The Marlins are being extra careful with Chris Volstad, one of their top minor-league pitching prospects, and plan to ease him back into the rotation in about another week. Volstad is on the disabled list with a strained right triceps muscle and has not pitched for the Double A Carolina Mudcats since May 27. He is 3-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 11 starts this season
Volstad, out of Palm Beach Gardens, was the Marlins' top draft pick in 2005 (16th overall). He has been throwing the past few days, but the Marlins want him to build up arm strength before returning him to the mound. He is not expected to miss more than two turns in the rotation when all is said and done.
