Ross: 'We're going to look at everything'

Steve Ross came out of the Dolphins locker room after Sunday's 20-7 loss and basically announced no one's job is safe.

"I'm making no comment on that," he stated before adding, "We're going to look at everything."

My question to Ross was whether he knew 100 percent he was definitely going to retain or fire anyone -- including general manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin.

"I'm disappointed," he said before that. "What else can I tell you? For everybody, you know? I have a lot to think about.

"I'm going to look at everything. When you're disappointed you don't make decisions based on the fly. You have to give it a lot of thought and go look at everything."

Ross said he was feeling pretty good about his team two weeks ago when they were 8-6 and playing Buffalo and New York next. He expected to be in the playoffs.

"Of course we were. Sure," he said. "To have something like this -- to lose the last two games -- I'm disappointed for everyone."

It's clear Ireland, the team's GM, has been in a tenuous situation this year. There have been times he's been seemingly on the outs. Ross a couple of months ago told him he was safe.

But now after this collapse Ireland's status is again uncertain. Team insiders have believed that Philbin, who helped the Dolphins navigate through the NFL scandal and reach to the precipice of a playoff berth, seemed safe.

Now, that is also in question because the Dolphins failed terribly the final two games of the season against teams that had losing records going into the meeting with Miami. The Buffalo loss last week was bad. This 20-7 loss to Jets was worse.

Ross was apparently ready to excuse the first. But the second?

"The team's played well. We had one bad game," he said.

But today?

"You expect to win."

First!

BAloney!

Nothing will change. You watch.

fire fire fire !!!!!

The Defensive front was supposed to be our strength, obviously that is no longer a strength. Pass rush the.last two weeks? Tanny finally has time to pass and throws three picks? No one made a play on offense or defense for two weeks. Yes, time to reevaluate everything.

something will change, but probably not the right thing.

I am not usually one that wants to fire regimes in 2 or 3 years but this is the one exception. This team is not built correctly. That is on Philbin. You cannot build a team based on a pop gun philosophy. That is what this offense is. It is an offense that has no toughness. They have finesse offensive linemen, no fullback, and no true blocking TEs. They have no ability to run the clock out and control the game when they have the lead.

This coaching staff is not going to take this team anywhere no matter who the GM is. We need to get a new coach that brings tough guys to the offensive line (maulers) and physical defensive players.

OC AND DC COACHES HAVE TO GO. LET PHILBIN CALL HIS PLAYS, IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO, THEN HE HAS TO GO. PLEASE GET SCOTT PIOLA AS GM AND LET IRELAND GO.

Armando it's your job as reporter for this team and city to let mr Ross know that this fan base will no longer support this regime and that if Philbin, Ireland and their bag of pop warner coaches return we will not

orlando, some will argue that that is exactly what miami had in the first few years of the parcells era. clearly there needs to be a combination of both. but it all starts with the quarterback, and tannehill is not it.

Ross wont fire anyone, we are stuck with the current regime for at least one more season. Once the sting numbs down he will say that we had a chance at the playoffs and despite the injuries and bullygate debacle the team still had a chance. If anyone is fired it will be OL coach, not Sherman or Philbin or Ireland. Bank on it fellas.

Can we start a Miami Dolphins Miami Dolphins Miami Dolphins #1 ! And when you say Miami you're talking toilet bowl?

Yeah pioli did such a fine job in KC. Get a football for dummies book idiot.

I've been here since May when the Vegas supercomputers made their calculations. I'll be back next May, and I may not even have to change my name.

Look At Everything? Isn't That What The 16gm Season Was For?

This is kind of like losing by 5 TDS and saying,

"We need to go back and look at the tape to see what went wrong."

Riddick or Mayock! No Pioli, Parcells crap!

Allowing the saga of Martin/Cogs to take place in your locker room. Hiring Sherman and Coyle as your OC and DC. Not hiring a proven veteran QB coach for a young QB. Never showing any emotion and never benching underperforming players. Not getting your #1 draft pick into the game after trading up to pick him #3 overall. Blowing the chance at the playoffs by losing two bad division rivals.

All ammunition for Ross to fire Philbin…he should be gone!!!

