Dolphins interviewing Nick Caserio today

While the Dolphins have already identified at least two finalists for their general manager job, they are still doing first-round interviews with one candidate today:

Nick Caserio, the top personnel department man in the New England Patriots organization is on deck for this afternoon, according to a team source.

I told you earlier the Dolphins might do more interviews this week before doing their finalist interviews. It seems at the time they were working on getting permission to talk to Caserio.

The idea of interviewing Caserio for the first time, a day before finalist interviews begin, is not exactly the most elegant way to conduct business. The Dolphins recognize this. But they figure you cannot always look beautiful while winning.

Winning ugly is good.

And talking to Caserio is a win.

This is how this is going to work, as explained to me by the team:

Caserio, 38, will interview today and if he is impressive to the point where he belongs among the finalists, he will move to that group this weekend for a second interview. If he is not worthy, in the team's eyes, then the club will move to its finalists interviews without Caserio.

[Update: The Dolphins announced around 1:30 p.m. that Caserio's interview had been completed].

Miami must endeavor the subvert the dominant paradigm in this process.

LOL @ Rdubs.....

I know your still gonna root for the guy....your a FIN FAN...kinda like with me and Tanne....

I'm not a Tanne fan......but I can't root against him.....just point out his inconsistencies when they happen....which is often....

I think Caserio interviews for the same reasons that most/all others in his position have.....he's young and looking to move up, wants to have more responsibility and make more money.....and he realizes that opportunities to interview for a GM spot dont come along too often--grab it while you can....and if he's playing us/Ross for some reason, so be it....he's still smart to put himself in play, get the experience, try to put himself in a better position--listening, Ray Farmer?

Italians are too easily confused by shiny objects. Buyer beware!

Interview over. That was fast.

"You want the job?"

"no"

"ok, well here's a Miami Dolphins bumper sticker and 2014 foldout pocket schedule"

Ross, just give him what he wants and let him fire Philbin. No one would really care, except maybe Philbin

Mark,

That was funny

Benz....

can you @ least cite me if your gonna take my work to another blog (@ 1:46)....

or @ least give me an honorable mention....

in due time, Rdubs, in due time....I cant imagine having to wait a year, if thats what it comes down to, would be such a big issue

Parcells was a Patriot too and look how badly he messed up this organization. Just because he's a NE guy doesn't mean he knows what he's doing

Bellichik spy. Sent to confirm Dolphins will never be a threat as long as Stephen Ross is owner.

Benz @ 1:46...

can you cite me next time you take my work from one blog to the next....

or @ least give me an honorable mention.....

I'm copying this one...in case it doesn't post like the last one......

MIT,

You're on a roll today. Good stuff.

Wait a minute, if you're talking about changing the structure and giving complete control to the GM, let's start over again and tell Gamble things have changed. Damn this is the stupidest crap I've ever seen

Could you imagine Ross, Philbin and Caserio standing side by side?...

Freak show.

Jim, well then you know about I dream of Jeannie Ln. not far from there, right?

Toronto Mark'
Funny. I cracked up! Thanks for the laughter.

Krillian,

Been away for a bit, but I wanted to respond to your question from the last blog.

It's been well reported that Philbin did not want Dansby/Burnett because they were too "expressive" (my word). They did not fit into the type of player Philbin likes (one who "keeps his mouth shut"). So if the HC wants new personnel, all the GM can do is abide by his wishes, no? I don't blame Ireland for that. Was there more too it (money, etc.)? Maybe, but with the amount we had to spend (and gave the 2 new LBs) I doubt it (plus that was never mentioned anywhere I've read).

As far as Coyle, I'm probably blame him less than others here, but we ALL have to admit his defense definitely regressed in terms of run stopping. I do like their improvements in turnovers, defense scoring, but basically those stats all countered each other and got us to 8-8.

And I'm not sure guys were singing Philbin's praises at 8-6. I think the guy is dull and not very accomplished at any one thing (like McCarthy is a great play-caller, Rex Ryan is a great defensive mind, what's Philbin great at?). You're right though, winning cures all, but that will have to be shown in the flesh before myself (or other skeptical Dolphins fans) fall for "take my word for it."

Look, the franchise shouldn't expect differently. FANS and POSTERS HERE shouldn't expect differently. Some people just support their team no matter what, and that's fine. But after FIVE consecutive losing Seasons, 1 Playoff appearance in a decade, 17 or so QB changes, 4 or so GM changes, 5 or so HC changes, it's not surprising fans are agitated, dismissive, questioning, critical, etc. of the team. This franchise has not earned the trust of the fanbase from it's recent history. Neither has this Owner. I wouldn't expect anyone to really change their minds (from skepticism to blind support) until they prove it on the football field next season.

Maybe Ross is trying to reassemble the Adams family

Heck, if they are handing out complete control, let's call Matt DeCosta .... Gamble doesn't deserve that action....

Wait a minute, if you're talking about changing the structure and giving complete control to the GM, let's start over again and tell Gamble things have changed. Damn this is the stupidest crap I've ever seen

If I was Ross, I'd have a Brinks truck on the way. But at this point, I wonder if that would be enough.

Didnt some posters say the Pats drafts were WORSE than Ireland's? So why are we interviewing a Pats scout?

"he's young and looking to move up, wants to have more responsibility and make more money.....and he realizes that opportunities to interview for a GM spot dont come along too often--grab it while you can...."

And the fact that the candidates aren't grabbing the GM spot while they can, saying no thanks instead to the Dolphins, makes our rebuffs humiliating.

