Dolphins snagged Anthony Johnson? Thats good, I dont know how many DT's they want to pack on the roster but he will have a good chance to make it if he plays hard.

Like the Larsen signing, anybody know the running back?

What about the North Dakota QB?

Wooten showed some flashes at Georgia.
Could be a good snag.

Armando, please tell your peanut gallery what drafting so many small school players got Mr. Gene Smith in Jacksonville? If you can't remember, ask Prisco....

Don't know if you follow NCAA Ball wally but this kid slashed Saban's Alabama D in the Sugar Bowl an looked like a nice combo of speed and stregth in the process. I don't know why he didn't get at least a 7th Rd flyer?? Our gain and competition for D.Thomas for sure!

I think Gillislee will be the odd man out. Thomas will show you something given a half decent line.

“You can say it’s a reach if you want, but I get this pick, said McShay. They needed a right tackle, and the Miami Dolphins go out and get Ja’Wuan James who started 49 games at right tackle. He’s a mobile guy who fits perfectly in that zone blocking system, and he shut down (Chiefs 2014 first round pick) Dee Ford if you want to see good tape on him.”

This time of year, fans across the board are gushing about their teams UDFA steals.

My vote for odd man out is still the same and I think it's Thigpen. Philbin doesn't see him as a RB & they brought in 2-3 guys to compete as a returner.
Also I think Hazel may compete there..

Personally I want Thomas as odd man out..

Miller is the least versatile. He is a tweener. Not really a power back, not really a scat back - he's been caught from behind several times. Can't block to save his life. Gets routinely tackled with one hand.

Yeah, I don't see Brock Jensen there either. Mando, did they let him go?
Hope not, if only so there's some QB chatter with the rookies.

I hope James is everything Dallas Thomas isn't.

To all you fools that say James was a reach. St louis is playing Robinson, first #2 pick in History to play guard. You take the players you need no matter where they are, if you really want them,

Lesson, Robinson will be at LT by game 6, when Jake is injured again. Fisher loves the run game, and Jake was never all that wonderful there. Good, yes, but not in Robinson's league strength or bulk wise.
Fisher would like nothing better than having a 60-40 run to pass, especially with a QB that is constantly injured.

He wants to be Seattle, and he's already competitive in the best division in football.

Brock Jensen is signing next week needs physical first

IMA

Robinson hasn't played a down. You just can't know how any player will pan out, Jake has 4 pro bowls.

Nuff said.

Polian didn't even see Robinson as worth a high pick. Every GM has their own rankings. You are just influenced by the media hype. Polian wasn't.

Will he be great? Only time will tell and nobody else.

I think Devlin is on his way out.

Alittle revisionist History for you!

In 1994 the Dallas Cowboys drafted a behemoth strongman named Larry Allen who was a LT. The issue was that at that time the Cowboys had 2 Pro Bowl Tackles in RT Eric Williams (Meanest SOB ever!) and LT Mark Tuinei. So they played Allen at RG were he earned immediate Pro Bowl appearances at the Pos. He moved over to LT when Tuinei retired in 98 which was the Season they drafted LT Flozell Adams with there #1 pick only to plug him at Allen's old RG Spot were he played till E.Willams retired moving over to RT then later when Allen older flipping them with Allen to RT and Adams to LT.

This way of doing business kept the Cowboys OL at the very top in the NFL from 1991 till 2009 given Parcells came in and Jerry picked up former #1's Leonard Davis (A LT himself in College) and M.Columbo (Another LT) to plug in at LG & RT respectively. I say Jerry did this because it was the JJ way and stayed true after he left. Today probably the reason they picked the versatile Z.Martin in the draft to add to 2013 #1 Fredrickson and LT Smith giving them again very quietly a strong core OL.