ONE BAD GAME? THIS GUY IS DELUSIONAL

Fire Sherman and Philbin and I'll be happy. Wish we would have much more designed running plays with Tannehill. Joke season, waste of time for everyone

DION JORDAN

JAMAR TAYLOR

DALLAS THOMAS

WILL DAVIS

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

WHAT A CLOWN

WHAT A JOKE

Not only should Jeff Ireland be fired he should never be hired by another NFL, college, high school, or even pee wee team.

KC is stocked with talent, they're 11-4

If Scott Piolii is the new GM I'm out

"...WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT EVERYTHING..." - S.ROSS

Who is we? Are Ross, Ireland & Philbin going to sit down together and decide who to blame this on?

Tannehill cannot throw the deep ball for $hi+! Someone needs to be brought in to push him to improve especially the long throws. This depends of course on the new GM and coaches philosophy and assessment of Tannehill. I for one won't be watching if those two clowns, who orchestrated the single worst meltdown in dolphins history(not to mention embarrassment of the Martin scandal) along with too many worthless draft picks to mention, return. Mr Ross you will be the biggest buffoon in the NFL if you allow these retards to return

Drafting three injured players in the first three rounds who barely make the field the entire season. Spending $100 million on FA to get a one dimensional WR who never fights for the ball, two LB's who couldn't tackle their mothers, a worn out RT, allowing your LB to leave and see him flourish, allowing McDaniel to go and see him kick but in Seattle, thinking Miller and Thomas were going to get it done for you, etc. etc. etc.

think the case for Ireland being fired is clear.

Ross isn't the problem..He will spend what he feels he needs to.. Question is if it is Coaching, Players or Gm.Big dilemna really. Big wins this year...and big losses...I feel the players are to blame for last 2 ugly ass losses. They were out performed over less superior talent. If anything it's on Ireland for putting this thing together.

Spend $100 million of my money, lose two games in the last two weeks to losers, and create a national saga that makes my franchise take an needed PR hit….I wouldn't have to think about anything tonight. I'd fire them all before they leave the stadium.

There is no toughness in this team. A patsy team. Never any adjustments whatsoever. Coaches have no idea how to coach. Never any urgency. And nobody fears for their job. Where is Jimmy Johnson when you need him to put fear in everybody. How I miss our great defenses.

Didn't deserve the playoffs with the last two showings. Sherman should be escorted out of Miami at the first opportunity.

If Scott Piolii is the new GM I'm out

Pioli built a far better team in KC. He just couldn't get a real qb.

As Ape Tamer would say: It's the qb, Eh?

Nothing will change. Ok, may be Michigan alum, may find and add a celeb to his ownership. He'll keep everyone and blame the locker room. Since he's been the owner. Please tell me one thing he's done to get phins to a playoff.

The first reaction is often times the right decision. Don't wait, this teams revenue stream depends on it. Fans don't want Ireland back.

I don't want a coach who can navigate through scandal, I want a coach who has his team prepared & fired up to play from the opening kickoff. Not take the 1st qtr to feel the other team out. Buffalo has done in 2 years what Ireland couldn't do in 5. Build an OL and a decent defense.

Austin,

Agree with that. I don't want to live Ireland of the hook but Ross deserves a lot of blame for wanting a clown like Philbin to run this team. Let's reflect on the type of coach he is. First move he made, rid of his physical WR Marshall, because he was threatened by his strong personality. Then gets rid of his toughest player Jake Long, because he is threatened by his personality and replaces him with one of the biggest cowards in NFL history, Jonathan Martin. He insisted on wanting to draft Egnew, who most on the team called a p---y. He did not want Jerry or Incognito on the team as they did not fit his personality, they are maulers.

On defense, he does not want Karlos Dansby because once again he is threatened by his personality. He replaces him with Phillip Wheeler (who is ranked the worst LB in the league). Wheeler was just trucked today by Geno Smith. Can you imagine Karlos Dansby getting trucked by a QB? Dansby is now being talked about as possible defensive player of the year with the Cardinals.

Is this the coach you want building your team? That is why I am a proponent of axing Philbin and bringing in a football coach with fundamental principles on how to build a football team. A football coach that can get a 1st down on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1. I want a coach that can play with the lead, run the clock out. A coach that builds a team that can physically impose their will on the other team. Good bye Philbin, good bye bend and don't break defense, and good bye pop gun offense!

