Mike Sherman: 'We're making noise'

Mike Sherman thought the Dolphins missed on an opportunity to win a statement game earlier this season when the team went to New Orleans undefeated but couldn't deliver a win. He does, however, believe the Dolphins came through in a statement game on Sunday.

And now where are they now?

"This was another opportunity like that one," Sherman said Monday. "This opportunity exists for us to go out there against a really good football team and make some noise. And that's what we're doing now, we're making noise. That's about it. We're playing as hard as we can play and coaching as hard as we can coach. And we're taking it one day at a time. However it ends up, it ends up."

One of the reasons the Dolphins are making noise is the December improvement of quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He has thrown for 843 yards, 8 TDs, 2 INTs in three games. And yesterday's 312-yard, 3-TD performance was outstanding.

But maybe not his best, according to Sherman.

"Let's see, that was pretty near the top," Sherman said. "I don't know if it was the best, but it was pretty near the top. His decision-making was excellent. His compusure. He made some big time throws in critical situations. Considering the opponent, I guess it was near the top."

Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle, great guy, continued to add to the building legend of defensive back Michael Thomas. We all know Thomas was poached off the San Francisco practice squad by the personnel department last week. He showed up at camp on Tuesday.

And on Sunday, pressed into service by injuries to Brent Grimes and Nolan Carroll, he intercepted Tom Brady to save the day. Well, Coyle was asked how many practice repetitions Thomas got with the defense last week.

"He got zero reps in practice," Coyle said. "The only reps he got were reps on the scout team (running the New England defense) and he spent a lot of time in meetings."

Coyle said assistant Blue Adams kept Thomas in meetings after practice, after most players had left Friday, then again on Saturday after the walk-thru.

On the final series, Jimmy Wilson moved to cornerback. He hadn't gotten a snap at cornerback dating back to OTAs two years ago, Coyle said. Rookie cornerback Will Davis was in the game. And obviously Thomas was in.

Interestingly, the Dolphins see Thomas as more a safety or nickel defensive back than a cornerback, Coyle said.

"As big as the last play was, the play prior to it, it looks like on our film, the [receiver's) got the ball in his hands and (Thomas) comes over the top and punches it out. If he doesn't make that play, we never get to the last play."

Coach Joe Philbin declined to say whether the botched field goal was a fake or not. It was.

I believe the Shanahan/Griffin relationship as suffered irreparable damage. Shanahan loves great players, but, hates great players who are divas.

Make no mistakes about it, RG3 is a diva. Father publically questioning Shanahan's usage after the injury. Then recently popping up in the locker room. Now throw in RG3's relationship with Snyder. RG3's turning into a monster Shanahan's wanting nothing to do with.

Shanahan's even invented a bs excuse to bench RG3 in favor of Kirk Cousin who had an OUTSTANDING day Sunday, going 29-45 381yds 3tds. But, in a loss.

Man, Grimes was a great acquisition. I'm beginning to believe we Fans don't have the knowledge of FAs that Ireland has.

Speaking of our GM.....................

The problem with fans is that it is too difficult for them to see all the factors involved. Luck of the draw in the draft..Do you need the BPA? Maybe not. The draft is still only a crapshoot anyway. Then the chemistry with the players you do have, no way to determine who fits well with who until they are together. Coaching, another myriad of permutations on how they are received overall by the team.

I see Ireland as a young, up and coming GM. He has taken his hits, pains of learning on the job, but I think he is a keeper. Most recent evidence is Brennan and Michael Thomas.

I'm fine with him here. You can't whack him over the MartinPuuuzy scandal. Changing GM's and coaches too soon is just as bad as sticking with inept coaches and GM's too long. (See the Dallas Cowboys)

At a minimum you give Ireland/Philbin another year. My guess is many more.

Oscar there's nothing significant to Ireland signing a fa coming off of injury. He does it every year.

At a minimum Ireland/Philbin have earned another year, if not many more.

Bodine,

Henne was the 3rd best qb in his class. T-Hill has the potential to be the best qb in his class. He was the most inexperienced in his class but had the best physical talent. Basically T-Hill had the most potential in his draft.

RG3 is a great athlete but he isn't 6'4" 230+lbs.

People hate on Sherman, but I wouldn't want anyone else developing T-Hill. The man has had T-Hill since he was coming out of High School. If someone knows how far T-Hill has come and how far he needs to go to be a great NFL QB it is M.Sherman.

Posts are delaying tonight.

Here's my problem with the Ireland takes they are based on opinions with an example of where something went wrong without considering what's gone well. Few here do their homework. Honestly if we listened to some of you we would have cleaned house in Oct.

