Dennis Hickey introduction live blog

The Dolphins will introduce new general manager Dennis Hickey at 4 p.m Tuesday. That calls for a live blog!

As I have not been here with you in a very long time and as there is a live event, I believe this would be a good time to share thoughts, analysis, opinions, insights as the new Dolphins GM makes his Dolphins debut.

I will be in the comments section for the start of the presser. Join me there.

Tannehill ranked 37th in yards per pass. NUFF SAID.

Geno Smith > Ryan Tannepuke

Benton should be the OL coach, Turner should be the shoeshine boy.

great, spent all that time on a post and it goes nowhere.

Marc, not arguing that Tannehill is a star. Just saying Wilson is not either.

he is average too - at least by looking at his 2013 year.

I thought he was better last year.

Mark, you will never get it, Ive give up trying to help you, Iam talking to others out there in response to your lies.

===============================================

Lets not consider the number of hits, pressures and sacks impacting fumbles or stats for that matter though. I mean, Seattle's O-Line is Superbowl caliber and Tannehill's.........well.......it's not quite ready for Prime Time.

Only in Morco's world, Lol!

4-12 next year.

nuff said is some clown on here trying to evaluate thill after a season where he had worst oline ever, no running game, and the worst ocord in nfl. genius

Lets throw out all of Tannehills bad plays and then evaluate him.

Wilson is 37th in the NFL in pass attempts per game

Seattle 26th in pass offense

I can play this game too

NUFF SAID

Regarless of whatever anyone thinks of THill, he is the QB next year. Even if a QB is drafted he won't sniff the field until at least the year after (barring injury of course). When he was drafted it was known that he could take some time to develope. Let's hope that happens next year. He is not a franchise QB just yet, but with an adequate line and a RB who can block and actually run with power, he can be.
We must have hope. Because if he fails, it will set this team back years again.

I disagree. I believe that Wilson is very good. I think Tannehill is very average.

I believe that Wilson will get better.

I believe that Tannehill has surpassed expectations, but, will not.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Mark Sanchez > Ryan TannePuke

marc switch wilson and thill. seattle is still damn good and miami still sucks

Russel Wilson is BETTER than Andrew Luck.

marco, u accuse me of lies, you wouldn't say that to my face, i guarantee it.

you may disagree but I never lie ...

you puke!! You think I haven't caught you trying to run me down when I'm not here either... I know...

You are the worst kind, man...

Hahhaa, again marco with your stupid stat on INt %.

In year one... tannehill threw an INT 2.7% of the time

year two 2.9%

yet his touchdowns increased by 70%

yardage increased by 18%

operated the 9th best red zone offense in the nfl despite having zero run game or o line.

But his int rate increased marginally, he regressed. Shut the f'k up already...

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | January 28, 2014 at 02:45 PM

Yeah Mark, its a STUPID stat when it doesn't fit your agruement. Its a STUPID stat too that we went, 8-8, its a STUPID stat that Thill had a rating of 44, 4 feckin 4 in hte last two games of the year.

MIT puts Russell Wilson side by side as NFL quarterbacks.... HAHAHA, man you really make yourself dumb.

Marc has just pointed out some nice career stats for you....

Wilson
63.6 comp 6,475 yds 52tds 19 ints 100.6 rat
Tannehill
59.4 comp 7,207 yds 36 tds 30 ints 79.1 rat

Can we please stop comparing the two. Wilson's stats are FAR superior, he's been in the playoffs the past 2 seasons and is headed to a Superbowl.

Posted by: Marc | January 28, 2014 at 02:38 PM.......

Go figure out some new ways to spin the BS line that Thill is as good as Wilson. Anyone in the NFL would laugh at you, you are truly pathetic my friend.

I knew it wouldn't be too long before the BS insults would begin to flow from your mouth. Your love of Thill is overpowering your senses... Hmmmmm methinks you may have a wipe-clean pillow case with Thills faces on it.

Wilson would've had the Fins in the SB.

Wallace hates TannePuke for a reason. NO ACCURACY!

Marc, do yourself a favour and go back and watch that NFL championship game. Watch Wilson in the pocket... see if that is what a qb should look like? I think the odds are higher this guy is flash in the pan than future mvp.

Ryan Tannehill = Another Irescum bust.

Bottom line is tannehill had a quality year behind one of the worst oline's in the history of the NFL and the worst of the franchise. He had zero running game to aid his cause.

He just finished his second year people. The guy has improved from year one to year two, all be it with less than 20 college starts.

