Ryan Tannehill shows off trick shot accuracy

Ryan Tannehill has trouble connecting with his receivers on deep passes.

But hitting the broad side of an eight-point buck from 30 yards?

Dropping a basketball into first floor bucket from the second floor of DICK'S Sporting Goods store?

Firing a frisbee into a net while riding a bicycle?

No problem.

Tannehill and the guys from Dude Perfect are going all trick shot artists in the DICK'S Sporting Goods store make you want to shop in the place or online for the available gear.

Will doing so make you a trick shot artist like it does Tannehill? Doubt it. But wouldn't you settle for one 59-yard connection from Tannehill to a streaking Mike Wallace that lands right in the receiver's hands in stride against Pittsburgh?

Obviously, the video is in fun. The deep ball issue is not. And here's the thing:

It's probably not going to get better this year because the Dollphins don't feel they have the time or the possibility (due to circumstances) to practice it.

I'm told the Dolphins throw maybe a handful of deep ball passes throughout the week of practice. So maybe five deep ball opportunities in four and sometimes three practices.

OC Mike Sherman knows the only way to get it right is to practice it, but he says he simply cannot spare the extra time and effort it requires physically.

“I think it’s just a matter of repetition," Sherman said. "One thing you have to understand is you can’t just go out there every day in practice and just throw 25 deep balls.  You just don’t have the legs to do that during the context of our week or day, or a season.  It’s just a matter of having some work together and some familiarity.  Mike’s (Wallace) been nursing some tendonitis, so that hasn’t allowed us an opportunity at times during the course of the week even to work on that."

Understand what Sherman just said. Sherman is admitting some weeks the Dolphins don't "work on that."

Wallace also had the groin problems during training camp and that prevented the work as well. But even when he was healthy during camp, the team would go days and days without throwing him a deep ball. I know because those practices were open to the media and I reported the issue here.

This issues reminds me of the old Brooklyn Dodgers.

Maybe next year.

Mark I agree with the best offensive weapon approach. Take the best player available. It will likely be on offense.

I'd be ok with a stud O-lineman, Mike Evans, or my personal favorite right now Eric Ebron.

TANEHILLS AND WALLACE CAN BE LIKE THE OWL AND THE EAGLE. THE WISE OWL STAND THERE AND GIVE THE FOOT BALL TO THE SPEEDIE EAGLE AND HE FLY DOWN THE FIELD FOR THE TOUCHDOWS!!

EVEN IN THE STADUM IT CAN BE ALL BIRD FANS LIKE BLUE JAYS AND ROBINS AND PELLICANS CHEERING FOR THEM!

THEY SHOULD MAKE THE OWL AND THE EAGLE TEA SHIRTS AND SIGNS!!

Nemo,

Mike Evans yeah interesting. That game against Bamba he really showed that he can dominate another CB.

Big guy that would be perfect for Thill. However the line reallt needs help too, but yeah Evans a baller for sure my friend.

"I'm told the Dolphins throw maybe a handful of deep ball passes throughout the week of practice. So maybe five deep ball opportunities in four and sometimes three practices."

If this is true it's shameful. Hard to imagine something that has the potential to make a huge in impact in the game is barely touched on. Tannehill and Wallace should be hanging out for an hour after practice everyday to work on it themselves if the coaching staff isn't integrating it into practice.

Bill is a bigger a sshole than you are Baller is Bill. I am certainly not mr bill.

Tim,

Interesting post my friend. You should do some artwork for us and post it to Mando for Christmas.

SO SORRY. BILL A IS NOT BALLER.

I said this in an earlier post and will say it again:

Sherman should switch up Hartline & Wallace so Tannehill can hit Wallace across his body, therefore generating more power.

For a right handed QB he has to twist his body and redo his stance to hit a receiver down the right sideline.

...whereas throwing down the left sideline is much easier with regards to body position, stance and ball flight.

Half of Tannehill's mis-hits to Wallace have gone out of bounds...where on the left side he can aim for the left hash mark and the ball flight will allow the receiver to adjust 'in-field' to make the catch.

Seems pretty fundamental to me and hope Sherman moves Wallace to the right side this Sunday to mix it up.

One more thing...with Daniel Thomas on season ending IR...can we get Jonas Gray back on the roster please!

Guy is a true gamer and has a nose for the endzone.

YES MARCO! CAN I DO THIS AND SEND IT TO HIM AT THE NEWS PAPER HERE?? I THINK EVERY BODY WOULD BUY THE OWL AND THE EAGLE TEA SHIRTS AND SIGNS FROM ME. IT OULD HAVE THEM ON THEM WITH TANEHILLS THE OWL AND MIKE WALLACE THE EAGLE SUPER BIRD STANDING ON ONE SIDE AND THE OTHER SIDE WOULD HAVE TANEHILLS THE OWL THROW THE FOOTBALL TO WALLACE THE EAGLE SUPER BIRD WHEN HE FLYS DOWN THE FIELD AND THEN HE CACH ON FIRE IN THE END ZONE AND THERE IS A TOUCHDOWN EXPLOSON!! ALSO THE FANS IN THE STANDS WILL ALL BE BIRDS LIKE PELLICANS AND BLUE JAYS AND CROWS DRESS UP IN DOLPHIN COLORS!! I CAN MAKE THIS PICTURE AND SEND IT TO ARMADO SAGUERO SOON!!

I watch all the NFL games every Sunday on satellite. You raley ever see a Quarterback miss wide open receivers deep. But Tannehill will miss wide open receivers open deep 2 to 3 times a game. Most Coaches in my opinion would bench I guy for that.

Tim--

WTF?

when do the cicle jerk begins? where is Daytona? Daytona put that lil,boy down and come out and playyyyyy

While in Pittsburgh Wallace would normally lineup on the right side and then cross in deep.

