Administrative move: Incognito suspension lifted

The Dolphins today lifted their suspension of Richie Incognito but before the out-of-control and breathless media (including me, sometimes) get too crazy, let me give you some facts:

This lifting of the suspension, which is being reported on the NFL daily wire, is an administrative move agreed upon by all the parties as a necessary step for having Incognito go foward with the rest of his career.

It does not mean Incognito is on his way back to the Dolphins.

Indeed, Incognito will be an unrestricted free agent in March and will be able to play for whatever team signs him. But that team will not be the Miami Dolphins.

[Update: Incognito is obviously very happy. He's been tweeting with the hashtag #FreeIncognito for days. And he is indeed free.]

Not here to defend JM but IMO those texts reveal how hard he did try to fit in the locker culture at that time led by Cogs, or have you never heard of people cozing up to bullies before to be liked or stop getting harrassed?

Having said that JM did not acted maturely enough to handle the situation correctly, that on top of his mediocre play just exacerbated a situation in which he felt he had no shot to succeed. This is in fact a very complex matter that Mr. Wells has on hands. I assume he will look into what are certaintities first such as Cogs being kicked out of every single team since pop warner football.

I actually think these text revelations are somewhat of a dickish lawyer move, to be fair just like JM did early in Bullygate. IMO the most important finding about the investigation will not be about two individuals who were inarguably a detriment to the team but what was the role of the team's coaching staff. If there is any shred of truth about Philbin reacting to Ireland's choices then we really have to worry about the state of this team. I think hiring Philbin was an atrocious mistake that will haunt this franchise for at least one more year.

Interesting to see everything that is coming to light with the Cogs/Martin story. Its one many of us suspected all along. No one is going to apologize though its just business as usual for ESPN.

Although Mando didn't apologize he did rip into Martin pretty good, so I am happy with that.

Nemo,

Even though I don't like Skip Bayless, earlier today, on ESPN(First Take),he did say he has to apologize to Incognito...

Skip Bayless is another blowhard, know nothing, just like a blogger. Richard Sherman owned him, and he was spot on.

Remember Kippy Brown? Now the Seahawks WR Coach. Nice to see him riding in their championship parade today.

You think if the Heat can't win it all again this year - he will stick it out with an aging D Wade - and a crippled Chris Bosh? Maybe, but don't be surprised if it all ends this year.

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | February 05, 2014 at 01:54 PM

The money bet says he doesn't stay in Miami unless Riley makes a move on the player that brought it together, Wade! This is the move that has to have everybody in Miami thinking because like Marino before him Dwayne Wade has become the face of South FL. bringing home 3 Titles (which of course Danny couldn't) in pretty much unseating Marino as the face of South FL Sports. It bares remembering that Wade has a No-Trade clause and unless he opts out of his deal at Yrs. end (unlikely given nobody will offer 30 Mil per) is an Un-Trade-Able aged star who scrapped the cartilage in his knees and know can't play a week without the flair-ups!

The probem for the Heat and Riley is how to deal with Wade in order to free up his max-contract obligations and given the loyalty he's shown Riley (who had NO GUARANTEE in 2010 that he would even resign)Plus the larger than life figure he still cuts in Town (even with LeBron here still to this day) It's going to be interesting how Pat deals with what is coming next NBA Off-Season. A few things though, the Heat is a 1st Class Org. run by an Owner who (unlike his Dad before him) is committed to winning every Yr.!

Bosh isn't the problem here he's just been asked to take a back seat and has for 4 Yrs. now to the James/Wade high wire act. A 34% 3 point shooter now with great range from 20 Ft. It just doesn't flow threw him! The trick is and will be Wade (his GARGANTIC EGO and the money owed to him now engaged to Gabrielle Union with every intention of settling down here) The Heat's problem will be how thet deal with the loyal (percieved) Wade with that old adage of pushing former greats out the door with little to no heart.

TO, it's not that bad. My sister has been treated by the fine folks at Sunnybrook for five years now - I am thankful for them.

But our govt and tax system ... don't get me started.

Marc, that's brutal...

IMO, JM simply "USED" this situation for a "scapegoat". The "REAL" reason his childish exploits were blatantly obvious, which was the fact that he didn't handle "his demotion" back to right tackle with any class or dignity.

It was not the locker room atmosphere that peeved him most. It was the "demotion back to RT" that he handled so childish and immaturely. Just look at the timeline folks. Its blatantly obvious to see.

lebron is long gone and the ending will be ugly vs the pacers

Marc,

Definitely agree with you regarding Skip Bayless...

I was just surprised he apologized.

That Sherman v Bayless KO was awesome... and it's true, Sherman is better in every aspect of life than bayless ...

