Source: Dawson also impressive in interview

The Dolphins are pleased with their general manager search so far because 1. They believe they are identifying quality candidates and 2. Several candidates have so far been very good to exceptional in their interviews, according to various sources.

Include Lake Dawson as one of those impressive interviews.

Like Ray Farmer, which sources said over the weekend was the most impressive interview so far after his meeting with the team Saturday, Dawson similarly left a great impression following his interview on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the process.

Dawson is the Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel.

So for the time being, it seems Farmer and Dawson lead the pack of five candidates that have interviewed.

This is a constantly evolving dynamic. I am not saying either of these men will be the guy. I am saying both have put themselves in a good position compared to others who have already interviewed. I am giving you as close to a blow-by-blow account of what's happening as possible. This is not the final score, however.

(Reports that tried to piggyback off my Farmer report made a leap, wrongly suggesting I said the Dolphins had found their guy or the process was basically done. The process continues.)

Interestingly, this process puts to the test a habit of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross that I have heard from multiple people he simply cannot shake. Ross often seems to agree with, or fall in love with the latest person he speaks with.

"He'll talk to someone and think that person is great and five minutes later he'll talk to someone else and now that new person is great and he forgets the previous guy," one source said. "He does it all the time."

If that's the case, the candidates that have yet to interview might have unknowingly worked themselves into a great spot.

One of the interviews the Dolphins are trying to nail down, by the way, is for Atlanta director of player personnel Lionel Vital. I am told Vital comes with a strong recommendation that glows in neon: Bill Belichick.

Vital, it must be noted, is also being courted by Tampa Bay and is considered a very strong candidate.

To me, the Belichick recommendation is a two-edged sword. Yes, Belichick knows football and good football men. But it should not escape anyone that his interest is beating the Dolphins as he's done with regularity most of the past dozen or so years.

Also, Belichick can miss. I remind you of his recommendations of Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel for head coaching jobs.

Finally, the Dolphins today are interviewing Green Bay's Ben McAdoo for the vacant offensive coordinator job. McAdoo, who worked for several years with head coach Joe Philbin in Green Bay, is considered the favorite to land this job.

McAdoo has been Green Bay's tight ends and, lately, the quarterback coach but has never called plays. McAdoo recently interviewed with the New York Giants for their open OC job.

At least Joe Philbin didn't throw Mike Sherman under the bus like Jeff Ireland did to Tony Sparano. Look Mike Sherman used to be a terrific coach with a great track record, until the last 5 or 6 years. Keep in mind that Sherman was Philbin's mentor & they go back together since Joe Philbin was in elementary school. Joe Philbin is still a young very good head coach with good faculty's in head, unlike Mike Sherman any longer. A good OC & GM could solve all our issues IF it works out correctly. All any of us can do is give it a chance for 1 year to see how things turn out this year.

Patterson should be gone for sure. Guy falls into the Long category. Good when he pays but, you dont pay a guy millions to not play a whole season.

Moore - might be if they can find a guy relatively cheap or if they feel Devlin is good enough to backup.

Wheeler should absolutely be gone. There's dead money on his contract but, no cap hit or gain. I say cut him anyway. Addition by subtraction.

Nobody really knows now what the result and recommendations of the Ted Wells report are going to be. For sure, Richie Incognito has played his last Game in the NFL. But, suspensions? How about on Jim Turner, even on Philbin. Fines? Probably on Ross

"He'll talk to someone and think that person is great and five minutes later he'll talk to someone else and now that new person is great and he forgets the previous guy," one source said. "He does it all the time."

I'm beginning to think this team needs a football czar just to protect itself from Ross. If he's falling in love with every candidate he sees, then it's obvious he's a newb who knows nothing about football to make an educated decision on whom to hire. At least Peterson knows football. I'd rather have him make the decision than Ross.

Ross can hire Tony Montana and his sidekick Manny as his OC and bring in Eliveria as his capologist. If things go south, Ross can bring in Sosa to clean it all up at the end. Sorry Mark. Your post was to good to pass up and has brought some levity to the real GM super market sweep game show going on in Davie.

Thanks for that

That's besides any law suits pending on Players, Coaches and the Dolphins organization. We must wait until after the SB.

Richie will still play in the NFL, just not with the Dolphins. Jonathen Martin might be the biggest cry baby in the history of NFL players... I have a feelig mommy and daddy had something to do with Matin going public with it

Sorry Mark. Meant to credit Rick.

Mark,
is that better?

@ Ray McDonald : Yes the Dolphins are better than Buffalo & the Jets, but not by as far as you think. Their is PARITY in the NFL & with better QB play Buffalo & maybe even the Jets are better than we are right now. Now I expected Miami to loose to Buffalo, but I didn't expect Ryan Tannehill & the entire team to lay a major egg in the Jets game. That said any team can have a bad game & keep in mind that the Jets played that game like it was their Super Bowl because they desperately wanted to save Rex Ryan's job. So all I can say is give it one more chance with a new OC & GM then if we miss the playoffs again, THEN it's a good time to do away with Joe Philbin & let the new GM take total control of the team.

You still don't realize that you losers have been shafted by abuse.

