Judgment day 1 over: Stephen Ross departs

Well, seven hours after he arrived at Dolphins camp in his helicopter on what was expected to be an axe-wielding mission, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross fired up his flying machine and left.

The helicopter was apparently the only thing Ross fired (up).

No one was let go -- people at Dolphins camp exhale -- as today was apparently more a fact finding day. Ross and advisor Matt Higgins are said to have met with both general manager Jeff Ireland and head coach Joe Philbin.

I am assuming each man explained to the owner why he believes the Dolphins finished the season 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

This isn't about reliving the season, folks. Ross saw the games. I assume he wanted to get the why and not so much the what out of Ireland and Philbin. And I assume he asked for their contingency plans for getting the team in the playoffs in 2014.

Both Ireland and Philbin obviously survived a potential judgment day. But this is not yet settled.

I hope your are right on Jordan Orlando. I don't mean to be a pessimist.

I would rather be wrong and he becomes a beast than be right and he never finds his niche.

Again my argument isn't so much against Jordan as it was that it didn't fit a need and we needed the 2nd rder we traded up to get him.

Btw, Ireland did get some kudos for moving up that high and just giving up a 2nd rder.

Ireland goes 6 YEARS WITHOUT A WINNING RECORD and HE'S SAFE?? Are u F'N kiddin me?

He won 11 games in 2008.

I wonder who is last on the train chain in the Dolphins facility?

He won 11 games in 2008.

Shula went 17-0 in 1972

which one is right:

1- bum
2-bumb(cid the dinks spelling)

Jerry doesn't fit any o+line scheme. Tub of Goo Sparano fell in love with at Senior Bowl cuz he was polite & coachablr (i. e. Sparano butt boy)

Ireland is doing better than most GM's over the last 3 years. He has arrived. Keep him.

Don't cloud your minds with nonsense. Learn to see the big picture.

Boycott this team and its idiot owner. Next year at this time will be feeling it all over again, 7-9 or 8-8. Not me!

He won 11 games in 2008.

So did Sparano

The LT for Alabama looks good out there. He may be our LT/RT next year.

Everyone knows that 2008 was all Parcells.

NJPHIN once blew Charles Barkley in an alley in Alabama.

Doesn't he need to develop?? jk

Do you think Ireland would have drafted Brent Grimes??

Posted by: Dolfan Rick | January 02, 2014 at 10:24 PM

Sad thing is, nobody drafted Brent Grimes, he was signed by Atlanta as an undrafted rookie free agent.

You're right Orlando, the year Parcells plucked all of his ex Cowboys and Jets veterans that could still play and get the last QB that could lead us anywhere in Pennington. Not to mention a cakewalk schedule and a gimmicky little Wildcat thing that nobody knew was coming.

That had Ireland written all over it. lol
How have the other 5 years been?

I keep hoping some of the good bloggers will come back. What we have now is all adolescant hip hop.

Irescum drafted Philip Merling and Jonathan Martin

I named my last turd after you.

Can you do it..? Or will you just shoot me down and keep right on whining..?

We'll see I suppose....

I would be more than happy to take you up on that dare! You must be kidding thinking there would be a shortage of ideas on this blog! The biggest issue here outside the resident troll is that everybody has an idea so coming to one particular line of thinking with the other reg's is difficult!

I start with my F.O. and bring in ALA Denver an emotionally invested person who will hold everybody accountable. Some thinking Marino but I like Nat Moore as that elder statesman who would put himself heart-n-soul into the job. If he were to decline I would look at the F.O.'s in Baltimore and Pitt. who seem to be the best at acquiring talent and building from within with Art Rooney in Pitt. one of the best along with Ozzie's boys in Baltimore making their Assistants, Head of Scouts and Player Personnel people folks to interview.

Make no mistake even if a Nat Moore took the job it would be with a revamped group that would include some of the people I just mentioned given Moore has never run talent evaluation and like Elway in Denver would be tasked with amking everybody accountable. Structure from a VP post to G.M. to Scout Dept.