Could you imagine Ross, Philbin and Caserio standing side by side?...

Freak show.

Would look like a real life rendition of Zombie Files.

No no no, the worst thing they can do is bribe someone to come. Money doesn't fuel the fire that is passion.... passion = drive. Drive + intelligence = victory.

DC the most important stat is points allowed.

I said it before and will say it again: Gaine will get the job. This whole "process" is nothing but a sham. They did not foresee however; candidates would self-withdraw their name from consideration in droves.

The absence of Miami personnel, especially coaching, at the SB exacerbated an already tarnished image of the team. Browns brass may have also impacted Farmer to withdraw his name. As Alex Marvez reported, the Dolphins have successfully destroy their image. The whole Bess thing will make it harder for them to make future deals, no more gotcha moves.

I heard this listener on wqam who brought one of the more insightful comments I've heard in quite a while: despite change atop for several years, there has been key personnel that always remained, not once since Shula left, there has been a complete redo hence the perpetual mediocrity.

Honestly Mr. Ross can not afford anything but a complete overhaul. Everyone must go. I wish he could go to the league for assistance since he too needs to rid himself from any advice from the likes like Carl Peterson, Mangini, and former Jets brass.

The only hope remains here is the Wells report is so condemning that it will force Ross' hand. However for it to make an impact I wish the findings are shown today or anywhere before the new GM is hired.

Didnt some posters say the Pats drafts were WORSE than Ireland's? So why are we interviewing a Pats scout?

Its called DESPERATION!! LOL

The Dolphins are that weird kid sitting in the corner by himself that nobody wants to dance with.

Ross has to pay double anyone else to get a coach or a player to join the crap Dolphins.

Too many problems in Miami - won't make a difference who is hired, will continue to be a mediocre team for years to come.

Can he bring Brady, McDaniels, blount with him too?

So...eleven GM interviews without a hire has to be a record!! LMAO!!

OK, sounds good to me

Mediocre would be a huge improvement for these jokers.

No Italians. We already endured their incompetence with Tony Sparano and Tom Olivadotti. Not smart enough people.
Posted by: james evans | January 24, 2014 at 12:20 PM

F*ck you, Evans you mick bastard. and don't forget, no italian owned the team ever so who is the real stupid incompetent moron, you mental midget...Ireland was not italian and sparano said he gave him a shitty team to work with so screw you you retarded moron. i hate racist comments and racial slurs. go to college and learn something you prejudiced dummy.

the italian stallion

How owner Rdubs would close the deal on Cesario

How much do you want to get paid? Ok I can do that

You dont trust Dawn and Joe? Well Sir your 4 years are guaranteed, due to the fact that we have talent and were close to a playoff spot. Perhaps we should give them this year and see if we can get this ship in the right direction. if you feel they are incapable by the end of the year, we can let the go and you can hire your coach?

If you want to sign a FA or re-sign a current player, feel free to do it at any time. Dawn will oblige and sign them, any static give me a call

Yes you may bring in Josh Mcdaniels as your head coach next year, if you want too

Rocco, so are you blaming the Jews (team owner)?

I would consult Me Gibson before launching that action...

some times our ears get in the way of our overall vision. It's hard to see the big picture.

It's like when your using your camera and your thumb is covering half the lens

What does any of it matter, anyway? We are all going to die and be forgotten either way.

Please no Josh McDaniels. I think anybody ever responsible for trading up into the first round for Tim Tebow should be banned from any decision making job forever...

@ 2:20, That's the spirit!!!

Marino isnt the brightest bulb in the closet. He failed his wonderlic lol. He's italian.

BB probably gave this guy the go-ahead to interview with Miami cuz he's actually an alien and would fit right in with the other space cadets running this joke of a franchise.

I have to admit the anti-Italian argument is pretty strong, haha

Incognito! Another dumb Italian. You cannot put those people in any position where they can influence a team. Italians should only be janitors or car detailers.
Posted by: james evans | January 24, 2014 at 01:05 PM

------
another dumb mental midget comment from james evans, racist. i will put my brains against yours anyday. easy competition.

Yeah, Incognito is as dumb as they come.

Not sure Josh McDaniels is very good. He only has had success while with the Pats. Completely screwed Denver. Glad he didn't go to the Browns, they've had enough pain.

I would be so glad if we hired him but now they end the meeting like now tell me we got no shot now.

This guy will mind meld with PhilPonte and create this all encompassing GM/Coach/Cap Specialist hybrid creature that eventually consume Ross and kill all the players with it's brain, finally ending this team's misery.

Nick: Hi Mr. Ross! Thanks for having me in!

Ross: You're welcome! You come highly reccomended!

PhilPonte: We've decided we don't like you...

Ross: Well thanks for coming in, Nick! I hope you don't mind paying your own way back to NE.

PhilPonte, human centipede?

Commonsense,

Dont you hate it when you are hungry and the person in front of you is constipated? LMAO in your mouth

Nick Caserio will lead us to the SB!

Let us wait and see if the new guy understands the front office set up.

I never heard of this kid.

This would be the first black GM for Miami(Caserio)

I dont think Ross wants a black GM...or HC....or QB.

No no no, the worst thing they can do is bribe someone to come. Money doesn't fuel the fire that is passion.... passion = drive. Drive + intelligence = victory.

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | January 24, 2014 at 02:04 PM

Relax Mark, it 'll never happen. Nether side wants the other.

Maybe we can hire Mike Sherman as GM. I hear he is available and he gets along with Philbin.