Oscar, when are we going shopping again? Four words: SHOE SALE AT MACY'S!!

Also, Yankee Candle has a lovely assortment of Winter Scents on clearance. "Maine Woodland Spice" is just heavenly!

I love our special time together. Text me!

Pick one:

Ross or Jerry Jones

Pick one:

Ross or Dan Snyder

Believe Us, it was the best way to try to fix this mess.

I'm convinced (or maybe resigned) that finding a very good/great franchise QB is mostly about luck, with a few exceptions--all teams passed on Brady 5 times, including the Pats (so obviously they had no idea how good he was)--all teams passed on Brees, Kaepernick and Wilson once or twice (including the teams that that drafted them)--most teams passed on Marino once....a number passed on Ben--and we can all name a bunch who were taken in the top 5 who sucked--luck is a huge factor, and probably the biggest.

I don't think the investigation will amount to much of anything. Probably a fine and limited suspension for Incognito...MAYBE Ireland gets fined a small amount...I doubt anyone currently attached to the franchise gets any kind of penalty since they seem to have been blindsided by the whole thing.

You going to jail, man, for bujarron(sodomy).

Did that TMZ link ever end up on ESPN? You know, the one where he had to strippers on him, while holding a handful of cash and a big smile on his face.Guess they dont want to point out the fact that they jumped the gun on Richie and JFart "Scandal"

Pick one:
Ross or Dan Snyder
Posted by: Marks organ in Tonto(the Indian)

Snyder any day.

"The Dolphins believe they are identifying quality candidates."

The same man who believed Chad Henne would be the next Dan Marino, Joe Philbin is a young Don Shula...and Ireland is a quality talent evaluator (note, he was fired for not being a team player, not his incompetence with acquiring talent).

Why if you're a Dolphins fan surely the man at the top of The Dolphins organization has to give you a confident feeling.

Ross' way of righting the ship is to be more involved with The Dolphins operations. Note that all three of the proposed elements will all answer to him. Yet he has no experience when it comes to making football related decisions. Certainly no track record of success.

Hiring good people and letting them do good work is how many businesses have become successful. I know that there's a delusional crowd here which likes to believe that every move is a good move, every player who leaves was a liability (Marshall, Bush, Dansby)...and that every new player acquisition is an upgrade (Ellerbe, Wheeler, Clabo). In reality Ross hasn't done a single thing right since he's taken possession of the team, and the number of things that he's done wrong numbers in the dozens.

From hiring Mike Dee and employing his failed "aggressive marketing strategies".

To sticking with Sparano after losses to The Browns, Lions and Bills at home in 2010.

To hiring Philbin and expecting him to work with Ireland, even though their offensive and defensive philosophies are polar opposites.

Ireland wanted the modern day Giants, pressure with your front four, win by pressuring the other team's QB, Philbin wants the modern day Packers, YAC, big offensive plays (soft, pushed around by The Bills, twice).

Phins are staring at 1-15 again.

I'll keep posting it, because a new era of futility is on the horizon. There are Ireland players on the field who don't fit Philbin's scheme (Odrick, Misi, Jones) and scouts and player personnel people in the organization who share Ireland's vision etc...

Ross talks about consistency, yet he's had in place and will continue to have in place people who share different philosophies. The whole organization should have been blown up after 2010 and the stench of Bill Parcells removed. This was not done, nor is Ross performing a similar action now. The tweaking and retooling that he's attempting to do now is reminiscent of what The Dolphins were attempting to do between 2004 and 2007 under Wannstedt/Spielman, Saban and Mueller/Cameron, all while the drafts in that time period were producing nothing.

This is how a franchise ends up 1-15.

Or with years of 4-12 football same as The Browns and The Raiders.

At least after his latest set of blunders maybe Ross will sell the team.

The Dolphins should really just fire everyone, start fresh with one philosophy, one vision and draft a quarterback in the first round again to open up the QB competition.

A new new new beginning.

Of course that would run contrary to last years season tickets propaganda sales pitch, "It's Our Time."

Phins go 5-11 next year.

Rick...I understand the call for keeping Philbin for one year. What concerns me isnt so much he just stands there on the side lines and show little emotion, ots other things like accepting index cards from Aponte in order to conduct pressers. He should have said thanks but no thanks. Just seems like he has a mayor complex, i.e., wants to please everyone there disappointing everybody

Maybe just Starbucks and some chit-chat?

Oscar,
I'm more butch than you kid, grow some nads and be proud of swimming on a door with a palm frond for a paddle to this great country America

Rick, Philbin will get his chance next year i just didnt see anything in him over the last couple of season. No adjustment, nothing new from game
to game, players dont seen particualry inspired by Philbin.

On top of that apparentley Philbin scared of Alpha Male leaders in locker room..idk i just wouldnt be surprised if we have another avg season and hes canned after the season..

LOL
I agree with your assessments. I really like Patterson and think he was a good pick up, i mean he almost averaged a pick each game he played. If he can either restructure to take less of a hit or avoid teh injury bug id prefer to keep him.
Matt Moore's cap hit is more than Tannehills next year so depending on how they feel about Devlin, I would think he would be gone if they need money outside of the 30million they have free

Never seen any Seminoles down there Marc? That is weird, I thought that was an entire tract of native land between Miami and Naples?

