way they've kept the team playing hard.

Ireland's sorry arse should be on the phone with Grimes's agent right now.

When Ryan caught a glimpse of the foot, dildo and his wife, he popped a rod and all the blood flowed away from his brain.

With 10.5 sacks, Vernon now has the full attention of every OC we'll now play. They now know Wake isn't the only thing that will cause them worry.

Vernon has now made the game plan hit list against opposing opponents.

You have come a long way on Tannehill...I appreciate your honesty. You make great points day in and day out on here and you are 100% correct about today. If and when TH gets a RB, TE and OL to protect him games like today will have numbers like you stated.

lets hope we lose so we get a new gm and hc.

Dumbass post of the day.

miami at pitt will be the worst loss left on schedule. pitt dominates at home lately. that game may end up ugly

Philbin is on the plane watching "I am ok, you're ok".

It looks to me that RT anticipates the short and mid range passes right on the money. He has been hitting Hartline Gibson Clay and before Keller perfectly. It is specifically the deep ball where he becomes tentative and late.

Dear Fin Fans, just want to say Buh Bye to your season today.
Have a hot dog on me :)

dusty if Rex Ryan is fired, I would love for him to be our new DC.

agree bodine

Great win today guys. Hopefully they can clean it up a little bit against Pitt. Vernon is a beast with 10 or 10.5 sacks this year with 4 games to go. Tannehill looked really good. Still room for improvement.

Marco do you want some hot sauce with your crow? Not sure if your a troll but you should enjoy a bit of crow this week.

O-line and running game battled and the D was solid including Grimes, Wake, Vernon, Ellerbee.

big time sam i am but i dont see it. hes a head coach now and some smart team will hire him

This guy probably tells his wife there is no way in hellll she is going to come tonight.

Yeppers, that IS a tough schedule. If the Lions game is away, Ravens win, as Lions don't play as well out of the dome. I think Saints get smoked Monday night at Seattle for the same reason.
Yes, DD, how does this Jets team beat both the Pats and the Saints. Inexplicable. even in this iteration of the NFL.

its crazy ima balt at det mnf

its c u m musty bet bills are tired of throwing home games away to play in toronto, sure helpes falcons today

dusty IS the wife.

I cannot believe that this is the same Dusty Bottoms. I cannot remember him being so negative in the past.

The Steelers are not a great team. The fins can beat them. Our defense is hot right now. Vernon is on fire. The biggest worry I have with the fins right now is the dreaded 3rd and 1. They need to find a way to convert on short yardage plays.

Let's get behind this team!

they can def beat them, anyone can win any game in nfl. just an opinion orlando, i think pitt is very very tough at home. took out balt and det last 2

This is the best all season long that the oline run blocked and pass protected well all in the same game.

If this can continue or the remainder of the season, along with the defense playing well, I like our chances to win our final 4 games.

Then, if this continues into the playoffs, there's more than enough talent on this team to make some real noise.

man denver is good. with homefield they should cruise to sb, but i think seattle will beat them

KC giving Denver all they want right now.

Dustybrain are u already picking against the Phins again. Man you are an awful fan. How'd your pick workout today? LOL

I have a lot of faith in this D right now.

Jordan is playing a lot and Carroll and Wheeler are not getting burned. Hopefully Patterson will be ok down the stretch, he does make INT"S.

Coyle was under fire a few weeks ago but look how the D has responded. if the Offense could have just done a little in the second half last week we would not have to worry about that last Panther drive.

..Orlando. I agree. This isn't a very good Pittsburg team. There is no reason to think that this is just an automatic loss because it is Pittsburg. Screw them.

The 3rd and short conversions have been an issue all year. 2 weeks ago I posted our attempts. How many were passes how many were runs. And how many we converted. I'll go back and add to those figures and re-post the stats..The qualifiers I used were 3rd and 4th downs and yardgages of 2 or less yards. I can't remember the exact totals off the top of my head. They were bad.

Hope for Denver to win their division because I don't want to see them in the WC round.

Don't look now but Brian Hartline is 196 yards away from 1000 yards. This was another great pick by Ireland, 4th round.

You have to give players a chance to develop. I do not focus on rookies. I see too many people judging Ireland based on this draft but we do not know how good this year's draft will be. Take last year's draft as an example. Would anyone have guessed that with 4 games to go Vernon would have 10.5 sacks? Rishard Mathews has come along nicely, Tannehill has improved from last year, and even Egnew is contributing. You have to have patience. You cannot keep changing regimes every couple of years.

here is the Ravens schedule:

Dec 08 MIN @ BAL M&T Bank Stadium 1:00 PM FOX

Dec 16 BAL @ DET Ford Field 8:40 PM ESPM

Dec 22 NE @ BAL M&T Bank Stadium 8:30 PM NBC

Dec 29 BAL @ CIN Paul Brown Stadium 1:00 PM CBS

This team is the epitome of mediocrity. 6-6 and they've outscored their opponents by 4 points on the season. They've got 8-8 written all over them, but maybe this season that'll actually be good enough for the playoffs. Maybe...

A total housecleaning is still needed though. If the Fins finish with 8 wins or less and miss the playoffs they absolutely, positively CANNOT keep everything the same.

I agree that the Jets just flat out gave up out there, and I cannot recall the last time I saw them do that against the Fins. '86 maybe?

Jets run game went downhill when Shonn Green went to the Titans.
The Fins have not been great against the run as they were last year.
If I see 2 straight games by our run D then I'll be totally on board. Remember, the lack of a jets passing game made it easier for the Fins D to defend the run.

Won't be that way against the Steelers. If Ben scrambles, that could pose problems against guys like Carroll who lose focus on extended plays.

I hope RT is watching Peyton throw the long ball tonight. A work of art.

Hartline was a Parcells pick as well. 5th year, Ireland only in charge for 4 drafts.
Or am I wrong here?
BTW, Bodine, i'd rather face Peyton, especially in the winter, flutter ball, and his less than stellar playoff record.
Yes, being highly op-tomistic here. LOL

Wrong Mask, I see a very talented team over coming a lot on and off the field. Things are going to really start clicking...

If Tannehill can continue what he did today and not have negative plays in the run game. Right now a 2 or 3 yard run is great for us. As long as we don't have minus runs we can pass with anyone....

Ok Bill,

Thill next year has to be given a RB with quality and power. I do admit that he has had to carry the offense on his young shoulders with little or no threat from our RB's.

Given a top 15 RB at least he could use the play action and slow down that non stop pass rush.

The pass protection for Thill has been terrible too, whilst Lamar Miller is still a project to be honest and I would prefer him as the back-up to a bigger back.

Thomas should be cut and replaced by a rookie from the top half of the draft. Ireland has not come through as a scout of talent too well. We shall see my friend ?

Posted by: Marco. | November 26, 2013 at 06:12 PM

More proof that Marco is a TROLL that only comes here to start trouble.

Sorry Orlando but your making me a little nauseous with the Ireland praise.

I agree Vernon, Hartline, Odrick, and I'll even give you Clemmons and Jones looking good but Egnew?? C'mon.

Still a little early for me to slobber all over Ireland.

Actions speak louder than words.

Martin's season is done. Cog's isn't.

Never believe anything a coach or GM says to the media.

Wow, have to take the flutter ball comment back, I guess.
Game is still young though.

Steelers stole a game from the Fins last year? (or year before?)
The Rothlisberger phantom TD.

I'd love to see some Fins payback.

I expect a huge game from Wallace coming back to Pittsburg. He is going to want to show them they made a mistake for letting him go. The Steelers have a bad secondary and the fins need to take advantage of it.
