Dolphins beat Steelers, still alive in playoff chase

PITTSBURGH -- Milestone day for these Dolphins.

They not only beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 34-28, but so many other things happened that affect this season that we need a list:

The Ravens lost to Minnesota. The Ravens beat the Vikings after the teams traded four TDs in 82 seconds. That means the Dolphins still trail for the sixth and final playoff qualifier for the AFC playoffs. The Ravens remain ahead of the Dolphins in the playoff chase despite having the same 7-6 record because Baltimore beat Miami.

This game was meaningful for other reasons:

The Dolphins had not scored more than 27 points this season. They did that.

The Dolphins had not scored an offensive touchdown in eight consecutive games. They did that.

Daniel Thomas, playing the entire second half because backfield mate Lamar Miller was knocked out of the game with a concussion, had a 55-yard run that. He rushed for 105 yards on 16 carries.

Charles Clay caught seven passes for 97 yards. He caught two touchdown passes, including the winning score.

The Dolphins rushed 24 times for 181 yards and and an 8.6 average.

Repeating myself...

This was against perhaps the best DC in the history of the NFL.

Good we scored 30+. We are going to need a repeat of that next week if we are to beat NE.

Panthers are going to come back to earth tonight...Not easy to play in the Superdome...As we know...

Wallyfin,

The forward lateral part of the last play would not have been reviewable.

Sam,

I thought Tannehill(and Hartline)showed some grit and leadership when he came all the way off the field to get in Philbin's face.

I'm not so sure "The Rookie" Tannehill would have done that.

WTH gives with this NE Team, no matter how farthest down they are they come back to win? Hmm...

we are on the march with Philbins army, we all go to Nuevo York, and we really shake 'm up when we win that #strangelooking cup. We are the best team in the world.

odin, that was some catch by Hartline on the TD. He's got the best hands for a WR since O.J.McDuffie...He's human, he will drop one once in a while (I believe he did today)...But 9 times out of 10 he catches it. And he knows how to get open...

I'm out. Good night all and go Dolphins!!!

Odin did you see my post? One of the trolls commented on Armando's story and left a name and picture. I'm almost sure of it. I would think a few people in here might be curious no?

Here's an added thing for the idiots trying to compare tannehill to Henne.
Hene's best season was 15 TDs and 19 ints.
Tannehill already has 20 TDs and 14 ints.

Montreal you spent all night complaining abut trolls so you have to see this post I'm talking about. It has to be him!

Today Thill and Hartline dragged their coaches a.s.s over the line and made him throw that flag.

The balls thill showed there really impressed me. All season long there have been calls that Philbin has not challenged.

Here we see some leadership from Thill, he gets in his coaches faces and forces the challenge.

Oscar,

The players win these games despite Philbin, not because of him. Today we saw it yet again. At the end of each half we saw a total collapse from our play callers and our players are tanked.

When you have the sword at the throat of an enemy you draw the blade over it.

Philbin acts like a James Bond baddie and leaves the Bond with the chance to escape the ropes and destroy the factory before he lies on an island with our girl before slipping her a length of man FAT !!!

Philbin now so far behind our players.

I 've seen enough. Step forward dolphins, and run the friggin table. this team can compete with anyone. F&^&K IT!! there is no next year!! GO DOLPHINS!!

Im hoping that we can be led to victory in 2013.

Things are getting better around here, but the Dolphin fans of old know that you shouldn't pop the champagne before the results are in ???

I liked dusty's idea. Lose the games. Get draft picks. Be like Buffalo and Jax forever.

THE MIAMI DOLPHINS MADE ME A LIAR TODAY!!!
I NEVER BELIEVED THEY COULD BEAT PITTSBURGH, IN Pittsburgh on a cold wintery day!!!

I WAS WRONG! THE RABBLEROUSER MISSED!!
BUT WAIT TIL NEXT WEEK.

doesn't really matter who we play, NFC sux anyway.

And yes I am talking
Superbowl.

How bout that Tame aper, he.

Clay better watch his back, as the Pats often "go" at a team's strength, such as Clay and put the hurt on them. Officials look the other way. This has happened ever since 2008, when Brady got hurt. Unless you want to count the "Immaculate tuck" game.

IMAWriter, isn't it time to change your name to IMAIDiot? You can't even write.

Guys, I love the enthusiasm, but if you really look at that last play, the Dolphins got so lucky. Then what would all these posts be saying??? Keep it real. We were very fortunate. So much for Mike Wallace getting it going lol what was Chris Clemons doing on that last play? He sucks. Seriously! We need to address that position in the draft. Don't get too excited peeps. We still gotta go to Buffalo and figure out how not to poop ourselves against the Patriots as we usually do.

The Dolphins didn't get lucky. They played well enough to defend the final play. The player stepped out of bounds because the defense forced him to the edge of the field.

We won.

Fair and square.

If you want to bring up luck, we've lost games on bad luck and bad calls too - just like every other team. So, it's a wash.

We one.

They lost.

How you get there does not matter.

Why is the Herald so lame that still has the picture from yesterday up on the main page? They couldn't post a pic of the Steeler win? LOL

We've been so conditioned and used to losing we errantly speak draft as if it's the cure all for all.

Have we not learned yet the draft is far from QUICK FIX? Most often it's 2-3yrs down the line before we get medium quality play. Did not we see that today?

Will not even speak of draft picks that never work out at all. Most screaming draft do not research what's available compared to what they want to replace.

Oh you're right. The Dfins won fair n square, but Brown stepped out because of a mental error, nothing that Clemons did. Don't let your fandom blind you of the truth. They even said it on espn and everywhere else. He had a clear orb to the end zone. What were you watching??? Lol

Draft CAN be a quick fix, but you have to know whom to draft, which Ireland ....doesn't.