One thing I think Ireland got right was the QB he brought in to be the future. Give RT even a solid oline and decent running game and you will see him elevate his game to probowl level

Didnt we all know that Ireland cant pick a QB? lol

If I recall correctly, Tannehill wasn't expected to start immediately in his first year. Gerrard was, then he had his health issue.

But Tannehill's knowledge of the Sherman's playbook gave him an advantage over Moore.

Tannehill could improve or regress with a new playbook and new HC.

I'd like to know if Hickey is willing to bring in a FA QB to push Tannehill and possibly make it an open competition.

I don't believe Tannehill should get an automatic pass.

Marco, what happened the only time Tannehill faced Wilson?

Besides that, AGAIN YOU ILLETERIATE MONKEY BOY (all apologies to ODin), I said based on this year... this YEAR ... THIS FRIGGIN YEAR...

And the name calling is because I caught you saying when you thought I wasn't here. Not for disagreeing.

I disagree with marc on a daily basis, but we know how to discuss.

You? I just don't like you, ur useless.. worthless...

Like I said before ... THE WORST KIND.

One thing for sure, this coaching staff put way too much of the burden on THill with the bad play designs and calls, poor blocking schemes and OL, and no running game. He should have been a game manager in his second year, yet had the burden of winning put on his shoulders.
Next season is key, next season is key.
I have faith in Hickey to upgrade the OL and RB. I think the new OC will design and call better plays. If that is done, no more excuses if THill fails.

Wilson is 37th in the NFL in pass attempts per game

Seattle 26th in pass offense

I can play this game too

No you cant....

Wilson
63.6 comp 6,475 yds 52tds 19 ints 100.6 rat
Tannehill
59.4 comp 7,207 yds 36 tds 30 ints 79.1 rat

Nuff said.

19-0
20-7

lol

Lots of excuses for TannePuke! LOL

I watched the game. It was against the 49ers D! I don't recall too many QB's looking great against that D in recent years! However, they still managed to pull out the win.

Look nobody knows for sure, but, as of now, Wilson and his stats put RT's to shame, and he's headed to the SB.

Next season is a new season. After that we can shop for a real QB.

NO ACCURACY! NUFF SAID!

Stats in 2013 in isolation, no they don't put his to shame... but anyway

Odin missed the point because he's clearly too dumb to know what the word shill means.

Proof ?

He used it wrong.

...and even after I explained to him the significance of a shill criticizing The Dolphins quarterback and what that could mean for his career.

Odin the uneducated dunce is still lost.

Attempts to call me a parrot.

Ladies and gentlemen these types of malfunctions in communications are all too prevalent in society.

70-100 IQ's are the norm.

If god created man in his own image and likeness, then god must be dumb.

Odin certainly is.

Look up the word shill, retard.

Then work on your reading comprehension.

Lmao what a moron.

The same football morons that loved Henne love Tannehill. TOO FUNNY!

Everyone thought Marc Sanchez was the greatest thing ever.
Then the #1 defense fell back to earth and Marc Sanchez suddenly became Mr. Butt-Fumble.
Take away Russell Wilson's #1 defense and you would have an average QB.

lol

I read elsewhere that Vick or Freeman could be brought in to push Tannehill.

The article didn't say if they'd be given the chance to be the starter.

Turner is out? I missed that one. There is a common sense God! 2 words, "sixty sack." Best news of offseason so far.

Tannehill is the next Carson Palmer, Joe Flacco, Jay Cutler

Marco.

More goes into a QB than just his numbers. Wilson is on a complete team. Put Wilson on the dolphins and his numbers would be same or worse. Seattle has arguably the best defense and run game in the NFL and a top flight oline. Tannehill had none of that and all year was pulling games out of his ass to save the dolphins season.

Wilson is a fine QB but to say he's light years ahead of RT is not accurate. I'd say that Seattle is more going to the Super Bowl because of the defense and run game

With Benton on board now, I sure hope I can change my username.

Marc, do yourself a favour and go back and watch that NFL championship game. Watch Wilson in the pocket... see if that is what a qb should look like? I think the odds are higher this guy is flash in the pan than future mvp.

Mark you should do the Just For Laughs in Montreal, no really.

Go help yourself dude and watch Thill in the last two games of this season. You are backing that over Wilson, you don't even believe what you are saying, you just want to fight.

Did Wilson make the Pro Bowl twice?
Can't remember but that would kinda settle the Tanne vs. Wilson debate?
But none of that matters. The only thing that matters is how will this team and QB perform next year, and beyond?
After this season's debacle, all I wanted to see were changes. And Ross did do that, albeit in his usual clumsy manner.
Who cares what other team's QB do?