Mark,

I'm on the fence about Lebron going to Toronto. I get the Tim L angle and he always seems to get his man. But it doesn't change the fact the Raptors since they came into the league have always been a loser franchise. With the exception of the one year they made the playoffs with Vince, they've sucked! Stoudamire left. McGrady left. Carter left. Bosch left. First chance these guys had they left. Now you're. Going to tell me Carter was traded and didn't leave. He actually did. He quit on the team while he was there. Its a LOSER franchise...worse than the Leafs or Blue Jays.

I like the HC and I like the GM but I'm not convinced that Toronto is even a basketball city. I've been to a number of games there and the atmosphere sucks. I imagine it would be much like watching a Dolphins home game.

You really think he would go play for the Cavs again? I don't think that's likely. Possible, but he pretty much crapped on that franchise.

Posted by: Mark in Toronto | February 05, 2014 at 01:55 PM

If he opts out of Miami he's going Home to Cleveland before he goes anywere else! Anybody who lives in Miami that has heard him speak locally over the last few now he's said on occasion that he doesn't rule out the return home in order to win one for his Hometown crowd. If by some chance swayed elsewhere it will be to L.A. to replace Koby as the face of the most storied NBA Franchise in History. Not looking to downgrade on Toronto but your talking about were he is today and helped make a POWERHOUSE that already had history before him, completing what he started in Cleveland with a young Kyrie Irvin or heading West to the Lakers were LEGENDS are made with all do respect to the Knicks!

MarK. That dude has been pompous and obnoxious for YEARS! He acts all righteous when he's probably the same guy that will show up on "To catch a predator". Don't come on here and toss your morals around!

toronto? lol thats comical, no chance lebron even entertains that idea

The Beverly Hillbillies series starts when Jed Clampett, an impoverished mountaineer, discovers oil on his swamp land while hunting for dinner.

On the morning of 12 October 1978, Clampett claimed to have awoken from a drugged stupor to find Nancy Spungen dead on the bathroom floor of their room in the Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan, New York.

Fin4life,

I believe that it is well within Lebron James's best interests to remain in Miami. One simple reason: Pat Riley.

Riley's well accomplished for both coaching and building championship winners. If nothing else, he builds rosters that can perrenially compete for them(Knicks).

I mean, where else would Lebron go? LA? The LA ship most likely sailed with the passing of Dr. Jerry Buss. Buss' son so far has proven he's no Dr.

Cleveland? We all have to be kidding ourselves on this one. Like Joaquim Noah said, "When speaking of vacations, I never hear anyone say: I'm going to Cleveland."

So, IMO, the best "house money" says Lebron stays in Miami. Unless, of course, Pat Riley announces he's going into "immediate retirement". Or, out of the middle of nowhere, just suddenly drops dead.

Andre Williams, 0 receptions, lots of fumbles. As with Carlos Hyde, I was more impressed by the huge holes his OLine was opening.

A bit of topic but throwing this put on a snowy day in Canada.....

If there's any way you can get a first round pick for Cam Wake, I doubt that in a heartbeat. Love the guy but I believe his successors are there in Vernon and Jordan. Is Jordan ready to be the player that Wake is? No he isn't but he'll grow into the role. We'll be hurt short term but long term we'll be better for it.

Heck of a player to give up but we have needs on the OL, at RB, TE and safety. Having that extra pick would be nice.

Craig, atmostphere sucks? Toronto has a ridiculously high attendance for a franchise that's been so lost for so long.

Now the difference here? The franchise player is locked up for a long time. The franchise is also headed up by one of the best basketball men in the biz and a very respected young gm. The city was never the problem. it was the orgnization. And you watch what a strong playoff will do for the reputation of the raptors. It will quickly become a destination city for NBA players .. you watch.

dusty, check out team records since Dec 8, the date of teh Rudy Gay trade... you'll be surprised who's up near the top. come from a bad losing record to 3rd in the east...and is widely considered a top ten NBA team. Not so comical...

Long story made short, as long as Pat Riley is alive and still in Miami. The Heat should be considered slight to mid favorites to retain Lebron James' services.

Mark,

Not true. Before they started winning this year attendance was at all time low. They were pretty much giving tickets away. Deals could be had on Wag Jag etc....just to fill the stadium.

I'm not really a basketball guy but the games I was at theatmosphere sucked.

1-K.Benjamin WR
2-S.Henderson RT
3-C.Jones MLB
4-A.Williams RB

Dashi,

I've been thinking Benjamin might be the guy because there are 5 1st round OT's and possibly 6 OT's but the 5 will go before 19. The 6th is late 1st or second round and would be a reach. We'll see but Hickey says he's BPA all the way and that would leave Benjamin or even a guy like Evans at 19 being BPA. So that is not so far fetched that a WR could be had by Miami in the first. I would prefer Benjamin over Evans.