All Fisher is doing here is in a way copying the model with Robinson today at LG but injury or not to Long expect Robinson to kick out sooner than later while Jake will be asked to move over to RT with Saffold who they resigned for big money at RT but has played Guard moving inside. Usually the most ahletic guys are your LT's as Jake proved early in Miami doing the running drills with the LB's. The idea being that given there athletic ability you can find them a home across the OL and the reason I didn't buy into the explanation Mando gave about Rookie LT's not being able to play another Pos across the line.

Oscar you spent 3 years telling us how Devlin was heir to the throne and Philbins guy. You let the Sports Science propaganda go to your head.

Brock Jensens twitter said he was officially a Dolphin..

So fin,

Do you see James as a reach or a wise move? I thought it was necessary.

I think the board rankings are for the most part nonsense. Tell me someone is in the top 20 or top 50, but don't tell me a #40 is better than a #19. The rankings are too arbitrary, subjective. History has proven this 100% of the time.

Jensen is a fun qb to watch he is a three time champion at North Dakota he is a throw back type player

E

Was James a reach? Maybe slightly but it depends where YOU have him on your board. If that's your guy and you believe in him, if you trade back and miss him well then you're super pissed that you missed YOUR guy. I read somewhere that it was very plausible that Dolphins were worried about KC coming for their guy given they'd lost 3 starting lineman I think, Schwartz, Asomua? & Albert. So if you trade back you're taking a risk.

Also in most mocks I remember doing Deone Bucannon was available in 3rd rd..well cards took him at 27..so if Arians believes in his guy and that's who he believes in was it a reach? It's all subjective and relative..

Given the fact that the 4 BA were gone I believe they reached but on a definite need! They identified a player that our H.C. (A former OL Coach) and his new OL Coach felt best fit the zone scheme we employ. Given the following best player was the brutish but slow footed M.Moses then tend to agree given he is best fit is more of a POWER Scheme.

After you had Bitonio who they may have graded out at as more of a Guard (Alot of teams apparently did and I'll trust what the Coaches see more than folks on a Blog) with the Wild Card IMO being C.Fleming but after there exp. with PAC-12 LT J.Martin maybe they felt that Weak Conf. in the trenches more a mirage than producer of NFL OT's (I do after seeing Martin and his LG DeCastro translate poorly to NFL)

To be honest the guy that intrigues me is Billy Turner who can Kick out if need be but will get his shot at Guard. I feel he will get the opportunity at LG playing between 2 Vets in Albert and Pouncey before we start 2 Rookies on the Rightside were I see S.Smith getting his shot alongside the Rooie RT. I liked James so I won't knock the pick even if he may have been had in a trade down scenario with the Saints.

F4L where do you get this stuff? Either you have a memory of an Elephant or you have a Football encyclopedia beside your laptop :)

Teka while I wouldn't necessarily disagree with your Miller comments he is one of the fastest RB's in the league and you can't coach that. He's shown some flashes but for that reason alone he'll stay..also his pass blocking was improving. Betcha he's been working on it since the Moreno pickup. Last offseason he worked out with F Gore, not sure what he did on this one.

Very interesting draft class. Hickey seems to be one of a kind. We should wait and see how it pans out before judging him. After 4 years of crappy drafts with Jeff Ireland, hard to imagine Hickey doing worse.

A Fountain of useless data and Football Info. my friend! LOL! I just remember this stuff because going back to my Pee-Wee League days Football has always been my greatst Hobby/Passion. I also retain other things and wasn't a bad student in my day.

Brock Jensen's highlights are fukkkin incredible. Interesting pick. Devlin and even Moore could be in a battle...

If James is our starting RT for the next 5 years, will anyone still say he was a reach? Good God man...

Dolphins are a bunch of scrubs. The owner, GM, HC, and QB are all losers. And the owner is too cheap to pay for good players.

No, I never liked him. Idiot!!!

I don't think him as a player is a reach at all given our need and the fact we took our last good RT Vernon Carey with the very same pick we used on J.James (That's right #19) although Wannstedt drafted the former Canes RG/RT to play LT??(Only in his mind!) while passing on Wilfork while we played a 3/4 (The horror!)

