LAKELAND -- Sure, the Detroit Tigers are anxiously awaiting the return of Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen and Curtis Granderson from the World Baseball Classic.
But, my goodness.
Ricky Nolasco was simply brilliant on Sunday. Not only didn't Nolasco give up a base hit during his 7-inning outing at Joker Marchant Stadium, but the only two baserunners he allowed -- one on a walk and the other on a hit batter -- were erased on double plays. He faced the minimum 21 batters and whiffed seven.
It's all but official that Nolasco will be the Marlins' Opening Day starter on April 6, and he already looks to be in mid-season form.