So if we could get Benjamin and Henderson in the 2nd, I'd be very happy.

No way anyone gives a first for Wake and if someone did, you take it. Wake was owned from the midpoint of the year on last year including twice by some dude named Nick Cannon - who was a backup on the pats?!?! He may have been injured but looked nowhere near being dominant...it's at least time you institue a three man rotation at DE.

The Heat go as far as Spoelstra takes them.

4 years and the Heat can't still run a consistent half-court offense. SHAME!!

Pacers have gotten better every year. They add new things every year.

The Heat have the Most Talented Team in The World!!

Yet, they play unmotivated most nights because of bad coaching.

Craig, look up NBA attendance this year...

I'll add this on Lebron and whether Riley can talk him into staying. Everytime the Heat enter the Post-Season whose the guy sitting next to Riley?? Alonzo Mourning! The same Zo who was a problem at every other NBA stop due to his BAD F'N ATTITUDE loves Riley and sticks with him as a sort of un-oficial Ambassador to the team. All this after Riley traded him in 04 to the Nets!

Everytime on the TNT Telecast they talk Heat how does Shaq refer to Riley?? As the "Great Pat Riley" He doesn't even show Phil whom he won more with that respect and before anybody says that's because Jackson traded him remember that Riley sent Shaq packing as well back to the Western Conf. Suns!

Same with Wade and his devotion to Riley whose really become a guru in his way of managing these egos while getting the Up-Most R-E-S-P-E-C-T from some of the games greatest players! We still haven't touched on his life long friendship/relationship with MAGIC! Or the fact N.Y. Bad boy Anthony Mason prefered to play for Riley after he bailed N.Y. ect.... If any F.O. EXEC can talk LeBron James into staying put it's the guy he works for today who is the reason the Heat are a 1st class Org., PERIOD!!!!! It's why the way Pat handles his fading star will be interesting?

Mark,

Did you REALLY think this team was a top ten team when they made the Gay trade? Everyone thought they were throwing in the cards on the season.

When they've done it over a prolonged period of time i'll call them a top ten team. 20-25 games isn't a long enough period. Until then I'll remain skeptical.

The Heat owns three championship trophies and has appeared in half the Finals over the past eight seasons.

They were a top franchise even BEFORE LeBron arrived and are now the most successful and dominant franchise in all of professional sports.

The Miami Heat looks DOWN on every other team. Every. Single. One.

Posted by: SAM I AM | February 05, 2014 at 03:10 PM

I just caught this my thinking as well although I posted @3:19 from a different angle.

Craig, they are 3rd in the east would be a lot closer to 2nd except for tehir horrible start... yes they are top 10. There are not 7 teams in the west better than them.

If we go back to 2005 to now, the Miami Heat have appeared in and won more NBA championships than the LA Lakers.

Since 2005, Lakers have appeared in 3 NBA championships winning 2(2-1). Heat 4 NBA championships winning 3(3-1).

So, Championship wise, the Miami Heat are the NBA's best, since 2005.

Mark,

I didn't say we'd be able to get a first, I said IF someone were to offer a first for him I'd make that move. Too many guys doing the same thing and I think you have to give the young guys room to grow.

Some of the other OT's I like in the draft besides Henderson are:

Ja'wuan James
Jack Mewhort
Kenarious Gates
Morgan Moses

Keep an eye on Martavis Bryant WR from Clemson at the combine.

To those who want a TE in the First.

Does that TE have the Potential of a V.Davis, K.Winslow, T.Gonzalez. You know Surefire All-Pro from Day One. (You only draft a TE in the First if they are exceptional)

AND THE DOLPHINS ONLY USE 1 TE!!

WE RUN A WCO WITH MORE SPREAD THAN POWER FORMATIONS!! 4-WIDE!!

NOW!!

Agreed, The Dolphins need a Huge target in the Red zone!!

A Huge WR that can catch a Fade or out jump people on a deep ball.

PHILBIN HAS SAID EACH WR IS A PART OF THE PUZZLE!! WE ARE MISSING THAT WR THAT CAN OUTJUMP EVERYONE!

K.Benjamin or Evans. That is what we need.

MarK. That dude has been pompous and obnoxious for YEARS! He acts all righteous when he's probably the same guy that will show up on "To catch a predator". Don't come on here and toss your morals around!

