Ross: 'We're going to look at everything'

Steve Ross came out of the Dolphins locker room after Sunday's 20-7 loss and basically announced no one's job is safe.

"I'm making no comment on that," he stated before adding, "We're going to look at everything."

My question to Ross was whether he knew 100 percent he was definitely going to retain or fire anyone -- including general manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin.

"I'm disappointed," he said before that. "What else can I tell you? For everybody, you know? I have a lot to think about.

"I'm going to look at everything. When you're disappointed you don't make decisions based on the fly. You have to give it a lot of thought and go look at everything."

Ross said he was feeling pretty good about his team two weeks ago when they were 8-6 and playing Buffalo and New York next. He expected to be in the playoffs.

"Of course we were. Sure," he said. "To have something like this -- to lose the last two games -- I'm disappointed for everyone."

It's clear Ireland, the team's GM, has been in a tenuous situation this year. There have been times he's been seemingly on the outs. Ross a couple of months ago told him he was safe.

But now after this collapse Ireland's status is again uncertain. Team insiders have believed that Philbin, who helped the Dolphins navigate through the NFL scandal and reach to the precipice of a playoff berth, seemed safe.

Now, that is also in question because the Dolphins failed terribly the final two games of the season against teams that had losing records going into the meeting with Miami. The Buffalo loss last week was bad. This 20-7 loss to Jets was worse.

Ross was apparently ready to excuse the first. But the second?

"The team's played well. We had one bad game," he said.

But today?

"You expect to win."

Promichael I don't want to trade TH. TH will be our starter in 2014 no matter what we do in the draft. If we have a new coaching staff hopefully they can fix the deep ball issues. Remember that TH won a few games this year mostly by himself. All Im saying is that as presently coached in this system he is not the guy.

Now Bill has swung back to being a Thill fan again.... what a joke, that was the quickest U-turn in the history of this Blog.... ha ha my friend, you bring comedy to the blog with your BS.

Sam i am ....russel wilson was drafted 3 round to be competition to matt flynn ,and looked what happened,THE BEST MAN WON....

Posted by: Barron | December 29, 2013 at 06:37 PM

A gm using this as a blueprint formula for success wont be around very long. You only get this lucky once in a decade or more.

The NFL is still waiting for the next 6TH RD Tom Bray, isn't it?

I agree Orlando, I don't think we should throw Thill on the ash heap yet. Get some competition in the draft or FA at QB. If Thills long ball and pocket presence don't improve we know what needs to be done. 3 years is not too long for a QB to develop.

U-turn Bill A.

As for me I have always said that Tannehill was hard to rate because he has no help on offense. No OL, TE, RB, WR or coach. I said we should draft a QB in 2nd or 3rd round as insurance if TH fails. Well I saw TH have time this week and he still under or over threw wide open WR's....in game 32 of his career I have seen enough.

Ross will retreat to his ocean front condo and assess the 8-8 season...then conclude that we beat playoff caliber teams and are a few minor adjustments away from winning.

Sad but true...we will be a middle of the pack team again in 2014.

Nothing will change. Ross doesn't get IT. He's not a
a football persons. THE FANS HAVE TO STOP SUPPORTING
THIS TEAM. So much heartache it's not fair. CLEAN UP
HOUSE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COSTS. IRELAND LET GO A
LOT AOF GOOD PLAYERS, AND THE ONES HE BROUGHT IN ARE
HORRIBLE. HE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY FOR NAUGHT. THE ONLY
WAY TO REGAIN CREDIBILITY IS CLEANING UP HOUSE. SHER-
MAN & COYLE ARE TERRIBLE & PHILBIB DOES NOT HAVE FIRE.
SEEMS LIKE A BAD DREAM, REPEATED EVERY YEAR. FOR CRYING
OUT LOUD, HOW MUCH MORE DO QE HAVE TO ENDURE.

per adam beasley,

``Chad Henne went 13-18 as a starter in Miami. Ryan Tannehill is 15-17."

Some people just do not know how to read....a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

promichael that is what I fear about TH. Im not sure that deep ball touch can be taught. I also know that TH hit Wallace in the hands on the deep ball in the endzone and Wallace dropped it. Wallaces entire career he has had the drops. Where is the hate for Wallace like it is for TH???

Has anybody been fired yet??

lol I'm turning into the new FIRE ROSS. Major disappointed. It's like ground hog day every day with this team.

Sam,

Thill needs competition, but more importantly we need a QB.

I would open the competition up for the starting QB job and let Matt Moore compete

This statement kind of tells everyone to permanently ignore your opinions.

yepriman or yesterdays gone I should say, you opinion means nothing ,you forgot Bush you know our number one scorer last year these retards let go jason Taylor Zack Thomas, and theres plenty more , just never enough and never will be till Ireland is gone

I agree with most of you this team has no mental toughness.

sAM I AM.....Green Bays blue print is to always draft a qb even in the late rounds.Arron Rogers was a lte number one ,when the had brett farve as a hall of fame starter

Anyone else notice our D-line never pressured the QB?
Dion Jordan made one tackle
Starks gave up on a few plays and looked listless.
Ellerbe got run over by a QB at the goal line

Tannehill has a lot of blame, but our defense stunk today.

