Ross: 'We're going to look at everything'

Steve Ross came out of the Dolphins locker room after Sunday's 20-7 loss and basically announced no one's job is safe.

"I'm making no comment on that," he stated before adding, "We're going to look at everything."

My question to Ross was whether he knew 100 percent he was definitely going to retain or fire anyone -- including general manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin.

"I'm disappointed," he said before that. "What else can I tell you? For everybody, you know? I have a lot to think about.

"I'm going to look at everything. When you're disappointed you don't make decisions based on the fly. You have to give it a lot of thought and go look at everything."

Ross said he was feeling pretty good about his team two weeks ago when they were 8-6 and playing Buffalo and New York next. He expected to be in the playoffs.

"Of course we were. Sure," he said. "To have something like this -- to lose the last two games -- I'm disappointed for everyone."

It's clear Ireland, the team's GM, has been in a tenuous situation this year. There have been times he's been seemingly on the outs. Ross a couple of months ago told him he was safe.

But now after this collapse Ireland's status is again uncertain. Team insiders have believed that Philbin, who helped the Dolphins navigate through the NFL scandal and reach to the precipice of a playoff berth, seemed safe.

Now, that is also in question because the Dolphins failed terribly the final two games of the season against teams that had losing records going into the meeting with Miami. The Buffalo loss last week was bad. This 20-7 loss to Jets was worse.

Ross was apparently ready to excuse the first. But the second?

"The team's played well. We had one bad game," he said.

But today?

"You expect to win."

I would have Bill Polian as G.M. and hire Mike Shula. We need a Shula back in South Florida and looked what he did with Cam Newton this year. He has paid his dues and is ready to be a head coach!

This may not be a bad idea at all. Just wished your name was Steven Ross.

Sam,

It is easy to be negative. That is why you, ape tamer, and marco were right.

WALLACE IS NO #1 WR!!! We need a big guy like Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, AlshonJJeffrey, Dez Bryant, Demarrious Thomas, AJ Green, etc... Wallace & Hartline are total #2s and Matthews is a #3. I'm tired of watching Wallace being put in a #1 role when he can't pull down balls, break tackles, & muscle forward.

Everyone except Pouncey on the OL needs to go... Fire Sherman & maybe Coyle

This team lacks leadership and players who wear their heart on their sleeves. We need to draft players who show leadership ala Jim Jensen, John Offerdahl, Bryan Cox, Zach Thomas
Offensive and Defensive coordinators need to go and we bring in the best (Nolan as DC?). Bring in 4 quality linemen via draft/free agency.
Keep Ireland as he brought in several Pro bowlers including Wake, Pouncey, Grimes.

Sam I Am and Marco correct all year they've been callin out the Fins flaws and Bill A been calling them trolls. Now Bill once to jump on the bandwagon about how THill isn't a franchise QB and Philbin sucks which I agree the only difference is posters like Sam, Marco and I been saying it all season only to be called trolls?

As for me I have always said that Tannehill was hard to rate because he has no help on offense. No OL, TE, RB, WR or coach. I said we should draft a QB in 2nd or 3rd round as insurance if TH fails. Well I saw TH have time this week and he still under or over threw wide open WR's....in game 32 of his career I have seen enough.

Austin I'm not gonna argue with you. I don't owe Ryan Tannehill anything but its not his job to block, tackle, defend passes, or game plan.

No way you can put the last 2 losses completely on Tannehill. The whole team needs work.

Yes, Sam, besides the Harbaugh/Sparano fiasco alomg with his latest cutie picture with Dan Dierdorf.

To all of the guys that attacked me all season long for calling Thill out early on, I forgive you, we all make mistakes, but I really hope you've learned a valuable lesson my friends.

Look at what you see, your eyes can be truthful too.

Sam didn't do that until TH went on a 3 game winning streak. Then he said TH was the real deal and we were going to the Super Bowl.

Aint no lying, I dranked that 3 game wi streak koolaid by the gallons at a time.

