Ross: Wells report language, behavior "disturbing"

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is distrubed by the language and the behaviour outlined in the Ted Wells report released today.

Here is a statement from Ross on the matter:

Before you read it, understand Ross does not address the matters most on people's minds, which are whether OL coach Jim Turner will be fired, whether athletics trainer Kevin O'Neill will be fired, whether John Jerry will be re-signed based on the report's findings, whether center Mike Pouncey will be punished, and what is Jonathan Martin's status with the team going forward.

The statement:

“Today, I received the final report from NFL independent counsel Ted Wells and have now reviewed it.  I want to first thank Commissioner Roger Goodell for granting our request to have an independent review on this matter. I also want to thank Ted Wells and his team, who conducted a thorough, professional and objective review.

“I now have had a chance to read the report and obviously, the language that was used and the behavior as described is deeply disturbing. Although the report commended Joe Philbin’s commitment to promoting integrity and accountability throughout the Dolphins organization, I told Ted Wells personally during my visit with him that we are committed to addressing the issues outlined in this report. We must work together towards a culture of civility and mutual respect for one another. It is important to me, important to Coach Philbin and important to the entire Dolphins organization.

“We are committed to a positive workplace environment where everyone treats each other with respect. We have reviewed our Code of Conduct and workplace policies and are making enhancements to the areas of sports psychology, human resources and player engagement functions which serve as safe outlets for any player or employee.

“When these allegations first came to light, I wanted to know what happened so we could make our organization better. I also began a deliberative and comprehensive process of determining what I could do to elevate conduct in sports, regardless of the then-unknown conclusions of Ted Wells’ report.

“Three months ago, I announced the creation of a committee comprised of Coach Philbin, our CEO Tom Garfinkel, and respected former players and coaches, who would review Ted Wells’ report and our current Code of Conduct and make any further recommendations. Now that the report has been made available to us, the committee can move forward and begin discussions.

“After the situation came to light, I approached the New York University School of Law and the New York University Center for Sports and Society led by Arthur Miller, as well as the Jackie Robinson Foundation on ideas to address my concerns about conduct in sports. I wanted to tackle these challenging issues head on and be a driving force for change not only with the Dolphins, but in all levels of athletics. In working with their research team and lawyers, and with the cooperation of New York University Dean of Law and former White House associate counsel Trevor Morrison in particular, we have researched, debated and consulted dozens of experts and have created a series of initiatives that we will release next week, along with a policy paper examining this issue.

“We seek to create a curriculum which emphasizes accountability and which educates athletes on a standard code of conduct, appropriate use of language, and the elimination of disrespectful and unacceptable behavior in sports, including discrimination or harassment because of race, gender or sexual orientation.  We are also exploring possible legislation and a conduct pledge that would be instituted in all organized sports throughout the country to elevate the core value of respect.

“I have made it clear to everyone within our organization that this situation must never happen again. We are committed to address this issue forcefully and to take a leadership role in establishing a standard that will be a benchmark in all of sports.”

Cote is strictly minor league compared to Armando. Thats why Armando got the HOF vote not Cote.

Where are all of the Cog defender nitwits now?

Hiding LMAO!

Cog ain't the problem. He may have been out of line, but this organization is so frail and pathetic that it allowed it to happen. It is damning. Ross should sell the team and the new owner should clean house.

Anything else is just preserving the inevitable.

To: Look, Listen, Learn

Learn? From an idiot?

"FREE HERNANDEZ". Yes, The Wells Report confirms MIKE POUNCEY really is this stupid.

I no longer feel good about having him on our team. Keeping him is only savoring the remaining stench. Trade his ass for whatever we can get.

The Trifecta era has been nothing but one huge screw up after another anyway.

AsJoeRobbieCries - is too much of a gay buttonhole to show his regular name. Such wussies here.

Go suck on Armandy's left tit.

Incognito has been the problem on every team he's ever been on.

Parcells came to Miami to drop the biggest dump of his life..

Flush the whole damn thing down the toilet and start over.

Failbin Out!
The sooner the better.
Sad. But yet another reboot needed. All coaches must be replaced ASAP.

Jerry's fat lazy out of shape ass is finally gone for good too. Good Riddance!

Pouncey is an ignoramous.

The blog and bloggers are nothing but an endless bowel movement.

Hate to say it, but, Pouncey needs to be traded before the draft. Hopefully someone would still give a 1st rd pick for him.

We need him out of here and he needs a fresh new start.

The team and players are nothing but an endless bowel movement.

I'm flattered. Bloggers like my posts better than their own so they use my name.

Ands he wants to be a leader for all of sports?

Ross is so in over his head! Hey Steve, you bought an NFL team, not a parcel of land to develop.

Cogs/Jerry/Pouncey. 3/5ths of our oline. I would not put it past those 3, that they only played well when they "FELT LIKE" it.

Cogs may have intentionally missed help assignments to make Martin look bad playing LT. It's no wonder this was the worst oline in Dolphin history. Worse than even the "EXPANSION YEARS".

The team and players are nothing but an endless bowel movement.