It is interesting to take into account that after James however no Tackle went till the 3rd Rd! I just wonder if we couldn't have traded down to 27 gaining a 3rd Rd'er to add to the 3 Hickey got in Rd-2 in multiple moves down. I wonder given that extra 3 could have landed a talent like T.West who I feel is the breakout RB in this draft along with J.Hill in Cincinati.

E

Jensens highlight are a full game all of them it's not a highlight package

This kid is special down to his blonde curls

These novice fans see a guys HIGHLIGHTS and think they're a great player. LOL. Look at his LOWLIGHTS and NOW HES NOT SO GREAT!! GEEZ!!

fin4, maybe, maybe not. It was a hell of a risk to take for Hickey...Our o-line sucked so bad last year, especially the RT position...I can understand why Hickey would prefer getting his guy right away...

I really like this draft and crop of free agents I think we found our gm

Hey smarty they found him while scouting billy turner they were team mates

Marc, so do I...Not what I expected at all though but still...Hickey's got some guts...

always been the case…..1st rd pick must be an immediate starter (check)…..find 2-3 starters in the draft (probably check…..James, Landry in a rotation and starting if Hartline or Gibson cant, and likely Taylor)--Tripp has potential, as does Aiken--the GA TE likely makes the team instead of Egnew--and Jarvis Landry will be a beast slot receiver and red zone target in short time.

Love the signing of LSU's Johnson, who was expected to be a 3rd-4th rd pick--would be surprised if he doesnt make the team…..dude is good

diarrhea is something you get when you ingest something bad, I'm done ingesting anything Dolphins, they give me diarrhea

yes, James was a reach by most measures but Miami was backed into a corner and simply could not take the risk he'd be taken soon after, and before their next pick in Rd 2--could they have traded back?….who knows but I'm sure they tried, but thats also a risk…..its so easy on these boards to second guess and "I wouldve", or "why didnt they?"…..AFTER THE FACT…..aint so easy when you're on the clock and need the player…..yeah, we know now how it played out, but no one knew at the time…..including Hickey.

We are the least improved team in the division.

disagree Bud

I like the tail back from Oklahoma damien Williams 5-11 225 4.4 forty great hands got suspended after 7 games team rules

I won't dispute that!

In any case whether you feel Juwuan was reach he is now a Dolphin and must show us on the field he was worth a first round pick. There's a lot to like about the guy. It's my guess he'll be the least of our problems. Biggest problem in MHO is our underachieving defense(Coyle). No if's about it this defense should dominate without excuses.

Jensen has only won 3 championships with Billy Turner. That guy is a player and has a lot of tools. I don't mind seeing him get a chance at all.

So if we passed on James and missed him in a trade down, then assuming he went on to be a great RT, all of you woud be scowling that Hickey had the guy in his hands and let him go!

He was the one under the gun, he did the responsible thing.

I'm ok with it. I just think we are the least improved team in the division.

Pouncey ain't going to bully Turner. That kid is mean. Turner would kick Pouncey's a**...

i think the biggest problem on this team is the coaching. I think we have 4 great position coaches now and only on 2 of them were on the team last year (dl and st). I expect major improvement on the ol and lb play with the new position coaches, coaching them up and getting the most out of them. I hope the new OC gets to do what he wants and call his own plays, because if we get stuck with Philbin's mind set this team will be picking in the top 5 next year.

Pulling guys out of the FCS was something Ireland did alot of especially with Montana players. I always felt while a lousy franchise builder at G.M. he was a good scout who found good players in those Schools. He did after all find Romo at East Illi. where Gorapolo probably owes him for the draft exposure this yr. out of that program along with Austin Miles. I got a feeling the team kept the Scout Dept. intact which had Scouted these players for Ireland as far back as 2013.

Deion Belue, the corner from Alabama, was a projected 4th to 5th rounder by most scouts...Good value getting him as an undrafted free agent.
