Source: Dawson also impressive in interview

The Dolphins are pleased with their general manager search so far because 1. They believe they are identifying quality candidates and 2. Several candidates have so far been very good to exceptional in their interviews, according to various sources.

Include Lake Dawson as one of those impressive interviews.

Like Ray Farmer, which sources said over the weekend was the most impressive interview so far after his meeting with the team Saturday, Dawson similarly left a great impression following his interview on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the process.

Dawson is the Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel.

So for the time being, it seems Farmer and Dawson lead the pack of five candidates that have interviewed.

This is a constantly evolving dynamic. I am not saying either of these men will be the guy. I am saying both have put themselves in a good position compared to others who have already interviewed. I am giving you as close to a blow-by-blow account of what's happening as possible. This is not the final score, however.

(Reports that tried to piggyback off my Farmer report made a leap, wrongly suggesting I said the Dolphins had found their guy or the process was basically done. The process continues.)

Interestingly, this process puts to the test a habit of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross that I have heard from multiple people he simply cannot shake. Ross often seems to agree with, or fall in love with the latest person he speaks with.

"He'll talk to someone and think that person is great and five minutes later he'll talk to someone else and now that new person is great and he forgets the previous guy," one source said. "He does it all the time."

If that's the case, the candidates that have yet to interview might have unknowingly worked themselves into a great spot.

One of the interviews the Dolphins are trying to nail down, by the way, is for Atlanta director of player personnel Lionel Vital. I am told Vital comes with a strong recommendation that glows in neon: Bill Belichick.

Vital, it must be noted, is also being courted by Tampa Bay and is considered a very strong candidate.

To me, the Belichick recommendation is a two-edged sword. Yes, Belichick knows football and good football men. But it should not escape anyone that his interest is beating the Dolphins as he's done with regularity most of the past dozen or so years.

Also, Belichick can miss. I remind you of his recommendations of Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel for head coaching jobs.

Finally, the Dolphins today are interviewing Green Bay's Ben McAdoo for the vacant offensive coordinator job. McAdoo, who worked for several years with head coach Joe Philbin in Green Bay, is considered the favorite to land this job.

McAdoo has been Green Bay's tight ends and, lately, the quarterback coach but has never called plays. McAdoo recently interviewed with the New York Giants for their open OC job.

Orlando, if we ended up with Albert and the Tarheel tag team of Ebron and Hurst, I for one would be pleased ... I sign off.

Deity, zing!!!

Cam Cameron, LOL. I don't think the Dolphins want anything to do with Cam Cameron. That guy was a disaster when he was here.

I think there are two things everyone can agree on. First, NO MANGINI in any role. Not because he was with the Jets, but due to the glaring fact his personnel accumen given where he has worked when in charge is awful. Like Midas in reverse...everything he touches turns to sheetz. Secondly, if Ross brings any more candidates in, he could sign them all and make them GMs for only on particular position. Think of it, a GM for the oline, a GM for the dline, one for LBs, DBs, special teams. Each in turn could hire up a scouting department and develop specific position draft boards and free agent targets. The joy!

The best GM candidates in order are Brian Xanders, Tom Gamble, Jason Licht, Ray Farmer.

Amazing they haven't called you for advice and insight since you obviously have the credentials to rank tem in order.

Good question John @ 1:35, good question.

Posted by: a little perspective | January 14, 2014 at 01:37 PM

Just like I told you when you signed in using your other name. See my post to you at 1:36.

Now I ask you, why didn't you ask my reasons for choosing Gamble over the other oc's? Hmmmm? Curious right? Because I have tons of reasons but that's past now.

Instead you assume people are throwing darts at a dart board because it suits your agenda which is to put people down for their opinions while offering no opinion of your own. Please stop talking to me you aren't worth my time and I will be ignoring you from now on.

Also it has been said and acknowledged/confirmed time and time and time again, that Ross has a right hand man that is his advisor on football related matters and hires. Do you remember his name or does that just "sound good" too. Hint Hint, it starts with a CAR and ends with a SON.

A little jealous of the mighty, dynamic dynasty called the Patriots aren't many of you?
Good! Deal with it and accept it!
You better figure out first how to beat the mighty Buffalo Bills with Thad Lewis who whupped ya'll twice his year. Man that was beyond hilarious!
ROFLMAO

I have my reasons and there are far more than what I posted. I did research, I made a choice in my head.

Mark

Leafs do suck( I am an avs fan -nordiques as a kid). Dion is a super douche as ran into him a few time when he played for Calgary.

However I agree with you that Philbin/Coyle are a bigger issue regardless of who the eventual GM is. Philbin doesn’t seem to be a leader/motivator or a particularly strong X and O’s guys either. Honestly can’t think of what he actually brings to the table?

Notice that the 4 teams left in the playoffs all have great QB's.

Posted by: Dz NUTS | January 14, 2014 at 01:33 PM

Are you serious bro? Cam Cameron? Do you even WATCH the Miami Dolphins? What makes you think we'd bring in the worst HC in Dolphins HISTORY? He was an embarrassment! A total fraud! And you think anyone here would be willing to bring him back for more punishment?

