The Marlins have obtained left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners for minor-league pitcher Gaby Hernandez, according to an American League source.
Rhodes, a 38-year-old situational lefty with postseason experience, has made 36 relief appearances for the Mariners this season, going 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA.
The Marlins give up Hernandez, a Miami native and Belen Jesuit High School product who was acquired from the Mets three years ago for catcher Paul Lo Duca. Hernandez, a 22-year-old right-hander, struggled this season at Triple A Albuquerque, going 2-8 with a 7.24 ERA. But he had steadied since being demoted to Double A Carolina, where he was 3-0 with a 4.30 ERA.

I like the Rhodes pickup, especially since the Marlins only gave up a mid-level pitcher in Hernandez, who hasn't shown anything since the Fish picked him up 3 years ago... I also like the Ramirez trade, if and only if the Marlins don't have to give up Stanton and Tucker, along with Hermida... The Angels only gave up Kotchman and a mid-level prospect for a guy in Teixera who was going to be arguably the most sought after free agent on the market next year... I'd like to see the marlins trade Hermida and a mid-level guy for Ramirez and if not, then oh well, because this team will at least be competitive with out him until the end of the year and who knows, they may still be able to sneak into the playoffs without him anyways...
plus, if they trade Hermida, who would bat second? The fish would have no true 2nd hole hitter... Do it without giving up the farm... Tucker maybe, but Stanton is a potential RF replacement for Hermida in a year or two... No to Stanton!!!
Lastly, I hope that the Fish aren't dumb enough to trade one of our starting pitchers for Laird the catcher from Texas! Maybe I would consider a Minor League pitcher for Saltamacchia, who is much younger and has a lot of potential... No to Laird, especially if they are asking for a starting pitcher!! Is Texas out of their mind!!!