Shanahan, sore loser too. heheheh

All we need is the Lions to win. Lets go Lions

Tannehill has as bigger arm than RG3
Tannehill is tougher than Mini3
Tannehill is taking a record number of sacks, and blames nobody, while Mini3 blames his receivers for not getting open.
Tannehill is a team guy with no ego, RG3 thinks he is orbiting our solar system,
Tannehill hasn't missed a start. RG3 was benched.
Tannehill is the most improved QB in 2013, RG3 took the biggest step backwards.

I rest my case.

No way today I take MeMeRG3 instad of WeWeTannehill.

Oscar,

Who are you trying to strike fear with your post. That silly grade school tactics might work on some. But C'mon son.

If someone here needs to be sitting at the Crow Buffet it is you sir.

Who did you want the Fins to draft? The Truth. This year and last year. Pick up that plate.

And NO!! I'm not just saying because the fins didn't draft them. I'm saying because the players suck!!

Cause Yes, the Fins didn't draft E.Lacy. But E.Lacy is a Heck of player. Better than any Midget WR or Basic TE.

Weren't you also on the fins will have a losing record. Because Vegas said so and Vegas is never wrong.

I guess that is a benefit of old age. You can forget that you even said such senile things and no one can blame you because you are an old Fart.

Listen, these Black Players coming in now into the NFL are not typical of the black thrash found in the ghettos. RG3 has a known Father that sticks up for him, anything wrong with that? JMartin =. Again, the mentality of most White guys, like you guys here, in evaluating and treating those Black Players has to change to adapt to the reality that those Players now have more Education and therefore power and $$$ than you have.

Tireco said he wanted to get his graduates from 'Chucky U' to Gruden. That's funny.

"Oscar Canosa"
Why do people always bring up race when debating about football players? This has nothing to do with neither race nor the treatment of black players. Stick to football facts and stop using the race card when you don’t have anything intelligent to say.

Little Red Corvette Baby,
U're much 2 fast (Yes U are)
Little Red Corvette
U need 2 find a love that's gonna last (Oh, oh)

This is freaking stupid and racist.

Blog check, 1,2,1,2.

Is this thing on?

Ass

Has matty responded to the earlier post? He's the one that that started this conversation on Ireland with his player complaint post.

Just saw the Philbin post game locker room speech. He was fired up! Made me proud of the Phins.

Oscar, watch the locker room celebrations of any team. It proves that only 2 out of every 1000 kinkheads are above base and vial tribalism.

It IS race, pal, and its stereotype and you'll probably find out pretty soon. Like it or not, some Black Players coming into the League now are more Educated and have been brought in better surroundings than some of his White team mates, and I imagine they won't take kindly to the word N,,,,,.

So post are being deleted or delayed, now I see. It wasn't for using the word ass. Dashi out. Just wanted to point out that being smart doesn't mean you have to be soft. And that anyone who went to college for at least 3 years can't be compared to someone who hasn't even graduated HS.

I guess coming from an old Cuban where everyone in Cuba is either a Doctor or Engineer, College education doesn't mean much. Since Hialeah is full of College Grads.

Oscar you are a Hypocrite and a Racist. But you already knew that.

Jonathan Cooper, Ryan Tannehill.

Well.....................

We can see Goodell's Zebra Be-Atches arer hell bent on stealing this game for the Ravens.

This is some pathetic type of WWE, Big Time Wrestling garbage.

He's ruined the NFL for me.

Odin,

Just wanted to pass along something you will appreciate, Vagisil works wonders on sore buttholes.

man the lions are bad

Don Shula must have made quite a few phone calls to quite a few high places. Haven't seen Dolphins on espn this much in a single day, since Shula led. On a Good note, I might add.

Shula must have gone far above Chris Berman's balding head.

Win or lose, Raven dos us a favor. So long as we continue to win too.