Now I see why we had no "screen plays" in the playbook. Cogs/Jerry/Pouncey lazy asses did not want them.

Also see why we used no "qb sneaks". If you were a qb would you want to trust these 3, Cogs/Jerry/Pouncey?

Fins most pathetic and embarrassing franchise in all of sports history.

That report proves that this OL spent far too much time playing grab arse instead of being professional and focused on winning. I just don't get how you can make millions of $ and can act like a high school idiot! I still don't buy the coaches had no idea...

Pouncey's trade value took a HUGE hit with the Wells report. Just what I was afraid of.

Me to! I don't know if you read through the whole report but for me the Martin thing I can dismiss as juvenille pranks. The thing that I really found troubling was the thing about the trainer. You and I know the trainer is more than likey half the size of these guys aside from being in a very inferior position of any real power or authority and they had to know this. The thing with Player-A has me a bit mistified as to which player it is. After reading the report it states that Player-A has been the subject of abuse going back a couple of Seasons as well leading me to believe it's either Garner or Yeatman.

Read this the other day about Ross : "Owners should rarely be seen, and never heard."

Couldn't agree more.

It seems as though every time I come to The Herald there's a picture of the goofy smiling owner mingling with fans, or having his own press conference, or introducing minority owners or a new employee.

This whole team is Ross' clown show circus.

It's a business first, I get that, but for Ross this is just his way of entertaining himself.

The guy is embarrassing.

I root against him and his g a y logo team.

I'm very much looking forward to the losing era of football that is looing on the horizon.

Phins are first in the NFL when it comes to losing fans.

If Ross owns the team for the next five years (which will all likely be losing seasons).

I'm not sure The Dolphins staying in Miami would make economic sense.

Parcells wanted no part of Ross and his douchebaggery.

Used his exit visa a.s.a.p..

So

Do you now feel like you've wasted hundreds of hours of your life posting futile opinions about the lowly fins?

FIRE ROSS = ETF = LOAD SWALLOWER

Just when you think this team has hit rock bottom, it drops lower.

Yeah, I'm ETF, you got me.

Idiot.

The team and players are nothing but an endless bowel movement.

Yeah, I'm ETF, you got me.

Idiot.

You are nothing but blog diarrhea. Nobody thinks otherwise except Kris and Darkoak.

I can't imagine an NFL organization in a worse state than the Fins right now.

Ross will sell in a year or two. It will be a complete rebuild. We are looking at another 7 years before this team gets back to respectability, and only if the next owner makes the right calls.

Plan to spend another seven years whining about the team and about which bloggers are right or wrong. You are all wrong.

The fins should change their team name to the Miami Flush and change their team colors to brown and yellow. That will at least match the home town population.

No one's reading through 140pgs except for lawyers, press, and Dolphins organization. Anyone else would have far too much time on their hands. But, from what I understand, Martin was being referred to as "player A."

Still, the things happening to Martin can not be dismissed as "juvenile pranks" while continuing to look at the "whole". There was a "FULL BLOWN PATTERN" of DISTURBING BEHAVIOR exhibited by Pouncey/Cogs/Jerry. Even Turner with the blow up doll incident, and even his assistant.

This whole ordeal far exceeded the ranks of "simple juvenile behavior". Almost into the gray areas of "human rights violations itself. Nothing about this whatsoever is "simple juvenile" prank.

Unfortunately Ross will be the first NFL owner to sell at a loss, since Huizenga schnookered him big-time. Wish it were otherwise.
I say L. A. move to freebie stadium, granted by Goodell, within 5yrs,as team further unravels & fan support dwindles.

Laying waste to the lowly Phins in any form is hardly a waste of time. It strokes my ego to be right about the team, which I was in 2013, and I rather enjoy watching them lose. This past season was almost as enjoyable as 2008 or 1984.

Playing video games is a waste of time, watching t.v. is a waste of time (and unhealthy), facebook is a waste of time, so is twitter, texting about nonsense is a waste of time...even spending too much time with family can be a detriment and arrest a person's development.

When The Phins go 5-11 next year I won't be able to stop laughing.

Can't wait to see Ross' goofy behavior then.

Maybe he'll form another committee to get to the bottom of things.

He can insult the intelligence of the small number of fans who have intelligence enough to be insulted and drop the names of more former franchise greats so we'll really think that he's on top of things.

Scott Schwedes, Fuad Reviez, Tommy Vigorito, Eddie Earthquake Blake, Jackie Shipp and Paul Lankford can head up the bunch.

May as well add Alfred Kidnapped Oglsby to the list.

I hear 7'8 Manute Bol is available too.

Ross is so g o d a m n e d goofy and awkward none of these names would be a stretch.

5-11.

Enjoy delusional homers enjoy.

OK so let's say someone has four life-threatening cancers and three of them can be successfully removed without too many issues, but one is on the leg and that leg has to be completely removed.
Staying alive is more important than keeping the leg, so what will the Dolphins do with Mike Pouncey?

I'd like to see Jim "Crash" Jensen on the committee.

SAM YG

The organization is a travesty. Can any reasonable mind see this team going anywhere in the next few years?