Fair point, Orlando. But the GMs I hear bandied about here are mostly old men for whom the game may already be passed.

Philbin will stay, no doubt, but I now think his hiring was a mistake. He is a zombie. He makes Tom Landry look like Richard Simmons.

Bill A your the biggest flip flopped ever. 2 weeks ago u were beating your chest about how the Fins were going to the playoffs!!

Many posters warned you the Bills and Jets were threat and laughed! Guess who laughing last??

What about Hartline? Did he sprain his knee? I don't get it....We kept seeing him standing on the sideline but if he was hurt so bad was he standing on his hurt knee? WTH is up with that?

I'd love to see Lovie, Gruden or Cowher but I just don't see them coming to Miami due to Ross and the mess this franchise has represented the past 20+ years.

Nolan
Shula
Jay Gruden

I'd be happy with them. My initial thought is a tough minded coach but I also see a big need to bring in an offensive mind who can develop THILL. Say what you want about THILL but given their draft position I don't see them going without THILL next year.

It's not Tannehill's job to block but it sure is his job to dive head first instead of that stupid slide

Hartline claimed he heard a "pop" prob tore his ACL MCL or whatever else in his knee

its time for an overhaul...

Sam,

It is easy to be negative. That is why you, ape tamer, and marco were right.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | December 29, 2013 at 05:54 PM

I wasn't being negative. I was being objective about what I was seeing.

Not choosing denial in which to hide and blame everything but the POOR PERFORMNCE of our team.

That's al ud.

The Weather was bad for Us again Today.

Gruden, Cowher, Lovie....all retreads that were fired elsewhere for a reason....(except Cowher, but 14 yrs and 1 SB) I don't want a retread. Back in Oct I stated I wanted Mike Shula as HC and got crucified for it. I still want Mike Shula!!

I think we need to clean house. However, if I had a choice on who to keep, I would keep Ireland. Ireland had this team going in the right direction before Philbin was forced on him by Ross. The team under Todd Boles went 6-3 with a career back up. The defense was ranked #3 against the run and had pretty good pass rushers. The receivers were Bess, Hartline, and Marshall not bad. Then Carl Peterson and Ross had the brilliant idea to bring a pop gun offense here and the fins had to reinvent themselves. They went from a physical team to a soft finesse team with Philbin. Philbin was just a horrible hire.

I think we need to take a flyer on Aaron Murray in the 2nd or 3rd round. All the other top QB will be gone by the time Fins draft 1st round

Polian's track record is great. His star QB went down and so did the team, but the very next year the team was back. That right there tells you he left a very good foundation.

It's beyond me why any of you cockle heads would want Cowher who has been out of the game far too long and showing no signs of doing anything more strenuous than his cush tv job. Besides most of his comments are stupid.

Bill polian is 71 yrs old!!!! I don't believe he's ready to take on a dolphins project that would give any gm a stroke..... I think he will say thanks but no thanks man... I will stay here in this nice broadcast studio and get my 3 or 4 million a yr to be a talking head. Good luck fins!!! I think we will be looking at good ole reliable carl

Truth,

I agree. I love Aaron Murray.

Sell the Team Ross and take Ireland with you. You've been "looking at everything" since you got here. The nightmare of wasted draft picks is long and distinguished. Pleasejust take the money and go away.

The stuff that drips off my dick has more intelligence than you or any of the other troll name you use on here!

You my friend are simply lying. I got LAMBASTED for saying that the Jets were the team to worry about. I even got accused of being a Jets fan....Look are we children playing he said she said?
I said I WOULD LIKE the Dolphins to make the playoffs so that they could get playoff experience. I was with Dusty for weeks about losing to get better draft picks.

DraftTeddy,

He got 20 yards on 3rd and 20. He has probably had it pounded into his brain to slide, slide, slide. It's obvious they don't really want him running the football.

He obviously thought he had made it pass the line to gain. It look to me like he had.

