Dolphins pick CB Walt Aikens in fourth round

The Dolphins secondary just got a little longer and lanky.

The team used its fourth round pick (125th overall) to select Liberty cornerback Walt Aikens, a 6-1 and 203 pounder that instantly becomes the biggest cornerback on the Miami roster.

Aikens had an interesting trip to Liberty. He originally committed to Illinois and played there but he was kicked out of school after he was charged, and pleaded guilty, to possession of stolen property.

"I bought a laptop from a teammates and it turned out to be stolen," Aikens said. "I got charged with possession of stolen property, which is a misdemeanor. The school was trying to make an example of football players at the time and they thought it was best if I left."

Aikens says he went to Liberty because he knew he would be able to not only compete but start at the lower level FCS program right away.

Now he has a similar feeling about his arrival in Miami.

"I took a visit a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with the coaches," Aikens said. "I want to be a starter. I want to come in and be a dominating factor. I want to be a dominant player."

The kid ok who hasn't bought stolen property before?

AIKEN STILL WON'T ACCEPT RESPOSIBILITY OR TELL

The truth.

Well he will be able to afford laptop from Best Buy now. Heck he can buy a Mac.

He's not starting anywhere.

This guy is behind

Grimes
Taylor
Flanagan
Davis
Wilson

I don't know about this kid but we'll see I guess.

not freaking out yet. we still have june 1st cuts!

Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
According to http://NFLDraftScout.com , Aikens is a value pick at 125. They projected him as a third-round talent.

He's a better tackler than a CB coverage-wise (except maybe for big rival TEs), maybe he's brought here to be developed as a SS, who knows.

And the guy has some possible character issues, although it's something I can understand when trying to pick up talent in the latter rounds.

I don't absolutely dislike Hickey's picks so far. He has certainly identified the team needs, but I would have choose different prospects in most picks (talent evaluation personnel inherited from Ireland and working under Hickey now could be improved if things don't pan out as expected AGAIN) and I definitely hate his trades so far.

I hope we go after Trey Millard (RB) and maybe a QB (McCarron?) in the 5th round.

If they were going to pick someone from the minor leagues, why not Laurent Duvernay- Tardiff who has as much physical talent as an OT drafted and more than our first round pick and will be a future left tackle given the right coaching?

Fail

I give this pick a D

We have 2 picks in the 5th round. Who's excited to see who we get?

I have all kinds of old laptops if he needs one.

I liked Tom Savage but oh well

i think he will be a SS

It's Finnegan....not Flannigan. And Aiken may make the TE cover guy they need and or free safety, as well as, eventually, CB.

The guy I was talking about earlier, Dakota Dozier, just got picked up by the Jets. He's going to be a pretty good guard I think...

Once in my leasure time, months ago, I was wandering in you tube and I found this guy, I like him, and with the now buffalo's recivers we need a guy like this.

I really really want Jamar Taylor to success, he deserves that, but in the times he is healty, he get burned very very bad, and Finnegan is in the decline of his carrer, so I feel we need a guy like this.

I like very much this pick

Sad but true fact.

Businesses benefit from customers that have to replenish stolen property.

So many CBs on the team but no playmakers on offense???? Smh

Dolphins should use that extra 5th round pick to move up and get Aaron Murray...

Umm.. That's not how possession of stolen property works.. You have to prove that it was purchased knowing it was stolen. Man up, admit it, and move on.

If we draft Micheal Sam I will not be a Fins fan anymore!

Why are some of you guys talking about him becoming a safety? He's been a corner and never played safety. He's going to be a corner.

Gr8 pick awesome cover corner whoz a very good tackler in run support had 162 tackles,7 picks,6 forced fumbles in 3 seasons at Liberty!Underrated pick, very athletic, also played basketball, versatile can play outside, inside slot and Safety!

This guy was a special teams pick nothing more.

If we draft Micheal Sam I will not be a Fins fan anymore!

Time to pick a CANE!!

can we wait until they put pads on? jeez...

305, where did you see that? I'm looking in all my magazines and I don't that he played safety anywhere...

He played Safety at Illinois be4 leaving for Liberty!

His dunk highlights are sick...

@AbramsonPBP
Aikens: I play nickel, safety, corner on the island. I can do it all. I'm a versatile player.