So I ask, is this blog and its contributors (you, me, everyone) nothing but a sheer waste of time?

Shouldn't we be doing something with our lives instead of babbling ad nauseam about a lost cause team?

Troof,

You underestimate me, everyone here hates my posts.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Support Ross' g a y logo Phins and buy into Tannehope and you deserve to be disappointed.

8-8, no playoffs again.

Bills 19 Dolphins zippo

Jets 20 Dolphins 7

Aponte/Hickey/Philby.

It gets worse from here.

I'd bet money on it.

Claims made by the "Assistant trainer" and "Player A" backed up Martin's claims that Incognito was abusive.

"The Report finds that the assistant trainer repeatedly was the object of racial slurs and other racially derogatory language; that the other offensive lineman was subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching; and that Martin was taunted on a persistent basis with sexually explicit remarks about his sister and his mother and at times ridiculed with racial insults and other offensive comments," Ted Wells states in his summary of his independent investigation.

"You underestimate me, everyone here hates my posts."

I don't. Not that I agree with all you write but I read every one of your posts whereas I skip over at least half of the regular posters here.

Your moniker says it all. Ross is the problem.

Incognito admitted that "Player A" (believed to be practice player Andrew McDonald) got it "every day from everybody, high frequency. He was also touched by Incognito, Pouncey and Jerry in his rear end, while being taunted about his supposed homosexuality.

In the 144-page graphic report concludes that three Incognito, Pouncey and Jerry all engaged in a pattern of harassment directed at not only Jonathan Martin, but also another young Dolphins offensive lineman and an assistant trainer named Naohisa Inoue.

I think everybody needs to take a step back and calm down. M. Pouncey sticking up for a friend is not a bad thing. You may think and I may think A. Hernandez is guilty but M. Pouncey may believe his friend is not capable of these crimes, so I have no problem with him standing by his friend. As far as trading him why? L. Little played for the Rams and killed somebody while driving drunk (so did D. Stallworth ) they were given a second chance. B. Rothlesberger raped three women and the great stand up organization Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed him right back. I dont agree with either thing M. Pouncey did but he should get a second chance. As far as J. Philbin its to late to fire him this off season, who would you replace him with ?

The NFL should make Ross sell the team.

Blah, blah, blah...

Its a mens locker room, men who play a very demanding game, team sport were all members need to be on the same page,,,,,Martin was a very poor draft, thank you Ireland,,,,,

Why is Turner still employed, he needs to go, any coach who knew what was going on needs to go. On top of that he should be fired because his OL sucked anyway

We need more Eagle Scouts on this team yea yea that's it

News flash we are talking football players here not priests or monks these guys are hired assassins hello hello

Well at least we are assured a new offensive line from top to bottom that actually great news

Let's fix this mess we have the cap room and the picks we need

We need will Davis and the other young corner to step up big time

Can someone explain to me wich case is more alarming picking on a 6-6 330 lbs man or multiple murder charges , or more recently a serial rapist yup Darren sharper 8 woman have come forward and the nfl insists on making this the big story really now this is alarming

Goallllllllll

What a mess

what did you expect the findings to be from a PC lawyer, of a PC league, with a PC watchdog media watching? That they would tell Martin to grow a pair? Please! The findings were cemented the minute it was reported that a racial slur was used by a white guy towards a black guy. Plus it is dealing with societies newest poster child issue: bullying. This investigation was not about truth, it was about how to spin it with the best possible PC outcome, for mass consumption.

The NFL is big business and the business aspect is transcending the game. Where perception of the league is greater than the game itself or any of its players or coaches or owners or whatever. Protection against lawsuits and bad media coverage is driving the rule changes, the violence the players and fans love is being systematically made illegal, soon arm tackles will be the only thing legal anymore.

When the greatest LBer of all time Dick Butkus, would be probably the most fined athlete and considered a menace and most likely suspended for his actions on the field had he been playing today, you know something is wrong. So sad to see PC destroying this once beautifully violent game.

Where are going to find 5 rather large linemen who physically man-handle other rather large men, without some, according to media types, as blue language. Now these same media types wonder through the locker rooms of the NFL on a daily basis and never complain about "blue" language until NOW. Aint that special?

I find it hilarious when someone rants here regarding a supposed lack of education when it comes to Armando, where they call him out for spelling and grammatical errors yet their very own rant is also replete with spelling and grammatical mistakes. I nearly spit my coffee out of my left nostril when I read the rant from Look, Listen Learn, what a hoot. If you did that on purpose you are a comedic genius.

One thing everyone needs to realize is that the print media is a dinosaur that is fast on the way to extinction. Very few newspapers in today's world operate in the black. Therefore they must cut corners where they can in order to achieve much less maintain profitability.

One of the first to go in the dwindling newspaper business is the copy editor, so therefore every newspaper story will have the spell or grammar errors we see so often nowadays.

Showing intolerance for something so trivial rather reeks of sexual frustration or repression. I recommend to those of you who are so inclined to harp on every minor nit of this blog, go get laid!!
