Dolphins, Ireland go separate ways

Jeff Ireland is no longer the Dolphins general manager.

The Dolphins just announced Ireland and club owner Stephen Ross "have mutually agreed to part ways" after six seasons.

The team will conduct an immediate search to bring new leadership to head the team’s football operations.

“I want to personally thank Jeff for his hard work and dedication in building the team over the past six years,” said Ross. “After a series of discussions, we both felt that it was in our mutual best interest to part ways. Jeff was a loyal and dedicated member of the Dolphins and we wish him and his family nothing but the best."

Ireland was obviously not safe after the end-of-season collapse by the team that saw consecutive losses to last-place Buffalo and the New York Jets. Ireland and the personnel department argued the problem was primarily in that the talent was not maximized.

Coach Joe Philbin argued he needed more talent to get better results.

Ross obviously has sided with Philbin.

A club source said Ireland was going to lose much if not all his decision-making power on personnel. Ross intended to bring in someone with personnel powers over Ireland. That was not acceptable to Ireland.

The parting of way is a courtesy to Ireland.

“I’ve spent the last six years with the best organization in football,” Ireland said.  “Steve and I came to an agreement that the best thing moving forward for all parties would be to part ways.  I’d like to thank Steve for all his support and kindness. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people during this time and I’d like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart."

The Dolphins have not parted ways with assistant GM Brian Gaine. But even if Gaine remains the team is very likely to bring in someone over him.

wow! fans go wild

Careful what you wish for.....

New start. Slightly concerning that grey man Philbin is still here, but he's got one season or he's out too. New GM, new era.

Hey Jeff please take Mr.Magoo, aka Joe Philbin wih you.

It's a great day!!!!!! Soooo glad to see this happen it's been a long time coming. Woo hoo

what took so long?????? fans knew it 4 years ago.

Last night my Noles' bring home the crystal and now this. 2014 is going to be a great year!

Espn rumors Dawn Aponte moves up. As long as Ireland's gone we can dream new ways to be sick.

Finally!!!!!!!!!, se va Ireland!!!!.
Now let's hope Ross have the "wisdom" to bring a special General Manager to guide this once proud NFL Franchise in the right way!!.

"Ireland and the personnel department argued the problem was primarily in that the talent was not maximized.

Coach Joe Philbin argued he needed more talent to get better results."

This is pure speculation but you write it as though it was fact. But that's what you do best right? Douche.

but Ireland had worn out his welcome some time ago.

Just like you.

no word if Ireland asked if anyone's mom was a prostitute on his way through the parking lot.

And the switchboards began to light up with callers placed on hold for new season ticket sales!

Ross does not learn from his mistakes.

First he fires the coach and keeps the GM.

Next he fires the GM and keeps the coach.

He'll wish both times he made a clean sweep of both.

I thought Ireland had done ok this year. better to have sacked Philbin. A coach who can't talk to his players after a game without using cue cards will never win an SB. There's still a leadership void in the team and coaching, how will that be fixed?

If we make the broad our GM, we will be even more of a laughing stock than what we are now!

...When you spend as much as the Phins did in free agency, when you trade up to the 3 spot from out of the top 10(never happened in the history of the draft for a non qb spot) when you do all this and your team is 8-8.....

Catch a plane and beat it Ireland.

Bring in the China man!

Hope Jason Taylor Marino or Pioli as the new Miami Dolphins General Manager,Phibin is going to be a one year Head Coach, unless he really takes the Dolphins deep into the Playoff's.

It great news folks! I just wish they would of fired the coach and his staff. Did the players look motivated against the Jets and Buffalo? Greg Cote wrote a article about the attitude of the players in the locker room after the Jets game. You should read his article in the Hearld.

Watch Ireland wind up with a ring next year.

This is incredibly good news, it was beyond time to move on. Let's get someone who can evaluate talent and actually have some draft picks see the field this year! Woohoooooo go Dolphins!

No recycled Jet Trash PLEASE!

espn said Aponte will have a lot of say on next GM

That's all fine and dandy but explain to me how we find an OC worth a damn knowing it could be one and done?

Now we can call Ross helicopter "the whopper chopper".

that racist left over parcell's POS doo doo, glorified ball boy is gone...

someone pinch me...

If we make the broad our GM, we will be even more of a laughing stock than what we are now!

Phillie, But our uniforms would make more sense then...

Can we now tank 2014 for Famous Jameis Winston?

Aponte is going to have say on new GM, not be the new GM...

Still think the best way would have been a full house cleaning but I will take it. Ross has to find a guy who has the same philosophy that philbin does as the players picked must match the style being played.

I do however think finding a GM who can't select his own coach could be trouble. What GM is going to attach his rep to philbin. I like the changes thus far but fear the backwards nature it's being done in.

restore ur good name ross, now lets get rid of philbin, let new gm do it, ur hands will be clean

Please, no more experimental gm's!

GM needs to be a proven talent evaluator pure and simple..

Who will want to work with pimpledick Philbin?

Keep the coach and fire the GM. It worked for Rex Ryan I guess.

best part is...all the FIRELAND chumps will go away

the worst part is...they will all turn on Philbin now.
gotta give Philbin AND Tannehill a chance.

Mr Ross..please get rid of our jaw dropping, mouth breather of a coach...looks stunned on every play. he might be senial. can't make the adjustments, motovate or run a club...watch Hard Knocks. Bring in Chud or get Mike Nolan Back..NOW before this draft goes to sh&t

Philbin is the perfect coach for this team. His coordinators were suspect but Philbin is the right coach for this team. We need stability at the Head Coaching position and churning our coordinators is better than rebuilding every three to five years with a new coach. Shula was a constant and we need that more at the Head Coaching position. I don't want to go through new head coaches like they were fads, let's keep one HC and if we need to turn-over our coordinators, so be it. Let's not ax the HC until he pulls a 1-15 season. The way I see it, Philbin has improved by one game from season one to season two. Let's give him a chance to build HIS team instead of getting a team built to one coach and then the following year have to rebuild the personnel because we have a new coach and scheme.

Bring in a GM that will work with Philbin and the coordinators to bring the right personnel, whether through the draft of free agency.

Win, lose, or tie... Dolphins till I die!!!

restore ur good name ross, now lets get rid of philbin, let new gm do it, ur hands will be clean

I so hope Ross names an experienced gm. No more "on-the-job training. That's the kind of gm I trust to name his own hc.

It's about time you posted this.

Hopefully the new GM will convince Ross to get rid of Robert Duvall

lets hope new gm fires philbin

mike nolan for PRES

Thank you Mr. Ross, Finally,,, IRELAND OUT OF HERE,

Philbin might still end up gone. If new G.M. thinks its best for organization.

I'm glad Ireland is gone (two years too late, I might add), but the reality is that had Tannehill not played his two worst NFL games at the worst time possible, Ireland would still be in Davie ....

Then again, Ireland drafted Tannehill so he made his own bed.

Tanny your next if you miss another wode open receiver past 20 yards...

agree sam, this is getting good now

The Czar was coming and the guy who did not understand that when you unload talent at a position that you must have equal talent to replace that talent is finally dismissed. Can you imagine that he wanted to continue the same BS without giving up power. Get lost Jeff........

Joe "No Passion" Philbin must be out as well.

philbin needs to go now for a perfect offseason

God is great !! No ex jets please Ross, use the nfl Pioli anyone from Seattle just do it !!

I hope Ireland phoned his grandma?

sad part is ross actually wanted to keep ireland around, hes just to nice
