Former UM QB Stephen Morris on the Dolphins radar

While much of their draft focus is rightly on offensive line, it should be noted the Dolphins have a long list of needs, wants and must haves. And while quarterback is neither a need nor a must have, it definitely is a want -- one which the team might fill with a local player.

The Dolphins had University of Miami quarterback Stephen Morris at their facility last week as one of the "locals" visits they're allowed. Coaches also had dinner with Morris the night before the visit. And it should be noted that general manager Dennis Hickey and coach Joe Philbin attended the University of Miami Pro Day where Morris showed his skills two weeks ago.

Morris, I'm told, has impressed several Dolphins people -- including general manager Dennis Hickey -- with his maturity, intelligence and overall approach.

So does this mean the team is going to draft Stephen Morris?

That is not certain. But it means Morris is on the radar and the Dolphins are doing their due diligence on him. And that's a good thing because the Dolphins are going to have to draft a QB soon enough or find one through free agency or some other means.

Well, Ryan Tannehill is the starter. There is no controversy or question about that.

And Matt Moore is well-liked and appreciated as the backup while Pat Devlin recently signed his exclusive rights tender to be the No. 3.

But Moore is in the final year of his contract and while his experience is valuable, paying $4 million per year or more for a backup quarterback isn't the most efficient use of salary cap space. Devlin, meanwhile, has been in the Dolphins program for three years and it seems he's no closer to challenging for the backup job than he was in 2011 when he arrived.

Indeed, it has not been a competition for the No. 2 job at all.

So the Dolphins can obviously be improved by adding a young, talented quarterback with a Pro caliber arm (like Morris or someone else) to push Devlin for the No. 3 job but also to make a strong push for the backup job as well after 2014.

Maybe Stephen Morris is that guy.

Anyway, check out some 2013 highlights:

Johnson has average about exactly 1500 YDs Rushing n Receiving every single year 2010,2011,2012 and 2013

Only idiot jealous Dolfans somehow think CJ@ is in decline for several yrs now

Cuz they can't read and don't watch football

only blog what they hoped happened or will happen like Tanny's tremendous upside and sudden realization how to throw a football

Our dolphins will destroy the jets

f4l, that would make him poor by NFL owner standards...

But if he's willing to keep the team in Buffalo... that's a game changer.

Ross won't even repair his decrepid stadium

Skin color unfortunately

Dude he is no way the same player he was he averaged 3.6 yards per carry and now he must share the backfield with Powell and ivory he does not scare me maybe he gets 10 touches a game

did not see where lloyd finaly signed my Viking friend
know on the 11th he was still in talks

WR Sidney Rice is still availble for the NY JETS

Not to be reundant, but I wrote in my last post that Aarron Murray (UGA) would be a great pick in the 4th rnd. This kid is a winner but got hurt in his senior year last year and that is the only reason his stock has dropped.

We signed a better back in Moreno

Steve Ross, worst owner ever?

really ross blowz? from the AP

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has offered to pay the entire tab for up to $400 million in stadium renovations.

Jets don't need to draft Clowney.
They don't NEED to draft anyone. They'll be going BPA for all 12 picks, in a draft this deep that is huge when Idzik/Ryan are doing the drafting.

I have no confidence in Hickey but I will give him enough credit that he will get a starter at $19.

Murray is a winner who never won anything at Georgia

#19 not $19

CJ2K on a knee that needed to be surgically repaired (and was in Jan 2014) earned 1500 YDs each and every season since his 2508 Yd season in 2009

CJ2K is expected to get between 12-17 touches a game
and that is fine w him at 28 yrs old

Not saying he is a great or even a good owner, but he isn't cheap....

Knowshawn Moreno played his high school ball a few towns away from us . Back then you just knew the kid was special

Moreno has had only good year w Manning last year

Decker even had 8 passing TDs w Tim Tebow

Decker is Reel

Moreno maybe breaking out
butt prob

What, you have butt problems?

Knowshawn Moreno played his high school ball a few towns away from us . Back then you just knew the kid was special

Home says, . . . . ."Short Bus?"

caught Mark , ... probing

I thought he was a selfish player in Tennessee and now I know why I never liked him he should fit right in with those thugs in green led by mike Vick

Anyone wanna bet that the player we covet the most goes at #18 and becomes a pro bowler.

Whoever we get at #19 will be a bust/career backup.

No doubt! Tim Robbie to this day has to be kicking himself for selling the Dolphins for 165 Million to Huzienga back in 93 before Tagliabue made the deal with FOX that forever changed the NFL. When adding the 200 Mil he he paid for JRS the purchase was for 365 Mil in 93 and sold off 15 Yrs. later for 1.1 Bil that doesn't happen without the TV deal that Tags put together with Rupert Murdoch which is what has made the League's golden Age on down to depreciation made possible by votes with the League more popular than ever due to over-TV-exposure!

Best possible division record for the 2014 Dolphins

0-2 against the Pats
1-1 against the JETS
1-1 against the Bills

that's 2-4 in the division and 3rd or 4thplace in the AFC east

checked w NostraHomeUs and he confirms

Ross is too cheap to pay good players. Then he wonders why his team stinks.

The only team that would draft a QB, make him the starter, then bench him for a 35 year old for a couple weeks until he gets injured is Miami. It's that kind of short-sighted bullshht that makes our players leave in FA.

Geno won 8 games last year on a team full of nobodies.

Now he has some weapons and QBs typically make a big jump from year 1 to 2, no?