"The Dolphins didn't get lucky. They played well enough to defend the final play. The player stepped out of bounds because the defense forced him to the edge of the field."

There wasn't a Dolphin near him, we got lucky.

In vain is the net spread in sigght of a bird.

We were very lucky to win that games folks.

The last play reminded me of the Panthers game, where Coyle and Philbin had the players lined up on the goal-line allowing a free run at the field uncontested.

Both Oc and Dc, should be replaced next season. Our players out class the coaching staff by far.

Didn't you know? All of the Herald's sportswriters picked the Steelers to win. The Herald as totally unprepared for Dolphin victory.

Shame on them :)

Omar Kelly picked the Dolphins.

Yes he isn't a herald writer either.

Great point. After finding out the runner stepped out of bounds, I had to place my heart attack back into my pocket.

Just hoping the heart attack interest doesn't compound next week.

Finally some people willing to be honest. I love the Dolphins and have attended 2 games this year, but you got to keep it real. We are far from being anything to celebrate about.

We're 7-6 lets throw a parade!

Maybe Tannehill is making progress on his deep ball accuracy. He hit Charles Clay perfectly for 40 yards, most of which were in the air.

Maybe Tannehill's just not used to good blocking and Wallace's speed.

I do know this, Tannehill seems to identify his issues and correct them pretty quickly. He's looking off defenders and using the pump fake. Both things he was criticized for. His pocket awareness and decision making have improved.

Hopefully this is a preview of things to come. He's impressed and surprised me so far. He's met the challenges. Most importantly, he's throwing more TD passes than INT's and winning games.

It sounds like that's what everyone wants to do DESPERATE HOMER LOL

Still, a win's a win. Never heard any team complain about a W. Every team takes a W however they can get it.

Only one pissed now are the cardiologists. I know that I was getting ready to call 911 had we lost.

Mental errors are part of the game. Like dropped passes that hit you in the hands.

Trying to rationalize it and say we were lucky is nonsense. We won. We put up 34 points. It was too much for them to overcome.

Negative azzwipes can always say well the only reason we won...yada yada. Means nothing. Pitt didn't deserve to win on that fluke hot potato play. It appear Raperberger made a forward pass over the line. I see that is not convenient for you to consider.

What scares me about THill is he keeps throwing picks. In the beginning of the season it was blamed in the OLine, but that's not the issue now. He's making some stupid throws. This year really doesn't matter cuz we aren't doing anything in the playoffs if we make it. Next year will be key to figuring out if he's the one.

but you got to keep it real. We are far from being anything to celebrate about.

The Dolphins having the lead with 2nd's left to play in Pittsburgh, in the snow, in itself is celebratorious.

What Dolphins team have you been watching the past decade?

Oh I considered it GEOMETRY, but that's a no reviewable play and Clemons should've been better prepared to make that tackle. His angle was horrendous!!!!

Realist, you are about as real as a hologram. Tannehill had one pick in the freezing snow. He also won the game.

Take your sad sack story elsewhere. It is obvious you don't even believe what you write, you just want to get a rise out of someone.

Get a life.

It is said:

"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity".

Means we're LONG overdue. :)

Gronk out? we might keep the p's to 3 points next week.. Let's go Dolphins!

Sam I Am, I've been watching a crappy one for more than a decade and I expected us to lose that game. It's nice to win, but if you're honest with yourself you know we were fortunate. We have major issues on offense and defense and if you think we have legitimate shot at contending you're sorely mistaken.

Whose fault was it that Pitt was down with under 2 minutes to go? They lost. They didn't deserve to win, and they didn't. Period.

Some of you are too eager to carve up anything positive into a negative because you lead a miserable existence. Sorry to say we are not all in your club.

Geometry, I'm honest. You should try it. Don't be upset. You're obviously easily angered. If you get this upset on sports blog I feel bad for you.

Yeah, well, lucky or not, we Won.

Great win today! If only those sucky Vikings could have held on. My only complaint is the uniforms. The new aqua pants on aqua socks kind of looked like dirty sweat pants. Stick with the white on white.

Realist is upset that we are not 3-10 and he can't whine and complain all over the blog. He needs attention. Not easy for him to get after a WIN.

Geometry, you're the one that sounds miserable.

We tamed the ape, he is a "je souviens" birdy anyway.

Tannehill only has 14 ints. At least half that total came in 3 games.

What scared me was when Tannehill's int's were coming in bunches. That has seemed to calm down.

20 tds 14 ints 6 more tds than ints. We can live with that. Especially with Tannehill beginning to play much better.

This is a what have you done for me lately league. Lately Tannehill is playing his best football of the season.

The only one whining and getting nasty here is you Geometry lol

Guys, I love the enthusiasm, but if you really look at that last play, the Dolphins got so lucky. Then what would all these posts be saying??? Keep it real.

====================================================

I'll keep it real, but I'm afraid it will hurt your precious little feelings.

If you're calling **US** lucky on that last play, you're NOT a Realist, you're a "Retardist". It took Pittsville 5 laterals, one of which was illegal and EVERYTHING they had just to reach the 12. That was the LUCKY part.

We weren't lucky at all, Brown stepped out of bounds BECAUSE Clemons was closing. In other words, Clemons forced him out.

C'Mon Man, if you're going to post with this kind of tone, at least try to be coherent-SHEESH-LOL!

Good point Sam.

Nice try realist. Get a new name. I'm just exposing you and you can't face it. Poor sap.

hell, I say: Superbowl!
