Dolphins beat Jets 23-3, still alive

East Rutherford, N.J. -- This was a butt kicking.

Even when the Dolphins led 6-0 at halftime, the Dolphins were dismantling the Jets -- holding a 265-39 edge in total yards and a 16-2 edge on first downs.

And then the Dolphins actually added points.

Ryan Tannehill, who had a fine game. He completed 28 of 43 (65.1 percent) for 331 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. His QB rating was 94.2. (I told you he could get hot in December).

He found Brian Hartline for a 31 yard score.

The QB found Mike Wallace on a 28-yard score off a screen.

And the defense, which had shut down Geno Smith in the first half, continued its dominance. Backup Matt Simms was no better after he took over a benched Smith. Simms threw two interceptions. Dannell Ellerbe and Brent Grimes had the picks.

Olivier Vernon had 2 1/2 sacks.

It was, as Joe Philbin, likes to say, a complete team win.

Did the Dolphins show some flaws? Well, yeah.

They still can't score a TD on third-and-gaol from the one yard line. They still can't get an offensive TD in the fourth quarter.

But today that didn't matter. The Jets look done.

The Dolphins are alive.

Post of the night!

I may not know much but I know no one wants to play the Dolphins.

Has Irescum been fired yet?

"Those saying T'hill left 14pts on the field. This is actually a POSITIVE not negative when considering its NO SECRET he still has lots of room for improvement."

Spin it any way you want, but it has been going on since training camp, he cannot hit the long ball. When he does it's almost an accident, or the receiver has stopped and gone back to get it. Some guys have it, some don't. But you aren't going to be a big time QB in this league throwing a hundred 15 yard passes forever.

As long as he is completing the majority of those 15 yard passes we are OK. You only need 10 yds for a 1st down. Just win baby!

I am more concerned about not being able to get 1 yd on 1st down. The running game has to improve for this team to be successful in the future.

I am a big fan of Tannehill and believe that he is been getting a raw deal but this was not a good game for him despite the two TD and the 94 QB rating. Thill was way off the mar with passes to Matthews and Hartline and was lucky he did not get intercepted. The two TDs were due to great runs by WRs. The throws were OK but nothing great. The best play by Thill was the run to avoid a sack. This was a good team win, but not the best game that Tannehill has played by s long shot.

Of the 7 TDs manning threw in his first game of the season, weren't most on screens or throws under 10yds?i don't recall Broncos fans being concerned about his deep ball.

ASPD sufferer right here, plain as day.

deception, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;

Callous unconcern for the feelings of others;

Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations;

Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them;

Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence;

Incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, particularly punishment;

Marked readiness to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior that has brought the person into conflict with society.

Idk abt this thread, Darkoak, but you just described my cheating lesbian soon to be ex-wife.

Ok Bill,

Thill next year has to be given a RB with quality and power. I do admit that he has had to carry the offense on his young shoulders with little or no threat from our RB's.

Given a top 15 RB at least he could use the play action and slow down that non stop pass rush.

The pass protection for Thill has been terrible too, whilst Lamar Miller is still a project to be honest and I would prefer him as the back-up to a bigger back.

Thomas should be cut and replaced by a rookie from the top half of the draft. Ireland has not come through as a scout of talent too well. We shall see my friend ?

She is a TROLL just like FIRE ROSS KILL MARTIN JAIL POUNCEY and Franchise Of The Fallen all the same person

How long has Tannehill played at the QB position??? Maybe four to five years total? He's still got a lot of upside left in his development.

I believe once he learns to hit the deep pass consistently he'll be an upper tier QB in the NFL.

He's shown me a lot of poise so far this year with a revolving door at OL, high sacks, limited running game...

I'm one who said THill left points on the field. The problem with leaving points between the lines is it has cost us at least 2 games this year. While I admire your optimistic outlook about his development, I am a realist. I live in the here and now. I'm not patient. I've been through too many QB's and bad coaches with this franchise. When I see a QB not developing quickly enough it disheartens me. Tired of waiting!

Any time you beat the Jets, it's a good day.

I don't go by every single one of those aliases!

Tannehill left points on the field? What QB does not?

The Jets suck? Tell the Saints and the Pats.

