Dolphins pick TE Arthur Lynch in fifth round

He's not exciting. He's not going to remind of Rob Gronkowski. But the Dolphins needed an in-line blocking tight end and that's what they've just gotten in the fifth round.

Miami picked Arthur Lynch from the University of Georgia with the 155th pick.

Some things:

Lynch was All-SEC as a senior.

He improved each season he played.

He was a team captain at Georgia. (Ja'Wuan James, Jarvis Landry and Billy Turner were team captains).

"To be a good football player you have to have leadership qualities," Lynch said. "You need to be a good leader on the field to have success. I have those qualities and will continue to display those qualities for the Miami Dolphins."

Lynch, 6-4 and 258, got drafted before UGA quarterback Aaron Murray.

Lynch said he patterns his game after Heath Miller and Zach Miller. He's basically more Jeron Mastrud.

Lynch said his 40-yard dash time at the Indianapolis was 4.68 hand-timed. He was in the 4.8s electronic timing.

Another team captain selected, a solid football, nothing fancy once again, but will also add some blocking to O line, I see a culture change coming big-time with these picks, the bullying scandal may have been the best thing that could have happened to the Fins.

Really??
After picking blocking tight end Dion Sims last year??

Boy, they are REALY setting things up so a real evaluation of Tanny can commence.
If there jus still the indecisiveness after the 5 seconds he gets, then you know the rest.
No excuses not to hit Wallace deep.

For the TE department I just hope the dolphins recover Dustin Keller ASAP.

Time to go after a new QB to develop.

Mando, Jeron Mastrud was another acorn. Making SEC honor roll is significant.
I'm not so sure this guy won't be one of the big surprises. This pick has Lazor all over it...give my QB a big target, but more importantly, a dedicated, feisty, WILLING, effective blocker.

The Fins have TE's who can catch in Clay and I guess Egnew. A TE who can block in Simms.

Lynch can block and catch. He's a more complete TE although not a new age stretch the field type.

I'll be OK with Murray or a CANE Henderson or Morris).

Making SEC honor roll is significant.

Sorry, referring to Lynch. Just wish his first name were Buck, not Arthur. LOL

Pro Football Draft Guide(on Lynch)"Outstanding blocker Big framed athlete will have no trouble holding up in line-stength at point of attack as run blocker- quick feet and solid hands as pass blocker- underneath pass catcher showing good hands and consistently runs hard after catch."

Or Adrian Hubbard OLB if he is not gone already??

I beleive the Egnew experiment is over. Clay, Sims, Lynch, Kellar(?)...egnew is gone.

Hubbard or Skov ....Hubbard may fit better when we are in the 4-3 and he could move when we are in 3-4?? But I love Skov

A bigger Mark Bavarro? He just scored a LOT on 5 yard throws. Hopefully, Lynch will be another end zone threat with his size. Seam stretchers can get hurt a lot. Ask Gronk.

Dion Simms > Arthur Lynch

I guess we're picking all team captains excpt for Aikens of course lol.

I like it though. These will be no nonsense guys that want to play football.

I have no problem with guys wanting have a little fun but its probably a little hard in the Miami heat to beat the guy in front of you after a 3am bender.

Murray gone, we wasted too much time. I'll bet he becomes the man in KC soon.

I wonder if it was Sherman who kept the young guys off the field. If that's not so, than Sims was another Ireland bust. Otherwise, WHY the duplication of 2013.
I would have loved to see a Wheeler replacement earlier.

Well Murray is gone. dusty bottoms will go troll for sure now.

Tannehill just took a deep breath. Murray has gone to KC.

I like this guy Lynch...I think he is the closest to a prototypical TE that we have....good pick ...

...fills a need....has the size ..and the hands....and can block....and has toughness....

GO PHINS !!!

Well then Skov is our next pick as he is a LB and was a team Captain.

Skov,Bullough or Andrew Jackson(WKU) MLB

Yes...LB next ....

4 LB's picked this round so far....

We'll see Bill 6 picks to go. Mando saying on twitter they are looking QB here. Personally I hope not.

Way too early for Stephen Morris who I don't like at all anyway.

why has Christian Jones fell so far?

