Dolphins, Ireland go separate ways

Jeff Ireland is no longer the Dolphins general manager.

The Dolphins just announced Ireland and club owner Stephen Ross "have mutually agreed to part ways" after six seasons.

The team will conduct an immediate search to bring new leadership to head the team’s football operations.

“I want to personally thank Jeff for his hard work and dedication in building the team over the past six years,” said Ross. “After a series of discussions, we both felt that it was in our mutual best interest to part ways. Jeff was a loyal and dedicated member of the Dolphins and we wish him and his family nothing but the best."

Ireland was obviously not safe after the end-of-season collapse by the team that saw consecutive losses to last-place Buffalo and the New York Jets. Ireland and the personnel department argued the problem was primarily in that the talent was not maximized.

Coach Joe Philbin argued he needed more talent to get better results.

Ross obviously has sided with Philbin.

A club source said Ireland was going to lose much if not all his decision-making power on personnel. Ross intended to bring in someone with personnel powers over Ireland. That was not acceptable to Ireland.

The parting of way is a courtesy to Ireland.

“I’ve spent the last six years with the best organization in football,” Ireland said.  “Steve and I came to an agreement that the best thing moving forward for all parties would be to part ways.  I’d like to thank Steve for all his support and kindness. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people during this time and I’d like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart."

The Dolphins have not parted ways with assistant GM Brian Gaine. But even if Gaine remains the team is very likely to bring in someone over him.

Yep, end zone. just saw a stadium map and you guys are not far away!

and lol to that response to the republican guy even though I avoid the political stuff here.

I also post here under "tj turner" but last time I did someone trolled it right away!

"The rules have changed" If your are referring to me please point that out I will be happy to go on!

I tip my hat to Mr. Ross.

He dropped a Swiss bank of cash last year, and made it rain in South Flo. What did it get him? Pissed off. You can bet he is drawing a line, and it ain't the kind you'd find on Incognitos living room mirror.

Next:
1.) We need an EXPERIENCED GM and OC with a winning and proven track records. No exceptions.

2.) Continue to build, then solidify the mastermind panel of advisers.

Gary Davis, AWESOME!! Have probably seen you sitting there with those crazies multiple times! REAL FANS.

The rest of you--outta here and have a good night. And YES I WILL be calling the hypocrites out here and making life uncomfortable for them, lol.

I mean every word of my sign in name. GO DOLPHINS!

racemn2--wasn't talking about you as far as I know. Have a good night!

"Know your roll" post you occupation and job status please!

take care RULES HAVE CHANGED. great stuff and good to talk to a true Dolphins fan!! I'm out too.

Apparently, Ross IS Boss.

I don't think I am anyone of relevance. I just don't sit here thinking I am some football CZAR and do nothing to contribute to society. Look at your user name. How many do you have? And yes we sell the best tires!. LOL

Mando…..there you go again on twitter….."the Dolphins are a nightmare"…..really?--a nightmare?--no, they're just a mediocre 8-8 team that is drafting 19th……only 13 teams draft after them--how is that a "nightmare"?

It's $25 just to park.
In 15 years I've never seen anyone buy a ticket for $20. Even nose bleed.
You'll be better off asking someone to just give you a ticket.

RULES HAVE CHANGED IS OFFERING FREE TICKETS! NOT! HE'S TOO BROKE!

Only an nincompoop would bring up finance.

Who are the top GM picks available?

FACK YEAH! I LOVE STEPHEN ROSS! NO GET RID OF GAINS AND THE SCOUTS!

It's not 25 bucks to park if you leave your car by the school east of the turnpike (free) or pay someone over there 5 bucks to park on their lawn. And you can always get a ticket in the parking lots for 20 bucks or less.

you are just looking for an excuse not to go. or stupid.

My problem is I am a die hard fan. It is just so tiring to see all the negativity that comes out of these blogs. Read this and tell me it does not make sense!

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that?

we blew the first Buff game, had carolina at 4 and 10 to win the game and blew that. Scored 7 pts in the final two games. should of been 12-4. how is this JI fault. say whatever you want about JI, but this coaching staff need to go.

I don't know why some people are sticking up for Jeff irescum when this idiot all he did was waste draft picks after draft picks and if not he let them go for nothing in return for instance ted jinn jr drafted him in the first round and released him for nothing in return same with Vontae Davis,Sean smith also he let Brandon Marshall go for two third round when he gave up two second round for him and also gave up two second round for dion Jordan another bad deal and if i keep naming the bad deals he has made the list goes on

Football is unimportant mindless joy.

It doesn't matter.

But nothing does.

Ireland might not be the best GM in the NFL but that two game collapse is Philbins fault all the way. Ireland is not the coach,,,Philbin is. I keep hearing how much talent the dolphins have,,including Mando,,,,where did this talent come from? Not Philbin,,,Ross your an idiot,,,,

Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like I've been asleep for years watching my beloved team and I have now finally reawakened to a beautiful sunshiney day!!!!!

Now bring on Pioli and let him clean up some more. Starting by calling into the office "Lurch" (the Adams family butler) Whoopsie...I meant Coach.

"Please send Coach in my office." Coach: "You raaaang."

Is Ross dead yet?

Ireland put this team in position to make the playoffs, plain and simple. All they had to do was beat BUF or NYJ. That should be a slam dunk for any motivated team. Not making the playoffs is Philbin's doing not Ireland's. Plus how can we blame Ireland for the Dion Jordan pick? That was one of the best trade ups in terms of value that I can remember. Everyone had Jordan as the best D player in the draft. Philbin and Koyle have mishandled him so poorly, I fear Dion will never be a real threat.

And why have we not fired the Offensive Line coach yet? This proves that Philbin is really sort of clueless. We have no running game and can't protect the QB and the O line coach is safe? Please! Ross has way too much faith in Philbin. This will bite us again but unfortunately it will be after a few more years of futility.

Miami is always playing the blame game. It used to be that Marino couldn't win the big one, or we couldn't win cold weather games. Then it was we didn't have a QB ater Marino left. Then we blamed Cam Carmeron, then Parcells, then Sporano, now Ireland. Next winter it will be Philbin, then Aponte. Then Tannehill will be a free agent and he'll get the blame.

News flash Miami, the quality on the field starts with the quality of the ownership of the team. Ross has proven that he is in way over his head. I think he's probably a real nice guy and obviously a smart one, but the NFL, it's just not his thing, even though he wants it to be his thing.

And of course, no decent GM would come here unless he brings his own HC. Way to go Ross! This man simply does not learn from his mistakes.

So this makes Philbin the MAN here? SMH, look forward to another mediocre season.

Jason Taylor would be a good fit as G.M. For the Miami Dolphins.(just saying)

yeah, be careful what you wish for. Fire Fire Fire is not the answer, fix, is the answer, so, fix your mouths and say something positive for once.