When Ross says he will look at EVERYTHING, you know he is full of it. Last offseason he looked at "everything" and all we got was an ugly new logo. www.DolphinsTruth.com

Marco I still o not see Tannehill as bust at least not yet. He still has a ways to and he's also surrounded with flawed personnel both sides of the ball.

My greatest culprits are:

#1. Ross. He stuck with Ireland too long.
#2. Ireland. No comments neccssary.
#3. Philbin. May have hired the most incompetent OC/DC combo in Fins history.

You have got a nerve mate. You stated that Thill was a franchise QB and that I was a troll for stating that I wasn't sold on him at any stage.

The highest I was on him was 65% after the Pats game, of course he was playing better then. I've always called him out on his weaknesses and they have never gone away, in fact his play has got worse.

Anyone that reads this blog knows that I've never been sold on Thill, you on the other hand attacked on site ANYONE who argued that Thill wasn't the answer. I've given you the chance to admit you are wrong and yet you still complain.

I was right all along and everyone here knows it, you lose Bill. Next time listen to Marco my friend. Thill showed some signs of playing better, but so did Henne, and you backed him too if I remember correctly, in fact you show that you rarely ever learn anything from your large collection of mistakes.

For a guy that claims he has a PHD,(yeah right), you don't seem to be too bright.

orlando dolphan YES!!!

Trade for Kirk Cousins immediately and get rid of RT asap. The longer RT is starting the longer this franchise will take to actually rebuild and develop beyond a .500 team. Unfortunately this club is built to either win now or bust. A team is in big trouble when the qb that is in charge of winning the sb doesn't have the horses on the OL and DL. You will never see a team with an average qb and shaky line play win the SB. RT could only win a SB if the Phins had a historically dominant defense, like Dilfer with the Ravens and to an extent Flaco but te Phins D is far from elite like those Ravens defenses were. Outside of a QB stepping into a ideal setup like that, then the QB must be elite to win and lead his team to the SB, ala Rogers, Brees, Manning etc.

Angry Elf,

I agree with you on not brining 70 and 80 old men to be GMs. It is going to be tough.

I hear that Ross is good friends with Tony Dungy. If Tony were to take the job, I think that a lot of the fan base will get their wish of Lovie Smith. Smith and Dungy are great friends. How old is Tony?

If you are responding to Bill A. You are sadly desperate for football talk.

I am not going to sit here and discuss what others have trolled in my name. So you are obviously the person that is doing this as you are the one that knows about it. I stated on DEC 19th I would be away until today with work. NICE TRY!!

Posted by: BIll Arnsparger | December 29, 2013 at 06:00 PM

Gruden is CLOWN. We're trying to get THE CIRCUS to lave TOWN.

Truth,

You nailed it Bill A attacked everyone that even dare question Thill as the franchise QB, like the bully he would love to be the Rush Limbaugh of the site.

He waits for MIT to try and fight his pathetic case for Thill with some weak excuses about Thill being as good as Brady and a better start than Peyton Manning, I thought they were joking at first, but they really believed it.

I hope that Ross be the first to look at himself in the mirror and decide if he's the owner that this team deserve. The plain answer is of course he's not, far from that.
Unfortunately we fans cannot fire the owner. However what we can do is to boycott all his products: team, souvenirs, etc.
Please, start right now this boycott. Dont wait to the next season. Stop filling Ross' pockets. We deserve a better team, not the pathetic one we've seen almost all the season. Dont get fooled, the 8 wins is just a smoke screen. We should be like 4-12, no more than that. Just analyze area by area and you'll see that the Dolphins are the worst in most of them.

"You have to give it a lot of thought and go look at everything."
That statement says it all - Ross will make very few changes if any.
"The team's played well"
He's clueless. 8-8 teams have not played well.

Definitely, Sam, definitely.

Tannehill missed a wide-open Mike Wallace deep at least 10 times this year. 8th overall pick; really?