I'd like to see Kenny Ladler and Max Bullough for the fifths

We are the least improved team in the division.

Aikens is awesome!

He's going to prove to be a very valuable pick.

The Liberty/stolen property thing just held him back. He'll be a solid prospect in a deep part of our roster.

Excellent Sleeper Pick in my opinion!

beerphin I'm big fan of Max B also Andrew Jackson (WKU) MLB.

This guy was a special teams pick nothing more.

=================================================

I think you're wrong Texas, but we will see.

I believe that had he played in a good program, he'd have been a 1st or 2nd rounder. Aikens is multi-talented. I think he'll fit in perfectly with our large group of Corners and Safties.

Odin, Ron Zook at Illinois (where the offense occurred) has always been known as a great recruiter, lousy tactician. Basically, he handed Urban Meyer the keys to a treasure chest at Florida.
Perhaps Aikins will be worthy.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
Rashaad Reynolds
Kenny Ladler
Wesley Johnson
Matt Patchan

I and other on this blog are really shocked at the way you are acting. Your acting like a spoiled lil girl. You don't get your pick so you berate the pick that was made. Why don't you look at or for the reason we are picking the players we are picking. SAM I AM has given some excellent analysis if you need help. Geez Marco and SAM are making more sense than you the last 3 days??????

Yeah because you idiots scouted 150 players in this draft.......and counting. The arrogance you armchair GMs display is a joke. "well I woldn't have picked that guy"

NOBODY GIVES A FK WHO YOU WOULD HAVE PICKED!!! STICK TO BOOGER EATING YOU BUNCH OF QUEENS!!!!!

I thought Aikens would be long gone by now, despite the stolen property issue.

How ironic, he's accused of stealing, now Hickey stole him!

Steal of the Day!!!!

ETF, explain to this newbie that the name is indeed Flanagan...

Aiken impressed numerous scouts during Senior Bowl week. Was moved up to 2nd & 3rd prospect at that time.

Mark, a bit provincial with Tardif? LOL
They had a convention of Canadian NFL HOF'ers and no one showed. At least I don't believe anyone showed up.
I was thinking one of the Browns HOF Linemen was Canadian, but not sure.

No one gives a shi&. Just shut up already. You know NOTHING. Stop acting as if you somehow know more than professionals who get paid to d this for a living.

Just cause your a Canadian doesn't mean you have to act like it. Get over yourself dork.

Oh no you like him ! Thats the end of his career in Miami then.

Mark been trolling lately for some reason

I love this pick the more I read about him. Sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder and was a standout freshman at Illinois. Could be a huge hidden gem

IN ALL HONESTY, THIS IS THE ONLY PICK IN THE DRAFT I LIKE SO FAR.

THE GUY IS REALLY BIG AND TACKLES WELL. GOD KNOWS WE NEED TOUGHNESS ON OUR TEAM.

WOULD HAVE BEEN SECOND ROUNDER IF BIG NAME SCHOOL.

Ladler in the SEC had 90+ tackles 5 int and 5 forced fumbles this year alone...

Mark has been acting kind of strange.

He reminds me of myself the year we drafted Tannehill.........boy, oh boy.......The Hissy Fit I had over taking Tannehill instead of Luke Kuechley-LOL!!!!

Lookin Good for 7-9
All The Time

BTW Shayne Skov is still available and we are coming up soon. We DO NEED a LB??

Training camp fodder.

Ladler would be my next pick...

MARK FROM TORONTO -

GO LICK A FAT DONG

odin, today I feel exactly like I did during the 2010 draft.

Wsn't feeling any of the picks

My humble opinion (which seems to be very popular around here) only.

Just pick a FB/RB who knows how to sustain his blocks NEXT and Tanehill's protection will be improved in most different aspects, Mr. Dennis.

This alone will be a noticeable improvement from last year but right now we are still lacking a RB who can make a difference when picking the blitz and blocking.

Trey Millard sounds very capable in this sense, he is versatile and well rounded for a FB and different enough from Gillislee and Lamar to be a good fit in the roster.

If you ARE in fact the real MIT, it's Courtland Finnegan, not Flanagan.
I watched him play here in TN for 6-7 years.
Sheesh