I want a younger more emotionally invested Coach, why not I grew up on Shula and JJ when not following Madden! I would interview Kevin Sumlin ( a fiery whip cracker former LB who would if anything have this team flying on Sunday)

David Shaw (even after the vanilla Rose Bowl play calling which I believe a By-Product of putting the game on his OL rather than on QB Hogan) Shaw in my book will be a very good NFL H.C. at some point who doesn't seem to get flustered when the sliding gets difficult.

Then my surprise interview, drum roll!!!

Josh McDaniels (yes that McDaniels!)

I feel he needed (given ego) to have his NFL Baby nuts handed to him and did in Denver, he wont be so quick off the mouth next time.

He has alot of fire but most importantly this is the one Pats Coach who does scheme and call his plays and adjust on the fly. Cannot be trusted to have personnel control but when fed the team can Coach them up!

you think typing on a comment board makes you a blogger, hahaha, yeah, the rest of us are dumb.

Don't count Alabama out just yet. Far from over. Darn Nick Saban.

Posted by: Daniel in Pasadena | January 02, 2014 at 10:55 PM

I know Daniel, I was just trying to prove a point on Ireland drafting solely based on measurables. You can't measure the size of someone's heart.

f course I wouldn't try to make a living by drafting players who play over their heads either. You gotta have some flexibility and go with the high percentages imo.

Yep the tide is starting to roll, bummer. Maybe the Sooners can answer.

The LT for Alabama looks good out there. He may be our LT/RT next year.

Outside of that sack were the speed rusher got the corner on him has been a wall out there, given the talent faced in the SEC better battle tested than Cam Irving. I like Cyrus Kaoundijio and he's be my pick if there at 19.

Long was a parcells guy. Incognito has never been anything but a bust and a troublemaker. He just played himself out of the league for his bullying ways. Pouncey is too busy fighting for an accused murderer instead of concentrating on his craft. Dont give me he made the probowl. that game and honor is a farce and a glorified popularity contest. Any guy who helps give up a record amount of sacks has no right to be an all star. Jerry is to busy looking for the next bakery. J Martin may have been a philbin type but Ireland still drafted him with final say.

The line sucked after 2012 and the team knew long was leaving. Ireland still ignored the position and for that he destroyed our chance at the playoffs. Oh i forgot that Ireland was given a second chance to improve the line but a second round pick and 9 million was to much to get Albert in here.

What do we do when Martin fails. Trade a draft pick to get Bryant I love strip joints McKinnie to save the day. I had more faith in him saving a local bakery from going bankrupt

hey guys hows it going?? I'm blogging right now as I speak, I'm blogging on a news web page comment board.

These bloggers can't be over 17, such short sighted and idiotic posts.

Ireland and Philbin and his staff need to be given contract extensions to continue this success of this team. 7-9 to 8-8 tremendous job!!! FinsUp!

He won 11 games in 2008.

Posted by: Orlando Dolphan | January 02, 2014 at 10:48 PM

Under parcells, Ireland helped win 11 games. One his own hes won 7, 6, 7, 7 and 8. No winning seasons or playoffs. Hes had 5 years on his own to get this team to the playoffs and hes only failed in his goal.

I type comments on a COMMENT board and pretend i'm a blogger,

Says the guy whos name is da troof attacking my spelling you must be Tvegas girl friend or something...But your right spelled bum wit a b dosent pull any hair off my back aint ome here to win a spellin contest came to talk Dolphins...The truth since spellin correct is such a major priority on this blog

Trinta = a real life pretend blogger

I travel through the Carribean frequently. Why are the majority of whores on every island from the Dominican Republic? Next most are from Columbia.

Cid are you a pretend blogger too??

Sorry about that da troof wasnt your post I think its the bills fan trying to disguise his name Coward I thought you went to sleep fruit cake

The Indecision, the Indecision, oh what a show.

Irescum drafted Philip Merling and Jonathan Martin

Posted by: JJ | January 02, 2014 at 10:57 PM

Yes, Correct. One slapped a #O the other was the H°.

Ireland took that High Character Speech serious when Philbin was talking about being Head Coach.