MarC you were way out of line on this for sure. Bill maybe an arse at times but on this he clearly stated it was his personal preference and opinion. On a football blog you have so much animosity that you wish a cancer survivor lose a battle to cancer? A survivor of 9-11 and first responder that has served and protected his community for years?
You are a former Army Sgt. Is this what they trained you?
I think you need help for your sexual deviations as well as your hatred of people you don't even know. Could this be why you cannot keep a GF or have any lasting relationships? I know you very well Mr. Shoaf.....and you know me! I wonder what your employer, Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, would say about your deviant behavior?
Think before you post child and treat others the way you want to be treated.

If we missed on those 2 Dashi I would be looking hard at Martavis Bryant.

Texas,

J.James is a good linemen.

And M.Bryant is another WR which I like for the Dolphins. Him and S.Watkins fixed a lot of mistakes for T.Boyd.

People think because some of us want K.Benjamin or Evans in the first that must mean we want the fins to draft a WR in the First. No, we just would like to add that big target T-Hill needs in the red zone or opposite Wallace to take double teams away.

Dashi,

I'd take either of the TEs that the Colts have. I believe Fleener was a first and Allen a second. Or one of the guys the Ravens have. Or Graham in New Orleans or a Fred Davis type. Or even Jermichael Finley when he was healthy.

Guy doesn't have to be a first rounder to be impactful. Haven't looked closely at the TE position in this draft yet but I'm sure there would be talent there in the second round too.

When they've done it over a prolonged period of time i'll call them a top ten team. 20-25 games isn't a long enough period. Until then I'll remain skeptical.

Everybody thought they were tossing the towel in that move! To talk about the Raptors Dec to Feb record is not getting the NBA Season which is a real marathon! I have the up-most respect for Canada beautiful Country with it's own Sports History in Hockey! Really outside the 92 Blue Jays when the Phillies should have never brought Wild Thing out of the pen! Plus worth noting that in the NBA alot of players have that very American sentiment given they face other NBA greats in the Olympics!

If anyone saw how Clemson dominated OSU for most of the bowl game. You wouldn't touch C.Hyde. I have never seen such a big guy fall so easy.

Very true Dashi, not to mention taking some of the heat off Oline and Thill in getting pressured and sacked so much.

Watch Gates OT from Georgia. I really think this guy could end up being a starting OG in his 1st year.

I'm anxious to see how our new GM works, the draft and FA.

Fin4life,

I'll look at the Raptors and where they are at the end of the season before I appoint them a top ten team. I agree, 'its a marathon'.

My gut feeling is if the Raptors make the playoffs, they will go out in the first round. This is a very young team, with very little playoff experience.

Your splitting hairs here! I saw the OBC and Clemson had the box-stacked! They dared Urban Meyer to beat them with Braxton Miller! I caught alot of Ohio St. Football this Yr. It seemed ESPN had them on every week and I was curious about the (supposed) over hyped Buckeyes. Hyde caught the ball, blocked his ARS off for his QB and ran hard between the Tackles in the Big-10 Conf. were they play Big-Boy Football in the trenches! He averaged over 7 per attempt on over 200 carries for over 1,500 Yds. His knock is his 40X but would grab him in 2nd myself!

Who cares about the garbage Dolphins anymore?

How I would rank the NBA East right now today:

1A. Indiana Pacers

Ever so slight over the Heat. Heat are proven champions, Pacers are not.

1B. Miami Heat: Could It Not Be So Obvious?

2. ????????????????

After 1A, 1B, Does it really matter? After the Pacers/Heat, let the futility began.

The NBA West's "8th seeded" team could possibly be as good as the NBA East's "3rd seeded" playoff team. At present, I would rank the Toronto Raptors no more than "full fledged playoff fodder" at very best.

After Heat/Pacers, the rest of the NBA East playoff seeds are to high hell's stinky garbage.

f4l, that was 93 with Mitch Williams. jays also won in 92 when we beat the braves ... good times... I was still a teenager, hahaa

Basically, if the NBA basketball gods were cruel enough to allow the Raptors in the the playoffs. Peel out your wallets because they get "SWEPTED" 4 games to none, no matter who they play.

I could very well be wrong, but, I highly doubt it.

Friends don't let friends buy Dolphin tickets.

HAHA. Mike? I assume you mean "Shane", a former colleague of mine. I'm sure he's well. Congratulations, it appears you found my LinkedIn profile. Way to go! Dirt? HAHA. I don't care

Isn't it cold in NY Mr. Gully?

Incognito belongs in jail with A Hernandez.

Full fledged playoff fodder??? Against who, the Chicago Bulls without Derrick Rose?? Please....

We need more bad boys on this soft team

I feel like I'm a blog version of a James Bond movie, several twists and turns...

Medal of Valor for Ground Zero 9-11...Sounds like Bill A and "TRUTH" are one and the same. Gregg Gully. A Food Service Worker! HAHAHAHAHA
