Closer Matt Lindstrom was scheduled for a MRI this morning on his ailing right shoulder while shortstop Hanley Ramirez is out of this afternoon's lineup with a sore throwing shoulder.
Even if Lindstrom's tests come back clean, it's doubtful he'll rejoin Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said that, even under a best-case scenario, doctors and staff trainers would likely order rest for the next few days at least.
If Lindstrom is sidelined for any length of time, Gonzalez said he would likely turn to right-hander Leo Nunez to handle save situations. Nunez has never closed in his professional career but said he's "ready."
"I'll do anything," he said.
As for Ramirez, Gonzalez said he is "not worried." Routine shoulder soreness that Ramirez has experienced in the past.