Ditto Norv. Been there. Done that. He's now a decade removed, older, less willing to adjust to the game. See Cleveland. Yeah, they're picking Top 10 for a reason. Guy was fired from San Diego. See Rivers. Yeah, Top 5 QB again. Said the offense is now more open for him to audible out of bad plays. Norv's offense was very constricting. Not to mention Norv doesn't run a WCO and isn't the type of person to adjust to any HC.

So, other than Kubiak, you're way off the mark.

I agree with dolfnman, Belichek is a fraud, riding brady's coattails completely. Defensive genius? Defense ranked 26th in the NFL with a run defense worse than ours and he picked all the players on that side of the ball and his own DC.

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | January 14, 2014 at 01:31 PM

More blog stupidity. Bellichek's D basically shut down the Colts last week who went apesh*t on the Chiefs the week before.

26th in Defense without Wilfork, Mayo & Tommy Kelly. Lost Vreen for a large chunk this year, Amendola, Gronk, Thompkins, rookies in the secondary etc...and they are still in the title game.

Just because you're a phin fan doesn't mean you have to show your abject & biased stupidity. You are allowed to give Credit where it's due.

HE IS A GREAT COACH. In their Superbowl wins, the magical brady, you yank your knob to, scored a whopping 18 pts per game. It was Defense, led by Bellichek, who won titles.

Even in their losses, it was their Defense who had them in games because the vaunted Brady offense did diddly.

Jimmy Carson?!??!!?

some of us do use our brains before giving our opinions.

I never said you don't.

No reason to get so damn defensive, dude. I'm only pointing out that nobody here is qualified to ACTUALLY rank these people or has any clue how they will actually perform.

You know damn well that's the truth (well, at least I HOPE you do). Saying it isn't meant as an 'attack' on anybody and I'm certainly not the only one here saying it judging by the posts I'm seeing.

@ 1:41, u should probably learn to spell Wilfork...

Hi 78.

I agree, tehy had a good defens ein 2005 or 2006, when you were in your prime and times were good. It's 2013, WOOOLLLFFOOOORKKKK

Any time Phins78 Logs on the board takes a BIG DUMP.

Posted by: u tool | January 14, 2014 at 01:42 PM

They also lost Welker and Hernandez from last year. Amazing performance this year.

This is a bad football team folks.

He aint heavy, he's my brother baby! Yeah!!!

Hey WOOOOLFORK, Dolphins limited the Colts to fewer points than the Pats in their own building, and our defense sucks!!!

Phins78, this is the only name I use. I was on here yesterday with it talking to YOU among others!

So there's another guy on here saying much the same thing? Well, that's not surprising. I think a LOT of people are actually willing to admit the obvious: That they really do NOT know how good or bad these guys are or how they will do. If you think you do you are wrong. It's that simple.

The contracts they sign have always confused me Mark. Hey , the Isles signed Dipietro to a 15 year contract and we only had him for less than half and he's still getting paid so we're in the same boat I guess.

I have a problem with Toronto because of your reporters. I actually really have an axe to grind with Toronto.

When Tavares was being looked at and even after he was drafted by the Isles your sporting community spent months bashing the Isles and saying Tavares would never sign with us. That we didn't deserve him. That he would die on Long Island and never reach his potential. The attacks were constant and vicious. This coming from a town who's team hasn't done anything since the 60's talking about the Isles who won 4 cups in a row in the 80s. I couldn't believe how unprofessional the whole thing was.

And now I hate the Leafs and IT'S NOT EVEN THEIR FAULT! LOL

Looks like the Patsies fans are back in from last night.. GREAT! dBags.

um,stupid homers
the pats are in their 50th afc champ game
wow u homers r dumb
.
lol

YOU EVER TIRE OF BEING A COMPLETE F$#@ING IDIOT?

Agreed on Patriots. Seem to get it done no matter who plays and this season was particularily impressive

Defense seems to play well when the offense is off.

the cliche "they find ways to win"

Posted by: Phins78 | January 14, 2014 at 01:49 PM

uuhhhh, that's just like, your opinion, man.

I give the Pats a ton of credit. Wish we were half as good as them.

Everyone credits Brady & discredits Beli. That is incredibly naïve & IMHO stupid.

Brady didn't opt to go to 2 TE's & take the league by storm.

When that fell apart to injury & crime, Brady didn't decide to not sign Welker & move to a run heavy team who did just enough passing to win.

Brady didn't even throw a TD to beat the Colts last week, instead it was all pounding on the ground.

Give credit where it's due. The pats would be nowhere without Beli. Good stat earlier about Pats pts. scored in their SB wins. If true, it really takes the wind out of the pro brady/anti beli crowd. Especially in the big games.

The dolphin decade of doom started on July 12, 2003 when Ricky Williams announced he was retiring, everything else with exception of the 2008 season has been a complete disaster.

P78, u don't deserve Tavares, I agree.

Toronto boy, Portuguese descent like yours truly and Matt DeCosta of the Ravens... he should be in blue and white! God with the way the leafs are supported, the fans deserve something...