This is ridiculous! This guy owns a football team and he can't make a decision? If Philbin wants to keep Sherman, then let him keep him. ON A DIFFERENT TEAM! GET RID OF BOTH THOSE CHUKLEHEADS! Why would you want to keep things the same? You only going to get the same result next year.

Eric Mangini is the new GM.

Actually first nigh bloging usually just read and go on about my buisness I dnt sit and blog all day I like doing things lik f***ing women smokin trees and working so if that makes me a pretend blogger then yes i am a pretend blogger wouldnt want to be a regular blogger means I have no life and need to talk to strangers to havr a good time

Cid is OK. Ill vouch for him.

Oscar take a Xanax . They work...

I hear ya

Thanks Fins united at least im not hated by everyone on this thing all this because I did not agree with a bills opinion thought we where living in America then again Buffalo is real clost to Canada

I know it has been a long time since I've posted, but I am really sick and tired of this Ireland/Philbin crap. Ireland Sucks and Philbin is a mediocre coach (that is being kind).

I believe Ireland should be fired. A new GM should be hired, and he should be allowed to select his own coach.

That being said, I think the Fins should consider Stoops as their next head coach. I am not sure if Stoops is interested in the NFL, but if he is now would be a good time to make the move. Stoops is a quality coach who could bring some stability to the franchise. Yes I know College coaches are hit or miss, but Stoops is at least used to being a head coach (something Joe Philbin has no business being).

So I am all for the Phins going after Stoops. He is a quality candidate and a quality coach and not a jack ass like Nick Saban.

The results of the Jonathan Martin investigation are expected to be revealed next week so we'll see what involvement Philbin and Ireland had if any.

Yes, the DR has the most Business Women per Capita in the West Indies.

It could mean they are more in demand. You pay for quality.

Columbia also has some beautiful hard working women.

You also have some of the best doctors in the world in those countries. Sammy Sosa is now White.

I would say Brazil is a close third, but you don't know in Brazil if it's a He or a She. (Probably the Definition of Dashi in Brazil) But when in doubt just put it in their bunda.

Drew, I see you are at Joke #5 of the Dashi Insult Guide. I will leave you to yourself to Slip and Slide Stroke and Strike your Keyboard for the night.

Ill be happy with the 50 Oklahoma is going to put on Saban. You know this loss is going to eat at him this Off-season.

We should've drafted E.Lacy. He was our gift for him taking R..Brown. Saban still owes us a FS for J.Allen.

Ben Tate is an interesting FA. Let's see.

This kid Derrick Henry could be the best Alabama rb of them all. Power and Speed. What a beast!

Ross cant make a decision. TOO FUNNY!!

Just as a side argument. Those that are giving majority blame to the OL for Tannehill's issues should also be giving the same blame for the lack of holes for our RB's to run through.

So Ross flies in with his NY buddy and stays at HIS headquarters for 7 hrs. and flies off. So? What does that mean? According to some of the morons on this blog, it means that Ross did nothing today and it's the end of the world for all Dolphins' fans. Just how does a moron arrive at that conclusion? Just wondering which moron was the proverbial "fly on the wall" today and knows nothing is going to result from this visit?!

Defenders just "stack the box" to stop our run, knowing that TannePuke wont beat em passing. A better QB would open up the run game.

The Wildcat was the brainchild of Sparano's QB coach David Lee, NOT Ireland's "gimmick" play. Ireland is a GM, not an ×'s and o's guy. Sheeeeesh!

Haven't read past page one, so if this has been theorized, my apologies.
My theory is Ross is stalling. This is a repeat of Harbaugh-gate.
I believe Ross is waiting for an answer from his new GM designate, and also new OC.
I'd think he's going after Chudzinski, or (perhaps a smarter choice Gary Kubiak…who would then take over as HC once Philbin is fired id season after a 3-4 start, including a loss to the Jets.
Kubiak won't sabotage, as even if he did, by sheer chance he'd still call a better game than Sherman.

What an ending to Ok/Bama game. McCarron strip sack td.

OK 45 Bama 31

Saban ends season on 2 game losing streak.

Posted by: IMAWriter | January 03, 2014 at 12:20 AM

Huh.... when has Ross ever been clever? My money says NOBODY is getting fired. Not even Sherman.