It would be great to see him cut in after the deep out. He then could fight for the ball on the slant and Thill wouldn't throw the ball OB. Maybe its a ball security issue as opponents drop the safety deep on the Wallace double team.

As always, the effectiveness of the Dolphins offensive line will be the biggest key. If the team once again fails to mount any run game, the Steelers--even with their own defensive issues--should be able to easily exploit that and make life miserable for Tannehill.

It is not difficult to defend any offense that is limited to one phase of the game. And in that case, forget about the deep ball. He will never have time to set up and even attempt it.

Marco, that's called a POST PATTERN.

Marco I don't make predictions about a meaningless game. predictions are like religion. they are both empty. Every year I say the dolphins will be 0-16 I stand by that.

and hypocrites can be the leader of the losers club?

YES ND THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH MARCO!! I CAN MAKE THE SONG FOR ARMADO AND ALL THE FAN TO HAVE ALSO!! IT WILL BE ABOUT TANNEHILLS THE OWL AND WALLACE THE SUPER ON FIRE EAGLE AND THEY WILL ALSO PLAY IN THE STADUM ON THE GAMES AND AFTER TOUCHDOWNS FOR ALL THE BIRDS CLAPPING AND JUMPING UP AND DOWN FANS IN THE STANDS!!

TIM,

I would buy the T-shirt too. I think the Owl and the Eagle would be a great nickname for the two guys. They need to be bonded somehow and you could be the artist to do the job.

We had the 'Marks Brothers',

'Killer B's'

'No-Name Defense'

'Miami Pound Machiene'

2013 'The Owl and the Eagle'... why not my friend ?

I love my job. would you like to biggie size that?

Or would Thill be sacked by then my friend ?

I wonder what John Lennon would think of T-hill. I can see John asking T-hill and his wife to join him and Yoko in bed to watch the Dolphins play. This way John would not have to see T-hill miss wide open receivers for sure TD's.

I hate craig m and bill a...they always pick on me. I can never win a debate with them so I go and hide in the little boys room at the burger joint I work at.....mmmm me likey that room.

Ryan Tannehill joined John, Yoko and the Exploding Plastic Inevitable onstage at the Montreal Forum July 7, 1974.

Amazing show.

TIM,

Just a suggestion, but the Lazuli Bunting may also look good in the stands.

Its plumage is a perfect match for our uniform. Its not native to Florida, but the Dolphins have fans as far away as the Falkland Islands, where I live my friend.

NH, then how do you account Tannehill missing deep passes to Hartline on the left side when he's wide open?

I said this in an earlier post and will say it again:

Huh? Twist body to throw right? Most right hand QBs tend to throw to the right. That's why they call the left side the blind side.
I will say Tannehill has more talent than most throwing left. Across the body throws get most QBs in trouble but Tannehill gets away with it most times.

Promichael,

If Lennon met Thill he would say to the young QB as he trots off to the game.....

'Don't let me down'. Then tuck Mrs Tannehill in for the night with him and Yoko, for peace.

Maybe Ritchie Incognito should have a Bed In with Chad Johnson till they are both allowed back on the team ?

Wow this blog has gone Cosmic !!!

cocoajoe,

What other countries have you visited and which were your favorites?

I just think that both John Lennon and Yoko would appreciate all that T-hill has to offer irrespective of his accurate passing skills of course. Regarding T-hills passing accuracy, we will just have to leave that to trick camera work to improve those skills......

Don't know you. But if you're really interested, Little Cayman, Turks & Caicos, Bonaire in no particular order.

Did you guys know that Bill Cowher's grandmother was a missionary in China and that she was one of a handful of American citizens who joined Mao and the Red Army on his "Long Trek" during the Chinese Revolution?

Such a weird fact. Had never heard about that until recently.

That's it??

Oh, well. Hope they were fun.

@ 3:33, believe it or not but ALoco talked about that going back before Philbin's hiring. During the recruiting period, he kept referring to Cowher as the Chinaman.

Ha! That's pretty funny! I don't think Cowher is actually Chinese (the story says his grandmother was an American citizen, anyway) but apparently she was a strong supporter of Chairman Mao and committed to the Communist cause back in the 1940's in China.

Pretty interesting stuff!

Wanna hear something funny?

Dave Wandstache first 4 seasons were winning seasons as the HC of the Dolphins with 2 playoff appearances.

Aside from JJ he was by far the most successful coach the Dolphin's have had in close to 20 years.

Lucille Ball was a Communist Party member, too. In fact, here's her voter registration card (for real):

http://drx.typepad.com/psychotherapyblog/images/2008/04/18/voter_registration_lucille_ball.jpg

Marc, he was also the biggest failure because he inherited a super bowl contending defense. he jsut needed to find a decent Qb and a strong RB. he found one and had the other in his hands in Drew Brees. he also couldn't draft wortha darn. Other than Ogunyele, Chambers, and McMichael, he couldn't find one notable player in his entire time...

He is the reason we are where were are and still trying to find their ways ... in fact Chicago has found sustained success elusive since he ran them into the ground too...

Next Sunday
New OL
How can be successful?

You are what your records says you are.

Those 3 players in 4 years are better than any 3 players any regime since has drafted in that time span.

Not sure how you can place any blame for what the team has currently on him. Pretty sure every player is out of the league by now. Except maybe an old McMichael.

Philbin should switch Garner to RG an place Brener at LG.
MO

Keller, Gibson, Martin, Incognito, Thomas, Jerry.
6 starters out.
OUCH!

Pitagoras,

It is stunning that the NFL isn't ringing you phone off the hook with GM and coaching offers.