Fumbles Tanny 18 9 lost, Wilson 16, 8 lost

Posted by: Marc | January 28, 2014 at 02:41 PM

most of Tannehills fumbles can after being blind sided by unblocked pass rushers.

Total offense

Seattle 17
Miami 27

Rush Offense

Seattle 4
Miami 26

Total Defense

Seattle 1
Miami 21

Pass defense

Seattle 1
Miami 16

Run defense

Seattle 4
Miami 24

Turnovers forced

Seattle 1
Miami 19

Red zone defense

Seattle 1
Miami 5

passing offense

Seattle 26
Miami 20

Red zone offense

Seattle 11
Miami 9

So Seattle is vastly superior to Miami in every category except the two at the end that are heavily influenced by Qb play and yet Miami is 8-8 and Seattle is going to the Super Bowl because Wilson is vastly superior to Tannehill... uh, yeah,.... that makes sense.

Dolfan 29 @ 3:19

You hit the nail on the head.
Defense wins SB's.
Just ask these SB winning QB's:
Jim McMahon
Jeff Hostetler
Mark Rypien
Trent (the Dildo) Dilfer
Brad Johnson

Bottom line is tannehill had a quality year behind one of the worst oline's in the history of the NFL and the worst of the franchise. He had zero running game to aid his cause.

He just finished his second year people. The guy has improved from year one to year two, all be it with less than 20 college starts.

Thill had great pass protection against the Jets. On one play he had around 5 seconds and threw a horrible incomplete pass to Matthews. Ok he has a couple of drops in that game, but so did Geno Smith, I mean Geno outplayed him in the game as Thad Lewis line, behind equally bad o-lines and weaker Wr's and TE's.

So Thill needs a Pro-bowl line to work as an average game manager, well we won't ever have than folks. As to the point about our backs, they averaged 4 yards a pop, not that bad, 16th in the NFL.

Many of the sacks were caused by Thill holding on to the ball way too long instead of throwing it away, watch the game tape.

marco, that post wasn't addressed to you... you fat italian sausage...

If asked, Ross is going to claim that they didn't have 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for the GM offer. They were all 1st choice candidates and the Dolphins simply progressed through the alphabetical order, by last name. Hickey was offered the position 3rd simply because H just happened to follow D which just happened to follow C ...

True:

Tannehill has shown glimpses of very good qb play

False:

Is it enough to anoint him anything past toilet bowl qb of the future?

True:

The most important stat to grade a qb on is: "Is he a winner"?

False:

Is failing to score a single in 4th quarter point in 8gms a small speed bump in the road on the way to greatness?

I am no expert but when I go to stats on NFL.com they have THill rated 10th and Wilson rated 16th.

Now with that said and to be more than obvious, the 2 players play on different teams. Seattle has 1 of the best D's in the league along with a great running game and very good pass protection. THill was sacked 14 more times than Wilson.

We need to build the team around THill and that includes a true TE, better Oline, a better run game, better WR's and I hope we've improved play calling with Sherman exit and new OC.

We shall see!

Notice Wilson was under pressure most of this video.

Marc, Wilson had 10 fumbles to Tannehill's 9 this year.

Tannehill also had 588 pass attempts to cumulate those 9 fumbles to Wilson's 407.

Tannehill also was much better in limiting fumbles and turnovers overall in the 2nd half of the year.

marco, that post wasn't addressed to you... you fat italian sausage...

Now now Mark, try not to show your lack of class my friend. Canadiens are meant to be above all the name calling and infantile behaviour that Americans are acussed of displaying.

You have lost your arguement, deal with it my very good friend.

He did improve as the year progressed. I'll give you that; after he lost a couple games due to fumbling in the 4th.

If you're hitching your wagon to RT you better be a Jay Cutler, or Flacco fan, cause that's as good as it'll ever get.

lost the argument? According to what? I didn't even address you except to call you a puke or fat italian sausage.

I would gladly debate with people here i like to debate with.

You, ur shite. I have no time for you except to call you u a fatt fukkkk. no slag off.

I haven't been this depressed since the Philbin hire. :(

Having watched a few Seattle games this year I must say Wilson was running for his life in those games. He is very quick escaping pressure. Seattle's OL sucks at pass blocking and their receiving corp is not as good as the Phins.
Right now, yes Wilson is a better QB.
On to next year, folks!

MIT,

Dont ya wish you could actually curse on this blog? Instead of sounding like an angry Klingon LOL

The canadian is clueless.

I want to find out Hickey's opinion of James Buchanon, the 15th president of the United States.

History has ranked him as the worst president of all. I say Franklin Pierce was less effective.