I think we have 95% of the pieces. Which is all any team had. Getting them in sync has been the problem. Let's see how it plays in Pittsburgh.

Beat the Steers/Pats then closing out the season with 4 straight in is a wrap.

Especially considering he Bills always have the bags packed in December, and the Jets, we saw today.

Ryan Tannehill = Chad Henne. They can win a few games but they basically stink.

Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin wanted to release Richie Incognito in 2012 after the offensive lineman was accused of harassing a volunteer during the team's charity golf tournament, sources close to the league's investigation of the team told ESPN.

Philbin's wish to release Incognito in May 2012 was one of the more telling pieces of information revealed during hours of interviews recently conducted by independent investigator Ted Wells, according to sources.

The extension of Richie Incognito's suspension was the best thing for the player and the Dolphins, James Walker writes.

Philbin, who had been hired by the Dolphins in January 2012, made it known to others in the organization after the golf event that he believed the right move was to move on from Incognito, sources told ESPN.

But Philbin's wishes were overruled, and Incognito remained with the Dolphins, according to sources.

WOW! And some here believes Ireland/Philbin makes personnel moves jointly.

I guess his proves hat isn't necessarily so.

Sam I Am--

I am going to put peppermints on your eyelids while you sleep tonight!

Just think where we could be had not a coward, went awol and deserted his team. Kudos to the guys still fighting.

Next Up:

Pittsburgh Steelers

Then Pats, Bills, Jets

You forgot the most apropo one, "Idiots". That best describes his family tree, shallow end of the gene pool for sure.

I don't see beating the Pats, but the rest is doable.

Bill, you are the one who said you wanted men to sukkk your dikkkk, on page one of this blog.

"But you aren't going to be a big time QB in this league throwing a hundred 15 yard passes forever."

Tell that to Joe Montana, dork.

Great win. While we're not as good as we need to be, it does show the difference between the Fins and a team that's not even close. Sturgis needs to see a sports shrink or something. The guy has talent, but his head is all screwed up now. Thill is a good qb, and hopefully can become very good. However, he did try to aim the 4 the down throw to Hartline deep. Come on Thill, don't overthink the deep ball. Let er rip

Olivier Vernon is becoming a Jets killer.

Special Thanks to my Phins for putting a fork in the Jets season and possibly ending the Jets career of Rex...there is chaos in Jestsland.

Love the fact the Fins clobbered the Jets at home. Rex is done like dinner.

The Jets aren't a charming underdog story anymore. They're an underdog with fleas, having been outscored 79-20 in the past three games. From espn. LOL...an underdog with fleas? BA HA HA.

It feels great to get a convincing win. It even better when it comes at the Jets expense.

this really was a great win! I know the Jets played poorly today but I think the Fins had a lot to do with their level of play in that we caused them to play so badly. Let's give our Fins a little more credit - they beat a Jet's team in NY that has wins over N Orleans and N England.

Nice win but Thill will have to play better against better teams or we go no where, I think he can but I need to see it before I run out and get a Thill jersey.
Much tougher game this week at Steelers.

Anyone that thinks Tannehill had a good game is really missing it. He missed 3-4 wide open deep receivers in the first half. the 2 TD's he got were from great plays by the receivers and horrible tackling on the defense.

Should have gone for it on 4th & goal on the 1 INSTEAD OF SETTLING FOR 3!!! should have been 30-3. Philbin has NO go for the throat mentality. Love the beat down of the Junk Jets NOW WIN OUT!!!

Lots of us think Thrill had a great game. So why bother going there. He will never be perfect. He simply helped win game for us...sorry if that ain't enough for some of you.

The Tannehill hate is so stupid. Like Peyton Manning and Drew Brees never miss a receiver or throw a bad pass.

The kid isn't perfect, but he's talented, and he's learning. We'd be 3-9 without him.

We beat the Jets in their house, we cannot have a better weekend, let's celebrate. But please keep an things in perspective, we're only 6-6 and need help to get the 2nd WC spot. The team has been through a lot the past month and has shown some backbone getting the RI-JM crap behind them. This season could turn out to be something special to build on or another year end house cleaning, time will tell.
Still nice to see our guys putting the Jets season on the rocks. Party well my friends!