And don't worry about teh Toronto media, they do more to ruin the leafs than you can ever imagine....so much unecessary pressure and duress on the people running the team.

opps sorry July 12, 2004.

Eventho Phins78 has personally attacked me in the past, he is correct. The team needs a Czar.

Why? 1) Ross has set the new structure, 3 separate dept. heads reporting to him. 2) Ross spends the majority of his time in NY 3)Ross is not a football guy.

Put it all together and you have a mess.

It is ludicrous to have a team named after a leaf. It is like naming a team "shoe" or "cooking oil."

P78, I was kidding in my last post but come on, Charles Wang is an idiot of the highest degree. Anyone who mandates that his starting goalie have in his contract that he also has to be his son't goalie coach is a special kind of stupid.

This dish tastes just as good reheated...........

the Patsies? Why are you dumbfukks slobbing all over the Patsies nob? What a joke. Never in my life have I seen an organization get so much help and cover over everything. Known cheaters but they keep winning so, its okay. How many rule changes where put in place because of Tom Brady? HERNANDEZ. Not only did they cover for him but the authorities (or NFL) covered for them, leaking information to help them save face and wash their hands clean of it! I watched THREE games this year alone with my OWN eyes where officiating, BAD officiating helped win them the games. But Armando will write a crappy story about Hernandez and twist how chytty the Dolphins are because he got subpoena since he was his room mate in college and friend. Unreal.
Posted by: deity | January 13, 2014 at 11:37 PM

Never seen so many "Dolphins fans" so eager to take a cheek full of Patsies dong......

Yeah Absurd, i don't get it either....

Should've stuck with their original name... the Toronto St. pats... makes more sense, hahaa

Bleachers Report had an article yesterday stating that Philbin could not fire Sherman and was willing to lose his job because of it and it was Sherman that advised him otherwise. That being said, McAdoo IMO is not a good hire. If play calling get as bad as it did last year, can Philbin address it? Also, still no QB or OL coaches being lined up.

I disagree with the people that's calling Bill Belichick a fraud. New England's defense only ranks low every year because they spend a lot of time in prevent defenses due to the large leads they normally have. You will also notice that every time the playoffs get close or during the playoffs their defense is ALWAYS real good. So yes Tom Brady is a huge help to their defense, but Bill Belichick is still one of the greatest head coaches of all time. You can't discount them winning 11 division championships & 5 conference championships in 13 seasons. He is a first ballot hall of fame-r without doubt & he is one of the very best head coaches of all time.

hAHAHA I guess you're a little bitter too Mark. Well happy to say he loves NY, he is top 3 in scoring in the league, he's looking forward to the move to Brooklyn (no,sleep, till Brooklyn!), he has Thomas Vanek on his wing and they are ripping it up, AND they have won 7 road games in a row could tie a record set by the 83 isles tonight. And they're making a nice push to take a spot in the playoffs.

Tavares is the man!!!!!

North Carolina is known for their furniture making. I propose the Panthers change their name to Carolina Chairs.

I agree deity, I don't have to credit the pats for anything, they can fukk off, fukkin dipshitzzz

lol

FU P78!

Free Tavares!!! Send him back home!!

I have never attacked anyone without provocation. You can go pull up said "attack". I don't believe it. I would like to see it so I can point out where you started it.

Once again, I never attack or insult without first being insulted. I stand up for myself and I'll never apologize for that.

I'm posting this again so you guys can enjoy my wisdom:

nothing I say ever comes to fruition but I'm part of this cool blog. I'm special because I spend all day reading and studying football without being compensated for it because only special people can do it.

Actually, only Idiots with no life or intelligence would spend that much time on something so meaningless. Unless they were getting paid. Then it would be getting paid for fun.

If your not getting paid, you just look pathetic

"Minnesota Wild" takes the cake as dumbest name...even worse than "Ducks."

Although, "Utah Jazz" comes close. Yes, I know the New Orleans roots but when has ANYBODY associated Salt Lake City with boozy, smoky nightclubs with Miles Davis on stage?

78 when is your next husband beaters meeting?
lol

Haven't been around too much lately been a bit busy with work. I can't really say who the best GM candidate will be. So I'm just taking a wait and see attitude.

Glad there are a few people on board for Ebron. I will be interested to see his combine. I'm afraid he might be gone by 19 though.

It will definitely be an interesting draft and free agency coming up.

that's it

agreed. stats are for losers. and go figure, look at the person using them

ps...deity = clueless homer extrodinaire

I know what I say stings, but don't shoot the messenger, your hurt and emptiness will never recover unless you get help, remember the first step is admitting your helplessness

Absurd, add LA Lakers to the list

Im a Fins fan through and through but to say Belichek is riding Bradys coat tails isnt the brightest. Yes he has won many games bc of Brady, more than he would have without him. But the job he does year in and year out with the guys he brings in, not to mention the way his defense is playing without 3 key starters is amazing. I mean if Philbin had a TB sitting on the sidelines and his veteran QB gets hurt, then as soon as the veteran gets well the job is his again. Much like he defended Sheramn, almost quiting.

The Broncos are going to DISMANTLE the Patsies next week. And I can't stand the Broncos either. John Elway can eat my arse with a spoon!