Oh yea, Philbin is NOT a leader of men.

Bill,

It would be nice to see what TH can do with good protection and a running game. I would like to bring in a group of coaches and personnel folks than know to find and develop QBs. The leagues is finding rookies in middle rounds to play the QB position. I want them to bring in a rookie QB that can provide competition for TH and that could replace TH he is not the answer. However, I would not bring in a QB earlier than the 3rd round.

How all you jock sniffers feeling now?
EMBRACE THE SUCK!!!!!!
Ross=Loss
Tannehill=Tannefail
Philbin=Phailbin
Ireland=Drunk

It can't be anymore clear. The team beats Pittsburgh, Indy, Cincy, Chargers, and the Pats. You lose in dogfights with Baltimore and Carolina. Your talent is good enough to win those games (all playoff level teams).

You blow games to Tampa and Bills during the season….really?

You beat the long dreaded Pats at home and put yourself in a great position to go to the playoffs and you come out flat two games in arrow to lousy teams. You blow your chance at the playoffs.

That is coaching. That is NOT the GM.

I am not thrilled with the GM. I could care less if he is fired. But don't think for a minute that the coaching staff wasn't involved in trading away Marshall and Vonte Davis, Bush, Long, Dansby and McDaniel. Those moves aren't made without the input from the coaches. Don't think for a minute the coaches weren't involved in the FA signings (Wallace was not paid that money without coaching input).

But in the end the GM is not calling plays and making mid-game changes to win games that MUST be won. That is what coaches are paid to do.

These coaches F-uc-ed up this season pure and simple.

-------------------------------------------------------

I also noticed Jordan completely lost on one play, running out to cover a receiver who wasn't even lined up out there.

The guy we spent a 1st and 2nd pick for. And a RB going nowhere who we gave up 3 picks for. Incredible.

GET RID OF THESE JOKES (GM, HEAD COACH). I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A LONG TIME THAT IRELAND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE. ALSO, PHILIBIN IS JUST NOT HEAD COACH MATERIAL. TOO STOIC. NO EMOTIONS. CAN'T MOTIVATE HIS TEAM AND TOO STUBBORN TO RECOGNIZE THAT SHERMAN WAS NOT GETTING THE JOB DONE WITH HIS PLAY CALLING.

Draft Oline, LBs, RB...

FA Oline, LBs, RB...

Take a QB if he falls into lap either way but not over a good OL if he is there....

Orlando....my pick for qb ,would be aaron murray ,who is projected to go 3-4 round unless he has a blowout combine

Philbin has been in a clueless state since his kid offed himself

Ok Daytona is getting restless....I am leaving now. I will NOT be back here until Jan 1. New Years eve in Times SQ the #1 target in the USA so I will be busy. Midnight I am officially retired!! YEAH

So Marco/Daytona feel free to use my name to post your hate like you usually do.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL DOLFANS!!! BE SAFE. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE......... 2014 Better be our year!! Peace!

Bill A.,

Please watch the film of that play in the end zone again. I also thought Wallace just dropped that ball. The slow replay shows the DB getting there just in time and grabbing the arm of Wallace which caused him to drop the ball. It was not a clear drop. Watch the slow motion on it. It happened just at the right time so the ref. did not call interference.

Knowing Ross, we'll hear nothing of firings Monday morning.

I have a very sucky feeling Sherman alone will be made scapegoat and Ireland/Philbin/Coyle will all still be here in 2014.

Just a sucky feeling.

What an embarrassment Miami Football has been the last 8 days.

We should fire Philbin and Ireland, but we won't. We won't because all Dolphins fan deserve to continue the 40 year tradition of mediocrity. We were swept by Buffalo and had a scandal that at one point called for the firing of both coach and GM. Then we win a couple games and all of a sudden all is peachy? Hopefully this season ending collapse will wake up Ross. Philbin has no emotion. I actually blame him more than Ireland. I think we have a lot more talent than any team in our division, but we come out flat and play with no emotion. Settle for too many field goals and 3 and outs. Pathetic. We have been out coached and out hustled so many times this year.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | December 29, 2013 at 06:51 PM

He had time today and blew wide open men all day.

Stop with the excuses, he isn't good enough. The season long problems he has throwning the ball of more than 10 yards are still there, in fact he has got worse the last 2 games.

Why not go out get a QB in the draft ? This is going to happen anyway. Ross will be really gutted at the season and a new GM will soon have Thill riding the pine once he evaluates him.