Oscar isn't blk yet he somehow thinks he knows the ins and out of being a blk man, you never will Oscar just psychology degree cant help you here buddy..

ravens need to beat pats

Nizgger is just a word. Why be uptight about it? Nizggers aren't, It's their favorite word.

your*

The Ravens are showing why there world champs while the Lions are well the Lions

Truth,
sorry was watching this Lions/Ravens game.. My recent issues with Ireland are the following:
some points have been made already,
His 1st and 2nd rd misses and some 3rd round misses
The way he handles contracts, Saoli, giving him a take it or leave it contract(according to Saoli)
His choosing not to extend or be in contract talks during the season.(grimes, bush, starks,) just examples
His player perception, from what ive read.. Clark comes to mind, Bush, Rosenfels
Aside from this offseason when his butt was warm and he threw money at guys to come here, he tried to find projects/acorns to pay them the same, acorns (you need a certain number of those but not too many that there starts to become holes)
His seemingly lack of relationship with the HC
How he also was a part of the Sparano/Harbuagh debacle (that was idiotic and any football guy knows you dont do that thus creating a unless you pay me a ton of money im not coming there feel)
He threw money at positions we needed but missed glaring needs with the line. The acorns/back ups have done a good job.
The McKinney trade, why doesnt that happen during the bye week?
He has done good things, im not discrediting him totally but the learning on the job as we go gets old..
I dont think he is a bad GM just need a guy that can have a good relationship with the coach, getting him whom he wants, spends money wisely, doesnt create a disconnect between current players that need to be signed thus increasing their contract to stay, and creates an image of somewhere top tier talent wants to play without having to break the bank ie the Pats... We have a good talent eval. in Philbin..
I

That Game between the Lions and the Ravens is not over yet.

matty would never have passed my 5th grade writing class. My oh my how the education system has failed us.

The deliberate dumbing down of America is alive and well.

The writings are on the wall, Lions will lose tonight

hope so truth, id rather play at balt then at cincy

I just don't see any difference between a Black and a White Man if they are both equally reared by an Educated family. Never have.

Are you kidding me dusty! BMore will kill us, they're the defending champs, the Bengals will be the much easier opponent

Betsy i separated the different points etc, please stick to flag making or if you want to address me then talk football..

Oscar, the darker the skin, the weaker the brain. All the great minds throughout history have been white as paper. None of the black or semi-black societies have ever made a serious contribution to the human race besides maybe dancing or drum banging. You can find a few very rare exceptions, but their societies have all either struggled or simply failed at the basics. As a Cuban you should realize this first hand,

These "football" guys trying to be cute all of the time on a football blog makes you wonder about the masculinity of America. Maybe that's why America is obese and is falling from the graces of a top 20 nation.

Jeff Ireland, worst GM ever?

Cracker Jack, STFYU with your non sense post, the first Humans on earth lived in Africa, do you think there skin was white you uneducated red neck! Have you ever heard of George Carver? Idiots like you belong in cage locked up

Oscar, until ALL men truly have equal access to ALL things, there will always be a DIVIDE. Race does not corner the market on this.

This is the only thing that will cause ALL walls of divide to come tumbling down.

All men wish to have a wife like Tannehills, but all men will never have her.

bengals undefeated at home and have blown everyone out

The Cubans are perhaps the most sophisticated of the Caribbean nations yet their biggest contribution to society was spit rolled cigars. Not much to brag about. No great minds have come from Africa or any of the tropical, typically darker skinned areas.

I cant stand coming here late and reading garbage ppl like Cracker Jack spew there hate on the board. The MH should be ashamed to have ignorant postings..

Cracker Jack seeing how most all life originated in Africa then your statement cant be true.

It is derogatory to many black players from years gone by that they were predominately 'black trash'.
Calling Martin to have the mentality of 'white guys' just because he comes from educated parents, is a stereotype that is demeaning to the black community especially, and to whites as well.
Can people not be more that their environment dictates?
Do black people from an impoverished childhood have to be ghetto?
And where does money fall into the social and racial hierarchy of the NFL?

Im out for the night.. have a good one all..

Next time you are at a STOP LIGHT, remind us how dumb darker skinned people are. A black man invented this.

Truth stares you in the face on daily basis, yet your eyes are to DARK-SKINNED to see it.

Truth, as I said their are few exceptions, but your reading and comprehension skills are severely limited. Carver was no big deal, better than the average slave, ok. An exception. One does not make a society.

Would you want a Jamaican, a Nigerian or a Norwegian performing your heart transplant?

Answer honestly.

dusty, Ravens are battle tested and went all the way to the Super bowl they know what it takes, Bengals haven't done squat in the playoffs. The intensity levels is different in the playoffs vs the regular season

We WHITE-Sinned men are the greatest copy cat'rs of all of the races. History is filled with evidence we stole ideas and inventions from other races and called them our own.

Your WHITE-SKINNED history is severely lacking. Where did you study, NAZI 101?

matty. so much to read there. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Sam, wow Stop Lights, what a heavy invention. How does that compare to the telephone, TV, wireless communications, aeronautics. computer technology and the great medical scientists?

Stop lights. LOL

Thanks for making my point.