U think this year is bad, wait till next years schedule...maybe 8-8

ANYBODY REMEMBER THE HOF GAME?

Philbin put Matt Moore back into the game to try and win it but we lost anyway.

Ross will be told by Peterson, if a great coach comes up make the move.

A new GM is on the cards as is a new OC. The GM may not be a Philbin guy and will go for the man he wants, that puts thill on high alert.

Shanahan or Kubiak, look to be the main guys on the table for the job. They are both on the Walsh tree and run the WOO.

Thill may be bumped to the bench if he continues to play so poorly, particularly in the last two games when we needed a QB to lead us and not suck so badly.

Armando,
Who is on your list of head coach and GM candidates should Ross get pissed and clean house?

Lovie Smith

This team is a mess. Tannehill will never amount to anything. Find a new QB who wants to win.

Lovie Smith
Mike Noaln
Mike McCoy
Chucky
Gus Malzahn
Deen Pees
Bob Sutton

I'd call these guys tonight to see if they want to be HC.

I'd give Chucky the keys to kingdom. We need his creativity, QB coaching ability and toughness.

ExposingTheFraud,

Not a bad choice. Lovie will bring in a physical defense, a great running game, tough Ol. That is more how you build a team.

We could have Jerry Jones as an owner... Think about it..

Even if Ross fires everyone he's not qualified to find their replacements.

Pioli, Grueden, problems solved

Good job jpao. I thought I was the only one that was upset we let McDaniel go. He didn't have a huge salary either.

BTW: STL HAS THE #2 OVERALL PICK FROM RG3 TRADE

Jeff Fisher made a big mistake choosing StL over Mia

Malzahn is going to Texas. Gruden won't leave his gig.

How do you fire the owner, Rick? You can't, you obliterate him.

JakeinPa @ 5:21

Not sure of the point you are trying to make. Jones has won 3 SB's as owner, no? And the cowboys are the most valuable franchise, no?

I would take Pioli over Ireland for sure. Not even a question.

I would not mind it if we bring back the old coaching staff. Todd Boles as HC, Mike Nolan DC, and Brian Daboll the OC. I would love to see what Daboll can do with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Mathews, Clay, Miller, and even Tannehill. Mike Nolan would brig back that aggressive tough defense (bye bye Phillip Wheeler).

Not a lot of keepers on this roster to entice a new coach or GM?!! Tannehill, Grimes, Wake, Pouncey, Clay, Hartline, Wallace (only because it would cost too much to cut him?), Vernon, maybe either Starks or Soliai, likely not both, Patterson, Thigpen and Fields. Likely team will keep all rookies to see how they do with 1 more year, but none of them are even starters??!! What a mess!! That is a lot of wasted money on mediocre at best talent, and way too many holes to fill to rebuild in 1 year!! Bring back Keller too, he looked good before injury, as did Binns. Need all new offensive line, running backs, defensive backs and linebackers!! Good Luck!

Ross is out. Sorry.

"You cannot build a team based on a pop gun philosophy. That is what this offense is. It is an offense that has no toughness. They have finesse offensive linemen, no fullback, and no true blocking TEs. They have no ability to run the clock out and control the game when they have the lead."

Great post Orlando, right on. It's a fragile little team. That get steamrolled and can't return the favor. The last time I remember a physical Miami team was the headline on Sports Illustrated after we beat the Vikes in the SB.

"ZONK! Miami Massacres Minnesota!" it said.

I want a high energy a-s kicker as my head coach. Shula and JJ took no prisoners. Wanny, Cameron, Sparano and Philbin were duds.

Hey Ross….go get an a-s kicker!!

somebody has to answer for this I say SHerman first then perhaps Ireland, he made us less talented team when he change out the linebackers and didn't bring Jake long back and did not resign Reggie Bush

Do we trade or Kirk Cousins? Would we give up a 2nd round pick for Cousins?

polian was trashing the wheeler signing as soon as it was done. why invest that much in a journeyman? pathetic. i put the tannehill decision on the shoulders of philbin and sherman. they have made him into a serviceable nfl quarterback. but he will never even be as good as, say, alex smith, who is a game manager when, in the perfect system, can get you to the playoffs. but nobody thinks the chiefs can win a superbowl with him, and clearly, harbaugh didn't think san francisco could last year, even when he had a stellar record as the starter.