Philbin may well leave too if the GM doen't believe inhim. I pray that Philbin is a goner, then things fall into place.

Maybe Coyle will be abducted by aliens Sam...

One can hope...

promichelle < 8 years old and wears a pink dress.

wow...chargers are choking against chase daniels...R u fkn serious?????

Posted by: jpao | December 29, 2013 at 06:55 PM

That is a great assessment and exactly what I have been saying. You cannot blame these last two losses to these to bad teams on the GM. The GM puts together a team before the season starts and then scours the waiver wire for replacements during the season. This team had the talent to defeat Playoff teams and fought hard against others where they came a little short. Then they lay the egg against the lowly bills and Jets. That is on the coaches.

Get a QB in here to unseat Thill Marco..
One plays better that Thill I am 1000% game..

PHILBIN IRELAND GONE...THILL TO FOLLOW IF HE CAN'T IMPROVE.

Owner Stephen Ross was asked after the game about the status of coach Joe Philbin and general manager Jeff Ireland.

"I'm making no comment on that," Ross said via the Miami Herald before adding, "We're going to look at everything."

Ross made it clear he wants to think things over before making any declarations about personnel staying or going.

"I'm disappointed," Ross said before being directly asked about Philbin and Ireland. "What else can I tell you? For everybody, you know? I have a lot to think about.

Face it guy, no one credible's coming here until Ross dumps Ireland. Look at Ireland's personnel history.

Bellichik couldn't win with this personnel.

Could be best thing to happen to us if it gets ireland and philbin gone

Dylan,

My opinion in just that an opinion and your statement tells everyone what a moron you are. He is the lesser of the evils and would have gotten the Dolphins to the playoffs this year.

the steelers are going to get in...UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Wow, how about Chase Daniels. What is his status? Can we trade for him, lol? That guy is about to break the Chargers' hearts.

How improbable. The Steelers at 8-8 may be 2:00 away from making the playoffs.

Happy Hogmanay to you TROLL.

To those doubting the dedication of Jeff Ireland, word from Dolphins headquarters is after the loss to the Jets, he returned directly to this office, rolled his sleeves up, and poured glasses of Dom Perignon for all of his dedicated scouts and assistants. Come two weeks from Monday, he pledged to return from Cozumel and work harder than ever to solve the Dolphins personnel issues, none of which are really his fault.

Henne's record as a starter for Miami: 13-18
Tannihill record as a starter for Miami: 15-17

Fact don't lie folks. Get rid of the GM and HC, get a legit GM who can hire a qualified HC and evaluate talented draft prospects.

That is coaching. That is NOT the GM.

-------------------------------------------------------Bingo! I tried to tell people about Sherman early in the season last year. And then later when it was apparent at least to me, Philbin didn't know what the hell he was doing.. The warnings were there if you paid attention. Now look at this mess.

Henne did play on a team with a good defense unlike this year...

be huge if this finally gets rid of them. this team was bad so shouldnt be a big deal to miss playoffs. much better getting a new regime in here

The Chargers are going to lose. The Chiefs would need to make a short FG now. OMG!

Andy Reid is an awesome coach. His back ups played their hearts out and are going to beat a desperate team.

garfo,

The therapy did not help your back to cross dressing. You must look outstanding in south beach after 11 pm. Not my thing but good luck with that. Forget about the therapy, just be yourself and cross dress to your hearts content.

Bellichik couldn't win with this personnel.

Posted by: Sam I Am | December 29, 2013 at 07:04 PM

Belichek has never won with his own personnel either.

Could be best thing to happen to us if it gets ireland and philbin gone

Posted by: dusty bottoms | December 29, 2013 at 07:04 PM

May not happen. Not agreeing it shouldn't but most likely won't.

pitt started 0-4 and could make playoffs now big ben dangerous

it better happen dark or that stadium will be a ghost town next year

Posted by: Powhitetrash | December 29, 2013 at 07:02 PM

We actually did ok in regards to the draft by losing to the Jets, I think we made up 4-5 spaces. Its a pathetic consolation prize, but it may mean we get in a QB, that can play.

FA' QB will be the biggest goal for a new GM for sure. they will evaluate him as a massive question mark and won't place the future of their first season in charge with him at QB.

There is talent on this team. On O we need a QB of course a powerback and two new tackles.

On D two new a new LB for Wheeler and a FS to replace Jones, those two really played horsesh1t for the entire year.

You must look outstanding in south beach after 11 pm. Not my thing

Posted by: promichael | December 29, 2013 at 07:09 PM

Not your thing but yet you know exactly where to find it! LOL

Look at he bright side guys. We won the 2013 offseason championship. Usually we lose that too.

Have Been watching this team since 1970! Wow I'm so tired of same old same old! This year has broken my support!

yes marco and we get a third place schedule that includes jacksonville

choke...gods like chargers..lmao