Marc, just use lube ok, be kind.

And I'd rather not have to put in in the butt of a horse or a native american male...thanks.

+++++++++++++

Ray, lol. It is like Philadelphia Onion Monorail for sure!

There's definitely going to be nineteen waffles happening!

"Born in Cuba, Made in America", Gustavo Perez.

phillis is weak, that's why he got rid of all the strong willed players. A good coach can motivate and inspire, all Phillis did was cower and perspire

Fukkk Casper Gomez and fukkk the Diaz brothers!!!

In any case, you're going to jail, man.

Never been with a horse but have enjoyed both women and men. It can be awesome with either.

Aye Mark I bury tho cockaroaches!!!

Not sure that's any better ...

and the politically correct term is native Americans.

Indians are from India - not Arizona.

Johnny Depp is a good actor

Women definitely have the better plumbing for straight up fuc*ing but another guy definitely has the edge on knowing exactly what feels great and how to time things. Man, it's just like a cafeteria. Hard to decide which is better so why not load your plate up with it all!

Slow time around here... time for that afternoon dump and some Candy Crush Saga.

Since we hear what sources are saying or speculating on regarding this team, here's my take on it.I'll speculate that Mr. Ross isn't as dumb as he seems. Dan Marino works with Bill Cower on a weekly bases. What if Marino has been an acting liaison between the two and an agreement had been secretly reached between Cower & Ross that will be announced after the last CBS NFL broadcast this coming weekend.Could it be true! This might explain why the OC search is on hold and no GM has been hired yet. That way Mr. Ross doesn't have to be the one to fire Philbin. His new GM could do it because as luck would have it, Cower is available .

Mark,
damn, your right again, how's this?

We call them "Indians" because our European forbearers were staggeringly stupid people who thought they had landed in India after crossing the Atlantic.

Mark,
what's Candy Crush Saga?

Mark,
u always leave me in the dark

Bill Cowher doesn't have even the slightest interest in returning to the sidelines.

If he did, he would have taken the Carolina job when it last opened up since he and his kids live there.

Cowher is done as a coach. He's got a much easier job now and makes a mint.

when is gamble coming in???

THIS entire process is nothing but a total waste of everyone's time even reading Mandys blogs.

It said >>>The Dolphins are pleased with their general manager search so far because 1. They believe they are identifying quality candidates and 2. Several candidates have so far been very good to exceptional in their interviews, according to various sources. <<<

Noy really? I mean REALLY???

Just WHO is qualified to identify who is deemed "QUALITY" VS Not quality?

Are the people making these statements " QUALIFIED TO KNOW OR ASK ANYONE IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED?????

Has this owner EVER made ANY good sound football management owner decisions? EVER???

Dont fall for the blog BS hype. I am NOT gpoing to sit and read these crap reports aboutan owner along with his team being qualified to even pick out the proper Bum paper to go in the bathrooms. They have a record that speaks for itself.

Case closed. See you after all the drooling is over.

it was the West Indies you brain dead Oscar, go back on your door to your 3 book Cuba

Since when did anyone here care what is PC?

There might be some Indian grounds in S Florida (That I haven't seen), but, there's none in Orlando, and I've traveled most of the states and was in the Army, and I can't say I've ever seen an Indian, native, savage...Whatever you want to call them. Actually, like most of Florida, Orlando has a TON of Indian names. I went to Hiawassee Elementary, I grew up near Anoka Blvd...Ocoee, Econlockhatchee, Apopka, Okeechobee, and on and on

And yet, I've NEVER seen an Indian

dusty,

I've been asking the whole day. Gamble is on a slow boat to China.

so basically nobody knows finfan?? get the guy here

LOL, you dimwit.

The confused idiots GAVE the name "West Indies" to those islands BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THEY WERE OFF THE COAST OF INDIA!

What? Did you think they were called that BEFORE they arrived??

Earth to Marks Organ: Get a clue!

Marc,
walk into any seven-eleven

Feather Indians, not dot Indians

Half of those are Pakistans anyway

hahaha

Look people I'm not guaranteeing that the dolphins are doing the right thing by retaining Joe Philbin, I'm only saying that the players showed a lot more emotion & seemed to play with a lot more urgency under Philbin (other than the last 2 games of the season where they might have just run out of gas). Stephen Ross feels Joe Philbin is a great head coach & I believe it too, although it will take a playoff birth this year to convince me of it. As far as reading Que cards; I think Joe Philbin only went that route to try & avoid more public outcry. So no matter what anybody thinks Ross is going to keep Philbin for at least one more year & all we can hope is that he is making the right decision & they get the right GM & OC to right the ship next year or we will be in the exact same place next year.

You are so wrong I don't even know where to begin.

yeah yeah rick, we all know philbin will be fired after season and never heard from again

That's debatable dusty & it's only your opinion.

I'm right about Thill and I'm right about indians, india, west indies? I was wrong who cares. Thill likes slurpies