If Tanny can hit the long ball 2014, he will always be better than Murray. Tanny is a great athlete that just needs tomb turned loose!
How many times did we groan when he took the sack, when he could have taken off.
It would have made the O-Line more aggressive(at least ON the field) knowing their QB could extricate himself when need be.

It was Sherman again.
Watch this season, and I'll wager there will be designed runs for Tanny, or at least he will be allowed to use his gifts more. Tanny is a tough SOB, no denying that.
Guys like bradford and Stafford would have been broken in 2 by the sacks.

Max Bullough two year captain...

Not QB here.....I hope its a MLB...

...Kenny Ladler FS Vanderbilt.. We need a free safety. Also..Tripp has fallen almost out of the 5th round. I am surprised.. Dashi...I am here to pay the piper. I am going to owe you on our M. Sam bet....

Although I wouldn't be surprised if we took another OT like that guy Antonio Richardson he had a 2nd-3rd round grade and is still available

Thats it for the QB's. We may well take an ILB now, maybe even Bills boyfriend.

DD, I would welcome Ladler here too.

Tripp is worthy

The big OT from Montreal too.

I hope it's Skov. Anybody here pick any of the picks taken so far (except James)?

By that logic, it won't be Skov

I really don't like that Philbin is moving past last years picks without giving them a chance. First, it means last year was a waste and, second, it's stupid to make decisions about a kids future based on your dislike for the guy who picked him.

This draft is okay. No complaints about the players taken, only when you take into account the draft slot where they were taken and who else was available that would have filled a need, and better.

Please, a LB!! Was it character why Bullough fell? he was his team's heart.
I know he was suspended for something.

2014,Morris will go undrafted, and Henderson is a waste. He has all the tools but no brain. Failed a drug test at the combine for pot! Freakin idiot

QB now? Should have thought about that before they were all gone

Shoulda taken Murray. No one else was breaking down Lynch's door.
What happens when T-hill IS protected but still can't run an offense?

Christian Jones is the man. A local run stuffer with a mean streak that actually wants to tackle people not run away from them and hit n hope like Wheeler and Ellerbe.

not sure but Max Bullough or Kenny Ladler would be my next pick

If they take Stephen Morris next I'm going to scream. And not in a good way.

Carlos Fields is the LB we need. He's a mean thumper with 4.5 speed and natural LB instincts.

Hootie Hoo, no one was breaking down the door of probably a third of last seasons Pro Bowlers.

Sure. That is why he is still available.

No offense but we need play makers on offense. We have Simms as our blocking TE. We don't need another in line blocking TE. Hickey is having a rough Draft on his own. Tampa was right to let him go.

Hubbard or Skov ....Hubbard may fit better when we are in the 4-3 and he could move when we are in 3-4?? But I love Skov

Didn't Christian Jones have one of those diluted drug screens at the combine?? Could be hurting his stock.

If Mettenburger is picked will you all scream ? A deep armed pocket passer with slow feet ? Still sounds a better prospect than Thill.

Skov was team Captain?....okay I am guessing its him

A CFL pick would be a WAKE up surprise.

Last 2 picks were LB's

They will regret not taking Murray. He will be a starter next year and be great. Again, we miss out on a QB just like we did with Brees.

Christian Jones does not have fluid hips, and he bends at the waist too quickly!
Don't any of you posuers and faux - draftniks watch tspr! :-|

Kelcy Quarles possibly at DT... kinda reminds me of Starks

Could Mettenberger be a Big Ben clone?

We're on the clock. Hope it's not Morris.

Or tape?

I actually would not mind Mettenberger. I think he has a chance to be a NFL starter...but the nEED is LB

Did they break for a commercial? Not watching the stream.

Strengths Triggers fast downhill vs. the run. Diagnoses quickly and is around the ball a lot. Outstanding motor, intensity and effort. Extremely competitive. Very tough. Outstanding weight-room work ethic. Sculpted with very minimal body fat. Elected team captain. Exceptional character. Emergency long snapper (started all four years). Has a special-teams temperament. Takes the game very seriously. Athleticism was on display at the combine -- paced linebackers with a 3.96-second short shuttle, recorded a 6.89-second 3-cone drill and vertical jumped 37 1/2 inches.