I think we need to clean house. However, if I had a choice on who to keep, I would keep Ireland. Ireland had this team going in the right direction before Philbin was forced on him by Ross.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | December 29, 2013 at 06:00 PM

It's statements like this that scares hell out of me with you. You're probably the only dolfan in he Nation feeling this way.

Anybody wonder why there *just happened* to be a story about Shula endorsing Philbin before today's game? It's because the dope owner is committed to this dope coach. Wooowee loser Ross dragged out Shula...just like he dragged out his "committee" after the bullying horsecrap. How about you drag out a winning team Steve? You don't have a clue and as long as you own this team we are screwed

Posted by: Sam I Am | December 29, 2013 at 06:08 PM

I don't want Gruden....not sure if you understood the post.

And Marco its obvious from your hate rant and continuous posting under the Bill A's True colors name that I am right about something......That you really are a TROLL. I don't converse with trolls so go away.

am not going to sit here and discuss what others have trolled in my name.

Nice try Bill A. Sorry to inform it is not we that are as dumb as you think we are, it is you that is dumber than you realize.

Gotta tell you, Orlando, I like Tony D, but I don't know how much of him is brilliance and how much is just the fact that he has been around for a long time. Media exposure can be deceptive.

I would feel better if Ross were getting advice from him, though.

Posted by: kktommy | December 29, 2013 at 06:05 PM

Well said! I really like Kirk Cousins. I liked him coming out of college. They are saying that a 2nd round pick is all it would take. Kirk Cousins would start for us immediately as he already has experience.

Who knows you may be able to flip Tannehill for a 2nd round pick.

Posted by: BIll Arnsparger | December 29, 2013 at 06:00 PM

Bill, most people would just leave the blog with their heads bowed in shame my friend, after the BS you have sprayed over this blog all season regarding Thill begin a franchise QB.

Have you ever heard of Hari Kari ? Go look it up and do us all a huge favour.

If Shula endorsed Philbin it only proves he now closing in on 90yrs old.

Agreed, John. Philbin is going nowhere. Neither is Sherman, I doubt. A couple of position coaches will take the fall for this epic coaching fail.

The glory has departed this once proud franchise.

No one ever forget this post my our favourite Thill fan..ha ha.

Bill a, MIT won't be your friend after this little tantrum.

As for me I have always said that Tannehill was hard to rate because he has no help on offense. No OL, TE, RB, WR or coach. I said we should draft a QB in 2nd or 3rd round as insurance if TH fails. Sam,

I don't know how old you are but sometimes I think that you are illiterate. Did you not see my first sentence? "I think we need to clean house".

My statement implies that Philbin is more at fault than Ireland, IMO.

Bill is right, you are troll!

Ross is a pitiful cartoon. Maybe he will fire Ireland in order to keep the fan base. But Philbin will keep the same idiots, including himself, and nothing will change.
Ross is the main source of everything. He will never allow guys like Chucky that cannot be manipulated at his will.

You'd have to think Ireland is the one most in the hot seat. He is the one that has been here the longest and hasn't delivered results.

If they whack him, I say you do a complete refresh on the coaching staff as well. The OC and DC have to go no matter what, they are not qualified.

So the Pats are handling the Bills just fine in the rain today. See how good teams play?
To everyone on this blog who have been critical of Tannehill: I tried really hard to be positive about him but you were right all along. He was horrible the last 2 games, and today, the most important game of his career so far, he stunk up the place.
And when he ran for 20 yards and slid, I was yelling "he slid before the first down!!!". He just doesn't have "it".

Bill Arnsparger,

I respect you for finally accepting the truth about T-hill and his not being able to be that guy. It's just not there. Mike Wallace is over paid because the Dolphins were desperate for a speed WR. However he is open and is either over thrown or under thrown. He requires much attention which has helped the offense.

As if Daytona could chase me away. Your just an internet punk. I have no time for you and all the names you post as. Ignore the troll and discuss football.

No reason to trade Tannehill. He will most likely be given part of next year as the starter behind an improved OL, run game and coaching. If he doesn't improve then he will be benched.