Have faith my brother just believe

we have Hickey power

WR Sidney Rice would make a nice NY JET

same green color as Seattle

and the JETS have the ca$h

Gee that's who I would want to mentor my young qb. Hahahahhahahhahah woof woof

Man just empty the jails and put them in puke green

f4l, that would make him poor by NFL owner standards...

But if he's willing to keep the team in Buffalo... that's a game changer.

Why exactly?? Ross needed to go to the Banks himself to pony up the 1st 500 Mil he owed Huzienga having his 3.4 Bil tied up in hi Corp. holdings as well. The Rooney's aren't even worth 300 Mil (as in net worth) with the Banks owning a large chunk of the team. Not all Owners are Paul Allen, Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones and even in that group I'd bet outside Allen nobody has Billions liquid in the Bank.

3-4 Dolphin receivers cannot walk right
Keller,Gibson,Binns and Harline
Mathews a lil gimpy too

Thanks Tannehill

Tannehill is like captain America

That is true but there is a deeper meaning here for us in Miami in 2014:

The only leverage that Ross has to apply to the legislature is if he threatens to move the team. The only leverage for threatening to move the team is an empty stadium.

We all accept that ireland got fired because he didn't make playoffs. I think ireland got fired because he almost made playoffs.

Now that real estate is recovering Ross needs the depreciation to protect his real estate profits. He does not need a winner in Miami. He is already a winner in his own life, he doesn't even live here.

One last thing at 8 Bil. in net worth I'd suspect that Trump would be in the Top-5 of NFL Ownership.

Give it up reel the dude passed for 4000 yds 24 Tds

If Vick was signed for the Dolphins

Immediately he would be the best QB on the roster and the best to hok up long w Wallace

Despite being injured
Vick was rated higher than the Dolphins fake Franchise QB last season

Despite almost 600 pass attempts (588 lol) to make his total yardage numbers for ignorant homers to regurgitate

. . . TannePUKE as never passed for 4000 yards a season

Vick would be the 3rd best QB on this roster. Moore would be the best on the Jets.

Also Gronk, Dobson, Thompkins, and Ameondola can't walk right because of Brady.

Ross will move the team to either LA or London if those fail somewhere like South Carolina in a nice new stadium

Anyone wanna bet that the player we covet the most goes at #18 and becomes a pro bowler.
Whoever we get at #19 will be a bust/career backup.

SURE!! What's the bet?

Vick can beat up any of the Dolphins pussy boy white QBs

or beat up all 3 at once Tannefail, Moore and the undrafted FA Devlin

Hey jet fan tannehill passed for 3994 last year ya know what that's close enough

Than all of his moves make him look like a bumbling idiot because no one wants to coach/play/front office for this team.

However if Ross is really trying to field a loser because he knows it will be more profitable then his moves are genius.

Since he is already a multi-billionaire do you really think he is a bumbling idiot?

The only loser in my equation are the phans.

Vick can beat my meat

He is a dog killer he kills cute puppies

take away 1000 junk yards in garbage time for the career 15-17 Tannehill
and u get 2994 yards

take away the 100 extra pass attempts to pad the stats and u get 1800 yards passing for Tannehill

Reel numbers

? @ 4:59

If I win then you have to swallow.

If I lose then you can spit it out.

The jets are perennial loser just like their fans

If they're not targeting Clowney on a trade up wtheir 12 draft picks

Expect TE Ebron and WR Benjamin to also be JETS

Rex will be w the NY JETS for another decade

You are a sick sick dude you can't just make up your own rules Face it the dolphins are far better and a classier organization than the jets will ever be

Aj duhe remember that name loser boy

That's some real tuff talk I think your second personality of Jesse Ventura is kicking in. It coincides with your grand conspiracy theory.

Now that real estate is recovering Ross needs the depreciation to protect his real estate profits. He does not need a winner in Miami. He is already a winner in his own life, he doesn't even live here.

There is no denying your point and I suspect as much regarding your empty Stadium theory and have posted it over the last couple of Yrs myself. The hang up for Ross is the fact Miami is a 3 share TV market. We're actually in the Top half of the League in this regard which means a great deal when negotiating 1 Bil. a Yr. TV rights per Company. There are only two 1 share markets in the Country one being L.A. and the other N.Y. with only Dallas - Ft. Worth in a 2 share then a group of three share among them Miami.

So Goodell will NEVER aprove a move by us to L.A. no matter what Ross cries because he's still getting his share of the TV revenue and Miami gives the League leverage in their TV contracts. Take into account all the 5 share or 7 share markets the League has to sell the TV on like G.B. (7 share), Pitt. (7 share), Buff. (5 share) St Louis (6 share) probable to move back to L.A. along with the teams in Ohio with low market ect...

You see were this City is a need for the NFL even if the game itself has taken a back seat to the NBA locally.

How are the Dolphins classy?

Did u not see the dick carved on one of the player's heads during Training Camp

The dick head was on Hard Knocks for Christ Sake!

How are the Dolphins classy?

Did u not see Cognito's messages to Martin?

Did u not hear about Cognito running his golf club over and over on a woman's snatch?

Did u not hear about the weed and Mollies between Cognito, Pouncey and Martin stoned on his couch?

The Jets also have a much better record the last decade

so u r wrong on both counts

Clueless Dolfan , . . . once again

...So I am glad that the Phins have shown interest in a quarterback. I brought this up earlier today, the timing is ironic. Now, I doesn't matter which quarterback the Phins are interested as far as I am concerned. As long as the team feels the player is the right fit. So even if I think Morris is garbage, or Logan Thomas, or whoever. It doesn't matter. The idea is to draft a quarterback that we can groom into this system.

I am psyched to know the team is thinking about this position and options in case...
